Good evening.
juslin @ 2
no, sorry. meeee.
freedom yessss – tori amos not so much….
Now run tell the others, kids. You know the rules.
Good evening all.
Alfred asked me to share this with you. The patient he mentions is, of course, his dad.
you got it green warrior – not quite fast enough…..
I let downstairs know, TRex.
I let downstairs know, TRex.
Tori’s getting me all choked up. Sometimes she’s even better singing other people’s songs.
Suzanne @ 10
Uhoh, double comment m’dear!!!
I am going to insist that you all listen to this song with me. Turn out the lights. Put on your headphones.
Sigh.
Thank God, Coulter is done.
Slainte!
Thanks, TexB, for the update on Alfred and his dad. Bummer.
evening pups – real bummer texasbetsy – please tell alfred i will be adding his dad to my prayer list and that i hope he{alfred) is doing ok himself….
Loo Hoo. @ 15
Ditto.
City of brotherly love,
place I call home,
don’t turn your back on me.
I don’t want to be alone.
Someone is talking to me,
calling my name.
Tell me I’m not to blame.
I won’t be ashamed of love,
Philadelphia…
Suzanne @ 9
me too.
Doh! Lisa Simpson is entering the race for President. C&L has it.
kinda cute to announce it on the Fourth.
Still feeling patriotic? I am. :) Several snacks for you this evening.
cupcakes
chips & salsa
cake & other assorted goodies
Make sure y’all brush your teeth after such a party!
Who is Lisa Simpson? Guess I’ll check.
juslin @ 16
send love and hugs from me too!
You’re right, GSD, about 60 grit’s pickled brain.
So help me, god, I don’t know how they say some of the things they say with a straight face. John Dean’s book about conservatives without conscience finally shed some light on it.
Tell us more about meeting Bill Richardson. Wasn’t that you who met him?
TexB @ 7
Please extend my best wishes to AK and family, Betsy.
Lisa Simpson is the only person in Hollywood Fred Thompson hasn’t slept with.
-GSD
GSD @ 26
i googled lisa simpson and came up with homer simpson’s wife/daughter?
Petrocelli @ 25
sorry best wishes
GSD @ 26
Hmm, jail bait, eh?
i need to read the previous post – i feel i’m missing lots tonight ;-)
GSD @ 26
OMFG! You mean that he has slept with people like Mary Tyler Moore and Rosanna Arquette?
Oh, THAT Lisa Simpson.
Maggie,
It is an odd NH event called the Pots and Pans Parade. In Greenville NH at 11:30 at night.
Fireworks at 11:30 and then a parade after.
Richardson is a very warm and likeable and smart man.
I told him to take down Pete Domenici if he doesn’t make the cut for the big two. Told him the country was in rough shape and he nodded because he knows.
-GSD
TRex @ 13
TRex, I am not familiar with Tori Amos’ body of work, but I really like what I hear here. Which one of her CDs would you most recommend to a first time buyer?
do-si-do @ 29
hmm
greenwarrior @ 27
Daughter. 8 yrs old. From a TV show.
TexB @ 7
Thanks Betsy…
We’re all thinking of you and Dad. Our best Alfred.
Petrocelli @ 25
My sentiments, as well!!!
I should have used a better joke name than Lisa Simpson. Freddy Thompson is reported Cassanova but nothing Mark Foleyesque about him.
Needless to say, the savior of the Bush/Coulter Republican Party is a Hollywood bigshot, lawyer and lobbyist.
-GSD
Lisa Simpson’s a clever reminder that our kids are watching. My kids CANNOT understand why Bush is still holding the job of president. They want to fire him. Don’t we all (the sane ones)?
Lisa for Prez
Fred Thompson-Bow Wow
(fingers and toes crossed the reboot resolved the double commenting from earlier)
woohoo – appears to be fixed (whew)
Tex, please let AK know that I have his dad on my prayer list.
argosfalcon @ 28
Hey TexB, AK is in good hands with friends like you. I will be here rooting for his dad’s recovery.
GSD @ 39
You all saw that Thompson was a mole for Nixon’s White House, no?
http://www.boston.com/news/nat…..gate_role/
Just emailed Alfred. Said this:
Freddy’s friends.
-GSD
Mary McCurnin @ 41
Yeah, I mean, he’s lookin’ a little worse for wear. I like his movies, but jeez, i don’t want him for president. thank you.
I want Tom Hanks. For president.
egad.. the Boulder Creek rednecks are firing off guns, both handguns and shotguns, into the air along with bottle rockets. Fools need an attitude adjustment and fast.
GSD @ 47
What a bunch of Boobs !!!
Hanks/Gore
GSD,
That’s exactly my thought — run for Senate if the Big Gig doesn’t work out, because Pete is out of there!
Wonder how that ethics investigation is going?
I think it is cool that you got to meet Bill, altho’ in NH it is pretty common to meet presidential candidates, right?
Suzanne @ 49
How many redneck lives have ended just after the phrase ‘Watch this!” was yelled?
-GSD
GSD @ 47
Can hardly wait to see the DC Madame’s phone list!
Suzanne @ 49
This is the quietest we’ve ever had it here on the 4th. Rain. More rain. More rain.
Oh, wow. You may be asking the wrong guy. This song that she’s singing is a Neil Young song, but it sounds most like her second album, “Under the Pink” from 1994. She does a bit of howling and piano-humping on that record, though, so I’m not sure how fun it would be for a novice.
The new one is awfully good, but my all-time favorite is “Scarlet’s Walk” from 2002. That one is wall-to-wall with gorgeous songs, and the last one on that album, “Gold Dust”, is my favorite song of hers. It’s so beautiful that it has literally, brought me to my knees before.
Loo Hoo. @ 54
When are they releasing it?
Mary McCurnin @ 51
Hey gang, sorry if this was addressed already…can you really go 100mph in a prius?
Maggie,
Yep. I’ve met Gore, Buchanan, Clinton, Fritz Hollings, McCain to name a few, and even spent time in a hotel room with B-1 Bob Dornan.
-GSD
Isn’t the Shooter on the list?
Loo Hoo. @ 54
Check out all the bleach blondes!
Wish we had some rain. Only got 1/3 the average this year. Whole place is a tinderbox.
How can anyone be moonie eyed over Fred?
Dude! No way, he’s a creepy Scientologist like John Travolta!
do-si-do @ 58
That was the first thing I asked!!!
TexB @ 61
Yeah, out here in California, esp Hollyweird, it’s easy to fall in with the wrong crowd. ;)
Suzanne @ 62
Not such a good combo with rednecks and fireworks.
Mary McCurnin @ 63
Honey, that isn’t moonie eyed. It is money-eyed.
TexB @ 61
IIRC, Freddie’s ex- wives were paid to endorse him …
Jesus would want Hollywood stars to get some action.
So says Fred.
-GSD
Scientologists are the Mormons of Hollywood.
thnx tb for sending our love to AK – we had a quiet 4th here in nj – rained hard on our festivities :( but family still gathered here at my home nonetheless
Suzanne @ 68
Cha-ching!
I mean, DING!
TRex @ 64
Gasp! He is? Wow, I wonder how I missed that. I thought I was on to all the S people…my bad! Guess I’ll have to stick with Lisa Simpson!
Maybe Al Gore had a special souped up hybrid made by illegal immigrant workers in John Edward’s 500 thousand square foot house?
-GSD
Suzanne @ 62
I live on the American River in Rancho Cordova. Freakin’ hot today 106 and the fools are shooting off fire works right now. A normal night would be hazardous in terms of fire. And we have an arsonist in the neighborhood. I don’t know what is worse – too much rain or too little. I have seen some burly fires in CAL.
CTuttle @ 65
did gore say they went 100?
I don’t think there’s a date to release the phone list yet. Googled, but can’t find, where I saw this last week. FBI missed the 46 pounds of labeled boxes in her basement. Now they are hidden. She’s getting some trouble from ABC, who had the exclusive and then never produced anything. She’s basically offering them up for free, but needs the recipient to work it out with her lawyer that the names will be published. She’s pissed at ABC for what they did.
Alright, gang. Even though I did virtually nothing all day, I’m beat.
Good night, everyone!
ABC. Advancing Bush’s Clownishness.
-GSD
Mary McCurnin @ 63
Must be a disease. Gang Green.
greenwarrior @ 76
Well, however fast he was going, you know the commuting is going to be a bitch!

The record for a Prius is 130 mph: http://hybridcars.about.com/od…..dspeed.htm
sleep well, trex and see ya here tomorrow night, same bat time, same bat channel
Mary McCurnin @ 75
i’m going to be there next week for 10 days. where’s a good place to go hike/swim by the river? i’ll be at the sacramento marriott rancho cordova. something that’s a relatively short drive. unless, it’s really beautiful for a special outing.
if those names surface it’ll be a shock as i dont think it’ll be allowed to be made public….
Mary McCurnin @ 75
Mary, I used to live in Davis, in the 80’s before it became condo-city – all tomato fields. Talk about some shooting?
Now, y’all, I am sure those nice L.A. policemen would not lie about Mr. Gore’s speeding and breakin the law. You know how nice and honest Cal cops are.
g’night trex.
I’m audi, too.
Happy Fourth again, and 5th to those on EST……
greenwarrior @ 76
The cops said they clocked Al Gore III, doing a 100 in his Prius!!!
Suzanne @ 49
I lived in San Jose Cali for a while, they actually fired automatic weapons in the air, along with the usual handguns etc.
I had to drag my neighbor lady into the house.
What goes up, comes down. It was raining bullets, literally.
TRex @ 78
G’nite, Big Boy!!!
Tom Hanks is a scientologist? Got a link, T?
Mary McCurnin @ 87
now now, don’t be comparing all CA cops to those on the LAPD (wink)
TexB @ 46
I may lurk a lot more than I post but i love the lake because it attracts people like you Betsy, kind, caring, loving, except with George Bush and his friends.
GSD @ 74
Or he was going down into Topanga Canyon.
juslin @ 85
Not allowed? As in, illegal? That is such a quaint old concept, “illegal.”
juslin @ 85
I heard that ABC was contacted by a number of attorneys for people on that list, who claimed their clients were contemplating suicide if their names were disclosed.
CTuttle @ 89
well, i’ve had mine up around 85 a couple times without it straining at all, so i could believe it’d easily go 100.
greenwarrior @ 84
The Marriot is fairly close to the river. Not walking distance though. email me at marymccurnin at mac dot com and I can give you directions. I hope it has cooled off some for you.

Bustednuckles @ 90
Is why I’m inside tonight. I was agast at how routine it is considered up here my first fourth.
Margot @ 96
Sick bird.
Petrocelli @ 97
More Republican Boo-Hooers. The list probably looks like the donor list for The American Enterprise Institute.
-GSD
CTuttle @ 102
I used to loveseeing Erik in that uniform. ohhhhh.
Petrocelli @ 97
No response.
greenwarrior @ 98
Cool! Any funny sensations when accelerating?
Just as certain laws do not apply if one is a rich enough Republicrook, they are the only ones entitled to privacy, donchaknow.
Petrocelli @ 97
And might I guess how those clients felt when it was Bill Clinton whose sex life was being paraded around Capitol Hill?
Loo Hoo. @ 107
They can fuck but they can’t get fucked.
Suzanne @ 109
Republicrooks don’t believe in a right to privacy. After all, that’s what Roe v. Wade was partly based on.
Mary McCurnin @ 99
you’ve got mail.
neurophius @ 112
The only privacy right a Republicrook believes in is the right they have – not other peoples.
Oh they can laugh and ridicule Bill and Hillary because it’s ‘fair game’.
Everyone is ‘fair game’ when it comes to meting out Republican Justice.
-GSD
I’m sorry, but they should have thought of that before they paid for sex.
Duh.
Stupid bitchez.
Okay, now, really. Orff to bed!
TexB,
Thank you.
Haven’t heard me talk about my kid’s dad though, eh?
———————————————–
No I haven’t. I always see you taking care of people, cyber-feeding them, showing concern. Ex-partners aren’t ‘people’.
Suzanne @ 114
Oh very very rich dems might have a small right.
GSD @ 115
Except for other rich Republicans, of course.
CTuttle @ 108

Mary McCurnin @ 111

That goes without saying. None of the rules apply to them. They are benevolent leaders and the laws are carved right around them in a Godly cutout to allow them to be unteathered by the bonds of law.
It is working out quite well for them.

CTuttle @ 108
Last year I had a test drive in a Prius.
It got off the line very fast, probably because of the electric motor. In general it’s sluggish in its acceleration. But it’s very quiet and smooth, and somehow that seemed to make it okay. (I can’t explain why.)
Night BK.

Exactly my point, GSD. We have become that which our country was trying to escape from when founded. Instead of a classless society of all men being created equal we have the haves and he have-nots. Rights are for the haves and the have nots have none.
Bustednuckles @ 134
Bye! Come back soon, BK.
Darkblack, you’ve done it AGAIN!
If having problems with comments not posting on the page, perhaps it is time to do a hard refresh of the page and then try posting a test message. I’ll be looking for it as will the Mod Squad backstage.

Interesting Michael Kinsley piece about Scooter & perjury.
Suzanne @ 142
There’s no such thing as a classless society, every society has a caste system, even the so called soc*alist and communist ones.
America has been the most successful at transcending the boundaries of class and it will be again, if enough people stand together and restore the rule of law.
Oh yeah. Wait for the howls from the right. They’ll want Al Gores’ son sent to Guantanimo after a summary trial for his alleged conduct.
This nation is becoming unbearable.

good night all, bad and unwise as I have been I will endeavor to be wiser.
Ah, there you are CTuttle! You asked me a question about David Hicks yesterday but I didn’t get a chance to answer before we all changed threads. The answer to your question is, no Hicks hasn’t said anything. He’s still in jail and will get out Dec 30. Our Attorney General said that he was free to speak and that we wouldn’t enforce the no-talking-to-media part of his sentence. Still, I think he’s so shit-scared to going back to Gitmo that he’s going to keep to the terms of the agreement.
thanks suzanne – that’s what i finally did – it brought me back ;o)

The greatest damage done by prolonging the Iraq war is that doing so prolongs the hope for cheap fossil fuel. That hope, in turn, precludes any meaningful attempt to find clean, safe, rapidly deployable alternatives.
GSD @ 157
How Gore responds to these criticisms will determine his ability to win the Presidency !
CTuttle @ 165
Sleep well.
I am afraid that this matter with Gore’s son is the exact reason why he won’t run.

persiflage @ 159
Mahalo! Would Howard dare send him back to Gitmo if he violated the terms? Wouldn’t Aussie public outrage preclude that? 8-)
juslin @ 171
I believe the libby commutation created such a disturbance in the force. Every Joe and Jane 6Pack and their Nascar cousins understand that ya just don’t mess with the law. They understand the big FU given to the jury and the judge by this preznit.
wigwam @ 166
Cheap fossil fuel? Oil was $17 dollars a barrel before Bush invaded Iraq and the U.S. dollar has lost about 30 % value to the Euro since then.
juslin @ 171
You are correct. I’m currently reading Al Gore’s The Assault on Reason. It gives a detailed, blow-by-blow description of six years of Bushco slapping Americans in the face.
GSD @ 169
I don’t understand these references to Gore’s Prius and/or his son. Also, I found nothing about Gore on Google news. What am I missing? ;-)
Someone mentioned that Bush was at his ‘Saddam setting fire to the Kuwaiti oil wells” part of his presidency.
Bush is literally shoving our faces in collective shit and his 26% amen chorus keeps yelling “harder, harder”.
-GSD
CTuttle @ 172
No,we wouldn’t send him back but the US could try to extradite him. I’m getting the sense that, even when the 12 months is up, he’s not going to want to talk to the media. It’s all been a long, ugly nightmare for him. He just wants to put it all behind him and make a new life when he’s released. He’s already been barred from making money from his story so he doesn’t have much to gain.
GSD @ 169
Gore is smart enough to turn any slights about his son into his favor … the question is whether he will or not.
Petrocelli @ 174
Screw the Euro, look how much the Loonie has gained on the buck!!! Virtually one for one!!!
Petrocelli @ 174
It’s amazing how Republicans will calmly swallow a loss of 30% is in the value of their assets so long as their money doesn’t go to taxes (which go to welfare queens, etc.)

CTuttle @ 202
I blame Harvard Business School. They’ve been preaching for about three decades that we can get by as a “service economy.” Leave the manufacturing to the peasants overseas. We’re cool knowledge workers.
CTuttle @ 195
The only thing we agreed to was that he serve any sentence in an Aussie jail. He certainly not barred from speaking out here. I get the feeling that he wants to forget it, maybe we’ll find out different.
I felt incredibly sad when his laywer, having visited David for the first time after he returned to Australia, said that David was having a bit of trouble adjusting to the amount of freedom he had. He in the protected wing of a high security prison and it’s more freedom that he had for 5 years in Gitmo. Now he can listen to the radio, read the newspapers, see his family regularly and the lights get turned off at night. I can see why he might think it was paradise.

Thanks, TexB, for the yummies.
wigwam, when I asked Issa’s guy about our losing the manufacturing base to China, he responded that America is going to be a nation of lawyers. Seriously, this guy saw it as no problemo.
wigwam @ 139
ok. i’ll try to explain this. yes, it does “get off the line fast” and then when i go to accelerate, especially when i want it to accelerate very quickly, then it’s almost like it takes a moment to kick in, but then it’s very responsive. waaay more than the toyota trucks i drove for many years before i got the prius in october. so i’m really happy with the acceleration and how it drives.
i adore the smart key that i never need to take out of my purse to open the car or turn it on or lock it. it knows it’s me.
i hate the beeping it makes in reverse. and the low clearance compared to the truck. and the much lower visibility out the windows, for passing and back up. physically, it’s not as comfortable as the truck: distance from me to steering wheel, where to rest my arms when they’re not on the wheel, how the seat belt sits.
i miss the truck. i sold it to a friend who moved to upstate new york and saw him in january in california. he showed me a picture he had of it all covered with snow that he had on his cellphone. it was a poignant moment for me. he loves the truck.
Suzanne @ 222
That is a study in contrast … how well Leahy runs the SJC and how lame Reid’s leadership has been in the Senate.
Petrocelli @ 218
The scariest thing I’ve seen for a long while is when Pelosi said we don’t know the half of what’s gone on…
I know, LooHoo, when Nancy speaks, I listen.

i used to think that til i read howard zinn’s the people’s history of america. a lot of people have deliberately and literally been disenfranchised right from the beginning. if not, outright dead. like indians, blacks, women, hispanics. all those people who lost their lives fighting for fair labor laws.

I may well need to replace my car this summer. Hoping not to, but having car computer probs and the new computer costs more than the car is worth.
Anyway, I’d love to go with something that gets great mileage, but my current wheelchair requires a station wagon, unless I am willing to take the entire thing apart each time. So …. it may be time for a new, lightweight & foldable wheelchair as well.
Then there’s the financial question ….

Mahalo, to both! It confirms other’s reactions to the Prius! I’m considering getting one, used though!

It was conscious decision to even put election day on a weekday during a typically cold/rainy month. Who can afford to take off from work to vote? Who can’t?
why hasn’t it dawned on “we the people” if all manufacturing goods jobs have been shipped out of country – who pray tell is going to purchase said goods if we’re unemployed? we all cant have “service jobs”…we must eat and pay rent … wake up people – somethings gotta give.and my pockets aint deep enough

Sleep well my friend.
It was conscious decision to even put election day on a weekday during a typically cold/rainy month. Who can afford to take off from work to vote? Who can’t?
IIRC, it was based on the harvest being over and everyone settled in at home for a long winter – more folks on farms than in cities at the time – again, memory based.
wigwam @ 231
Hmmm… Hadn’t heard of that one! Doesn’t surprise me one Iota tho!!! LOL! 8-)

I’ve often wondered about that, thanks for raising it. Our elections are always on a Saturday.
CTuttle @ 236
There was an article in a local paper a couple days ago that claimed that the Prius is the only hybrid that is selling well. The claim is that that’s because the other hybrids are optional variations of a normal car. Most people who drive buy hybrids want to make a statement and the distinctive styling of the Prius accomplishes that for them. (I don’t necessarily believe all that. But it’s an interesting theory.)
Petrocelli @ 239

I think it needs to come out in hearings. Every day should be hearing day till the impeachments start flying. Gonzoles’ was postponed till the 24th, but he’s getting the questions in advance so he can’t behave like the class dunce this time.
GSD @ 247
Need to plant some hedge funds out by the front walkway. I’ll make soup from the stocks and bonds.

Suzanne, do the backstage mods know that we still have a gray box on the mac, after box 247 today. After an earlier box yesterday.
Hearings every day. Televised all day every day. On the networks, not juts CSPAN. Just like Watergate summer.

I read somewhere today, probably here, Obama (not Hillary) is getting the financial support from hedge funders. I wonder what deal was made..

You want to see the Bushies up close? Up THAT close? Not I!
On a G4 laptop, don’t know the size but its wide screen.
Am I correct:
If Bush does pardon Libby, then Libby can’t take the fifth in Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation into a Cheney’s leak.
If Bush does not pardon Libby, then the next Democratic President can pardon Libby, then Libby can’t take the fifth in Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation into a Cheney’s leak.
Can’t we still punish these f–ks?
TexB @ 237
Yes, and here in Texas, we have a special additional election insanity for keeping turnout low. In Oregon, where I lived for many years, there was one election a year – you voted for issues, school board, city, county, state and national all at the same time. In Texas, we have ALL these elections at different times. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? As an tool for democracy, not so much.

Toby @ 271
Toby, I don’t think we have lawyers on late night.
Toby @ 271
The logic is quite interesting:
1) Libby’s sentence was commuted so that he’ll have nothing to gain
(e.g., his freedom) by testifying in future proceedings.
2) A full pardon has been withheld so that he can “take the fifth” and
thus will have nothing to lose by not testifying in future
proceedings.
3 Also, a full pardon has been withheld so far so that he’ll have
something to gain by continuing not to testify.
4) It may be possible to overcome #2 by giving him selective immunity,
but that gets trickey (and backfired in Ollie North’s case).
greenwarrior @ 272
Fellow Texan. I am active in politics (Duh!), work in the public schools, and never have a clue when the school board or school bond elections are. Missed two in the past few years.

I saw that and I bought mine for three reasons – in order of importance:
1. I wanted to do what I could to use less oil so we could potentially be interfering in the middle east and other places less. There’s very little as important to me as my desire for peace in the middle east.
2. I wanted a car that polluted our environment less.
3. I figured that insane as Bush is and as devoted as he is to earning money for the oil majors, the price of gas was going to go up considerably. To say nothing of what other leaders of our country and other countries might do that would continue/escalate the insanity.
short reasons:
1. political
2. environmental
3. financial

I don’t usually stay up late enough for it to be an issue.
Toby @ 271
You’re right about Bush’s commutation enabling Libby to take the fifth, but, they flubbed it up so much, I think Judge Walton is thoroughly pissed and will force Shrub to pardon Libby to avoid his seeing a cell block! Either way, if Scooter sees bars, I think he will sing like a canary, and, when Shrub pardons him, he’ll be in front of congress!!!

CTuttle, good take.
I think we can nail these f–ks. It may take a while, but we can nail them. I hope our next Democratic President will do the right thing and investigate and prosecute. Al Gore would go after them. HC wouldn’t, Obama wouldn’t. Edwards wouldn’t. Even Bloomberg wouldn’t.
Al Gore.
And now, after 291, I too have the Gray Box of Death.
Suzanne @ 286
Yes, and Yes!!! :P
FYI, it’s parked at left margin, over 291, 292, 293.
TexB @ 279
Maybe you gotta do something controversial. Like here in Hawaii we had a progressive cross-dresser [are there conservative cross-dressers?] who ran for school board and won! S/he actually had a good platform, and well-articulated positions. So the school board elections got in the news a bit more that time around. . .
Bob in HI
greenwarrior @ 284
IMHO, we need a carbon tax, to get our fuel prices up to where the rest of the developed world is (i.e., about $7 per gallon). At that level, everyone would pay attention to their choice of vehicle and driving patterns.
Toby @ 293
Semi agree… I think Edwards would, Gore absolutely would….and Kucinich would skin them alive very slowly.
Someone up above was right aqbout the november polling being a holdover from the harvest season.
The thing is, i work retail and i’ve not missed voting BEFORE i go in to work. They open the polling places incredibly early in michigan most of the time. There’s no reason to miss them, and i try not to. Those same polls are open much later during presidential and mid terms too. Usually up until 9pm or so. That way anyone who works 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift can find time to go in.
That’s what irks me about those who say ‘there’s no time!’. Being irritated with the apathy goes without saying. There’s seldom lines except during presidential elections. Even then, they’ve moved pretty steadily so you’re out of the cold in a short time.
Ah well. Time for me to head to bed. ‘night all.
TexB @ 279
They’re easy to miss. IIRC, the Austin Chronicle does endorsements for all of them. Used to be that you could just trust what they were endorsing, but not necessarily anymore. I pick up that paper weekly, so that’s probably the main place that I learn about the school related elections.

There’s no alternative. We have to impeach both Bush and Cheney. And, we must do so on charges that include capital crimes, e.g., violations of the 1996 War Crimes Act. It’ll get people’s attention, even if it doesn’t get passed.

Hi, Betsy. I’m a bit tired tonight. I spent the morning down at Ala Moana Beach Park helping with an impeachment rally, and got discouraged at the general apathy. Hundreds of people there, later thousands, camping out to see the fireworks tonight. I posted some photos on Facebook.
Then this afternoon to a musical jam that was fun but tiring.

Earlier sounds of
Gelded Fireworks

Children laughing

Safer sparklers
Sounds of the
Present
Past
Giant blasts
Of patriotism
Echo
I can’t be
The only one who feels
The reverberation
When again will
Eyes turned high
And ears cupped
Find unquestioned joy
In the tintinnabulation of
A multitude tiny sparks
In the sky?

WOW!!! It has long looked to me as though Fitz has what he needs for an Espionage Act conviction. And he even hinted at it when announcing Libby’s indictment. But this is the first time that I’ve heard of a bona fide expert (emptywheel) say so. That changes everything.
So, what the hell is Fitz waiting for? And, if he has the goods on Libby, then almost surely he has the goods on Cheney. What’s up?
And now, I’m wondering about “sealed vs sealed”.
But sleep is a necessity. G’night all.
Hi all, anybody still up?

Thanks for checking in on Alfred and his dad. My right hip gets so painful sometimes at night that I can’t nod off. Right now, I’m waiting for a load of wood to finish in the smokehouse so I can put a last load on before I hit the hay.
We had a former student of mine and her boyfriend over for dinner. They’re visiting friends and relatives in Alaska for a week, then back to Charlotte, NC, where she’s getting some money saved by working hard before she goes into a MusD program. He’s her first boyfriend I’ve ever approved of.
Hi TexB. Welcome opportunity to tell you how much I admire Cassie. Her site looks tres professional and she did an article last week on the food chain (I think), that knocked me out.
What’s up ya’ll?
raven @ 363
My dog Strider attacks fireworks. We don’t know why. He’s the sweetest, friendliest 97-pound lab-husky you’ll ever know, but fireworks drive him nutzola. He came back a little while ago with a singed nose. We figure some kids shot at him with a bottle rocket. We’re keeping him inside now, until it is over.
Let’s look at the logic of the commutation of Libby’s sentence:
Libby’s sentence was commuted so that he’ll have nothing to gain (e.g., his freedom) by testifying in future proceedings.
A full pardon has been withheld so that he can “take the fifth” and thus will have nothing to lose by not testifying.
Also, a full pardon has been withheld so far so that he’ll have something to gain by not testifying.
It may be possible to overcome #2 by giving him selective immunity, but that gets trickey (and backfired in Ollie North’s case).
But a couple of matters have been disturbing me for several weeks:
It looks to me like Fitz has everything he needs for a case against Libby, and possibly Cheney, under the Espionage Act.
It also looks good for an IIPA case as well:
The only piece missing seems to be evidence that Libby knew that “the United States [was] taking affirmative measures to conceal such covert agent’s intelligence relationship to the United States.”
So, it bothered me that Fitz hadn’t gone forward, and I thought I was
missing something.
Tonight (6/4/07), it appears that emptywheel has found the missing pieces: http://thenexthurrah.typepad.c…..t-74887150
From a comment: “I have not recommended giving Libby immunity. Why do that, when Fitz has the evidence to charge him with Espionage in his back pocket?”
From the main article:
Two underlying crimes by Libby and possibly by Cheney as well. Now I can get some sleep.
Hmmmmm. All my formatting disappeared after the preview.
In any case, I’ve go to get sme sleep.
Ed*ard Teller @ 364
Dang. Our little cocker, the real Raven who we lost a couple of months back, didn’t like ordinance very much so we just got used to staying away. Our new pupster, Bodhi, doesn’t seem to care at all but having gotten in the habit we just hung out at home. Are ya’ll 6 hours ahead of est? You inspired me to smoke some salmon on my water smoker yesterday!
Strider is one fine looking critter!
Wigwam,
I’m wondering if the state actually gets a second bite of the apple with scooter – i.e. indicting him for a related crime after having tried and convicted him once.
raven @ 368
Yeah. Raven looks old and satisfied in the picture. And Bodi – I like the nickname “knucklehead.” My aunt Hazel was born with a cleft palette in 1912. They couldn’t do surgery then, so she lived with it her entire life. She couldn’t do “N’s” at all, but she loved the term “Knucklehead.” So my brothers and I were all “Muckleheads” when we screwed up or she wanted to hassle us. It is still a family term of endearment, years after she passed.
Ed*ard Teller @ 370
Great story! The funny thing about Raven was how gray his muzzle became when he was about 9. When we found the cancer and he went through chemo his gray seemed to wash away!
SunnyNobility @ 369
Damn. Couldn’t sleep.
IANAL, but IMHO: It’s not double jeopardy if they are different crimes. In this case, it’s perjury and obstruction. The follow on cases would be espionage and IIPA violation. Those seem different enough. Granted the perjury and obstruction were with regard to the “underlying cases.”
