Merle! I’m not as isolationist as this song gets, but word to the GOP: When you’ve lost Merle Haggard, you’ve lost America. In fact, the only thing that can save the Republicans after today’s fiasco is a Democratic Party too timid to do its job. As I’ve said before, Hag and a lot of other swing voters aren’t “bipartisan” – they’re antipartisan. They’re not waiting for Gerald Rafshoon and some other Beltway insiders to serve up some mushmouthed centrist pablum. They’re looking for people with spine.
This is Day Two of Late Nite FDL under Country Music Occupation. I love it – but even if you don’t, don’t leave this video before Merle says it plain and simple: “Get out of Iraq.” Do you think the 70%-plus of Americans who agree want to hear that “we don’t have a veto-proof majority”? They want action. Show them. Make Bush veto an end to the bloodshed. That won’t hurt you politically – and you’ll respect yourself in the morning.
As for today’s Scooter madness, mad love to Jane and the whole FDL crew for their incredible coverage all along. This isn’t the end. It’s the beginning, at least if Congress keeps pushing forthe truth. By keeping Scooter out of prison Bush has revealed not only his own venality, but his entire party’s. If the Democrats fight, today’s action can be one battle on the road to victory.
Scooter’s just a part of Cheney’s machine – the Lizard Brain that runs the government, almost autonomically, on behalf of the GOP and its sponsors. It’s not surprising that Cheney would argue he’s not part of the Executive Branch. These guys have always felt they were above the law. I want that to stop. I bet Hag does, too. I don’t know if that guy who calls himself “Mudcat” thinks it’s uncivil of me to think Scooter should pay for his crime, but I care more about what Merle thinks. He paid his debt to society; Scooter didn’t.
Dems have to investigate Cheney, and hammer him on the argument (even if it’s retracted) that he’s in both the Executive and the Legislative Branches, and therefore bound by neither. It’s the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. The state of his office depends on the observer, not the office itself.
Remember “Schrödinger’s Cat”? It’s neither alive nor dead until the box containing it is opened. Now Cheney’s lawyers have invented Quantum Law – but guess what? Congressional subpoenas are the equivalent of opening the box.
Light. It can be either a particle or a wave. Thanks to Cheney, we now learn that the same is true of darkness. Most Americans outside the beltway want the madness to stop. Step up, Democrats.

FITZ! Now more than ever!
Amen and amen! From a fellow country music fan!
Step up, Democrats!
And don’t just tell us to make phone calls to the White House! We’ll do our part — but you DeeCee Democrats need to do your part too.
Step up, Democrats!
Madness, madness, madness!
RJ Eskow, I don’t think it is all that isolationist. It says “rebuild America first” —- not instead.
G’evening RJ. Nice to see your voice here at the lake.
And now this post is back — or was I hallucinating?
Hi, everybody. Great to be here at FDL. (Thanks, Jane!)
How is everybody in Radioland??
Hiya, RJ!
RJ Eskow @ 10
The TOOBZ are on fire tonight!
Are we rolling downhill like a snowball headed for hell?
Good post for tonight’s mood. I’m reading Einstein, so I’m lovin’ the modern physics lingo, too!
I hope it’s true that democracy is comin’ to the U.S.A…
oh nevermind
LoudounLib, the post briefly disappeared. I saw a typo and when I fixed it I accidentally placed it in “draft” mode.
Sorry – but you’re not hallucinating, at least about that …. I’m just gettin’ the hang of the controls on this thing.
And hey, Teddy! How’s life in my former home town?
Merle’s house is across the road and up the hill from where my folks live in California.
To Marshen’s question: Yes.
That was easy.
Matt, your folks live in a great part of the state. Check out Merle’s song “Kern River.” He name-checks Shasta …
1.Susan McDougal (White Water) 18 months in prison including 7 weeks in solitary confinement for civil contempt of court.
2.Martha Stewart convicted on four counts of obstruction of justice and lying, 5 months jail time served.
3.Judith Miller sent to jail after a federal judge declared that she was “defying the law.” Jail time 85 days.
4.Paris Hilton violating probation, jail-time 23 days.
5.Scooter Libby convicted of four felony counts: obstruction of justice, giving false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and committing perjury twice before the grand jury. 30 month sentence. Number of days to be spent in jail; 0.
Get Out of Jail Free Card.
Priceless.
Don’t Leave Home without it.
Scooter Libby; Lifetime member of the Good Ole Boys Club
For those who missed Keith tonight, truly epic Olbermann. And the last 45 seconds will blow you away.
Anybody have word on what if anything the Democrats are going to do as a response to this?
Evening all. Has everyone adjusted to the fact that we no longer live in a nation of laws, but rather a nation of men? My outrage really has no limits, even though I knew this was coming. Impeach them all now!
Eureka Springs @ 15
Watching former Ahnuld spokesblonde Karen Hanretty on AC360 tonite was hysterical — someone didn’t get her “commutation” fax with the talking points! She was all over Bill Clinton about his pardons, then started off on “This wasn’t even really a pardon” in a pouty voice. AC360 cut her off when she started talking about “President Clinton’s action today….”
It was embarassing. I think the VRWC is down for the holiday, and TradMed is pissed they can’t get “balance” for that attention-seeking former Ambassador who seems to pop up everywhere!
You go, Joe Wilson!! And David Schuster too!!
DrDick @ 22
A nation of evil, selfish, self-centered, criminal men.
RockPaperScissors says:
And talk about “no underlying crime …”
And Teddy, I saw Karen Hanratty too. Embarrassing. But Anderson Cooper was terrific. As a longtime CNN critic, I say give the man his due.
RJ, I love Merle! Even though he wasn’t really an Okie from Muskogie. And his words about America have changed since when he hated us.

Teddy, I saw that too — what a hoot!
And Shuster needs his own show.
By their works shall ye know them
good advice I think so listen up & do some stuff elected Democratic officials

The stars aligned today. Between the Libby fiasco and Democracy now with a little bit of Pinnochio thrown in, the blog post came together. It’s time for some whistling—and I don’t mean in the wind.
(please excuse a little wh*ring. I don’t do it often.)
Democracy is Comin!

SnarKassandra @ 25
This is, and has been for fifty years, the real Republican agenda: a two tiered system One set of rules for the rich and powerful and another for the rest of us. The only thing conservatives wish to conserve is elite privilege.

If there is a God®, Shuster will get one. Tweetys.

Loo Hoo, Merle says now that he was getting stoned on his tour bus when he wrote Okie From Muskogee. Plausible – especially with lines like “Leather boots are still in style for manly footgear.” That would leave anybody chuckling into their thai stick ..
Hey, did anybody catch the quick “Veterans For Peace” sticker in the video? Missed it the first time. Merle, I love ya, buddy …..
Wow – comments coming fast and definitely furious.
Someone should introduce impeachment of Cheney for crimes against the state. And let’s follow it where it goes.
RJ!!
Great post. And I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that Schroedinger bit. That “thought experiment” has never made a lick of sense to me. I hear “dead cat” and all analytical thought goes out the window. All I can think is, “Dr. Schroedinger, you HEARTLESS BASTARD!! CATKILLER!!”
He’s Bill Frist’s spiritual forebear.
Mutant Poodle @ 43
Kusinich was at 11 congresspeople this morning. Where will he be tomorrow?
newtonusr @ 34
Poetic justice would demand Tucker’s.
You guys, RJ was a dream to work with on getting his post set up tonight. I just assigned him a log-in and password, and he rolled with it.
If only all our guest-posters could be so WordPress savvy.
TRex – thanks!!
I can’t believe I overlooked the connection between Schrodinger’s cat and Bill Frist.
Except with Frist the cat always dies …
RJ Eskow @ 43
Have to say that as I was living 30 miles east of Muskogee when the song came out it was a huge hit in every hippie bar in NE Oklahoma. FYI, at the time (and possibly still) Muskogee was in the heart of Oklahoma’s marijuana growing region (which surpassed wheat as the leading cash crop a decade ago).

This administration needs a Jiminy Crickit. Very nice job, RevDeb.

Welcome, RJ!!
How can Candy Crowley say, with a straight face; “This will not be a campaign issue!”??? I’m aghast!!!
TRex @ 47
So, TRex, what you had a hot date tonight?
Turns out that the mad UK bomber is an Iraqi doctor. Not so important that he’s a doc- although that’s interesting- more important that he’s Iraqi- so the bombing- such as it was- occured cause the Poodle decided to follow an idiot into war.

Oh my. i’m gonna have to get the dvr set up. i missed keith o tonight, and i sure dont’ want to miss him tomorrow.
i just wanted to mention that i loved the venom in john edwards’ statement. good to see that someone on the dem side is ready to really get out the claws. i also loved this statement by conyers, which someone linked to in one of the earlier threads. the first two sentences in particular are fantastic.

Elliott @ 60
Enough chocolate doesn’t exist to sugar coat this travesty. Believe me, I know.
It won’t be an issue cause Bush AIN’T RUNNIN.
Thank all of you who tried to answer my questions. I think that John Powers response at #207 and looseheadprop at #218 were very helpful.
John’s dealt with how someone parsed Fitz’s response to the bush commute and of course looseheadprop deals with the guidelines for pardons.
So when did Libby’s legal team submit a request for clemency? That’s if they did at all and why have we not heard about it? Was it done in the dead of night like all things done by Republicans?
I will wait and see what occurs over the next few days, but it looks like he’s covering up crimes in the White House and I hope there is an outpouring of backlash against this administration.
Good night.
RockPaperScizzors @ 19
On January 1, 1975, Haldeman (of Watergate notoriety) was convicted of conspiracy and obstruction of justice and sentenced to an 18-month prison sentence, which he served in Lompoc Federal Prison.
On February 21, 1975, John Mitchell (Nixon’s Gonzo) was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury and sentenced to two and a half to eight years in prison for his role in the Watergate break-in and cover-up, which he dubbed the White House horrors. The sentence was later reduced to one to four years by United States District Court Judge John J. Sirica. Mitchell served only 19 months of his sentence, at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, a minimum security prison, before being released on parole for medical reasons. (source: Wiki)
But even Nixon had too much shame to pardon them or commute their sentences.

Big Mitch:
On February 21, 1975, John Mitchell (Nixon’s Gonzo) was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury …
That’s because we had a relatively independent press in those days. Today Joe Klein et al. would be writing editorials saying it would be a travesty of justice if these fine gentlemen were to see the inside of a prison.
rwcole @ 76
Just because he ain’t running, doesn’t mean the Repugs won’t reap what he has sown!!! *g*
rwcole @ 77
Yes it is. From now on every time the Rethugs bring up their signature “law and order” issues, we greet them with derisive laughter and ask, “What about Scooter?” We hang this one around their necks, along with the Iraq debacle, the GOP culture of corruption, and the rampant malfeasance an incompetence in the administration. We make them own what they are.
Shadowstalker @ 37
Just watched it, myself. Holy shit!
Has Hillary commented on all this by now?
CTuttle @ 55
I now end Candy Crowley’s sentences with the words “in bed.” Kinda like a fortune cookie.
“This will not be a campaign issue… in BED.”
See, it’s fun!
CTuttle @ 55
Ignore. Along with so many others. The MSNBC poll tonight, for example, only surveys the likes of us. Most people don’t follow politics like we do. And many who do, like my dad, his wife, and my mom, aren’t even connected. But they’ll see the news tonight and read the papers tomorrow. I’ll bet when the scientific polls come out, Bush’s approval on this commutation are even worse.
I won’t bet over $100. though.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, presidential candidate
“Today’s decision is yet another example that this Administration simply considers itself above the law. This case arose from the Administration’s politicization of national security intelligence and its efforts to punish those who spoke out against its policies. Four years into the Iraq war, Americans are still living with the consequences of this White House’s efforts to quell dissent. This commutation sends the clear signal that in this Administration, cronyism and ideology trump competence and justice.”
It’s difficult to remain calm when Bush basically flips off the country yet again. It’s like he’s daring the Democrats to begin impeachment proceedings, knowing they won’t.

mulligatawny @ 106
Sounds like high crimes and misdemeanors to me. So is she going to come out for impeachment? That’s all I want to know from everyone coming out with a statement. Will you back impeachment or not? Will you speak out for it or not? Will you act to make it happen or not? Period.

NOW!
My mind’s hip-hoppin’ all over the place but I guess I’m really not surprised.
All the talk about Libby’s friends putting pressure on the White House?, I think it was really the White House getting the public used to the idea that Libby would not spend any time in jail, not one minute.
I should’ve realized this was inevitable the minute the concept of commutation was “floated”
There better be fall-out.
“This commutation sends the clear signal that in this Administration, cronyism and ideology trump competence and justice.” Well, Duhhh!!!, where have you been, Ma’am??? Hmmm…??? C’mon, Hill, I know you could do better than that drivel!!! 8-(

Alright RJ, you made me bust this one out.
These are the words I want to hear Democrats say tomorrow morning, or I too will be mad:
I think that’s pretty much the consensus … It’s nice that they’re saying the right things, but will they follow up by investigating? If not, it will read as more posturing.

TRex, If you are still here: Was it you or TSF that posted the tutorial on letter writing to congresscrtitters and LTE’s? I did not save the page, however if you can direct me to it, I will now. Previous to today I was just irritated, disgusted and sick about this mal-admin. Now I’m pissed!
rat bastahd @ 107
Ooh. Ask him straight up, with no leading: “what is your opinion of pres. bush commuting the sentence of irving scooter libby?”. then, if he replies with anything that is short of total outrage, ask him if he believes the revealing of a covert cia agent working on investigating wmds in iran, and the coverup of this treasonous activity, does not warrant any jail time. That this man, convicted on multiple counts of obstructing justice and lying repeatedly to the Fbi and grand jury, does not deserve any jail time whatsoever. I’d love to hear his answer.
finally, you can tell him that you believe that the rule of law is being unjustly crushed by the desire to coverup crimes by the bush administration. (if that’s how ya feel about it).
do let us know what happens.
I want the Congressional Leadership to recall all members from the holiday recess and start holding hearings on the high crimes and misdeamenors committed by this administration. Every day, Mon – Fri, all day. Until these fuckers are impeached and facing criminal charges.

I don’t really care what the ‘Democrat’ Party is gonna do. I’ve already made up my mind it’s time to…
Take Out the Trash!
They lied about the WMD’s in order to orchestrate a war that has cost us 3500 plus soldiers and the lives of 655,000 plus Iraqi citizens. We invaded and occupied a sovereign country based on Chalabi’s assertions and pressure from Cheney’s Neocons, one of which is Irve Libby. They sacrificed untold lives in order to keep their lie in line, by retaliating against a COVERT CIA agent, whose husband, a commended acting Ambassador to Iraq during the first Gulf War, blew the whistle on their lies.
They are grapping unprecidented power by snubbing all the laws that keep them in check, while locking up people in detention centers like Hutto Texas. They are outlaws, and criminals, and our Congress is mesmerized, paralyzed, and asleep at the wheel…
We’re Here!!!
I’m going to be sick. Then, I’m gonna keep fighting.
I can, unfortunately, remember when Bush was governor of our fair state and was asked why he allowed so many prisoners’ death-penalty sentences to stand.
He said something along the lines of, “It’s not that I want them to die, but as long as that’s the law of the land, then as governor I must uphold the law.”
An angle I’d like to see repeated over and over and over in response to this nonsense is this:
“George Bush, the ‘education president.’ Thanks for the lesson you’ve given every child in this country: If you cover for someone well enough, you will be taken care of.” . . . No Liar Left Behind.
Suzanne @ 135
Yes!!!
I am glad Hillary finally spoke out on the Libby case. Sean Hannity is running a smear campaign and calling it Hillary’s marxist thesis from college in 1969. Hillary has written books and people should know by now that she just wants us all to get an equal share of prosperity. I don’t care how hard the other people worked for what they have I am entitled to have prosperity too.
Hugh @ 113
They won’t go for impeachment, they have already made up their mind.
Heh. Too funny, the only bright spot today is to see Schroedinger mentioned tonight after this debacle.
I’d posted about Schroedinger’s Dick a few days ago, too; keep in mind that ultimately, in Schroedinger’s thought experiment, the outcome was ultimately the same. Only the act of observation itself rendered the outcome from its precursor.
We must do more than observe. It is far past time for observation.
Suzanne @ 135

Questions for Greg Walden:
1. Do you consider obstruction of justice a serious crime?
2. Do you agree with Pres. Bush that judges should follow Federal sentencing guidelines, as was done with Scooter Libby?
3. Libby was convicted by a prosecutor and sentenced by a judge appointed by Republicans. The judge’s decisions were affirmed by some more Republican judges. Do you think Republicans are just bad at appointing prosecutors and judges?
4. Are you soft on national security? Why don’t you care about Iranian nuclear capability? (Tat’s what Valerie Wilson was investigating until the Cheney cabal blew her cover and shut down the entire Brewster Jennings operation.)
Hope that helps. Good luck.
I’m having a hard time articulating how mad i am about this. Mostly because there’s so much that’s so wrong with it. I’ve a sense of balance of things, and the scale just fucking BROKE at this news when i got home from work tonight.

I thought Bush had a Charge to Keep to bring dignity and honor back to the White House? Protecting Traitors vs adultery just what were they teaching Bush at that Bible study he went to? Somehow the phrase by their deeds you shall know them skipped his mind. Besides how can a person be Born Again if they never admit that they are, have done and are doing wrong? Bush never admits to mistakes shouldn’t a man humbled by God be able to admit when their wrong? I think he lied about being born again he doesn’t have the atitude of a humble man. But lying gambler loser he has all the signs of that!

Oh, The Poor Man (via Maha) has a great point about commutation – where was Bush’s compassion during his time as governor of Texas? Maybe Libby would’ve served time in prison if he had been given the death sentence.

Is there a link? Or is it possible to hear the gist/highlights from y’all?
LL, you gave me that can of whoop-ass for “just in case”. Still makes me smile. For those wanting to see it, it is over on my Facebook Page.
Looks like this poll is going to stick at 71% Against Bush’s Decision to Commute Libby’s sentence!

I don’t know about you guys, but I think we – everyone, if possible – should make that 71% felt tomorrow!

And then they’ll send him to Gitmo.

There’s links on that page for WPITW.
Good night. We have stuff going on in the morning that means I can’t sleep late. :(
But I did program a new post to come on to Political Teen Tidbits at 8 AM central time. I want to leave my letter to Bush and the picture of him burning the constitution up and on top over night.

Ask him if he supports Habeas Corpus.
Just as I was getting ready to shut down the computer I stopped at TPM and saw this.
DOJ manual on Commutations (emphasis added) …
Section 1-2.113 Standards for Considering Commutation Petitions
A commutation of sentence reduces the period of incarceration; it does not imply forgiveness of the underlying offense, but simply remits a portion of the punishment. It has no effect upon the underlying conviction and does not necessarily reflect upon the fairness of the sentence originally imposed. Requests for commutation generally are not accepted unless and until a person has begun serving that sentence. Nor are commutation requests generally accepted from persons who are presently challenging their convictions or sentences through appeal or other court proceeding.
(ed.note: Special thanks to TPM Reader KC.)

So even standards are not upheld by these criminals.

Here’s a question …
“Why does George W. Bush hate the rule of law?”
mulligatawny @ 144
Then they can unmake it. Why should we let them weasel out of acting? They make brave statements about how reprehensible Bush’s action was. They say it shows his contempt for the law. Well let’s see them do something real and meaningful about it. And when I say real, I mean impeachment. Why can’t the Democrats stand as firm when it comes to doing something as they do when it comes to not doing something?
NYT’s Editorial: Bush Loves Crimminals

Teddy, she said “above the law”. That does mean lawlessness.

George A. @ 176
Good reading & Thanks: I have been really intrigued by your questions and digging and those of others about the procedures and rules for this.
I think ALL of the standards should be reviewed with a fine magnifying glass and the questions should just keep coming at Bush until he blows …
Starting with: Show us the paperwork, now. If no paperwork, justify the “emergency” etc. that allowed this to happen without proper paperwork.
Looks like the press may be falling out of love with Bush et. al.
It is essential to understand that Bush thinks that the sentence is too harsh…..on himself.
Libby going to jail would be an ongoing reminder and acknowledgment of the criminal corruption at the heart of the Bush administration, and Bush couldn’t bear that.
The ultimate beneficiary of the commuted sentence is Bush himself.
He could care less about Libby or justice or sentences, harsh or otherwise. Just like he could care less about Valerie Plame and her associates or others who got in his way.
Suzanne @ 185

Ohmygod. He was on fire for that WPITW segment, the special comment is going to be incredible. What we saw before will be as nothing to this one. He said exactly what’s on my mind.
Adam Liptak at the NYT in an article entitled: Commutation Doesn’t Equal a Full Pardon gets it wrong.
As he writes,
As I posted earlier today,
From the annotated Constitution: http://www.gpoaccess.gov/const…..02/012.pdf
on pages 485-486 (640K PDF file)
A pardon does not excuse or forgive. It exempts an individual from punishment for a crime he/she has committed.
A commutation lessens a punishment. A pardon does away with it. Neither has squat to do with removing guilt. Neither has anything to do with actions that flow from that guilt such as disbarment.

Steve Earle, firepups.
Well, I’m off to bed. I am getting up at dark-thirty to head up into the mountains in the morning. There is a lovely little lake up there just full of lovely (and tasty) cutthroats just waiting to take the hook. By the way, the rainbow I caught yesterday was delicious.
tex, that’s twice today we done that gmta thing :)
I’m back with plenty of hot chocolate and ice cream for everyone, as requested.

Posting this again from a previe thread, and I’ll repost it again I believe:
Just a quick thank you to all who posted letter/emails of what they sent.
I drew a bit from all, and added my own words, and they were harsh.
I am now completing the voter registration form I’ve been sitting on, to Decline To State.
Ms. Pelosi, Ms. Feinstein, Ms. Boxer and Ms. Matsui were all informed tonight that they are fired.
I called their inactions a deceipt cast upon the trust of our votes, and treasonous to the Constitution, The Republic and the general masses.
That’s just a general view of what I wrote to all of them.
I have phone #’s for Feinstein, Boxer and Matsui in Sacramento, and will be burning up the lines tomorrow . . . alas, I can’t afford 202 Area Code calls, but, I’ll let the emails speak for me.
It’s my consideration, nothing will change until the people of the USA take to the streets in non-violent demonstration . . . by the tens of millions . . . as long as that does not happen, then we are as traitorous to ourselves as the corrupted elected officials we voted for who have sold us out and lied to us about it all.
Harumph.
Twain @ 236
Someone at the Orangerie just linked to that poll. The late nighters there are at work. I did my part earlier, debating on pulling the two browser trick.

Mocha chunk with Mrs Richardson’s chocloate lover’s sauce, Thank you very much.
What is Wilson, in his interview with KO, referring to when he says something about an a political accolyte spending time with a Russian attache …Did anyone catch that? what is he talking about???? Is it hypothetical, or is he talking about something that happened? It is in the video of the interview tonight.

On the upside, Bush decided we’ll be able to use Scooter’s stem cells in life-saving research.
TexB @ 246
I could get serious about that, TexB!
TexB @ 246
Chocoholic is my middle name ;-)
In Blackadder, A Christmas Carol, the kindly and generous proprietor of the mustache emporium, Ebenezer Blackadder, after having witness the deeds of his infamous ancestors and seen the future, comes to the conclusion that bad guys have all the fun. After today, one might see how this might be so. However, just as the decision of Blackadder to follow in the footsteps of his notorious ancesters cost him dearly, so will the presidential decision in the Scooter case prove to be the frozen limit.
I expect that the decision by the president to throw out the sentence will do far more harm to his position and his party than all the outrages that have occurred on his watch up to now, combined. We shall see, I expect.
Patrick 4/4 @ 248

TRex @ 259
Go straight to the ice cream – Suzanne is serving.
Demi’s in the house, lakehouse that is.
I was here All afternoon and had to take a break, that and had to go worry my head off about my other son (the one who doesn’t have Asperger’s) but is in a bit of a crisis.
Nothing to be done, so I’ve come back to dip in da lake.
Maybe I’m just wacko, but I think Wilson said something about somebody spending time with a Russian attache and revealing the identity of a CIA agent…Putie is visiting….W commutes the sentence…someone look into this. Wilson slipped this into the interview with KO. Is this something or is it not? There is no transcript. Just the video on MSNBC. It is at the end of the interview.
Maybe I just need some chocolate. Someone go listen.
TexB @ 257
Shrub’s legacy’s primary value will be its usefulness for parents needing anecdotes to scare their children straight
RevDeb @ 262
Very classy. I like your style Rev!
LS @ 244
I think he was comparing the Mayflower breakfast Scooter had with Judy Miller, where he leaked the NIE, to an acolyte of the Pres & Veep sitting down with an enemy of the state (Russian) and telling them secret information.
I think.
LS, it was the allegory about if it had been a russian spy that the plame info was leaked to instead of american media what would the reaction be then.
RevDeb @ 262
oooo aahh
demi @ 264
Good to see you back here. Help yourself to chocolate in its many forms.
So, did RJ take his leave? I know it’s somewhere upthread, but I thought maybe you guys could give me the quick answer.
SPEW ALERT —- DO NOT READ UNTIL YOU FINISH EATING.
Forgive me if I am re-posting.
Cheney’s comments:
TeddySanFran @ 268
I think he was sayin’ that if his wife had sat down and spilled to a Russian attache, the calls for mercy wouldn’t be so loud.
RJ went to get something to eat, and remembered to ask us if we wanted anything (hint).
I had my heart set on Scooter in an orange jumpsuit.

Late to the thread… (((Elliott))) I missed you.
Well my weak words fall away like summer rain, but my anger stays like a herd freeze. Nothing reaches into the beltway and as I watch this feel the gaze of my father and all my ancestors on my weak hands from the first marines which were lead by a Glover to those that serve now, I can do little as one man but this must end, I only add my voice to this as I can do little else.

So did I…
hehe.. CNN just reported that ALL GOP candidates are avoiding the major Latino political convention, which traditionally draws all candidates of all parties.. ALL Dems showed up. 1) Am I the only person without a refresh button?
2) Did Teddy ever post the winners of the what gift to bring to the pity party?
3) Did everybody email or fax their reps?
LS @ 244
He’s done this before… to try to get average Americans to say the word treason… what Libby did to his wife was treason, so he sets a parallel scene which is easier for the average American to follow
… if Libby (accolyte) had been talking to a Russian agent (instead of Miller) during a morning meeting at a hotel, his leaks would be called treason
melfeasance @ 299
well sometimes my hands say more than my mind intends.
david s @ 191
This is true. The official spin has already gone out that the Libby outrage will not hurt the WH politically. In other words, their calculus has less to do with justice, but more how the Libby case affects the WH politically.
The RW is celebrating this as some kind of vindication of everthing Bush stands for, but the long term price is going to be larger than they think.
Liberals/progressive, need to frame the whole Plame/Libby thing in terms of the Bush White House engaging in treason and getting away with it. That needs to be done. We need to turn the game around and paint them as traitors.
Goodnight, otherdeb. And, my, you have Big Chocolate.

When did Merle become one of us dirty fucking hippies?
Jane asks out to channel our outrage. Here is a way to do so. Writr to HRcritters about impeachment of the Dicktator, referencing the bill in Congress.
The websites have a place for signaling the relevant legislation. The bill is H. RES. 333,
110th CONGRESS, 1st Session and there are presently 11 sponsors.
It’s title is “Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors”
Doesn’t that sound, well, peachy?
Great tune. Thanks for the Hag. There is another great song on that CD titled “Where’s all this freedom that we’re fighting for.” I play music myself and bought the CD last year so I could perform these tunes. Bush family should be stripped of everything they have gained by deception. Which would be everything they have.
When you’ve lost Merle Haggard, you’ve lost America.
