Saturday (tomorrow) midnite is the last chance to give our Blue Americans some Second Quarter Love — tomorrow is the last day of the quarter, and we want our candidates to have a great Second Quarter, don’t we? Second Quarter is when our candidates get to show they’ve got the wide, broad, grassroots support required to keep primary opponents at bay. It’s also when GOP incumbents look at their possible opponents’ fundraising prowess and start to wonder whether they really want to stay in the minority another two years.
We can make the first prospect — and the second! — very real. Shake out those Levi’s in the hamper, look for those extra five- and ten-spots. As usual, no one should go without necessities! But if there’s a luxury purchase you can postpone to contribute to a Blue America candidate, now would be a good time.
Here’s some of my favorite chats, since you asked:
Please throw some dollars at the BlueAmerica PAC as well, if you’ve got them to spare, so that our terrific team can put some phenomenal new ads on the air where it matters in 2008. Finally, please remember the innovative and deserving folks at ActBlue when it comes time to checkout, with a tip.

Is your name TSF?
MJ, thanks for your commentary prevthread. I have not read anybody else chastize Biden about his “community” talk. In that context, “Obama’s been tested, too” lines up pretty well with “Mary Cheney’s a lesbian” from our standup guy last time around.
Thanks for your perspective.
TexB at 16:
“You have a preference TSF?”
I thought that Teddy’s preference was well-known… *g*
Well, TexB, I do have a preference. Oh, you meant food….

i love that that has its special political relevance now.

Ah, if only I could still fit in that red dress I wore dancing, along with those CFM strappy sandals with the 4 inch heels. I can almost taste the lambrusco and feel the film of cigarettes.

Of the Perps!!!
Just stepped into the lake and noticed praise of Wes Clark in the last thread. I think Clark is playing many of us like a two dollar fiddle. The tell for me is his support Gang of fourteen member Democratic Senator Mark Pryor (AR) who considers Joe Lieberman his mentor and votes with Lieberman at the worst of times.
Today I received another email from Wes that is packed full of falsehood after falsehood in re Pryors current situation and his record.
First let me say Pryor has no known D opponent in the midst anent his next campaign 08. The only rumor of a possible opponent from Republican side is Mike Huckabee who would lose to Pryor, imo. In other words Pryor is under NO threat of losing his seat.
Wes Clarks letter sent out today.
We on the left may indeed be impressed with much of what Clark has said in the past as well as his support for Ned Lamont last Summer… but everything Wes is doing with this letter in his home state where standing up and exposing him for the miserable embarrassment he is, proves to me beyond reasonable doubt Wes is either grossly misinformed or making one very bad triangle for political gain.
A few points about Mark Pryor
Voted for cloture on Alito
Voted for Gonzo as AG
Voted for Bankruptcy bill
Voted for Alice Fisher Assist US AG
For torture bill
Voted to end Habeas Corpus
For cloture Child interstate abortion notification act (Mark is anti choice and says so)
Voted to continue Iraqi occupation this March and May (2007)
Has stated with no doubt he is ready to end net neutrality as soon as he can.
Mark Pryor is a plague on our
partydemocracy.. and Wes Clark is going to bat for him, even when it is not necessary…Teddy, we need to slap this man back a step, quickly… After all he quite possibly laid low in hopes of a VP nomination this year… this needs to be exposed and discussed in the blogos, imo. Wes Clark deserves no support as a VP candidate unless he makes a full reversal on Mark.
P.S. Mark launched his reelection bid earlier this year in Little Rock with an 800k fund raiser which Wes helped out as much as could at that time.
Darkblack, you have surpassed even your own very high standards. I salute you.
TexB @ 29

TeddySanFran @ 72
Possible answers
Money, imo.
Both are from the same neighborhood (my grandmothers neighborhood) so old loyalties with the wrong crowd??
Wes should be standing by the principals he is known to express at ykos and in CT last year..and running against Mark this year… he is most likely the only person who could beat Mark while promoting the correct messages, like Ned did.
Also wtf..is Wes doing playing some rovian fear card at this point in time when there is no evidence I know of this being true. Nor does he cite any. Wes should attack rove not promote fear of him, imo.

really excellent.
TSF, I have been wanting for some time to thank you for the really helpful insight you provided a while back re: Specter.
I’m curious about your take on his staff member having *unbeknownst to him* slipped into law the interim USA provision. I have noticed Specter seemingly being ultra-cooperative with Leahy of late and wondered if it might be a trade-off for not calling his bluff. Wouldn’t a staff member be permanently burned for pulling a stunt like that? (At least without a wink and nod?)
Petrocelli @ 82
Aloha Oe, Petro!!! *g*
I gotta say, Double Gitmo Mitt is taking a beating on this dog-on-the-roof story, throughout the blogo.
Clueless & Cruel
SunnyNobility @ 85
Somehow the Scottish Haggis comes out!!!
Teddy, Also we know the Clintons have a long history with both the Pryor family and Lieberman back to their collage days.. Could Wes be helping Lieber candidates as a favor for Hillary in hopes of a VP rider?
No matter who might consider Wes as a VP candidate (or anything else) these questions need to be very clearly brought forth and answered by anyone willing to promote Wes..
Wes knows of his hypocrisy here.
TeddySanFran @ 87
sadistic ken doll
SunnyNobility @ 85
IIRC:
– Specter had just gotten out of the hospital and was still on chemotherapy.
– The scoundrel had moved on to replace one of the fired US Attorneys, or something like that.
That said, I share you disgust and bewilderment that this fool has not been locked up.
SunnyNobility @ 85
You are more than welcome. I believe that staff member who slipped the Patriot Act provision in *unbeknownst to him* is now a USAttorney. So, he is beyond the reach of the JCommittee.
The surprising thing to me was seeing Orrin Hatch join the Democrats when the NSA subpoenas were authorized. Now *that* was a shock.
Eureka Springs @ 89
Yeah, I got that same e-mail as you. I think from signing his “stop iran war” petition.
TeddySanFran @ 87
Adios ole Gitmo Mitt – one down – how many does that leave in the rethug cave?
A commenter at Swampland, adding to the many deep thoughts already expressed by Ana[l] Marie Cox re the Romney Canine Fiasco, points out: “If the ‘windscreen’ was effective, how did the dog poop escape from the crate?”
It just keeps getting deeper. Double Gitmo Mitt will be forever known as the candidate whose Dad’s campaign imploded on VietNam brainwashing and whose own campaign imploded on dogshit.
heh
TeddySanFran @ 95
Does that make it a double barney?
TeddySanFran @ 92

yellowdog jim @ 126
I’d guess that Specter, like any busy executive, relies on his staff to prepare documents for his signature. But in most industries, any staff member who’d deceive their their boss that way would be black-balled and out of a job. But in Bush-era conservativism, Tolman is viewed as a hero.
Lobbyists seem to be the folks who write to much of our law, no? There was another former Orrin Hatchling…now chief of staff for Specter..who Tolman contacted and had the AG appointment provision entered into the Patriot act at the last moment… his name: Michael O’Neil… lots of Hatchlings in dangerous positions throughout and many attended George Mason University..

good morning from rainy and delightful Dublin, where I am spending the last day of my vacation, after 2 weeks of spoiling the kids, staying up too late with the younger adults who are celebrating graduations, generally having a fine time – with a Peter Gabriel/Crowded House show thrown in for good measure. (I hadn’t seen that much rain and mud at a concert since Woodstock).
Just wanted to send some love (and cash) to Blue America, FDL, and all the firepups. Thanks for reminding me the quarter was ending. Hadn’t been online in weeks and lost track of deadlines.
I did discover that I can ignore the cyber world for up to 14 days at a time, but it requires getting on a boat and cruising thru Ireland’s waterways, with kids to teach about how to birdwatch, keep the boat in order and on course, and being out of range of cellphones, tv and internet connections for most of the time. I recommend it for anyone who’s burned out.
Modest donations now, the euro’s strength kicked my butt on this trip, but have some plans to do some decent contributions later this summer. Delighted that BA has added Donna Edwards to the list, she’ll be a powerful addition to the progressive wing of the House.
And am even more delighted to hear the good news that Jane has finished the last chemo treatment. We all keep you in our thoughts/prayers Jane, and expect that we’ll have many more years to work, laugh and love together.

Morning fellow Georgians. Raven did you finally receive rain yesterday? Two days in a row for Roswell, yahoo..
Good morning, Raven — and Mr. Bill if you’re still here although your post is an hour old.
Good morning pups!
Good morning, pups. Today the NYT has Timothy Egan saying that the war in Iraq is now like a post-apocalyptic science fiction film like “Blade Runner,” and Bob Herbert who hopes that what’s going on in the Supreme Court will convince black people that voting is important.

Good Morning, Pups!

A Blue Moon (2nd full moon in same calendar month) happens about once every five and a half years.
Enjoy!
morning all!
did anyone catch bill moyers last night? the first part of the show is on congress/bush trade deals from this past week. i’m just listening now – wow! highly recommended – looks like there are some big trade bills coming up for a vote in either july or september…. that need to be opposed. david sirota has been warning us about a sell out to corporate interests – looks like this is what has happened.
will study up and post some info in later comments.
Just wanted to offer up a thought I couldn’t share during this week’s white house soopeenee fest.
Sure, I’m frustrated like everyone else at the stonewalling but, as I’ve written before-
“Better to stonewall the documents and be thought a criminal, than to turn over those documents and remove all doubt.”
I think it’s safe to say most people that read and contribute to FDL assume the withheld documents contain very incriminating stuff (me too).
So, putting yourself in their shoes (that “whoosh” you just heard was your morals & principles leaving, but hey- go check your bank account and stock options now) when would you prefer to face embarrassment, humiliation & possible jail time? Before the Boy Blunder leaves office, or after?
So, IMHO all the delay and legal wrangling means they have much to hide, and I have every confidence that Waxman, Leahy & Conyers will get that rock turned over eventually.
It’s over.
Painstakingly slow.
But it’s over.
Democracy as we knew it will soon be back in town.
STTP in Ohio @ 158 –
have your read mike stark’s dkos diary and listened to his clip of the bloggers conference with speaker pelosi?
sounds like the plan is to use the oversight process to build a record that will convince the voters to vote D. no impeachment, no jail time.
recommend to all – listen to it all (reading the transcript doesn’t capture the tone). other good stuff too on iraq.
