Kristin Hersh kicks so much ass. Whether she’s solo and acoustic or plugged in and churning the air into boiling sonic lava with her guitar, she just keeps making great music.

My 2nd Zed for the day?
Looks like, Demi…
so close!
whoa…maybe I should make a run for vegas, with this luck.
Drei!
Sex!
Thank you, TRex.
Wow! Congrat, Demi. Doubles!
CTuttle @ 6
Oops, freudian slip!!!
The song’s not playing for me, TRex.
Miz Tex Betsy, where are you?
CTuttle @ 9
Would you like to lie down right here on the couch, CTuttle? *g*
Did anyone here see Tula’s thread about worker rights?
I shared this you tube link
She’s just SO awesome.
Hi again. Did anyone announce this on the last thread?
Loo Hoo. @ 10
Oh, balls. YouTube had a “Doing maintenance! Some functions may not be enabled!” sign up. Maybe embedding is one of those functions.
Thanks, Loo Hoo!
We take ‘em where we can get ‘em.
TexB @ 14
CT did, Tex
Hey Suzanne, is it the length of comments or the quantity of comments that limit the discussion on any particular post. Sorry, you must get asked this a million times.. just curious.
Anything fun happen downstairs after I left?
Loo Hoo. @ 12
Thanks, however, I’m happily married! (With Wifey-Poo, looking over my shoulder!) *g*
do-si-do @ 18
On regular threads, we like for the subject of the thread to be discussed before going off topic. Certain posts, like Book Salon, or Q&A’s we like to keep restricted to the topic and off topic discussions carry on in the thread below.
Late Nite threads, however, encourage off topic discussions (but of course, we do like comments about the posts too).
TRex @ 19
Suzanne saved you a snack. Right Suzanne?
TRex @ 19
A lingering discussion about the Edwards’ new home and some bootie shakin’ on the smackdown of A/C.
Folks have been invited over…
TRex @ 19
I found today’s Froomkin post quoted a Helpless Dancer comment from the Lake.
I swear, after what the Supremes have done this week, the next time I hear a rightard utter the words “activist judges” there will be blunt-force trauma.
Doesn’t anybody on that side have any principles? Even one?
Stashed the downstairs thread’s snacks in the fridge, Tex. TRex, there are cookies and milk and a fruit/cheese tray.
Loo Hoo,
I might have to come lie down on your couch.
Ha Ha, but not really funny.
No spoons tonight.
I might be leavin’ LA.
Found a really cute little 3 bedroom on land with mature trees in Albuquerque for 104,000.
do-si-do @ 23
I don’t know why people are picking on Edwards, the man was a great trial lawyer
and they should fear his snark, if they were smart enough ...
burnspbesq @ 25
This is a good reason for me to keep the .41 magnum locked away, unloaded, in the closet.
And no they have no principles.
This has been another edition of simple answers to simple questions.
burnspbesq @ 25

FINAL VOTE RESULTS FOR ROLL CALL 596
Emanuel of Illinois Amendment (cut off Cheneys budget)
Cheney won the day by nine votes.. 24 of which were Dems.
Meanwhile, in the Granite State:
The poll also shows President Bush’s approval rating is a paltry 14% in the Granite State.
How low can he go?

CTuttle @ 20
I was being the psych, not the floosie!
Suzanne @ 21
Did someone say ‘Food Fight’!!! Yaay!!! (Ducking under Desk!) However, I’m not wasting my Pizza!!! ;-)
burnspbesq @ 25
Term is done..I think gutting Brown was just a warm up to Roe.
No.
Spew Alert!
Colbert: “The country crying out for a hot freedom injection is…Iran.”
don’t make me put my hands on my hips, CT. no food fights at the lake. evah. nothing uglier than water with food in it – yeck
Loo Hoo. @ 34
Wasn’t Sure!!! *wink* *g*
demi @ 28
Wow, demi. Were you looking or just stumble on it?
Now, who was it that requested the strawberry shortcake?
And the silk pie?
Food fight?
Here’s some red gatorade in your faces!
Spelashhhhh
Suzanne @21
Gotcha.
I was just wondering if you all have to start a new thread every 200 or so comments. or whatever. not trying to hone my zed skillz.
totally get the on-topic protocol and vow never to be the first to wander off topic on any particular thread! Pledging allegiance to FDL protocol here…
Suzanne @ 39
mumble, mumble, Ooh alright then!!! :P
Loo
It’s been comin’.
He needs someone who Wants to help him pay that Alimony.
Eureka Springs @ 32
What is wrong with the dems?
TexB @ 42
Mine! Mine! Mine!
All that bike riding certainly hasn’t helped Dick Cheney’s organ grinding Chimp.
-GSD
Betsy, silk pie, that would be me…..mmm, silk pie…ahahahahahahaha.
do-si-do @ 44
Late night is often off topic. Late, late night doesn’t even have a topic. So good luck with that allegiance thing.
Thanks for the strawberry shortcake, TexB!
GSD @ 33
Haven’t you heard? He’s been “liberated by unpopularity” per David Brooks.
Had me some banana cream pie last nite.
Yum…
See, I Can Focus on the good stuff, even in hard times.
QQ at demido-si-do @ 44
when making an off topic comment on a daytime thread, for example, i try to check the comment thread to see if (1) anyone else has already broken the news; and (2) where the current discussion of the thread is relative to being on topic.
Of course, breaking news of oh, say, Rove being perp walked, would of course, be the exception that kinda proves the rule.
The threads are actually scheduled by time and not comment number. Late Nite we keep an eye on the numbers because it will be several hours before Day Shift posts a new thread.
I don’t understand what you mean, demi. Costs too much in LA?
TexB @ 42
Thanks for the Shortcake, Betsy !!!
Thank you for the pie, Betsy.
Petrocelli @ 29
He’s one of them. I love the guy’s positions on virtually every issue, but I will be God-damned if I’m voting for one of them for President of the United States of America. If that makes me small-minded, silly, and stupid, so be it.
If y’all are finding this confusing, TRex or Patrick can explain it. Their daddy is one of them. Or, there’s a book called “To Hate Like This Is To Be Happy Forever” that will explain it.
TexB @ 51
Oh yeah, that allegiance thing, like a…what’s the word I’m searching for?…an oath, OATH, that’s it, like a covenant, a solemn promise to uphold uh uh…oh never mind.
demi @ 43
Yee-Haw … it’s on !!!
demi @ 46
ouch! that sounds like it hurts on the insides. (holding out her arms, offerring a hug).
Loo Hoo,
I meant…if I wanna do it on my lonely…yeah…I can buy it outright and do my own thingy.
Petrocelli @ 61
No, it is off. don’t make me stop the car.
(ducks out the door.) You are NOT getting Gatorade in my silk pie!
TexB @ 47
IMHO, Rahm was Nucking Futs to bring this to a vote … the Repugs will paint the Dems as grandstanding and trivial in a time of war …
Hi guys.
The YouTube thing isn’t working for me, either. Guess it really is down for maintenance or something.
Meanwhile, since the new rocker isn’t ready, here’s an old one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..p;search=#
It’s from John Fogerty’s “Long Road Home” DVD, which I just bought a few days ago. It’s terrific – much better than the 1997 effort, I think.
burnspbesq @ 59
I am confused. He is one of what? Christian white male?
Okay, Petro,
Duck…here’s some leftover plane peanuts…in your face.
Suzanne – that’s not too violent, is it?
A hah! Watch out you zed seekers of daytime FDL!
Oh my, demi. YGM
Suz-
go ahead. pull over. Ha.
burnspbesq @ 59
I get it — am from the quintessential Duke family going back generations. My daughter did UG there and is now back in law school.
It’s a testament to how strongly I feel about John and EE that I support him. We just don’t discuss basketball.
Trust me….the first song I was taught as a child was the Blue Devil Fight Song — complete with the GTHC refrain.
You’re all welcome. Please bus your own tables and use those napkins I gave you. No chocolate mustaches!
TexB @ 47
Just a few vertabrae short of a spine, I think.
TexB @ 47
Good Question! One of my congresscritters didn’t vote, Ambercrombie, it had better be for geographical reasons!!! 8-(
burnspbesq @ 59
ROFL. Yeah, I wouldn’t want to be wrong by voting for the wrong guy who might be right on a lot of things.
Cujo359 @ 75
How many is a few?
TexB @ 74
That would be yellow, for banana, mustache.
And, by the way, did y’all survive the rain?
demi @ 72
giving demi The LQQk
TexB @ 78
All of them.
Suzanne @ 64
Maw-meeeee … demi’s splashin’ me with Red Gatorade !!!
Cujo359 @ 67
I saw Fogerty on Austin City Limits a few months ago. He’s still got it, baby! I was blown away.
Petrocelli,
I think Rahm’s bill was just a way to get the dunderheads thinking that maybe there is a problem with this vice president.
Suzanne,
Ah, you ‘membered, didn’t cha?
You are just too cute!
demi @ 69
Oh, the ‘Hogtown hello’.
;>)
do-si-do @ 53
Brooks is so tiresome – he ought to be kicked off the Newshour – so embarrasing.
You can get into the food fight going on over at Facebook.
burnspbesq @ 59
TRex, please explain … I am not reading any books until I complete mine.
demi @ 79
So far yes, but 3 more days to go. Nephew in Nat’l Guard is up by the Oklahoma border coordinating trucks for rescue efforts and whatever else they’re doing up there. Son is still at summer camp. Hoping he got a top bunk this year. :) Snarky and I are safe and dry.
In my mind, Edwards is the only Dem who truly represents a threat to the system.
I’m not exactly sure what you’re saying about my father, there, but he is a great man who has never been anything other than an ethical, great-hearted, and brave gentleman every day of his life. Our country would be lucky to have a man like my father for a President.
RonD @ 91
Agreed.
Suzanne @ 80
Uhoh! That was in Bold! She means it!!! ;-)
Loo,
Yeah, you reminded me.
If they stop abortion, they get more troops for their wars.
I know, it’s sick, but still…

Our current radar. Ugh!
demi @ 69
Um … demi … that red liquid you were drinking was NOT Gatorade … tee hee hee … jumps into front seat …
demi @ 95
Not to mention more cheap labor.
TexB @ 97
Nasty, nasty. Looks like my son is getting socked as well. Hope he has his life raft handy, since he doesn’t live on a hill.
anything over about 200/ 250 comments stresses the FDL servers. On topic, not on topic. That is why new posts appear after a huge # of comments. Not bec. anyone has done anything bad… expect maybe participate too wildly!
Jane (nyc) @ 73
Please tell Mr. Edwards, that this Canadian salutes all that he stands for.
newspaperbrat @ 87
ohh…you used a “Smith College word”, ‘tiresome’. Yeah, I used to like to listen to get a GOP pulse but jeez, listening to grown men justify a seven-year-old mentality IS tiresome.
RonD @ 91
Barring Gore entering, I whole-heartedly concur!!! My hometown adoration of Obama is fading with each press release!!! ;-)
Petrocelli
Don’t bother about the book. It’s about the Duke-UNC rivalry written from the perspective of a Carolina guy. It’s a bit of a screed and I couldn’t finish it.
I grew up in rural NC and the Carolina fans there are much more rabid (and some might say irrational) than the Duke fans.
Not saying that about JRE though. His UG is from NCSU — but he’s a big UNC basketball fan. However, EE is the truly hard core Heel.
As you would expect, she is classy in her fervor.
I think of all the people who are afraid of Edwards, and-hey!-it’s all the people who should be afraid of somebody:
Big Healthcare. Big Pharma. Big Insurance. Big Oil. Big Defense.
Anyone pissing off all of those people has something going for them.
do-si-do @ 44
I’m more of a late night denizen so i don’t hold to topic much out of habit. *grins* Except for when i comment during the day. Which is happening more and more lately before i head off to work. But i still spend most of the time here on these threads.
While you’re dodging pie and waiting for Utoobs, check out Kristin’s ablog.
wish I could find some of those bootlegs from ‘87…
Gawd! More cheap labor and troops.
Now we are really talking about sum sh*t.
Dammit.
Okay, Petro, what would I be drinking that’s red?
Remember, I’m blonde. Spell it.
Suzanne, ya gotta cottage behind that cottage?
I could use some Redwoods rightabout now.
Why do you think I go camping?
DrDick @ 93
Ditto. I think this is why he garners so much badmouthing from the pundits – he’s a successful guy who actually realizes that part of being that successful is being fortunate, and having the support of others.
Jane (nyc) @ 73
Petrocelli @ 89
See #73.
I was being somewhat facetious. I seem to have crashed and burned, quite ignominiously. I shall now slink away with my tail between my legs.
DrDick @ 93
Yes, I think HRC and OB are so business per usual…so far I like Edwards, and even Dodd, though I suppose some might consider Dodd too DC insider too?
TexB @ 47
These are difficult times, and we can’t be too careful. They might start calling us “defeat donkeys” again, and then where would be be?
blog
Oh, it’s a UNC thing.
Okaaaaaay, never mind.
*hides butcher knife behind back and backs smilingly toward the door*
Jane (nyc) @ 105
LOL !!!
I’m hoping my nephew gets into one of those two Universities on a Basketball scholarship … he’s cut from the same cloth as Edwards … both of ‘em … heart of gold and down to earth lad …
Loo Hoo. @ 84
A cloud perhaps?
I am heading for bed. I can handle spending late nights with a 60 ft therapod, but not a therapod with a kitchen knife. Night all!
burnspbesq @ 111
I understand where you’re coming from — don’t go away! If JRE were to make it to the White House, I’d never hear the end of it. Am just glad a few of my old friends don’t read enoough blogs to know where Addington went to law school. *g*
do-si-do @ 112
do-si-do @ 112
My only problem with Dodd is that no one seems interested in him. He’s not flashy, that’s for sure, and probably isn’t as good a handler of the news agencies as he ought to be.
G’nite, Betsy!
Loo Hoo. @ 84
Is it a problem that a leaky microwave oven couldn’t fix?
Night Betsy. Sleep well. We will do our best to keep the theropod away from the cutlery in the future.
TexB @ 118
Oh, he just wanted to slice another piece of pie, Tex B. nighty night!
“…watch out for that tyrannosaur…he has a knife!”
Night TexB. Ya know, if you focus on that mouth full of six-inch long teeth you won’t be sweating the cutlery as much.
Hey Demi,
Your comment was bifurcated, if you’ll pardon the expression.
Poor Dodd has to share duties with the Big Lieberpud.
Talk about a downer.
-GSD
CTuttle @ 104
Right on!
TRex @ 115
Of course! Being a Bulldog you have an intense dislike for Tar Heels! 8-)
GSD @ 129
Think of the fun you could have, jerking the chair away right before he sits down, tripping him on the way up the stairs, farting noisily and then jumping up and saying, “Jesus Christ, Joe! Could you maybe do that outside?!”
Cujo359 @ 121
Well…you have a point, for sure. Obama could use some help handling news too!
Hey, do you think Edwards could look the ayatollah in the eye and get him to dismantle his nuclear program? J/K. I like Edwards and getting macho isn’t my criteria…hear that, Hillary?
Do-Si-Do
I know, i saw that.
wtf
I was say’in sumthing to the Dr.
My thingy’s all messed up.
Gonna reboot..and be back.
Dude, I could give two shits about college sports. If I had my way, the UGA Athletic Association would be forced to establish itself as a separate corporation from the university, pay massive taxes, and (in a perfect world) play all their games in Atlanta. Football weekends in this town are a fucking hell on earth.
TRex @ 132
707! OK, you got me, you got me!
IMO, We need to come down hard tomorrow on the 24 Dems who let this nation down! Rahm for once did the right thing.
fyi, my 3 cents (for inflation)
I am watching a rerun of the debate on PBS right now. I have always had (and still do) a soft spot for Kucinich but I must say this is the best debate so far for the D team as a whole.
TRex @ 135
I’ve always wondered how you tolerate the influx into Athens for UGA athletic events. *g*
TRex @ 135
Amen, Brother, Amen. Having attended the University of Oklahoma, I developed a distinct loathing for college athletics.
demi @ 134
You were waving to the guy behind me? (blush and slinking away and pretending to fix hair now)
TexB @ 123
HA! Nighty night.
GSD @ 129
That’s misery on a daily basis, for sure.
Eureka Springs @ 137
Weird, Murtha and Obey voted against. They kind of stood out in that crowd from Texas and Florida.
TRex @ 135
I fully appreciate your disdain for sports, fosters undue hostilities! But, Football!, drool, wait, Hockey, Ya gotta love it!!! Did I mention my BoSox??? *g*
Dang, forgot what I was going to say…
Oh yeah, tomorrow. Gap up. Stay up. Go away for the weekend, close higher.
The tech rally is under way. Don’t let it get away. Things may look sleepy but they’re not.
Weird, Murtha and Obey voted against. They kind of stood out in that crowd from Texas and Florida.
Trying to remember as far back as this afternoon… wasn’t some concern expressed about the setting of precident in case there is a republicrook congress trying cut off funding for a dem vp?
or it could be those dayam cleaning fumes messing with my mind again (showing tomorrow morning with an alleged cash buyer)
Dodd: Smells like a Lieber-qweef in here.
Joe: If I weren’t so bi-partisan I’d tell you to go Cheney yourself.
-GSD
do-si-do – Vic Snyder out of Arkansas should have voted correctly as well.. Something has gone awry with him this year and I can’t figure it out.. He voted for funding on the last defense authorization and this amendment.. it’s so disappointing because it’s so uncharacteristic.
Unfortunately I live in the only Republican district in AR. (Boozeman)
A cash buyer? Go Suzanne!
GSD @ 147
Bifartisan fricative?
Good luck with the showing tomorrow, Suzanne.
I live two blocks from the center of town, so every game day, my street is clogged with SUV’s with black and red streamers and paint and big plastic bulldog heads. Oh, and ‘W’ stickers. You don’t dare move your car because you’ll come back in twenty minutes and find a motor home jammed crossways into your space with three generations of drunken fuckheads pissing on the side of your house, while their wives, girlfriends, and daughters set up a grill and start mixing bloody marys.
They’ll stay parked there for, oh, ten or eleven hours, blasting Dave Matthews at ear-splitting volume UNTIL THE GAME COMES ON, when every radio in town gets tuned to the same channel.
And then they sit their on your goddamn lawn AND LISTEN TO THE GAME ON THE FUCKING RADIO!
I’m like, “The football game is JUST HALF A MILE THAT WAY! Get off your fat, polyester swathed asses and go over there and see it! You could have stayed the fuck in Gwinett County and listened to the game on the radio! What the fuck?!”
One time I did bake a batch of Ex-Lax cookies and cheerfully hand them over to the tailgaters in my yard. “How ’bout them Dawgs? Have a cookie!”
Then when they came pounding on my door pleading to use the toilet, I pretended I wasn’t home, and when one of them tried to take a crap in the yard, I called the cops and had him arrested.
Best day of my life.
Suzanne @ 146
RonD @ 149
alleged… won’t believe it until i get an offer for cash. but i got a positive feeling. the agent showing is from the same office as my agent – and has seen in before. the buyer is also interested in another house but who would not want to live in the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods?
Geez. this reloading thing takes some time
Do-Si-Do,
You still have hair
It’s good start!
Eureka Springs @ 148
OK, my naivete will show but the other dems on the list I didn’t recognize.
Wow, surrounded huh? I thought I had it bad today when folks were dumping on our Governator (calif) et al but you know, we have Feinstein, Boxer and Pelosi. Not too shabby.
RonD @ 149
Another Nibble! Right On!!!
TRex!!!!!! 707!!! I think I love you!!
Suzanne-
you do real estate?
that’s right…we should talk.
Trex
Spew Alert!! I haven’t laughed that hard in an age. I’ll have visions of that now every time I hear a GA football score.
TRex you have an evil, twisted mind. No wonder we get along so well :)
do-si-do – sigh. yes, I know, lived in San Francisco for ten years… btw, also lived in Albquerque for quite a while.. It beats the heck out of LA..
demi @ 156
Jeez, I’ll say! Are you powered by Big Wheel?
Worth the wait though. TRex’s Tribulations are a hoot! I’m not trick or treating at his house…no wonder he eats all the snacks.
demi, i do not do real estate. i am selling my house and am going to move to oregon, somewhere between newport and nehalem bay along the coast.
Trex. LOL. I love that. Fortunately I live about a mile and a half from the university (we are a much smaller school and state – in terms of people anyway), so I don’t get the football traffic, but I do know where of you speak.
Eureka Springs, I think I’ll get my reggae CD tomorrow. Can’t wait!
Well, kids, I think I will head to bed. Take care and enjoy the snark. Oh, and don’t take any cookies from the theropod.
hello?
I lost my refresh button.
well…there’s always the other one.
Do-si-do, are you flirting?
Even if not, I could use it tonight.l
Eureka Springs @ 162
Well SF Bay Area at least on the Peninsula is really conservative. Kind Orange County-ish but understatedly so. My folks are paleo-cons. I haven’t come out of the closet yet, politically speaking. As a wise poster hear said just theother night, smile and nod.
Loo Hoo. @ 153
I wouldn’t put too much stock in what anybody voted on this measure. The point was to show strength, which we did. Actually carrying out that threat would have created an akward constitutional crisis that he could easily win by backing off on some of his claim.
The key is that this close vote served notice that we’re withing a hair of raising some real hell, on some really important issues. It was a very important vote.
Loo Hoo- Got mine two days ago (without asking for special expedited shipping)… it so good!
Suzanne @ 161
Absolut !!!
TRex, I don’t know what book you’re writing, but you definitely have to write one with great stories like this … ROFLMAO !!!
Well, Suzanne, change can be a good thing…
What’s in Oregon for ya?
DrDick @ 167
Nite, DD!!!
Pups…
G’night Dr.
I’m heading out myself.
The couch awaits…
TRex, I lived within a mile of the University of FL for 13 years, and your description is right on. The entire town comes to a stop-except for the bars. Tens of thousands of drunk Gator fans roaming the streets. BTW, I’m sure you know, the UF/UG game is known as, “The World’s Largest Cocktail Party”.
demi @ 173
a cheaper cost of living. am retired and on a fixed income. lots of eye candy – the coast is beautiful and parts remind me of here.
TRex @ 152
That’s one of the funniest stories I have ever heard.
Having lived in Lawrence KS, and not just as a student, I know what you mean about the RVers. I didn’t used to pay attention to the football schedule, and sometimes didn’t know it was a game day until I went downtown for breakfast and, in addition to the traffic, saw a sea of red on the sidewalks–middle-aged people from OK or NE crowding the sidewalks. When that happened, I usually just went home and went back to bed. Those were the kind of days when you were likely to encounter a drunken fan going the wrong way on a one-way street.
I will admit, however, that I sometimes got interested in basketball toward NCAA tournament time. As far as I am concerned, those two schools from NC deserve each other.
Good night, DrDick. All the best.
yeah, that money thing.
Why I’m lookin’ too.
Good night sweethear.

I’ve found it reasonably easy to make common cause with paleocons (Pat Buchanan types) and libertarians on matters of civil liberties and foreign policy. We part ways, however, on say healthcare, but even there, the smart ones have a lot of difficulty arguing against the data from other industrialized countries. IMHO, healthcare is the progressives’ battering-ram issue for the 21st century.
Suz, I may have found your 4th of July swimsuit. What do you think?
http://www.swim-shop.com/produ…..a64c96d9a0
You know, I like sports but I never understood the football
. Why do they go to a game and not watch what the hell is going on? It’s sort of this mob thing that scares the bejeebus outta me. I feel the same way about rock concerts. And the GOP.
demi @ 175
G’nite demi !!!
clearing my cache?
If I had any cache, I wouldn’t be looking to move…kidding.
I meant Sweetheart. And thanks.
RonD @ 176
South Bend used to be the same way.
The really sickening thing about Football People is that they don’t understand that any universe exists outside their own. I’ll be walking down the hall to the other part of the building at work and some fat, 65-year-old investment banker with a foam bulldog head under his arm will stop me and ask, “I say, son? What taahm is kick-awff tuh-marruh?”
“I dunno.”
“Whaddya mean yuh don’t know, boy? It’s HOMECOMING, tuh-marrah!”
So…what? I should have all the game schedules memorized? Does my shirt say, “ON-STAR” or “Ask me what you’d ask your wife if she was here?” No. It does not. Feck off.
Night gang.
-GSD
i think you found it, loohoo. the diagonal stripes are slimming too.

Oh God Too sleepy to operate punctuation buttons correctly. I better pull over and find a place to sleep.
doog night. trex, you totally rock!
Good night, Petrocelli,
We’ll talk another time about the Asperger’s.
yeah….
RonD @ 176
When I think of how many people are grievously injured at that event every year, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Not to mention alcohol poisoning, dehydration, venereal diseases, and DUI arrests. Ahhhhhh.
TRex #196,
I think of it as Darwin in Action.
Good Night Trex,
when you take your tail to bed, I hope you have sweet dreams.
Night sleepers.
OT-Here’s a little snapshot of Kennedy’s turn to the Dark Side! O’Connor’s prior role pales in comparison!

Not being born with the ’sports gene’, which makes me the family pariah, it’s incomprehensible to me why my whole family dresses up whenever there’s a Gator game, or a Bucs game, and will pay good money to fly to see a college sporting event. But it’s the dressing up and the flags in the yard that really get me. As if they’re actually athletes or something.
Off to bed as well.. good night you wonderful firedogs..

Ya liked that?! Aloha, Is Ambercrombie here in the Aina? He did not vote on Rahm’s amendment! Mazie Did!!! 8-)
Alicia @ 201
Yes. I kind of want to grab people and shake them and say, “These people you worship, they don’t care about you. They don’t know who you are and they don’t WANT to know. To them, you’re just a walking, baying wallet full of cash! Get a life!”
They don’t get it.
What I can’t get over is the personal stake such fans seem to have in how their team fares.
It’s a barbaric waste of psychic energy.
Alright, gang, that’s it for me. Time for bed.
Good night!
Ok-lemme try this again.
Good night, everyone.
Alicia @ 201
I finally figured it out — it’s tribal. Where else in modern culture are overtly tribalistic rituals permitted? Men are especially restricted in exhibiting tribal behaviors except with sports. Then it’s OK. That’s the draw — belonging to a tribe with rituals to promote continuity.
Hey, the video’s playing now.

In my little town there are high school Warrior Alumni fans that go back to the 50’s. Last year, turns out, the football coach had been taking the Booster Club money and going to Vegas for hookers. Did the Warrior Alums want his head? No. They wanted to keep him on cuz he’d had winning teams.

Freshman year, I got put on the same dorm wing as the football team. At the end of that season, the school dropped football, and the footballers went on a rampage for the rest of the year, e.g., coming in drunk at 3:00 am, puking in the halls, putting turds in other guy’s beds, threatening anyone who turned them in, etc. I developed a prejudice.
Senior year, one of my housemates was an end for the Steelers who was working toward a teaching credential during off-season. He was a stereotypical knuckle-dragging neanderthal, unless you paid some attention to what he was saying. In fact, he turned out to be a very perceptive and intelligent individual, but he’d somewhat unconsciously revert to the knuckle-dragger mode when he was around football fans.
The football players I’ve mentioned were white. But first year of graduate school there was a black football star on campus whose knuckles indeed came several inches below his knees (or appeared to). He was talented but never appeared to be so all that bright. Here’s his web page.

Hey raven.
I gotta at least pretend to wake up. Got coffee?
Good morning, pups. Paul Krugman is alone behind the firewall today, and he’s not amused by Rupert Murdoch.

Coffee and tea are ready, and there are croissants too. Try the pear preserves — they’re delicious.
Mornin’ Raven, EG. Working from home today so I’ll be lurkin’ off and on. Predictions for the GOP Friday News Dump?
And hello Marion, too.

I got a good feeling about today. Something big is gonna happen.
mornin’ all!

Hi egregious, raven, retirin, Marion,
I’m happy you think think something good’s going to happen, today, egregious. Yesterday got to me.
Good news – I got a new commuter bike after being inspired by Phoenix Woman. I even food shop and put the stuff in panniers and a softsided cooler with ice packs. By the time the school year starts up, I hope I can commute to work.
Oh dear twolf, I feel foolish after reading this news.
Boston—
Yay you for the bicycle! Now that is inspiring. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Thanks eg, I think it’s helping me to build up confidence which I hadn’t really understood that I’d lost, reaching my fifties and truly out of shape. Can’t do much about the age, but I can get back into shape!
Morning. I’m hoping that egregious is right and that this is going to be a good day. Twolf posts some pretty distressing news though.
Baby steps Boston, plus think how many of us are reading and going Hmmmm. I used to love to ride my bicycle and it would be great for my fitness program.
You are leading by example.
Brown moves into Downing Street and BAM! terror…
I’m a bit skeptical about the origins of that Benz bomb.
Blank – I hear ya on that. The timing is suspect.
Agreed, BK. There’s a certain Rovian aspect to it, I think. Of course, I’m a cynic……
Boo. Be afraid. Or not.
Good mornin’ folks.

I’m going to be in Beantown for a conference in a couple of weeks. The last time I was there was the sunmmer of ‘70. We are going to be at the Sheraton Back Bay? Any tips for my bride who gets to play for 4 days while I gets edumacated?
morning!
i just started reading an excellent three part series that finished this week by Roger Morris at TomDispatch on the CIA and Robert Gates: one, two, three
Michael Schwartz wrote a good intro:
so far very good. important stuff, and important to know.
Boston1775 @ 280 –
that’s wonderful! you are inspiration.
raven,
First, you can’t miss the North End for great food and a walk to the waterfront at Rose Kennedy Park.
I need to check if Filenes Basement is still opened or if it will be closed by the time you get there. That’s a trip!
Take the train to Charles Street, walk the shops at the bottom of Beacon Hill, eat, at the end of Charles Street, find the Boston Public Garden and take a swanboat ride.
Although I have never taken a ducktour myself, I know many people who highly recommend a trip around town which finishes by going down a ramp and into the Charles River. (I think the Patriots did this after Super Bowl win.)
Quincy Market is near the North End – very old buildings including Faneuil Hall – now a marketplace.
Boston Public Library – a treasure.
Museum of Fine Arts. Again, a place to walk, soak it all in, have lunch. I’ve spent many an afternoon there.
Use the MBTA – get a copy of the map and find directions to each of these. Boston is truly accessible without a car.
selise @ 295
Thanks selise, I’m tryin’
Good morning!
Everybody asleep? Come on! It’s MORNING!
Boston1775 @ 296
Thanks so much! Hopefully Filene’s will be closed! :)
One other thing, raven,
The Boston Harbor Islands are simply wonderful – Mr. 1775 and I sailed for years there. There are ferries, I think at Long Wharf, that are inexpensive and take you from island to island. I’ve spent time on most of them and the views are spectacular. Spectacle Island is now open (we visited while is was being fixed up for the public). Don’t miss the trip. (Google will give you everything you need.) The history that took place on these islands is astonishing.
My brother is one of the National Guard troops they mention. He is coordinating vehicles for North Texas.
Oh Cassie, is he safe? How’s your cousin doing?
Boston1775 @ 303
My cousin is in Hays County which has not had bad flooding. He has not called us so I think he is probably fine.
My brother is safe. He is sending the trucks places, not going there himself. He is mostly a mechanic when there is not an emergency.
I’ll be thinking of all of you, today. Hang in there, Honey.
She is really rocking..Thanks for the video. My favorites of her is Flipside,Listerine and Sno Cat..
Am I the only one who loves the fact that Kristin Hersh is making such ballsy, full-on music as a 41 year old mother of four?
Michael @307 – Check me out @ 268.
Still no love. Did no one HEAR that f&$**@% song? What’s the matter with you people?
VictorLaszlo @ 308
Dude! The video wasn’t working last night until midnight PST.
I came back … it kicks butt!
My kids give me a hard time for fully rocking out in the car when I drive them to school. I’m going to show them Kristen. Yeah! flickin’ my bic!
also love the b/w production. very cool.
Michael, somewhere in Boston @ 307
Throwing Muses Rule(ed) …Kristin Hersh continues to rule.
She started as a wee teenager, has continued since the mid-eighties (when many of us were younger, if I remember). I’m particularly fond of The Fat Skiier, myself. And David Narcizo kicks butt.
The Muses should have gotten as much credit as the Pixies, imho, as Boston 80’s bands go. It’s hard to listen to a band that came after, like Sleater-Kinney for instance, and not hear Kristen’s pathbreaking influence.
