curmudgeon at 78 — The Dodd bill, which is wonderful, is a comprehensive reform package — but it has to go through the Armed Services Committee (which is a much, much tougher voting road) because it, among other things, repeals the MCA. The Habeas Restoration — which is S. 185 only addresses habeas and, as I understand it, the votes are mostly lined up for the Judiciary Committee and closing in on the Senate as a whole. Think of it as a first step…which is how the leadership folks are thinking of it, as I understand it.

Yes, what about S-576?

When I called Bob Menendez’ office to urge the Senator to sign on as a co-sponsor of S-185, his staffer referred me to Sen. Dodd’s S-576, of which Sen. Menendez IS a co-sponsor.

Somebody needs to make sure all the wood is behind the same arrow…

Due primarily to discussions and promotions by blogs — a campaign catalyzed by Jane Hamsher – A Tragic Legacy became the #1 Best-Seller on Amazon’s Non-Fiction list last night, and currently sits at #2.

Exactly the same thing happened with my first book, How Would a Patriot Act? — it was ignored almost completely by establishment media outlets (not a single review, television interview, etc.), but nonetheless was pushed to the top of Amazon and the NYT Best Seller-List exclusively as a result of blogs. And other books pushed almost entirely by blogs have achieved similar success.

One can debate the true influence of blogs and whether they will continue to grow in size and influence. But what seems beyond reasonable dispute is the fact that nothing can match bloggers and their readers in terms of political interest, intensity and energy. And, most importantly, the ability of blogs to be self-sustaining is growing rapidly.

With a vote looming in Congress on Thursday to defund the Office of the Vice President in the White House’s annual appropriation, a report at The Politico claims that the White House will no longer advance the argument that the Vice President’s office is not a part of the executive branch.

However they are standing by their claims that pigs can fly, Iraq is a success, Bush knows what he is doing, and we need to go back to the moon to eliminate our dependence on foreigers for cheese.

VERY funny. You forgot to say, however, that Bush REALLY does look like that in a flight suit.
