Hiya TRex!
Can’t be a Zed?
omg, new Amy!
Oh, boo. A two.
Hey TRex. Good to see you.
Ultimate beehive!
Great video. How that huge voice comes out of that tiny person, I’ll never know.
New Amy – woohoo
Loo Hoo. @ 6
She rocks that beehive, no?
LoudounLib @ 9
Absolutely.
NH Republic Johnny Boy Sununu is looking at a long, uphill re-election.
Sen. John Sununu, New Hampshire Republican, appears to be in trouble, with only 31 percent in the poll saying he deserves re-election and 47 percent saying someone else should get his seat.

Good to be home. Especially good to be home tonight.
Man, I don’t know what was wrong with me today. Just hateful, bristling with annoyance all day. EVERYTHING pissed me off today.
And my hair looked like greasy string and I’ve got a massive, very painful pimple way up under the skin of my right cheek, and I’m tired and I’m achy, and if I wasn’t so goddamn glad to be home, I’d just sit right down in the middle of the floor and cry.
My friend Alicia says I’m menstrual.
I was talking up Amy with a friend of mine the other day, but sadly my friend wasn’t buying it. She said she’d rather listen to Dido.
Awww TRex, want some chocolate? I’ve got some Ritter Sport dark chocolate with hazelnuts here…
TRex @ 12
Then you need chocolate, dear, lots of chocolate.
TRex @ 12
Read this. It will make you feel better. A big bowl of Uncle Marty (Lederman)’s chicken soup.
TRex @ 12
You need sleep, TRex. You’re trying to do everything for everybody (I feel guilty here) and you just need rest. You’ll feel better mentally and physically.
Stay home for a while as much as you can.
A little snack for TRex.
I’m kind of looking forward to when she gets sick of it and cuts it off. It must be a bitch to keep up with. Can you imagine waking up late for something with that to contend with every day? Oof.
Not that Amy cares. Hell, they’ve already asked her to do the new Bond theme. She got the thumbs-up from Dame Shirley Bassey, who said:
And what better endorsement could you get than from the woman who sang, “Goldfinger”?
LoudounLib @ 14
Give…me…
*hugs TRex*
(uploads Ritter Sport dark chocolate with hazelnuts through the toobz for TRex)
TRex, you will also need to eat something salty, like chips and will need a hot water bottle.
TRex,
That’s the look that all the tough chicks in junior high wore, right down to the eye makeup!
OK, maybe their beehives were a tiny bit smaller.
Oh yes, what Suz said! ;-)
I’d rather gargle with Drano!
Dido?!
How insipid can you get?!
Bruce Fein says:
Dick Cheney must be stopped.
Cheney is now being talked about like a horror movie villain.

TRex @ 26
I know, right? I just had to sigh at that one.
TRex,
TRex, ygm
Boohoo, no notification of a new post!!! The eternal circular wheel clued me in, late!!!
Her voice is great, but i can’t get past the music that’s used. It’s too far off. To my ear it doesn’t suit her as well as it could.
Maybe it’s just that song though. I’ll dig up some other stuff and see what i think of it. Because i DO like her voice. Shirley Bassey is right to endorse her. That kinda growl is very rare.

LoudounLib @ 7
Well, she wasn’t always that tiny. Her new size is rather alarming.
CT, there was notification. I saw it.
Have you seen “once” ?
puppethead @ 37
Holy crap — now I worry about her!
Where was that video filmed? Some very interesting people in interesting costumes.
Suzanne @ 38
My humble apologies, LL, it was sandwiched in there! Time to get new spec’s!!! (Literally!!!) *g*
I’ve been trying to figure out why Amy doesn’t do it for me.
I think I’ve finally got it.
I’m old enough to remember Dusty Springfield.
I think I’m going to have to order myself some Bittersweet Tiles from Poco Dolce.
burns, Dusty was in a league of her own for sure.
TRex, does that mean online shopping? You gotta watch out for Jane… I’m just saying
What?! I love the music! It’s so retro.
Wait, how old are you?
Suzanne @ 46
Method to madness, maybe? Taser would definitely take your mind off pimples and greasy hair. :)
montag @ 33
I just did a read of the Fein piece. I think it was canned and waiting for the OK to let drop. It read just a little too “pat” for my taste. And it also doesn’t give us anything new except that the Vice President is…Dick. This is not news.
To me at least, this is part of the orchestrated series of eruptions in the media designed to deal with any problems from Cheney or his allies. JM2C, YMMV, TTALE, etc etc
TRex, shopping while hormonal can cause significant damage to the credit cards.
I’m 47, and I think Amy rawks ;-)
Suzanne @ 50
And if it’s not too nosy, whatever happened on the phone deal?
LoudounLib @ 45
But Dusty was a totally different flavor of singer. Her voice is sweet and soft like…feathers, or white chocolate souffle or something. Any is more like Dinah Washington or Shirley Bassey. Foggy, gritty. Dirty-sounding.
Dusty was like the queen of mentholated. She never got that not-so-fresh feeling.
Her (vocal) spiritual heir is Sarah McLachlan.
LoudounLib @ 51
I’m still at Days Of Wine And Roses, myself…
TRex, another snack for you.
Suzanne @ 50
You wouldn’t happen to know that from painful, personal experience, would ya Ma’am??? ;-)

I’m 29 :P Grew up about an hour north of motown too, so i’ve had a huge exposure to that form of music too. So i knew the sample used in that, but it still seemed off. It’s hard to describe and harder still to figure out how i’d like it better. It’s not her, so much as her accompaniment :P

On the principle that ridicule is sometimes more effective than rage, I have another Cheney metaphor for you:
Dick Cheney is Elmer Fudd!
First, there’s the baldness.
Second, they’re both armed and dangerous.
Third, they’re both angry and vengeful, spewing invective against their opponents, and frequently propose violent solutions to their perceived problems, including attacking the home territory of opponents.
Fourth, they may win some battles here and there, but they never win the war.
Fifth, they are both somewhat myopic, meaning that their view of reality is distorted.

Fudd-egg-about-it.
Aloha, Bob! I wanted to show you this e-mail from Mazie:
Dear Mr. Tuttle,
Thank you for contacting me to share your views on the war in Iraq.
Members of Congress have been deeply divided over resolution of this war, but an increasing number on both sides of the aisle are pushing for a change in course. From the very beginning of the 110th Congress (2007-2008), I have strongly advocated an end to President Bush’s failed war and have called for a time frame to redeploy our troops safely from Iraq. I have not wavered from this position.
On April 25, 2007, I voted for H.R. 1591, which required the President to certify that Iraq meet various benchmarks and adopted a goal of completing troop redeployment by March 2008. The President vetoed this bill. I voted to override his veto, but the House was unable to pass the bill.
On May 10, 2007, I voted for H.R. 2237, the McGovern bill which sought to redeploy troops in 90 days. While support for this bill surpassed expectations, it failed to pass (171 yeas to 255 nays).
Two weeks later, I voted against a measure in H.R. 2206 that provides for continued war funding because it did not contain a withdrawal timetable, troop readiness standards, or definite consequences for failure by the Iraqi government to meet its commitments. H.R. 2206 passed the House and Senate and was signed into law.
The fight to bring an end to this war is far from over. The House is planning to vote on multiple measures this summer to change the mission in Iraq, hold the Iraqi government and President Bush accountable, and redeploy our troops.
I have already signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 1460, a bill that not only de-authorizes the war but pushes for increased diplomacy and a concrete plan for troop redeployment. You can be sure that I will keep fighting to end this failed Iraq war and begin the redeployment of our troops as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Mazie K. Hirono
Time for me to get some sleep as well. See you fine people tomorrow.
TRex @ 53
That’s why I love Emmylou Harris’s singing so much. She can put some grit in her voice when she needs it, or sing like a songbird.
Bob in HI
CT, I’ll see your letter and raise ya with mine:
Dear Suzanne,
I want to provide you with an update on my work on the issue of
discrimination based on sexual orientation.
I’m proud to cosponsor H.R. 1246, the Military Readiness
Enhancement Act, which repeals the Department of Defense’s
“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, and prohibits the Secretaries of
Defense and Homeland Security from discriminating on the basis
of sexual orientation against any member of the Armed Forces or
any person seeking to become a member. It also authorizes the re-
enlistment of service members who have been discharged due to
their sexual orientation.
In my view this policy has been a failure since its inception. It has
caused the discharge of thousands of servicemen and women, and
done nothing to address the anti-gay harassment many soldiers
endure on a daily basis. In carrying out their duties in Iraq and
Afghanistan, American troops have been serving side-by-side with
openly gay members of allied forces, including soldiers from the
United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Thirteen coalition partners
in Operation Enduring Freedom allow lesbians, gays and bisexuals
to serve openly, as do eleven coalition members fighting in
Operation Iraqi Freedom in Afghanistan. Service members have
also been working side-by-side in the war on terrorism with
American CIA, NSA, and FBI officers and agents – all of whom
can be openly gay, and are also protected from discrimination on
the basis of their sexual orientation.
H.R. 1246 has been referred to the House Armed Services
Committee and I will do everything I can to see that it passes the
House. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is bad policy for our nation and
our Armed Forces and I’m fully committed to seeing it overturned.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, let me hear
from you.

Member of Congress

He was the worlds nicest person. The Drano (lye_) burned everything from the inside of his mouth to the upper part of his stomach. After several surgeries to repair his stomach and esophagus, he was left with a straw sized opening from his lips to the back of his mouth. He ate through a straw for about six months; finally he had the inside of his mouth and lips repaired, could eat normally and was sent home after being in the hospital for a year. One day after being sent home,….he drank lye again. I don’t know what happened after that.

I don’t remember the psycho/social history..but my take was that he was probably lonely and like the hospital environment and the attention that he got.
Remember how the hit job articles stressed Cheney’s kill the environment stance:
MSNBC says Key Republican Has Defected In Senate To Seal Deal To Cap CO2 Emissions.
Now, will chimpy sign it?
And as a footnote, a news anchor on MSNBC today burned, on the air, with her lighter, a script requiring her to open her show with something about Paris Hilton. She then ran with her lede, some kind of useless news about stocks, bonds, the economy, in other words non-Paris kerfluffle! No word on when she’ll be sent to Gitmo…

No lineups for this boy; I’m going to see Alison Krauss on Friday night. I’ll go to the Apple store at South Coast Plaza on Saturday while Man-Cub is at his dance class. I’m betting that I will pass for now; it’s going to be missing a lot of business-oriented features that I consider key, and I really like my current phone (T-Mobile Dash). When I can get my company Outlook email on it, and edit Word and Excel files on it, then it’s viable.
Now what about lowering interest rates?
Even though housing is in a recession now…?
Duh… If they know what’s coming — they’ll pull a suprise 25 basis point drop. Of course that would really light the fire under the over the counter stock market.
Alternatively, they could let China dose the money supply by borrowing back some of their trillion or so greenbacks. (Wouldn’t that make them redbacks?) (I would call them that because we’ll be seeing Red when our EastAsian debt masters call in their markers.)
Or, they can just buy the US lock, stock and barrel…
It has already started … Today’s tech action confirms it for me.
Anybody see Frank Moore for prez 08?

Tomorrow’s market action report today — so you’ll know before it happens…
I’m expecting a gap down on opening…2590 or so, followed by a rally, but not all the way back until…
The interest rate announcement unleashes volatility that see-saws the action. If the opening low holds then it is smooth sailing with a higher close. The alternative of a lower close seems less likely in my opinion but a consolidation after today’s big run-up is quite possible.
In case you were wondering, this is going to be a huge rally. I see about a 10% kick in the broad technology market over the next three weeks. But that’s just me… So far…
Suzanne @ 143
We put the new float in the water today. Ms ET and I were joined by our kids and three of their friends to turn it over, put it on my modified boat trailer, walk it a couple of blocks to a friend’s beach, pick it up again, walk it into the lake, pick up the debris of the one it is replacing, and clean up our mess. Then the kids took it out on the lake on a warm – 75F – evening, to dive off, swim and stuff. Cool.
sounds perfectly lovely et. warm summer evenings spent swimming in the lake.

Tonight I watched the Smithsonian tribute to Paul Simon. It blew me away. His music has always reached out and grabbed me in ways I couldn’t explain, and in fact embarrassed me. Tonight, I realized that he has contributed to almost every genere of music that I appreciate: latin, country, african, regae, zydeco, spiritual.

And despite my Geek Spook Squad badge, I can’t yet figure out how to reply to comments in my own dayam blog, I’ll answer your question in re four missing genders here.
The reason I postulate only four is simple, I’m basing it on the possible permutations of our known genders. The exact details are too much even for here, but I’ll try to get a post up on it in a week or two. It’s old news, been speculated on in various medical venues for over a century. But until we figure out the missing X we won’t really know.

wigwam @ 151
my son has a pretty hard blues Simon did back in the early 80s. he’s asleep and it’s on his iPod, but it strikes me as authentic. I thought somebody else was doing the song when I first heard it. Simon also hasn’t dabbled in classical like Paul McCartney has done successfully, and Billy Joel has failed at totally. I heard an NPR tribute today on and off, while I was in and out of the shop. it didn’t bring me to tears, but brought back memories.
Paul Simon was a key player in the heightening of awareness in the USA about the pernicious evil of the last white South African regime. I wish he could find a way to be so eloquent about the similar situation in the Bantustans of the West Bank.

There’s always music, always will be particular with those under incredible hardship. The problem is getting it to the outside world. And that region is treated? It’d be a rare thing to happen. *sighs* Meanwhile i’ve such a burning curiosity just to hear music from that whole region in general. Mostly because it’s not explored over here much less the atonal qualities that run through the middle east and far east.

Something is out of kilter, badly out of kilter, but I can’t tell what. So if my posts help somebody, somewhere, to figure it out in time to do whatever is needed to prevent the worrisome future my “hairs” are responding too, good. If not, well I’ve enjoyed it and others apparently have too. And that’s a lot better than average, these days.

But it is, in fact, scientifically valid. Without any solid experimental data to base my assertion on, I must defend my cardinality with other means.

hey alias! done the GITS SSS yet?
montag @ 161
You’re so, so right on this. I’ve worked with two Palestinian groups and observed several more. A rich, multicultural musical tradition – yes, multicultural in many pre-1947 villages, towns and urban quarters – has been decimated as fully as most Native American cultures were here 100 years ago.
Here’s an understatement…
It’s only money…
Quick… Rotate!
aliasofwestgate @ 170
There’s not much getting out. Life there is not conducive to recording, and even opportunities to teach kids music are diminished. (One example was the community arts center in Bil’in. It was in the middle of a cordoned-off zone, and not long after the Palestinians got the money to fix it up, the IDF seized it as a command post. Things like that go on all the time.)
Remember, this is not a temporary thing–it’s now been going on for forty years. There’s music around, particularly recorded in Egypt, but not a lot of the homegrown variety, from what I can find. If one spends most of one’s time trying to cross checkpoints and find food, there’s not much left for making music with others.

Probably Brixton or maybe Camden Town (not sure). My guess is somewhere in London ….

What instills hope in me, is that, the sheer number of disgruntled Federal Bureaucracy types will leak like sieves, and produce KKKarl’s missing RNC e-mails!!! *g*
signing off, with a tip of the hat to new bloggers AK and ET.
boy those short naps are great!
Until your cat decides your dangling fingers are a new cat toy! Yeeeouch! Now the cat is on top of the china cabinet hissing at me and refusing to be picked up. Not to mention all the foul names in cattish it is calling me with its tail. I don’t know where she picks up that kind of language, we don’t let her out. Personally I think she uses my granddaughter’s cell minutes, since Tamara INSISTS she didn’t….hah! Got her! She’s down and streaking for the master bedroom, no doubt to report evil grandpa to the Momma.
Bottom line, I better go to bed while I can. See everyone tomorrow. Tomorrows Blog article is called Wacht Am Potomac (Watch on the Potomac…stolen from the novel about WWII)

It was months and months ago when Sid Blumenthal was here, and I asked him if the whistleblowers were ready for the Dem oversight onslaught to come, and he said, approximately, “they’re everywhere.”
I don’t think we’re going to see defectors from the WH, at least in noticeable numbers. Too much kool-aid in the water coolers there.
But, I think the big bunch waiting in the wings is going to be civilians in the bureaucracy at the Pentagon, talking about political influence in contracting violations, etc.
Then it starts to get interesting.

Now they’re showing Paul’s tribute to Joltin Joe in Yankee Stadium!!!
Alas, the Lake grows still, with that I shall bid a fond adieu!!! Aloha Oe!!!
That’s what i’d figured. The thing is the music will likely persist as a purely cultural thing. Lullabies from mothers, traditional songs having to do with rites of passage and the like. Little things, a simple song for the few joys they know. Those won’t be recorded–but they’ll still be there. I’d love to see what would happen with a real arts program that could get hte recordings out, but it likely won’t happen any time in the 20 years at the rate we’re going. That’s if they manage to make it another 20 years.
It’s still a crime that its’ happening, and i blame both sides for being too obstinate to bother trying to make even a bit of peace. That slow eradication has been going on longer than i’ve been alive. An incredible thought there.
Hey. Anyone still awake?
Mornin’ all!

Aw, I’m not mad at him. I try to send some geedunk as often as possible and hope for the best. Seeings that I joined on my 17th and then, after my tour in Korea, me and three buddies at Ft Lewis paid a guy in post replacement to get us into an outfit going to the Nam it would be pretty silly to be mad.
From WaPo…
Proof that privatization of Government is a big bad idea. Hey, isn’t the foundation of Republican thought? Turns out they were as wrong as the Communist Russia where they basically had the same problem – no competition, which breeds fraud, complacency, mismanagment, etc. Stupid Republicans.
A New Hampshire presidential poll by WHDH-TV and Suffolk University shows that local Democrats prefer Al Gore to any of the current contenders.

Yes, when are the move3rs and shakers in the Democratic Party gunna turn on the lights and open their eyes…Al Gore is not only the most popular accross the board with the base but is the only candidate (includin’ my guy Edwards) who could herd the cats and prima donnas in Congress and deny the oligarchy free reign.
KEEP THE FAITH AND DO THE WORK…GOD IS WATCHIN’!!

Mornin’ Joe “talkin’ sausage-making” with Ron Paul. Recounts when he voted against something Jerry Lewis wanted and he was ever after tagged.
In Congress, you’re either an insider or an independent. They won’t forget.

Now Mornin’ Joe repeating the Time story about Mitt “Vacation” Romney’s dog story.

Going to Scummy Shrummy and Acid Annie next. Whazza matter, Annie, can’t handle the grownups? Turning channel now. Sorry, can’t liveblog, must wrestle remote from Mr. Sunshine’s fingers….
‘Morning, FirePups. Everybody perking along nicely, I see.
twolf1, thanks for the WaPo articles; is it just me, or does Broder’s article seem as if it were written by a more lucid ghostwriter?
No surprises on the USA testimony story; we knew that there was a problem with the death penalty. Bush was the driving force behind the policy of increase its use.
Hey, Rayne,
Bush is channeling his inner Saddam….
Disgusting, yes, Prairie Sunshine?
Party of Life, my arse.
It’s suspected that the death penalty might have been used as a wedge in my home state of Michigan as well, leading to the possible ouster of U.S. Attorney Margaret Chiara. No firm trail of information since Chiara has been extremely closed mouthed, and Congress hasn’t forced her to talk. The problem in MI is that the death penalty is not part of the state’s culture; it’s been outlawed for over a hundred years here. If it is discovered that Gonzo was pushing it here, it will do considerable damage to Bush’s basement JAR within the remaining fundie base in this state.
Somehow it’s fitting that Jane’s FireDogLake has been hot on trail of these natural born killers. I just hope the outcome is better…
New thread, by the way.

I noticed the linked article is about a year old. She certainly doesn’t look that thin in the video, thank goodness.
Yep, totally ripped off from Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell, and the Motown funk brothers. See:
