It’s great that folks like Katrina Swett are realizing the political reality that hanging out with Joe Lieberman is a wonderful way to coat your campaign with cooties, but donating to Tom Allen doesn’t make it all better.
Atrios digs up this gem:
“Round two in Connecticut is going to be a battle between two Democrats: Joe Lieberman, a centrist Democrat, and Ned Lamont, a pretty-far-left-of-center Democrat,” said Swett. “I’m convinced that Joe Lieberman is the better leader . . . and I’m also convinced that he’s the better positioned politically for the future of the party that I love.”
As a result, Swett said, she thinks many prominent Democrats in Washington – despite their post-primary support for Lamont – would “quietly and secretly” breathe a sigh of relief if Lieberman bounced back.
Joe Lieberman won because the Republicans backed him. His message appealed to Republicans and he continues to be useful to Republicans. I realize that many think that the best way for Democrats to succeed is to become Republicans but I just don’t count myself among them.

No Mo Joe!
JANE!
“I realize that many think that the best way for Democrats to succeed is to become Republicans but I just don’t count myself among them.”
;0)
Thank goodness I am a Democrat,I don’t have to associate with that independent loser Lieberman.
Yeah. And you stink, Joe.
I want to push Lieberman out.
I want my party to embarrass Lieberman and render him irrelevant. Strip him!
Why do people (especially “journalists”) keep calling Lieberman a Democrat? He left the party when he decided to run for himself as an “Independent.”
I noticed Lieberman (CT4L) joined many Republicans and most Dems in voting for debate on the current immigration bill today..
The bill must be a disaster.
Post-primary support for Lieberman by Democrats will always be a factor in my opinion of the party leaders no matter what they do. Are you listening Harry? Barbara?
They need to apologize to us and take away his power to make it better.
Sixty Dem. Senators would fix Joe nicely.
Joe is a traitor to the Dems and certainly he has betrayed the USA.
Biodun @ 8
The Democratic leadership is still allowing him to caucus with my party, and he still has responsibilities within my party. I find this situation extremely irritating. Lieberman is nothing but a cheap blackmailer.
JANE! Hope you are doing well this day.
Way back when, I had thoughts that Katrina Swett and her husband both understood what being a Democrat meant. Now, not so much. Just another LIEberclone/LIEbercon.
Katrina Swett- that is possibly the most ignorant thought process I’ve run across this week, not counting the executive branch that doesn’t seem to exist anymore.
So, why don’t you and Joe and Susan Collins drop dead, for starters.
Gargh.
Yes, neuter the jerk ASAP. Ried really needs to slap the little git down, and hard. He’s dragging everyone else down with him, and he knows it.
I don’t have to call both my senators about Habeus Corpus as they’re part of the 22 sponsers. But i might email and call for encouragement to tell them to keep THIS kinda stuff up. Stabenow’s been quiet and Levin’s been iffy lately. So the bits of encouragement might do some good. I hope.
More Bandar news on previous post comments for anyone watching this…this time he’s throwing people under the bus…
Take Lieberman’s reserved parking space away and assign him a new, perhaps less spacious office, for starters.
I find Lieberman even more distasteful than Rove.
Cut Lieberman’s office budget.
WaPo chat:
Oklahoma kiddo @ 19
Lieberman is distasteful — Rove is pure one-drop-will-kill-you venom.
Speaking of party switchers, one of our Republican state senators (in northern IL) just became a Democrat. Another Repub sen. is supporting Obama in an Obama ad (although actually he is for McCain). The Illinois Republican leadership is pretending like it doesn’t care….
Does anyone know if David Shuster is still filling in for Tucker Carlson? The Doughy Pantload has a post up on the Corner that he’s going to be on the show later today. Could be awesome.
-ck- @ 22
Between these two, Rove wins. He doesn’t pretend to be a Democrat.
Make Lieberman’s email, other mail, and memos originating from his Senate office subject to approval.
Well, the Senate records are wrong. That’s just one of the problems of this 110th Congress:
My bold.
Lieberman is toxic. Any progressive whose opponent is endorsed by Holy Joe will benefit. Yesterday I talked about how Lieberman could help Donna Edwards and Vic Wulsin… or is he only endorsing Republicans these days?
Michigan’s still in the middle of knock down drag out over the budget and some much needed taxation of the high earners. Because michigan’s in the tank and the Repuglicans seem to want to make it even worse.
No party turncoats, as it seems that the repug majority leader has all his boys and girls in lockstep. A really nasty parallel of the federal level that. With Granholm using everything she can in order to get something done, including threatening(and making sure the workers know about, and are prepared for)a full out summer govt shutdown from lack of money.
Sparkles @ 21
Someone was feeling snarky today! LOL!
Rex Babin cartoon on the 4th Branch of Government
And when Lieberman rides around town on official business, make him ride in a Pinto.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 32
In a Pinto or ON a Pinto? Frankly, I would feel for the poor horse. Or are you referring to the bean?
AZ Matt @ 31

Let’s compromise and say Rambler Gremlin. ;0)

a Pinto, pulling “The Kiss”…..
I left a message for Senator Pryor on Habeas today.. Senator I demand you reverse your vote last fall on restricting habeas and bring us back to this side of the 12th century… you know, post Magna Carta and all that…
said that to the clerk, I did.
fahrender @ 38
That’s a vision NSFW. Cleanup on my monitor, pleez…. *g*
Habeas corpus matters. Big time.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 35
Good point! It’s totally pathetic. Reid and Schumer should be forced to run the gauntlet for this. Once Swett is driven out of the New Hampshire race, I bet Lieberman will endorse Sununu. Let’s hope so.
Breaking Lieberliar news. The July 9 Newsweek reports a change in Lieberman’s plan for a war with Iran.
Instead of a sneak attack against Iran,
If you believe that, I have a Bridge To NoWhere to sell you.
howieklein @ 42
that would be a nice twist
Sorry, Jane, this is completely off topic but pertinent to where we find ourselves today in this country.
The CIA finally delivered a 702 page report to the National Security Archives today after more than 25 years of resisting a FOIA request.
The report can be read at the archive’s website here:
National Security Archives
Part One lists various activities or people that the agency rep thought violated the 1947 law which created the CIA. Glaring in its presence is the total redaction of the first person/event on the list right above Johnny Roselli, a known participant in the activites surrounding CIA attempts on the life of Castro and a possible participant in the JFK assassination, He was murdered shortly after he gave testimony to the House Select Sub-committee on Assassinations in 1976.
wikipedia
The entry that is missing is most likely that which would refer to Lee Harvey Oswald. The time frame covered by the request response is 1959 until 1973; 1959 is ostensibly the time Oswald started working for US intelligence in the Office of Naval Intelligence. It’s the year he was discharged from the USMC and when he left for the Soviet Union where he allegedly renounced his US citizenship.
I’ve downloaded and printed out the report for later reading and analysis. I think the CIA released this stuff at this time in order to provide a much needed diversion from the nonsense surrounding Cheney’s ridiculous assertion of extra-constitutional status and the on-going Abu Gonzo fiasco.
howieklein @ 42
providing aid and comfort to the enemy: the Lieberman succor punch. sounds like political treason.
Haven’t looked at the links but Swett is the daughter of Tom Lantos.
punaise @ 46
With all the damage that’s been done to our country by Lieberman and his confederates in the GOP, it’s like actual treason.
punaise @ 46
tough love, eh?
Howie,
I can smell the Abramoff investigation getting closer to Don Young with the news you covered today re Dolittle. Just a hunch, but a strong one.
I live in NH. If Mrs. swett gets the nomination, I will vote for her. But I will do so knowing that she is a nitwit, and has been one ever since she “burst” onto the scene as a stupid-hat wearing wife of short-timer Rep. Dick Swett, who got elected only because his opponent, GOP one-termer Chuck Douglas, pissed off the wife of GHWBush aide and fomer Governor John Sununu (the elder Sununu), such that Mrs. Sununu essentially told NH voters not to re-elect Douglas. I’d like to think Dems can do better than Katrina.
Hugh @ 47
my God! he looks like Lieberman’s less evil twin!!!!!
I’m so glad to find out about Swett’s loyalties. We have been major donors for her in the past. I suddenly can’t seem to find my checkbook. Tsk.
I got inspired by Alfred’s incredibly interesting blog, so I’ve taken the plunge. Jane’s facebook project was a lot of inspiration too. Hope I don’t regret this….
Joe and his pet Harry
AZ Matt @ 31
AZ Matt, that’s a great cartoon, but I think it would be more accurate if the cartoonist had drawn boots instead of arrows.
PS: I made my three phone calls re habius corpus. As usual, Norm Coleman has taken no stand yet. If his vote doesn’t matter, he’ll do the right thing. If it’s too close, he’ll be a bushboy.

To bad the Alito cloture vote can be un-done..I had really hoped that Clark would challenge him..oh well..Pryor is worse than Lieberman

Katrina Swett has more baggage than just her worship of Lyingman, she is also the daughter of Tom Lantos a hawks hawk and Israel ass kisser and, of course, she is now a mormon…she has more strikes against her than one can count.
The DLC is promoting another candidate to run against sununu, in Jeanne Shaheen. She is securely in the pocket of the DLC and last time round lost o lot of the vote in NH because she vetoed an income tax bill that would have reduced everybody’s property tax. She is also pro state authorized killing.
There is one candidate though that will be able to defeat sununu and does not have DLC baggage and that is Physician, Astronaut Jay Buckey. He is against the stupid war, does not think that reliance of oil is such a good idea and thinks that we (the US) should be taking the lead in alternative energy resourcing. He is baggage free and a “new” face in politics. NH is looking forward to a Dem. primary of progressive vs DLC…. should be lots of fun

I think there are people here who don’t know of the Pinto, one of Detroit’s exploding vehicles made by the Ford Motor Company. I think the first one came out in 1972?

The Pinto, along with the Yugo, AMC Gremlin, Chevrolet Vega, Chevrolet Chevette and AMC Pacer, suffers the reputation of being an American symbol for a “cheap economy car” or “cheapness”. But in particular, its peculiar vulnerability to rear end collisions and fire has given it a special place in popular culture.
In the movie Cujo, the mother and son took up protection in a Ford Pinto to escape the dog.
The car is referenced by name in the song Pretty Fly For A White Guy by The Offspring. It is also referenced in Everclear’s song “AM Radio”.
During a chase scene in the film Top Secret!, a vehicle being driven by East German guards is forced to brake sharply upon seeing a Ford Pinto stopped in the road ahead of it. It just barely touches the rear of the car causing it to slowly roll forward a few feet and explode violently in reference to the safety problems which plagued the Pinto.
Dr. Gonzo and Raoul Duke drive a Pinto in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
In the movie Speed, Sandra Bullock’s character, when asked if she could handle driving a bus rigged with explosives, says, “Oh sure, it’s just like driving a really big Pinto.”
In the pen and paper Roleplaying Game Unknown Armies the example given of a Merchant Avatar’s ability to make someone beleive there is worth where none exists is “C’mon man, it’s a Pinto! That name just screams manliness!”
On a Season 9 episode of Mad TV, a mock up 1970s episode of The Price Is Right gives away a brown Pinto as a prize which blows up after the winning contestant starts it.

We have a budget ‘crisis’ here in IL too. We have a dem gov, but he has the fiscal restraint of Marion Jones…which, for those of you who don’t get it…that means absolutely none. I don’t blame him totally, though. He’s just trying to get his after a 20 year run of exclusive republican cronyism and corporate patronage. Hmmm, sound familiar?

Yea, we had a “budget crisis” in Georgia a couple of months back. It turned out that the Dept of Revenue didn’t deposit Income Tax checks thereby manufacturing a shotfall and causing budget cuts. Now the state is “flush with cash”!
Raven @ 71, don’t forget the Hornet! I had the pleasure *ahem* of driving a 1970’s vintage AMC Hornet ’sportwagon’ for a few years. It was well on the way to rusting out.
raven @ 71

Lieberman in a K (Street) Car
So Abu Gonzales is coming to town to do this:
BOISE — U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales will be in Boise today to meet with the Treasure Valley Metro Anti-Gang Task Force.
Gonzales is expected to hold a press conference after the meeting Tuesday afternoon.
He will also meet privately with staffers at the local U.S. Attorney’s Office, federal judges and heads of federal agencies while in Boise.
Not hard since the Federal Building is just down the street from the Community Center, literally. I’ve been watching a cop with a dog run around the parking lots surrounding our hospital, the community center, and some federal office way down at the end of the street. There’s also that skater park right smack dab in the midst of it all.

It’s o.k. Just don’t mention Monty Python…oh sh*t!
Steve @ 70
The thought of these people wanting to kill a terminally ill person before nature – or God – takes over is beyond bizarre. I remember reading somewhere that in the opening day of Battle of the Somme, July 1, 1916, there were at times thousands of already fatally wounded soldiers killing other soldiers before expiring. One British soldier, grievously wounded, but alive, made it back to the lines after fighting all day. He had left his unit – they were all dead – so was hastily tried for cowardice and shot before he could die naturally of his wounds.
Ford Prefect @ 80
What’s your point? I think I’m lost…
james @ 65
back when i was a wee lad (if only ….)
Just for those very few amongst us not so familiar with the German language:
Lieberman means Dear Man. Well,…
raven @ 81
then there was the Hudson Hornet. i saw one of them in a car repair shop lot in McMinnville, Oregon last year …….
With Nixon to the bitter end was the preposterous Rabbi Baruch Korff (”Nixon’s Rabbi’). Lieberman is Bush’s Rabbi Korff, similarly deluded and preposterous.
raven, the Top Secret pinto scene was even funnier. The Nazi vehicle was forced off a dirt road by some action by our heroic U.S. pop star. Just as the driver is regaining control of the vehicle, we see a Pinto just sitting out in the middle of the field in front of the Nazis. The driver recoils in horror and slams on the brakes and brings the vehicle to a stop, but just touches the Pinto to a ‘ding’ on the soundtrack followed by a second of silence and then a massive explosion, killing all the Nazis. Obviously a Zucker Brother’s film…
…and there was much rejoicing! yay.
punaise @ 78
Klown car?
