What’s worse than an anti-environmentalism Op-Ed in the Washington Post by the completely unqualified and defiantly ignorant Emily “Dear Prudence” Yoffe?
Relationship advice from Ann Althouse.
What happens when these two mental midgets connect? A sucking void so profound that not even light can escape.
Behold! An advice video by Ms. Yoffe where a reader wrote in to complain about her boyfriend’s dog.
Behold! The Althousian response:
ADDED: I watched this video, with Dear Prudence responding to a letter written by a woman who didn’t like her boyfriend’s dog. It was cutely put together with animation illustrating the problems — like the sound the dog makes when she’s licking herself — but there was nothing “counterintuitive” about telling the woman she’s got to put up with it or she’ll lose her boyfriend! I’d have told the woman not to sleep overnight with her boyfriend. That dog is annoying her the most during the night. Just pleasantly breeze out of there after you’ve had your fun and let him spend the night with the dog. Shake things up. Or here’s another idea, when the dog licks herself, lick yourself. Give him something to think about.
(emphasis mine)
Um, putting aside the obvious anatomical impossibility, Miz Althouse, your advice sounds like the perfect solution. That is, the perfect advice for someone who wants to spend their dotage watching American Idol all alone while getting smashed on wine from a box.
Thank you and good night.

Nuts!!
Blech….now that’s some serious imagery that calls for industrial-strength brain bleach. Thanks, big guy…
I am off to bed, but I don’t get the infatuation with Althouse. She sounds like some no talent schlep.
Ewww… I don’t wanna even think about either ann licking…. brain bleach stat!
I told ‘em downstairs…but I didn’t warn ‘em.
This has to be one of the best titles evah, TRex.
Pretty absurd fuckery, this mudwrestling image of Althouse and Yoffe, TRex, but it beats Lannprey by a ….?
RonD @ 6
I just scrolled right past all that.
EPU’d
All of Central Texas is still under flood warnings, and the forecasters say we may not have seen the worst of it yet.
From the Dallas newspaper:
Tex, some things can’t be scrolled past…they stick to the back of your eyes and just hang there.
Between the Coultergeist Lamprey pic and (now) the image of Ann Althouse doing the physically impossible…I’m gonna have to stay up all night to avoid the nightmares.
Oh, and about that Op-Ed piece…Miss Yoffe is 7 years old, right?
Atikar @ 12
Yeah, ain’t TRex grand.
My God! A double-header! All we need now is a little Malkkkin and it’ll be a sweep.

New Poll Finds That Young Americans Are Leaning Left
By ADAM NAGOURNEY and MEGAN THEE
Young Americans are more likely to favor an open-door policy on immigration, the legalization of gay marriage and government-run health care, a poll found.

Yeah, I saw that on the news tonight. I trust you guys are alright? That mess is stretching all the way up into northeast Oklahoma where my son lives.

Doc, man, have a heart. Even 60ft. tall Theropods can only withstand so much Rightard Fuckery in a day.
TexB @ 16
In the context of Coulter, Althouse, and Malkin, I am almost afraid to think what that might entail.
Dr D, we are at the top of a hill. All is good. Of course my nephew works on a Nat’l Guard base that sinks into the mud with frequency …
TRex @ 19
True. You are a braver man than I for wading through the putrid sewers of the rightard blogoverse.
TexB @ 21
Sounds like typical military planning. Maybe he’ll get a little unscheduled time off. More likely, from what I know of the Army, they’ll have him watering the lawns.
TexB @ 21
Hey, that sounds like the handiwork of the Army Corps of Engineers!

If anyone is interested…digby (Who’s minding the PBS Store) starts with Coulter but ends with Luntz at PBS. Also includes a little Melanie Morgan for your troll reading pleasure.
Suppose there was a program that ritually disintegrated media content. Sort of a visual ionizing decomposition of the media content. Think of an author like a blimp full of hydrogen. The crucible of the self is presented for docking and ignition. There is a trigger and a spark becomes an inferno of words and pixels. Bjork is playing in the background. So long song. Bye bye bitmap.

Fred Astaire dancing with Ann Coulter, Fraulein Althouse licking her own eyes (I hope) like an iguana… did I miss anything?
Just wondering …
There’s a regular commenter at Althouse’s blog who calls himself “steve simels.” There was a music critic at the Village Voice for a long time by that name. Same person?
Patrick 4/4 @ 36
Have you forgotten the birthday cake, balloons and presents?
I did some focus groups and most people responded to the name Frank Luntz with the words “douchebag with a bad toupe”.

P.S.
Let the race to the bottom begin.

Oh no, I missed Loudon Lib’s birthday! Darn.
I always miss the fun parties.
cake and other food goodies are still in the fridge. i stashed away about half of em for the Late Late Nite crowd.
GSD @ 39
Like GM from which it was spun off, Delphi is burdened with ruinous retiree health insurance obligations. So long as it can’t shift those obligations onto society as a whole, there is no scenario under which it is economically viable for the long term.
Why the car companies and their suppliers aren’t out front leading the movement for universal health care is a complete mystery to me. They would be the biggest winners of all.
TexB @ 38
Clearly. I was late and missed the party – all of you – you shouldn’t have – it’s not even my birthday.
Surprised – of course I was. Didn’t you see the look on my face? I mean, it’s not even my birthday…
Patrick 4/4 @ 36
Thanks Patrick 4/4. Coulter dances particularly well in that video, are you sure it’s the real Ann?
My theory on Althouse is that she’s pissed that other wingnuts are treated as though they have gravitas, all she has is gravityass.
*spit-take*
Too funny, TRex! I have a similar sitiation right here on the homefront. Cindy Loo Hoo in heat. Koby beside himself, literally frothing at the mouth.
Mutual licking.
Suzanne @ 42
Suzanne’s always watching out for us. The cake is great and there’s a big wet towel on the lawn for TRex to wash when he gets home. My BoSox lost (at least the Yanks did too), so I’m off to bed now.
As always I’ve enjoyed my dip in the Lake. Take care.
Hee-hee, I made Trex spit. My work here is done.

It’s a good day for afficionados of quality acoustic guitar playing.
Russ Barenberg has a new album out, his first solo recording in 20 years or so, and his first recording of any kind since the wonderful “Skip, Hop & Wobble” that he did with Jerry Douglas and Edgar Meyer in the mid-90s.
Listening now. Serious grin on my face.
Good night TRex! Sleep well.

Details? Bet it was just fun to meet the PDU contingent! I hope to meet them sometime soon, and you guys too. You know you have a friend if you make it to San Diego, right?
All right…
…Abu Gonzo was in town today talking shit about our community center and the programs it has available for kids, the anti-gang stuff. Directly across the street from the Community Center is a bit of a skater park. On the other side of the Community Center is the hospital where I’m employed.
So…here’s some links:
1. From Tom von Alten at Fort Boise. He has two stories up.
2. Jim Hansen’s United for Idaho. Great comments, BTW.
3. The Idaho Democratic Party had boo-coo links to stories!
It was amazingly ‘low-key’ – there wasn’t much of a police presence. A few Boise City cops and they were fairly laid back. One hung out in the rear of the crowd and a couple were over by the cavalcade of five cars, two SUVs (Durango types) that carried Gonzo and staff. The windows were even down on the ride. It was beautiful here today. There was no stopping of traffic. I don’t think most people realized what was going on.
what kinda shit about your community center? he didn’t like yours?
Loo Hoo. @ 66
Sadly, the future Mrs Downunder couldn’t make it, Friday’s the end of our financial year so her work’s pretty frantic at the moment.
Pete had been travelling for hours, having suffered a 90 minute delay taking off. He had a cold. There’s a 2 hour time difference so, for him, it was 9.30 before we actually ate. Despite all that, he was charming, funny and he kept us entertained with travel stories and interesting legal stories for hours. We plan to catch up with him when we’re next in Brisbane. If you get the chance to meet up, do it.
And here’s my list of things to do if I ever get to San Diego:
1 – Meet Terry Loo Hoo
2 – cuddle Cindy Loo Hoo
3 – go to the zoo

A&M covered up bio-weapon infections, group says
By R.A. DYER
rdyer@star-telegram.com
AUSTIN — Three Texas A&M University researchers became accidentally infected with a highly contagious biological weapons agent last year and then university officials covered it up, an Austin-based watchdog group alleged Tuesday.
The infections were confirmed in April 2006, but the university did not report them to the Centers for Disease Control until recently, in violation of federal law, the watchdog group alleged.
The biological weapons agent is known as Coxiella burnetti, or “Q Fever,” according to the watchdog group.
The organization’s director said Q Fever is extremely contagious, although fatal in only 1 or 2 percent of cases and is treatable with antibiotics. A university official released a document that indicates the individuals did not become ill.
“A&M’s infection of its staff and students with bioweapons agents and its serial violations of (federal regulations) demand law enforcement,” said Edward Hammond, director of the Sunshine Project, a bioweapons watchdog group based in Austin. He said the university should be slapped with severe sanctions under the federal Bioterrorism Act.
“Congress surely did not intend biology professors to consider law to prevent bioterrorism optional,” said Hammond. His organization earlier became the first to report a separate A&M incident in 2006 in which another worker also became infected with a biological agent.

Okay, that’s straight outta scifi/fantasy and they sanctioned it just because of homo sapien origins? Whisky Tango Foxtrot…
Bad enough that even fictional manga covered just how bad humanity could react to ‘chimera’ of that exact description. Badly..violently and all over the place. FullMetalAlchemist explored that a bit. HagaRen no Rengitsu(i think, been a long time since i’ve even seen the anime) We can’t even deal with the natural variations of ourselves, i don’t think we’ll deal so well with those chimera children in general. There will be exceptions that can look past that, but not a lot, methinks. Humanity still has yet to grow the hell up. *sighs*
Evening TRex and the rest of you puppies… hope we are far enough down the thread to change the subject a wee bit.
Here’s a little reportage on Dick Cheney…you can bet a lot of astrologers are weighing in on every aspect of his chart…won’t go into detail but here’s what most everybody agrees on.
Cheney will fight back furiously, secretly and agressively against the latest attacks and no one will get anywhere in challenging him…until…the late summer, early fall when he has a health issue that continues to grow into a crisis by March 08, he fades in power and authority during those months but there is no real agreement among the astrologers I know on what that means – him out of office or him just out.
Ah, it is late enough to eat crow in the dark. I felt pretty puffy yesterday but dangitall that real life pushback thang is the mother of all metastability.
“Shake it don’t brake it.”
Somehow, today turned out like tomorrow was supposed to be (slightly down). If tomorrow doesn’t trade like today was billed to be (white marubozu) then I’m sweating the small stuff until the interest rate announcement. Is there a case for a lowering? There sure will be when the big chill election thrill is knee high to the fourth of July. Just not now. But the unexpected is just what I’m expecting. Just not tomorrow.
In case of lingering concerns, I like Bjork — what better to accompany virtual visual deconstruction…. Weak phrasing on my part may have been suggestive in a way I didn’t intend.
sure is late enough, spidey, and, as you know, we encourage off topic in the late nite and late late nite threads.
i had been wondering about this. i’m surprised cheeney hadn’t declared his date and time of birth as classfied.
Well sombody must have it because they are now declaring him to have a Virgo rising and as we all know, Saturn, when it is good and done with Leo, where it is now, will enter Virgo…and that means it will come in contact with his ascendant…boo hoo
Sorry to but in but I was wondering, I went over to MSNBC to check out Countdowns videos and the whole site appears to be down, a DDS or something else?
Suzanne @ 68
Oh mi gawd…why’d I put that?!
Welll..it was shit when you place it in context of this untenable ‘war’ this administration has this country bound up in AND the bullshit Gonzales has done on his own. Then to come and talk about the good that our community center has done, is doing etc.

Its not as bad as it appears,
He’s got a limo and a Ph.D.!
Or somethin’ like that.

Gonzales wouldn’t come out. Our local press was all there, about 100 protestors…protesting with some amazing signs. We even had some street theatre character show up. According to Faux News we sang anti-war songs.
We sang – first ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’, ‘America the Beautiful’, ‘This Land is my Land’, then smatterings of like Joe Hill type tunes…the FUCK song (country joe). When some lackey came out and said Abu wasn’t coming out but was going to the U.S. Attorney’s office and only creditialed media would be allowed, boos, catcalls, and folks chanting ‘Coward’ – ‘Coward’ …..
Pissed the local media off….

Nope…he wouldn’t come out. I wandered down and was front and center most of the time, holding a sign, singing….the works.
Wordsmith @ 119
Loo Hoo is right. Thanks for that.
Here’s a story from our local paper.
You know it’s one thing to read and view things from 3000 miles away. It’s quite another to view such arrogance up close and in your face. I was livid. The intent was not to drown him out or anything. It was about expressing our disgust with what he has done via the protest signs. I certainly had no intention of interrupting him or being rude. They don’t even have the courage of their convictions/ideals because they’re not courageous.
Wordsmith @ 121
No counter-protesters? Got’em on the run. In Idaho!
Well wordsmith, congratulations! You guys forced him to delay his news conference. Good enough! Bet that news conference was absolute gold……!

Indeed. I need to own a J-Bass before I die, or maybe even a Bass VI.
BTW, I just found, on YouTube, some vids of Jimi at the infamous Newport Pop Festival at Devonshire Downs, Northridge, CA. Yours truly was in the audience that day, Sunday, when Jimi and many others blew the San Fernando Valley apart.
SteveAudio @ 134
I tried a Jaguar the other day…Very intriguing.
Probably this one among them ;>) …I had a poster made from a still taken at that show, kind of bizarre seeing Jimi in front of a wall of Fender cabs.

Now THAT’S fuckery !!!!! *G*
darkblack @ 135
Indeed. My 2nd time seeing him (how lucky I an to have been around in the ’60s).
My other memories of that day are the Byrds, with Clarence White and his B-String bender on lead guitar.
I actually had one on my Les Paul Jr. for a while.

How fortunate to see such talents before they left this place.
On that note…goodnight, Steve, and goodnight FDL.

(A Very Early) Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s soupy here in central Jersey: uncomfortably humid and warm this morning, with another day of temps in the mid 90s.
Mr. NJP says another big decision for SCOTUS will be coming this week, eviscerating Brown v. Board of Ed—yet another reminder how important it is to elect more liberal Democrats to Congress, so that we never have another Alito. Called my senators yesterday to urge them to vote for the restoration of habeas.
For every small step forward lately [huzzahs to Rep. Waxman and props to Rahm Emanuel’s defunding the fourth branch amendment], it seems like there are continued assaults on civil liberties, rule of law, environmental protection, not to mention the tragedy that is Iraq. It’s hard not to be disheartened. I just keep telling myself, in the words of egregious: “It’s a marathon, not a sprint. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.”
Keep fighting the good fight.
Work for peace, every day.
Steamy in Georgia but the drought is bad.
Good morning Raven. Here in the Georgia mountains, it’s 68, and we’ve had rain something like every other day. It’s spotty (my Boyfriend’s place in Gilmer Co. has gotten twice what I have) but is not as parched.
MR. Bill @ 141
Yea, it’s been strange how the spot showers hit and miss. They just went to one day a week watering here, my wife is not going to be happy, her garden is her life!
raven @ 142
The BF is the same way, but has a private well on a isolated spot on 30 acres. He’s watering every third day, unless it pours. One day last month he got 3 inchs of rain in 4 hours..
The BF is the same way, but has a private well on a isolated spot on 30 acres. He’s watering every third day, unless it pours. One day last month he got 3 inchs of rain in 4 hours..
I wish it had poured before I had to dig two post holes for our funky new gate. I’m out of shape for using the phd’s in concrete!
Morning all, I live in Roswell, GA and we have been on once a week watering for awhile now. I can hear thunder but the pop up showers seem to miss us.
JPL @ 145
Damn, if Marion and trex show up we’ll have a political party here in peachville!
Good morning, pups. In the NYT today MoDo talks about W being schooled by Presidential Scholars on American values and then goes on to discuss Darth Cheney, and Thomas Friedman writes that “the whole world is watching” and photographing and recording everyone else.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
Coffee and tea are ready, and there’s a selection of bagels. Some of the cream cheese is plain, but some of it has chives and chive blossoms out of the garden. And to cheer everyone up, there’s this story in the NYT that says young people are increasingly leaning left:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06…..tQ5PhcP9ag
Have a happy day.
Marion in Savannah @ 147
Like clockwork!
Anyone from Bainbridge or Valdosta!
I read the article on young people leaning left and it made me think of Cassie and her great snark. Raven, I went to my block party and although the street is pretty small, I was surprised to learn that my neighbors had seen Al Gore’s movie.
darkblack @ 138
Darkblack’s envy echoed here
I was 13 when I checked Untitled out from the library. Never heard anything like it before or since.
I wanted a Jag for some time as well before I realized the only reason Tom Verlaine had his was because it was cheap (as is he ;)
Very happy with my less vintage (early/mid 90s) American Tele now.
JPL @ 150
Great!Of course we are sort of a Blue island over here in the classic city. Too bad they gerrymanderd us into a red district. These idiots running for Norwoods seat are something to behold.
What surprises me about the south is how they vote against their economic interests. By painting a picture that it’s the immigrants fault that you have low wages, the politicians here can get away with anything. Praise be to the lord.
JPL @ 153
The only way I can make sense of the ‘Red South’ is as identity politics: it’s us (baptist, bubba, Nascar, white, downmarket, Trent Lott, ‘Southern Heritage’, Manly) against them (not baptist, educated, Opera, not white, upscale, Ted Kennedy, Modernism, Gay).
It’s emotional politics, based on basic fears, not anything about what politics actually does.
Mr. Bill, down here Ted Kennedy is responsible for all evils..
You nailed it, MR. Bill. I’ve tried to discuss politics with some of the people at work and all most of them do is parrot talking points. When asked to back up the talking points with any sort of real information all they respond with are blank stares or the perfect fall-back position — “You wouldn’t understand. You’re not from here.” On a positive note, I’ve turned the boss around. Even his wife asked me how I did it! (Years of slow, patient work…)
JPL @ 155
Well, him and the Clenis…
Good morning pups! I’m back from my niece’s wedding. All is well.
Now I understand why people go gaga about Lake Michigan. SO beautiful.
Marion in Savannah @ 156
Well Marion, the net of Church and Rightwing media domination of discourse is almost complete for some of these folks. The ‘Hillary is a murdress/lesbian/communist’ meme is alive and well.
And when in 2004, I wrote a letter to the editor of my local paper saying that George Bush was not, in fact, a Texas cowboy, but the Connecticut born son of a President, the Grandson of a Senator and Nazi Collaborator, and former Andover Cheerleader (not that there is anything wrong with that) I had a group of Republican local worthies show up in the bookstore I was managing, and call me a traitor , ‘hurting the war effort’. Some threatened a boycott. (The store was sold, and now I’m a carpenter).
One of the women has apologized to me this year.
The rest are spouting the same party lines.
egregious @ 158
Where were you?
MR. Bill @ 159
Yea, well when scumbags like John Barrow are Democrats you know right were you stand here don’t you?
raven @ 160
Hey raven!
How are you?
The wedding was in Sheboygan Wisconsin. My niece married the minister’s son and the dad performed the ceremony. The dad started tearing up about halfway thru, it was very sweet.
“Yea, well when scumbags like John Barrow are Democrats you know right were you stand here don’t you?”
Uhh I could google this but who’s John Barrow?
I just hate that Mark Taylor is the best we can do at the State level.
Shower and work now.
Eg, glad you enjoyed your visit to the Midwest *which should properly be called the Mideast (East of the Mississippi)
Cheerio
Mr. Bill, A friend mentioned that he was pretty right wing and I simply answered that I’m not like that because I try to read both sides of an issue. He had no response.
Mack, I grew up in SW Ohio, so more like returning to the Midwest.
Mideast, that’s a good one.
egregious @ 163
Aw, wonderful. I married a minister’s daughter one in a far away universe.
The lake is awesome.
We’re OK, dad-in-law seems to be getting better, they took the stitches out.
thx
ah Ok, Barrow is that conservative S. GA Dem..
I have trouble sorting out the Congresscritters.
Mine is the odious Nathan Deal.
And my folks, just across the line in NC were thrilled to have Schuler as opposed to Chas. Taylor, although I’m not convinced he’s that much better. Perhaps more honest, just not particularly progressive at all.
raven—
