Thanks to everyone who has bought Glenn Greenwald’s book, A Tragic Legacy: How a Good vs. Evil Mentality Destroyed the Bush Presidency, which has now climbed to #12 on the Amazon Best Seller List. It’s an amazing accomplishment — normally a publishing company would have to launch a very expensive promotional campaign and have an author on cable TV wall-to-wall to have that kind of sales.
If you haven’t bought the book, please do. We’ve been watching it climb up the charts since its release yesterday when it was at #137. It would be great if we could nudge it up there even more. If you’re tired of hearing the same old useless, bloviating talking heads on cable TV, we need to support people like Glenn and give them the credibility they need to get a foothold in that world. Book sales is something even Tweety understands.
Thanks to everyone who has posted about it:

Aargh!!!
Bought six: one for me, one for each kid and one for the boss. We may break the top ten even as we speak…er, type!
Tweety served Coultergiest some much deserved crow!!! Rock On Glenn!!!
Thanks to technorati, I know at least 6 people were exposed to Janes message.

Hey AK, have you read this about Cheney and the Aluminum Tube fiasco?
http://www.boomantribune.com/s…..194838/993
CTuttle @ 7
I had heard of it, but this is amazing detail! Grist for my mill! Thank you! (Is the dam cracking? will it all go down at once…?)
I ordered the book. But should it be instead, “An Evil versus Good Mentality”?
Alfred Kelgarries @ 8
It certainly seems like those (fire)Walls are a crumbling down!!! *g*
CTuttle @ 7
quote:
“Funny thing…did you know that the next day Nicoli Pollari met with Deputy National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley? Yeah, it’s true. I know it is not normal for the head of a foreign intelligence agency to meet with a counterpart above his grade, but it happened and it was confirmed by our own government. Those aluminum tubes happened to be used for 81-mm rocket artillery shells in Italy’s Medusa air-to-ground missile defense system. Pollari didn’t bother to mention that. Or…if he did, they don’t want to discuss it.”
I’m stunned

i hope it happens in time to prevent us from moving further down the path of confrontation with iran.
Jane, slight edit needed on your update:
YOU, Jane, rock! We are but pebbles joyously building the beachhead for Democracy with you here at the Lake.
Elizabeth Edwards rocks, too, a righteous smackdown of Ann Coulter, just watched. Seeing the twitchy features of Acid Ann finally settle into a be-yotchy sneer, I’ve concluded she is the political version of Andrew Dice Clay…and just gettin’ more and more rancid.
jayt @ 14
Fear the power of The Lake(tm)! When the Lake-signal lights up the sky (TRex with a Taser), rethugs and evil-doers flee and hide. (cue 60’s batman theme…)
Buy lots and give them to everyone you know. fyi amazon counts multiple orders as just one for purposes of their statistics.
Please give amazon reviewers good recs, make your -own- review and remember to give it 5 stars.
And while you’re at it, give good recs to his first book.

No because we need Chalabi to take over from Sadam! That was supposed to have happend four years ago, but Bremer (probably under orders from Cheney) hashed it up. Chalabi has been lurking as head of the utterly vital branch of the Iraqi “government” who decides whether an ex-Baathist (ie anyone with a useful skill) can be “De-Baathified” (I’m not kidding, that’s the official designation for the process) or not. Needless to say, he is accumulating vast amounts of cash and still only letting a trickle through, one of the main reasons why the Iraqi government ministries are less than useless.
Just you watch: when we DO pull out, it will be in such a way as to allow Chalabi to become the next Saddam. You heard it here first.
KO-In Too Veep!!! ;-)
I also ordered a book by someone named Marcy Wheeler.
Chris Matthews “I know we will be selling a lot of copies of ‘Godless’. I can’t get to Confession, fast enough.”
That is a Catholic joke. It means that he has sinned and has to confess and pay a penance of 15 Hail Mary’s and promise never to do it again.
Wow, wow, wow!!! Congratulations Glenn Greenwald!!
Alfred Kelgarries @ 31
That would not surprise me one Iota! The final Cheney accomplishment! After all is said and done, Poof, he got his way again!!! 8-)
CTuttle @ 20
I’m wondering if the Italian secret service guy who was killed by American troops while rescuing a leftist reporter was involved in any way in this thing and might have been intentionally hit.
There’s that tin foil hat area my ex speaks of.
Hiya Punaise and busted and Jane.
ok, ok. I ordered my copy!
Punaise, and, thanks for matching me with the Blue America $5 contributions last eve! (And, I thought you bought your book at least yesterday, if not before?)
I left my credit card by the computer, so I didn’t have it today, as I discovered when I went through the check out line at the grocery store. Oh. dear.

Is Glenn’s book available at Barnes and Noble? I am leaving for vacation on Friday and won’t receive it in time so I wanted to hit the bricks and mortar instead.
Hi VG!
TRex @ 38

hiya VG. bought the book yesterday.

Stovepiping!
Back during the Reagan years it was alledged that Cheney and Rumsfield engaged in stove piping. As I recall it was a CIA operation that che and rum tried to use as “justification” for some military option. After, President Reagan was told of the nature of the CIA operation, chen and rum did not get their way. Besides they where probably preoccupied with Iran/Contra?
Seems a “pattern of conduct” can be established here. “Stove-piping” intelligence is the pattern. I call it “treason” of the most egregious kind. The last paragraph of Joe Wilson’s OP-ED concerning a Democracy’s decision to go to war is burned in my mind forever. Applying simple logic that If there be no greater sacrifice than to lay down one’s life in defense of freedom so others may live; then it stands that the intentional manipulation of “reason” and the ‘systematic instillation; of “falsehoods,” triggering unwarranted death, must constitute a high crime requiring impeachment. Anything less condones the murder and slaughter!
OT: Alfred, I just tried to post a comment at your blog, but got the message that my password is invalid and have no idea why or what to do about it?

greenwarrior @ 44
okay, I think I should post this on the front page. You need to use your google account to make comments. It even throws ME out when I try to make a comment until I enter my google credentials. IIRC, you DID leave a comment before, so you got in once. And if LOTS of people can’t leave comments, then that’s why the comment count was so low…..dammit. I HAVE to get this program compiled and FTP’d first, so earliest is late tonight but prob tomorrow morning. I’ll put detailed commenting instructions in the blog and post here as well.
Thanks for the interest and patience. And actually, I just engaged the Ft Worth Symphony to score and play the piece for a recording to be released with my new book “The Circumcision Of The Dick”. (Remember, my mom was a classical pianist who taught music theory and played jazz as well. I was about 18 before I realized other people DIDN’T eat supper surrounded by Grieg or Mozart. Some of it obviously rubbed off.)

I got nothing that hasn’t been said politely or not so politely.
What a horrible and wretched human.
An avalanche of calls and emails should be directed at both Good Morning America AND Chris Matthews/Hardball stating ‘we won’t watch’ and we WILL contact sponsors of those shows and boycott them until they agree NOT to show her again. Ever.
Force meets force. Money rules, use it to our gain.
Harumph.
My god what an ugly souled human being.
Twisted- I was scratching my head on that one for a while– Glenn’s demographic def. skews older!

If you can buy, ask it anyway….the more buzz the better.

We will never pull out unless our armed forces are slaughtered as a result of doing Iran . . . . .
But Chalabi WILL rise to our puppet strings . . that I concur with. He’s lasted too long . . . . but that’s not why he will rise . .
1) USA has spent too much money on him already. ROI is DUE, folks . . .
2) There’s a LOT of people who have backed him, and who would suffer GREAT embarassment if it came out they DID support him and he WASN’T a leader.
3) Skeletons in the closet with Chalabi abound, more so than with OTHER bit players who have auditioned for the part.
He’s good, he’s got dirt to reveal on everyone in the MIC, big biz, Pentago, CIA, agency’s, politicians . . . . . . he can con the neocon’s. And they ain’t gone yet, either. And, he’s got dirt on every middle east leader, country and player too. Unless he ingests polonium unexpectedly, I say, AK JOHNSON IS RIGHT!

I actually do, for my sines (mathematicians don’t sin, they sine…). Here is Ravings Of A Rational Mind. The title is from a throwaway line in one of Michael Kurland’s Moriarity books, which I have unabashedly stolen. I am contemplating a second, companion blog called Persistence Of Vision to hold postings like those I do here at FDL (the short ones, not the war and piece ones.):) We’ll see on that too.

The non-fiction and fiction lists will merge when it becomes apparent that Cheney is Voldemort. Unfortunately, this means that Cheney’s soul has been split into six pieces, and every one of them must be vanquished. KO did a breakdown on it on his show last night.

What a gift he’s been thru the years, ya think?
I was SUCH a huge Sandy Denny fan and of Fairport . . . Richard T has gone on and beyond ANYTHING I ever would have thought in his songs, writings, topics, and such . . . he’s hell to play to though, SO many specialized tunings to get the sound he does get . . . . but if ya follow the voice and the melody, it’s MUCH easier . . .*G*

What drives me nuts is how few Brits know anything about him.
larue @ 69
Before you go berzerk on Chalabi, do you remember what the record is on Heads of State installed during an Occupation? When the occupying force finally leaves, the incumbent is not the most risk-free position! Do you remember the word “quisling“? History, and the citizens of the country, have not been kind to them.
Of course, one reason they want to install Chalabi is that he can be counted on to ask us to stay. Which of course is what Cheney wants.

REALLY?!?!?!?
I’ve met many a Brit Picker (ok, a few each fest over the years) at festivals here in CA, even in the past 6 years when I started going a lot again, and they all revere RT . . along with MANY many others all over the Isles . . . Pogues, Christy Moore, Paddy Keenan, and more . . .
What a shock to learn RT is not revered in England????? Wowser . . . .
Aside: I met this kat at my fav fest (www.strawberrymusic.com) in a blue peacoat, bluejeans, black turtleneck sweater, black british racing cap (forgot what they are called) at a fest in ‘04 I think. Camp jams abound, and we found ourselves with mutual friends in a camp . . . he was a true artist, I forget his name . . . lived his life with his guitar (mid 50’s at the time) and made his way on the road one gig and one night and one pub at a time for the most part . . .
He knew TONS of songs from everyone from the ’30’s to modern day . . . RT among them . . but what kilt me was when he ripped out Me And My Uncle, and I didn’t know his words!!!
I know the Dead’s version, he was singing the original as written by John Phillips of Mama’s N Papa’s fame . . . I NEVER KNEW John Phillip’s had written that song!! Blew me away, I shared the Bushmill’s with him immediately. *G*
I ordered my copy just now. Ordering it was a foregone conclusion, after reading his first book!

Just ordered 3 copies. Great use of the blog!
On a related topic, I just got back from the rally and lobbying day in D.C. to restore habeas corpus recommended in a post by Siun a few days ago. Thanks for that suggestion too. There were several thousand people there. I went to Kirsten Gillibrand’s office and was glad to hear she’s calling for hearings on the details of the Iraq oil law, how it has a page or two on distribution of profits to various regions in Iraq but has maybe 80 pages on distribution of guaranteed profits to foreign companies. And John Hall is working hard to prevent aggression against Iran.
