Apart the bomb shelter stuff, watching Kruschev pound his shoe on the podium at the UN was the most vivid scary moment I remember.

Like many WWII Russians, Kruschev didn’t bathe much (that’s why cologne was invented, BTW). When he whipped his shoe off, it was an attack by a WMD (Weapon of Mass Disgusticulation). My boss was about fifty feet away and HE could smell the delicious aroma of Kremlin Foot (similar to athlete’s foot except no physical activity is required.)

Raw Story update: Cheney’s chief of staff rebukes Kerry on Cheney’s secrecy oversight

In a letter on Vice President Dick Cheney’s stationery, Cheney chief of staff David Addington issued a letter to Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) today defending the Vice President’s interpretation of his office being outside the executive branch.

A copy of the letter was provided to RAW STORY.

“Dear Senator Kerry,” Addington writes. “The executive order on classified national security information — Executive Order 12958 as amended in 2003 — makes clear that the Vice President is treated like the President and distinguishes the two of them from ‘agencies.’”

No longer satisfied with the Vice President’s office’s claim that Cheney is actually an admixture between the legislative and executive branch, Addington now posits that the Vice President’s office is not an “agency.”

“The executive order gives the [Information Security Oversight Office], under the supervision of the Archivist of the United States, responsibility to oversee certain activities of ‘agencies,’ but not of the Vice President or the President.”

To get right down to the nitty gritty, what they are saying is that the President and the Vice President are exempt from any oversight in regard to protection of classified national security secrets.

That is scarey as hell.

Gives new meaning to outting a CIA agent, don’t you think?

(1) the President and, in the performance of executive duties, the Vice President;

(2) agency heads and officials designated by the President in the Federal Register; and

(3) United States Government officials delegated this authority pursuant to paragraph (c) of this section.

d) Original classification authorities must receive training in original classification as provided in this order and its implementing directives. Such training must include instruction on the proper safeguarding of classified information and of the criminal, civil, and administrative sanctions that may be brought against an individual who fails to protect classified information from unauthorized disclosure.

“(e) Persons authorized to disseminate classified information outside the executive branch shall ensure the protection of the information in a manner equivalent to that provided within the executive branch.”

Okay Cheney…take that Mr. VP Entity.
