Loo Hoo @ 141
dakine @ 136
Jimbo92107 @ 193

Nancy Pelosi is a smart woman on the right side of the issues except impeachment. Everyone assumes it’s because she fears impeachment will fail. She may fear successful impeachment more. In his heart of hearts, perhaps Al Gore didn’t want to be president. If the presidential bug had bitten him bad, he would not have chosen Lieberman as his running mate and he would not have been so condescending towards Clinton. If impeachment succeeds Nancy ends up president. That may be more than she bargained for, although as Jimbo says, it’s her job.

As for impeachment, it could succeed because Bush and Cheney’s violations of the constitution are so egregious, even Republicans may not be able to ignore them. I don’t think the no confidence Gonzales vote is comparable. That was meaningless show. Impeachment is the real McCoy.

Cheney claims his limbo status between executive and legislature puts him in a class by himself. If so, his claims of executive privilege were fraudulent. Bush’s signing statements for a handful of laws (about 16 investigated so far) inspired him to ignore one third of the duly passed legislation. That’s grounds. If it’s blow jobs that get Republican attention, we might investigate what Jeff Gannon did in the White House until 5 AM.

There’s no choice. We can do nothing (although that’s a choice) and hope to undo things in 2008 and also hope Congressional cowardice doesn’t inspire Bush to push the envelop into martial law. Bob Dylan says you don’t have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing. Even Republicans may come to know.

With a comment number this high, maybe no one will even notice, but I was a big fan of Steve Gilliard’s and not only wrote a little about him, I provided some samples of his work to show why he was so wonderful and will be so greatly missed. Sure hope the link works and that someone will check it out.

“And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” is a great anti-war song from 1972 by Eric Bogle and is yet another wonderful discovery of the best blog you haven’t been reading, Hart Williams’s Zug, the Little Blog That Could. You can get to it Here:

Pelosi’s “off the table” remark may have been intended to be pragmatic and honest, but the repercussions were a disaster.

First, all the people who busted their asses to get out the vote for her and her newly elected majority collegues felt completely betrayed. Hell, if we wanted NOTHING to happen, we could have all stayed home.

Second, the Bushies saw her statement as an admission of weakness, encouraging them to push their corrupt and despicable agenda even further.

Third, there’s an enormous ethical (and logical) flaw in that kind of pragmatism and honesty. Bush, Cheney and Companies have clearly done many things worthy of impeachment. The proper response is therefore to impeach immediately, because THAT’S HER JOB.

From a political perspective it really doesn’t matter if the proceedings run right into the middle of election season, because again, it’s Pelosi’s responsibility to guard our Constitution from these sorts of assaults. Besides, impeachment hearings would finally expose to the American people just a fraction of the filth of this criminal regime. This dirty laundry is waaaay past rank, and it needs major airing out. What better time to rub the Republicans’ noses in it than election season?

Let them call it politically motivated, damn straight it is, but it’s a righteous political motivation. It’s time to set the table for impeachment, and reserve special seats for Dick Cheney and the organ grinder’s chimp, George Bush.
