With apologies to Scarecrow, who is tired of seeing Lieberman’s face on FDL and wishes Ned Lamont had run against Angelina Jolie.

YES! Finally. BTW, EmptyWheel has just fragged Darth at TNH:
linky.
Hilarious Jane. Hilarious.
No, no Jane. Not Ned Lamont. Drew Barrymore. Drew against Angie. That’s my kind of election.
Jane, a pleasure having you around for Late Nite. Been a while.
And, I am tired of hearing Joe’s whiny voice.
“Susan… Collins is … trustworthy… ahnd.. she’s productive….” etc.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icB8Ugk9oOA
Bush says he and Cheney BOTH exempt from Executive Order 12958
Spokesman says its not obvious, “takes a little bit of inference”
Link to LA Times article
Did you do that Jane? If so, I have a “friend” who wants to know how you did it.
Lieberman. No rest for the weary (me) on this subject.
SeamusD @ 7
Bush mantra: “I know you understand what you think I said but I don’t think you understood what I meant to say…”
Give it up Scarecrow… There is no saving that face from our eternal scorn..)
How much do I dislike Lieberman? That’s between me and my Lord.
I’ve already donated to Allen. Just to get Holy Joe’s goat.
Alfred, please, get the hell back to the previous thread and tell us more about the scorned Bush ex-wife. Don’t leave us hanging like that!
Democrats. Dump this bum!
Barbara in DC @ 13
LIEberman is the new Delay/Newtie for us. Like Hillary is for the rethugs.
Please don’t get me started on Hillary. ;0)
Can’t you just see RGJoe asking his BlueDog and GOP buddies:
Every one of them will back away, slowly,
We’ve taken away his raison d’etre — money-raising. They sure won’t keep him around for his unpleasant sound or his fugly mug.
This Tom Allen counter-fundraiser was a brilliant stroke. RGJoe is absolutely no use whatsoever; in fact, he’s counterproductive as he mobilizes the DFHs for the opponent of whoever he tries to help.
Neil @ 8
Where does the line form??? I have a “freind” that may be interested, too!!!
Loo Hoo. @ 14
okay, okay, put away the switch. I’m going, I’m going…:>
There isn’t much more I can add to the thousands of articles online, tho. This is very old news to Bu$hCo watchers like meself…
There was a time when LieberJudas was willing to set his price somewhat higher than 30 pieces of silver and a nickname (and what would that be, “Kneepads”, perhaps?) from Preznit Dipshit DeKe.
The unfortunate part is that the good citizens of Connecticut now have to live down elected officials of the caliber of John Rowland (R-convicted) and “Kneepads” LieberJudas (I-Robot) for a long, long time.
We, OTOH only need to pick up a few Senate seats in ‘08 to send Joey Kneepads off the the local Dicks Sporting Goods in search of more comfortable kneewear for his extended floor-walking sessions as he tries regain credibility from any Democrat who will let him in the door without laughing their ass off at his pleas for forgiveness (”But I was for Civil Rights before I voted against them on behalf of my BFF Georgie”).
Fuck Lieberman and his schtick. After ‘08 he’s fucking political toast; neither side will trust him, and his best friends will continue to be the Media Whores he’s sucking up to now.
Maybe Timmy can answer that age-old question for us all … Holy Joe: spitter or swallower?
Oklahoma kiddo @ 17
okay. I’m trying to be a GOOD BOY tonight. Will fail miserably, but I am TRYING…
Jesus, I meant to spell Friend!!!! It’s hell getting old.
Nine dead US soldiers today in Iraq..and Joe really doesn’t give a shit..were making the Middle East safe for I*****..which is bullshit..but he is willing to continue killing for a fantasy.
From this Demo donkey to you elephant Joe…

It appears that even very conservative judges have begun to speak out against Bush.
Will the Party in Power in Congress need approval ratings of 1% before they will act?
-GSD
Jo Fish @ 21
KaaaChing!!
Oh yeah, what Punaise said about Joe Lieberman.
-GSD
GSD @ 27
No. They need A Spark. Like, proof chimpy and co KNEW BEFOREHAND about 9-11 and did nothing to stop it to avoid angering the saudis. or that they DELIBERATELY let New Orleans die to punish the blacks who live there.
When the spark snaps, the entire country will go up in flames. BTW, congress dosn’t HAVE to ALLOW chimpy to resign. He can resign all he wants to, but they still have the right to impeach and convict him, in absentia. And if he pardons himself and his frieds, look for congress to make that null and void. And then try him and his group in court (criminal and civil) and mete out harsh sentences.
Chimpy may just have messed with the wrong victim this time…
Part One of a four part series on Cheney:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/cheney/
Hmmm…after reading Marcy…I’d bet my bottom $ that the target of the CIA outing was a deliberate attempt at a two-fer. But the “wife” took the hit, because she was less notorious.
Loo Hoo. @ 31
Jeebus. This is a high class assasination piece. Chimpy and Darth may no longer be BFF’s.
LS #32, it was also a warning shot across the bow of any other CIA assets who may have been thinking about opposing the policy.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 30
Chew on this for awhile Alfred. Who paid the Saudi families of the hijackers???

I like the header in the title, too: Angler
RonD @ 34
Right.
RonD @ 34
“Nice twins ya got there, be a shame if somethin’ happened to ‘em….”
Absolute thugs.
if the (D) party nominates and runs an ideological twin of Lieberman’s like Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama I will be curious to see how opponents to their neo-con politics will be treated.
All this excoriation of Lieberman will make it hard to advocate unconditional support of whoever gets the magic (D) nomination.
time to transpose and replace the neo-con/anti-neo-con political spectrum for the tired, played out (D) and (R) faux dichotomy, and state unequivocally that the vaunted ‘netroots’ will work against a neo-con candidate from either party.
just saying – cause otherwise people will have to tapdance back and say “oh Lieberman’s policies will taste so sweet now because Barack/Hillary has covered them with nice sugar talk“
Alfred Kelgarries @ 20
Yeah Alfred. That was a tease!!
AK,
I still believe there are smoking guns in regards to New Orleans.
Michael Brown said that the decision was made to drag feet with the assistance to Lousiana because the Governor was a female Democrat.
It was apparent what happened. Stymie Blanco, answer and jump when Haley Barbour needed action.
It is the most sick and depraved thing to happen since the Iraq War.
The Somoza Family were ultimately ruined by fallout of their rape of Nicargua after they and their cronies pocketed aid money sent to assist after the earthquake.
Too bad Bush has the most powerful and all encompassing propaganda machine ever assembled working for him.
The machine is busted but it is throwing enough smoke to prevent clear vision.
-GSD
My blood pressure goes up everytime I hear the name Lieberman, or worse, see his face, I swear…
LS @ 35
Sadly, this is not news to anyone who keeps up with such things. The only reason it is coming out now is that the current Saudi King is afraid that Bandar and Darthdar are scheming up a coup against him. And he could be right.
No, what we need is for Richard A Clarke to stand up in front of congress with a set of documents and tapes and disks and say, “I retract my apology. I DIDN”T LET YOU DOWN, THEY SET YOU UP.” Then the fire will begin, socially speaking.
LS @ 40
I’m sorry. (hangs head in shame.) will I get a whuppin?
Joe Lieberman is not running for president.
I want contrast between the Republican and Democratic candidates for president. I demand it! I don’t just want it.
GSD @ 41
my dad’s youngest brother was a methodist missionary in Nicaragua from 1945 till his death in 1995. He says the Somoza’s got it when their security forces killed that ABC reported and nothing was done about it. Don’t have any way to confirm or deny it. Undoubtedly the part you mention played a role.
And I totally agree on New Orleans. They did do it on purpose. But what has been left out is that HOUSTON was just as likely to have gotten hit as NO. And in that case, gas would be $29 a gallon because we’d have no refineries.
And the NO refugees who we had here told an even nastier tale. Wanna know why the 9th ward and such aren’t getting repaired? so that WHITE investors can buy up the ruined, condemned houses for pittances and then get the federal renewal money, spiff them up and sell then to hispanic or caucasian families for higher prices than they would have originally gone if Katrina never happened. I called it economic ethnic cleansing, and tried to direct the refugees to legal resources. doubt if it helped much, tho.
Whenever I think of New Orleans I think of the staged photo of Bush in Air Force flying over at 10,000.
Bush is wearing his blue president blazer with the presidential seal on the left breast.
Bush is looking out of the window. The strange thing is his hands are in semi-clenched fists.
It was a photo-op shot and I can just tell that the photographer said close your hands a little more, look out the window.
Knowing that the chaos and human misery was unfolding beneath him and he’s playing photo-op is one of the most sickening things I have ever seen.
That was also the over flight that Marie Antoinette Barbara Bush said: “When he flew over, it was the most important thing in the world to some of THOSE people.”
The French Aristocrats before the revolution have nothing on these folks.

GSD @ 41
Ray Nagin is a Bush tool. He was a republican before running for mayor. He has run the rebuilding of New Orleans into the ground. The conservatives supported his second candidacy because they hate the Landreau family more than they hate the Black Community. Mitch Landreau was running against Nagin.
The White House received the news via the air force of levee failure before anyone else in the country including fema. They knew the city was doomed and Bush continued his vacation.
The Army Corp of Engineers was sued in the mid 90’s by a construction company that had contracted to work on the levee system. The company discovered that the sheet piling was not deep enough and said that a water surge would wash under the levees. The corp won the suit because I guess a contract is more important that human beings.
Bush cut back on the rebuilding of the levees to fund his game over in Iraq.
I could go on but my stomach hurts. My parents lost their home in NOLA. My brother and sister are living in unbelievable stress.
The Human Rights Campaign sent me a letter the other day asking why I wasn’t giving them money anymore. Apparently, my previous letter about their support of anti-gay-equality Senator Joe Lieberman wasn’t clear enough. Any suggestions on what the next letter should say? I’m thinking about sending the old one back in all capital letters.
Click on my name to see composite photos of new orleans.

Oklahoma kiddo @ 53
enjoy. I think we all need to do a little bit of that tonight…
GSD @ 49
Darn it, you just upset my beautiful mind. Why make me think about such things. Don’t you realize those people should be grateful, because they are so much better of now.
Mary McCurnin @ 52
Wow, amazing! You are an art major and a computer wizard in the same person (enviously).
Thank you Mr. Alfred.
Mary McCurnin @ 52
Thank you so…
I’m gonna have to do it another time. It is already causing me grief.
I can’t believe this nation has fallen apart so completely. It is really insane.
Katrina wasn’t enough to fully wake up America and I don’t know if anything can.
-GSD
I so hate Lieberman, for he’s against embryonic stem cell research. If they, or one of theirs, suffered from a currently incurable ailment, they’d change their tune so fast, the world would spin a little faster.
I just lost my mother to an incurable, genetic disorder (CMT – charco marie tooth) this past Tuesday. She had hoped to live to see that there was a hope for at least treatment to alleviate the worst of the symptoms for her youngest daughter (my sister).
Here is the video from Thursday, where Keith Olbermann supports an invasion of the independent kingdom of Cheney. (Warning:Video contains a commercial)
“Vice-President Dick Cheney is a rogue nation. Despite the capture of his top lieuteneant, [Scooter Libby], Mr. Cheney continues to defy the rule of law.”
However, this is a rare case of Keith being wrong. The next day, Spokesperson Dana Perino claimed that “The vice-president is not an agency”. Using White House Documents, Keith discovered this statement was only partially true about Cheney. Not only is there no Cheneyland or Dept. of Cheney, Keith now says, “He’s no longer an entity of any kind.”
Mary McCurnin @ 52
Mary they are poignant and beautifully done.
EmptyWheel, as is par for the course, eagled the Eighteenth Hole! This is golden:
“We’re to believe, in spite of the record of Bush’s hundreds of signing statements, that BushCo doesn’t care about letting you know precisely how he understands a law.
Nut uh. It defies all logic to suggest that Bush’s expects his own EOs to achieve only “inferential” exactitude while he strives to insist on explicit descriptions of his interpretations elsewhere.”
Aloha, Firepups! Where’s that ‘Strict Constuctionist’ philosophy they so love to espouse??? TNH has been captivating today! It seems the Lake has been roiling as well!
I was shocked at the amount of animus toward New Orleans. I live in a suburb of Sacramento and I had people tell me New Orleans deserved what happened cause they are stupid to live below sea level. They didn’t have the facts and the live below a huge dam built by the corp.
LS @ 56
Hey! NO CHIMPY CHANNELING! not allowed here at the lake! (Zaps him with jane’s taser.)
Thanks LS.
Mary McCurnin @ 64
I have a cousin I have not spoken to since Katrina because she said “why didn’t all those people just get in their cars and leave?” I don’t miss her.
Mary McCurnin @ 64
Ask them if they think Sacramento “deserves” an earthquake.
Mary McCurnin @ 64
When I think of the attacks on people in New Orleans and then hear the same rightwing assholes talk about purple fingered Iraqis and amusement parks opening up in Iraq I become infuriated…..

All caps, and on dayglow paper, I think. Especially if you can get one of the colors that’s extremely high visibility. I favor Appleton Paper’s ‘Radiant Fluorescent’ in Strawberry or Orange, both of which – well, you could probably see a square yard of either one on the front side of the Moon, without a telescope.

New Orleans also had the longest generational history in the country. Some families had been there for almost 300 years. They are gone now.

Ya gotta check that Kentucky Windage, again!!! *g*
Mary McCurnin @ 76
The “investors” will just hang back, they’ve got time, and then…presto..a couple more years down the road…rich, white, neighborhoods…with parks and trendy restaurants …called “The Levee”…”Dine at the Nineth”….”Chez Floooood”…

I STILL have the taser, LS….:>
Alfred Kelgarries @ 79
Just try it again…I have..I have my mighty taser de-transponder at.. my.. service…

OWWW! Don’t have it anymore, Therapod just took it away from me on Jane’s orders. (grumble fuss)
Eureka Springs @ 11
Actually, CNN’s coverage was pretty good. But to make up for this, I saw Jolie in A Mighty Heart. Stunning movie, but don’t see it without a friend.
Mary McCurnin @ 76
Such a Travesty! I was going to remark on your prior comment, that it’s existed for eons! New Orleans has always played a prominent role in US History, and the Citizenry has always fought the elements to keep a vibrant city viable! The Brownie job after Katrina is a blight on our National Psyche!!!
Frank Probst @ 68
It won’t take an earthquake..the water control infrastructure is in poor shape, and over 2 million people live in the greater Sacramento area. IIRC about 2 billion dollars are needed to d the repairs..good luck with that..
LS @ 80
Yeah, I just pulled my tin-foil cap out from under the bed!!! :P

Enough fiber, and one can move mountains, VG.

darkblack @ 86
why, in the name of all that’s holy, do these comments ONLY appear while I am trying to eat? Why? why? why?
Steve @ 84
Worst-case scenario, maybe: major earthquake during a flood. Or when the reservoirs are full. (I’d prefer not having it happen. I have family in that area.)
Alfred, answered you downstairs, but short answer here: Idunno.
Alfred @ 87
Timing is everything!
CTuttle @ 85
Watch out, because Elliot was under the bed in the last thread, and Alfred and I got under too, because the economic news was really scary, but then Alfred yanked my hair, because he was trying to take up the only remaining room for me and my computer monitor to fit under there. I think he kicked Elliot too.
Mary McCurnin @ 76
I was amazed at the Final Jeopardy question the other evening: “This state had the largest population growth ever recorded, from July 2005 to July 2006″ The answer was “What is Texas?” Due to Katrina, of course. That is a diaspora like none in our history, and little’s been told about it. Half a million people moved to Texas.
P J Evans @ 88
My reply was, get the HR people at your firm to guide you through it and then talk to the provider’s people. Due to the weird HIPAA rules these days, failure to sign a single release form can doom your whole coverage package, I know people it has happened to (not me or mine, forunately). Contract renewals are favored cracks down which coverage can fall, never to be seen again……..
Frank Probst @ 68
Actually, large sections of Sacramento are in the flood plain, near the convergence of the Sacramento and American rivers. And they’ve complained about the feds not willing to share more of the costs of upgrading the levees.
LS @ 90
LS, you are a snitch! And it was only a little kick, and your hair got caught on my taser. neener.
Why does Lieberman make me feel nauseated?
He just has that gift. That laughter of his. The self satisfied, smug, everybody loves me because I am Joe chuckle makes my bile ducts churn.
Oh, I don’t like Joe alright.
Scarecrow @ 93
I heard that. I find that unbelievably alarming.

Alfred!!! The pizza under the bed was from LAST week. That might not be a good idea.
Well! I’m just on my way down to my watering hole to engage in another round of verbal combat with 2 of my tragically ignorant R team friends (I did wean them off of Mr. Ghoul…but that’s another story for another time)…and I flip the channel over to FDL only to see featured:
BENEDICT ARNOLD!!!! So, LiarMan, how’s tricks? Are you still every bit the piece of crap as you always were? I thought so. Start whining the name TOM ALLEN….he’s coming over the hill.
Mr. Jameson, blondes, and debates with several white-collar semi-lizard brains await. The sacrifices I make. Sigh. Best to all.

no, no, i’m working on the leftover takeout…yummy! (my daughters did gross-out contests with me when they were growing up. They NEVER won…(evil smile)!)
After Katrina we had several families come for help where I volunteer in GA. We opened our doors to them trying to assist with food, clothing, furniture, etc. Most were just waiting to go home. One elderly woman in particular was worried about finding a few things for her mom but all she took for herself was a Harry Connick CD. She just knew that they could return soon.. If Bush showed any compassion he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night. We know that’s not true.
CTuttle @ 102
yes, mommy. SHE started it.
My husband called me out to the front yard. There were 13 turkey chicks and 2 moms poking around the grass. Wally The Dog sure wanted to go out and take a lookie at them.
I took pics.
Thanks Loo Hoo!
Mary McCurnin @ 106
are you on FB (I think I got a friend req from you)? if so, post them! We all wanna see!
Alfred Kelgarries @ 103
Mr. LS eats leftover takeout too…shiver..shutter..hope it’s good though!! I’m a wimp. :)
Regardless of whether Obama’s your candidate, the man can GIVE A SPEECH:
“Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and faith started being used to drive us apart,” the Democratic presidential candidate said in a 30-minute speech before the national meeting of the United Church of Christ.
“Faith got hijacked, partly because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, all too eager to exploit what divides us,” the Illinois senator said.
“At every opportunity, they’ve told evangelical Christians that Democrats disrespect their values and dislike their church, while suggesting to the rest of the country that religious Americans care only about issues like abortion and gay marriage, school prayer and intelligent design,” according to an advance copy of his speech.
“There was even a time when the Christian Coalition determined that its number one legislative priority was tax cuts for the rich,” Obama said. “I don’t know what Bible they’re reading, but it doesn’t jibe with my version.”
Amen. Selah. Dam Straight. Word.

Alfred Kelgarries @ 112
Silly. I had chili with sour cream and chopped onions. Now I have heartburn, I think. But it was good.
Scarecrow @ 93 PaRTS of Sacremento might be designated flood plains but I’m not sure that the ninth ward was. Does anyone know?
Alfred Kelgarries @ 110
That could be a really important speech. The Republicans are practically declaring Fatwahs on each other, and the right is going to “educate” America on all the aspects of Mormonism. And CNN will be there to exploit it.
LS @ 114
pack of deli cold cuts from Sams club and Ozarka spring water, and avocados, right out of the shell. Chocolate cheesecake for desert, the nearly-frozen kind. I’ll live.

It’s a record title. I stole it. (trying to up my resume for a USA slot, since nobody else seems to want it. From the headhunter email I got, it seems Regency has a new online law course that will get you a law degree in six easy lessons, but you can only practice at the DOJ. Hmmmm….)
don’t make me stop this blog *putting hands on hips*
Most people actually still think that the ninth ward was a flood plain but it’s not. Many in the ninth ward didn’t have flood insurance because of the designation. Guess the people in Sacramento might have to rethink their arguments.
Suzanne @ 127
It’s really a water pistol, but OK. (grumps away to the ice machine, grumbling.)
Alfred Kelgarries @ 130
I’ll give Monica a call – all will be well, just don’t let the DAG know about it.

So not all hope is lost. And the american pharma giants are getting a mite tired of chimpy’s veto pen, IMHO..
does this show up?
You know what’s weird? I tried to embed a picture in comments, and it showed up in the preview but not after I submitted it.
Turkeys at dusk
Joe @ 139
Unfortunately, that option is not currently available in the comments section. How about a link to the picture instead?
Joe @ 138
NOW it does. you have to put some text after closing the first part of the link tag. otherwise there’s no screen cue to click on, even though the link is actually there.
Mary McCurnin @ 140
WOW — lookit all those turkeys!!
Alfred Kelgarries @ 113
I turn my back, for one moment, to peel the spuds, then, I turn back to see the bickering still going on! Don’t make me use my Drill Sergeant tone!!! *g*
OT
I have news for you, Jane.
(I love calculated risk, and I bet lots of others here would, too.)
Okay, I’ll try again:
some text for the link
JPL @ 132
Many in the ninth ward had owned the same houses for generations and couldn’t afford flood insurance. The houses were paid for. The people are now living in places like Oakland. A lot of black families migrated to the Bay Area during WWII to work in the ship yards. Many of their relatives from back home are living with or near them now.
Mary McCurnin @ 106
We need baby turkey pics, Mary! Put one on facebook?
Post-Katrina New Orleans death rate shoots up
~~~Death rates in New Orleans rose nearly 50 percent as the city began its recovery from Hurricane Katrina, in part because of storm-related damage to its public health facilities, researchers said on Thursday.
“The city lost half of its public health workers after Katrina so that compromises your ability to recover. The number of city employees went from 6,000 to 3,000,” Dr. Kevin Stephens, New Orleans Health Department director and the lead researcher, said in an interview.
“It is also difficult for hospitals to reopen after they are closed. And a lot of doctors lost their medical records, offices and equipment in the flooding,” Stephens said.~~~
Suzanne @ 122
AK made me pull my Tin-Foil Beret out from under the Bed! Lotta Tasing going on! It’s a mess Ma’am!!! Evening, Ma Cheri!!! 8-)
“…and wishes Ned Lamont had run against Angelina Jolie…”
Too good, Jane. :o) :o) :o)
I was thinkin’ maybe Nicole Kidman. :o)
BTW, everytime we put the richly deserved knock on Joe, in all the…nostalgia, let’s not forget who picked him for his running mate, back in 2000.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 137
Thanks Loo and Alfred.
That is good news. I could use some right now. Alzheimers is not a kind illness.
That’s still weird though, because when I preview the comment, the embedded picture actually displays, rather than showing up as a hyperlink.
Mary McCurnin @ 140
what a bunch of cuteys! I bet the dogs wanted to go have supper with them (they would be the supper, of course. glad you didn’t let them.)
Loo Hoo @154:
Gag you in regards to obama, the speech, religion in general, or my agreeing? All of the above?
There is now a brain drain in NOLA. People who can choose to leave are starting to. This is a huge deal for people so dedicated to a community.
I have wondered as well how it happened that candidiate Gore chose and promoted Joe? I have to think all that is disliked cannot be just because ” he has changed so much.” Why was he OK to be the choice.
To 60 above. I am so sorry for your loss. And your worry. What an insult that this stooge claims to be pro-life. I work with a number of Parkinson’s patients and rage inside that hopeful progress is being blocked because we will not cross some “moral line.” Thank you for sharing your mother’s hope.
