The military DID do their job. They got Baghdad, looked for WMD & found Saddam. That was their mission.

And remember that Bush and Condi opposed using the military for “nation-building”…so they never gave them the adequate trainingtools/troop levels to succeed

They didn’t even have a strategy to successfully rebuild Iraq.

This was a failure of BushCo. at so many levels that it is appalling.

The troops in the field did THEIR jobs. The failures occurred in the management of the actions by the Pentagon and civilian leadership.

Re: Bloomberg II:

On the other hand, from New York Observer today:

(snip)

“This is another trial balloon,” said Hank Sheinkopf, a Democratic consultant who worked on the Mayoral campaign of Mark Green in 2001. …

Comment: If Bloomberg does run, that will complicate things considerably for the Dems and the Repugs by putting the center in play.

The “center”? Where is the center today? All the Republicans say stay in Iraq and all the Dems say leave. Just where is the frickin’ center on that issue?

Oh wait, I forgot, it’s leave AND stay a la Hilary and a few others.

Sorry Mr. Bloomberg, the center is already occupied and there are some who occupy the complete political spectrum. Nope, Mr. Bloomberg will have to quadrangulate to get more ‘out there’ than Hilary.

Christy…

What is your opinion regarding the admission or lack of admission of the documents (daily briefings, etc) that the Libby team tried to have admitted. (appeal point 2)

The judge ruled (as I understand it) that the defense was not entitled to admit evidence regarding a state of mind if Libby was not going to also testify to said state of mind.

Now this logic seems stable to me… but why then was prosecution allowed to submit the newpaper articles about Joe Wilson as proof that Libby was thinking about Wilson (and by implication Plame).

Certainly the prosecution was no more able to establish state of mind without testimony than the defense would be. Or why am I wrong?

lights out follow up:riding home on the train with my wife yesterday, i saw richard cohen’s column in the ny daily news (mets showing a pulse, thank you)…i tried to show her the ‘lights out’ quote, but it wasn’t in the version of the column run by the news. censored by the daily news? censored by the syndicator? the signature quote of non-journalism, and many readers will never see it.

ps. a book called “Them” by Jon Ronson has a chapter on a ‘woodsy camp’ for very elite international figures. Granted, the book seemed less than credible- actually pretty poor. Anyway, I’m wondering if this is the same camp Rove perportedly went to a couple weeks ago and if this ties to Cooper’s propensity for leisure in the nude… The author claims he sneaked into this camp, although, as in the entire book, the lack of detail begs implausibility. (A friend who flies a lot loaned the book to me or I would not have noticed it.)
On the tail, here, no one will likely notice, oh well.

Lights Out Cohen is getting a bit testy on his live blog justifying his article yesterday. Once again the blogosphere is skewering him with tough questions. His long winded answers seem to be getting shorter and shorter.

nolo at 130 — I don’t think we should be in the business of trying to shut down someone else’s website. That is a two-way street and, frankly, I wouldn’t want someone trying to shut down FDL out of spite, either.

understood.

that is not my intent, as i

I’ve read concerns that Bloomburg could be a spoiler for 2008 to get the independent vote away from the dems.

Why is it no one worries that he’d take sane Republicans away from the GOP?

The last sane Republican we had was Abe Lincoln, and a lot of people thought he was nuts. More accurately, he was most likely bipolar.
