Tonight, I’m exercising my ABBA option.
This just came over the transom and I had to share it. I’d like to apologize in advance for the fact that you’ll still be singing this song on Saturday afternoon, driving your family insane, just spontaneously erupting, “The history book on the shelf!/Is alway repeating itseeeeeeeelf!/WATERLOO!!” and dancing around the room.
Come on, everybody sing! WHOA-oh-oh-oh, etc., etc.

TRex, I think you will like this. Bush idiocy.
Oldest girl luuuves Abba. I would hear it over and over and over… luckily many years have passed and it is now palatable.
nice happy dance, alias
I went through a particularly egregious ABBA phase. Then I turned 13 and started listening to Soft Cell and Blondie. As an adult, I’ve never been able to give in to the ABBA hip cool irony thing. Too many painful memories of puberty.
Wow… they even got somebody with Condiesque teeth. That’s good casting.
Awesome Video, TRex!!!
Night, everyone. The best of all possible tomorrows to you.
Suzanne @ 10
And she survived to her 30th birthday? I commend you. That is truly formidable restraint on your part.

For me, it brings back memories of a great time as an exchange student in Germany. The friends, the beer, the dancing . . . priceless.
TRex, her dad took her to see the musical (i forget the name but it features ABBA songs) – twas the day ABBA returned to her playlist.
I practiced considerable restraint, yes. Was easier than with baby girl’s love of hiphop and gangsta rap (she was going through the worst music phase ever)
Suzanne @ 21
I think it’s called Mama! Mia!
Suzanne @ 22
That is worse. Much, MUCH worse.
I am in Mexico a few months every winter.
I go to a funky restaurant in a relatively small town that serves “continental” cuisine…lasagna, thai coconut shrimp, shepard’s pie, etc. It has the best blasted pork tacos (with pine nuts) on the face of the planet.
It only plays ABBA as background music. I was shocked to find out that I could sing along with every song had I wanted to. Even more shocked to find out my husband LOVED them.
Suzanne @ 21
Suz, Mamma Mia is the name of the musical.
Suzanne @ 22
Oh gods. My younger brother never grew out of that phase. That’s one of the few genre of music i really have no taste for whatsoever. There’s only a couple of artists in it that are even worth listening to, and none of them record much today. (i’m 29, the younger bro is now 24)
I really loved the ABBA videos, the girls dressed so . . .’70s, if ya know what I mean.
Suzanne @ 22
I was born too soon. All I had to rebel with was jazz and early RR/RB/B. My mom and dad did classical, but dad loved jazz too, and mom thought RB would be the next wave after the crooners. GHOD I’m dating myself.
Question is: how did you deal with all the negatives of HH/GR? Fortunately my kids were adults when that genre appeared (mom used to love telling her friends “tell them it is just african and aboriginal tribal chanting with electronics and urban metaphors” and playing some old recordings of same to prove it!) and my grandkids don’t seem interested (they’re into emo and thirteen other cool names totally undechipherable to anyone over the age of 12).
DrDick @ 24
I must concur, fortunately, my son hasn’t taken a liking to that rubbish, like his two older sisters, gahhh, I certainly empathize with that scenario!!!
only abba song i know is dancing queen i think they made it..?
me – i love old school rap indeed
CTuttle @ 30
Fortunately, my son did not get a taste for it until after he left home and even now does not listen to much of it.
Stem Cell Research
Wash. Post article on Bush stem cell plan ignored scientists’ support for bill Bush vetoed
In a June 20 article, The Washington Post reported that President Bush, upon vetoing a bill to expand federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, “plans to issue an executive order today to encourage government agencies to support research that offers the promise of creating medically useful stem cells without destroying human embryos.” But the article did not report — as the Post itself did on June 7 — that some of the scientists involved in one of the research methods Bush is touting as an alternative to embryonic stem cell research have themselves called for passage of the bill Bush just vetoed, which, as the Post reported on June 7, “would give federally funded researchers access to embryos slated for destruction at fertility clinics.” Read more
Abba sucks, in both directions. Sorry, it had to be said.
I hear quite a bit of (mostly jazzy and/or trancy) hip-hop via punaise jr. and I like much of it. the lyrics on occasion do give pause, however…
I’ll refrain from expressing my Abba opinions.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 29
I tried to get my brother interested in movies other than those affiliated with the Gangsta Rap/HipHop culture, and a few bands. The fact that he’s ‘borrowed’ a few of my CDs that are nowhere close to those genre means i made some type of influence. He just couldn’t get it totally out of his system. He STILL loves it. *facepalms*
I was the cool big sister that took him to all the neat movies and such. Even if i was a bookworm mosta the time, i wouldn’t miss the flicks i thought worth watching. He’d get dragged along if i thought he could be interested in it. (and usually i could get him to be)
Reminder, folks, that the servers will be upgraded around midnight PDT and down for about 10 minutes.
punaise @ 36
My son listens to the same stuff. Cass likes country ONLY. Never anything else.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 29
I am trying to head off my girls’ fondness for HH, Rap & GR by introducing them to The Original Gangsta

My older son went through a Christian music phase. I was relieved when he switched to rap.
‘20 inch blades, on the Impala…’
Now he listens to music from all over, like Yoko Kanno.
Time for me to turn in. Need some sleep.
gotta love a tribe called qwest – queen latifah – eric b and rakim – public enemy hmmm and on and on ;o)
(peeks around edge of door. ABBA! Winces, sticks fingers in ears and beats a hasty retreat.)
Night Aunt Betsy. Sleep long and well.
I love digital media. And TRex’s posts ;-)
I hope whoever put this genius “Waterloo” mash together will consider a digital remix of today’s pontificating by Brit Hume, Krauthammer, and Mara Elison about the Great Political Significance of the Netroots: http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..-the-year/ “Mamma Mia (There You Go Again)” might be a good track for that clip…?

Thanks for the comments, all. Glad it’s stirring some memories. Only fitting that it makes you nostalgic and uncomfortable at the same time. Please keep passing it on. I have a record to break from my last YouTube vid:

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.
Tell him yoko kanno does a lot of the vocals on Ghost In The Shell anime. It is on Cartoon Network and their latest movie was just screened on SciFi Channel and will soon be available on DVD. He can even get the soundtrack with YK’s vocals at Amazon.

Sleep well, TexB. See you tomorrow, if we don’t all wash away…
juslin @ 44
Juslin, THOSE are the good ones. It’s a lot of the newer ones that drive me up the wall. Too much glam, and not enough substance in the lyrics. One other i like is De La Soul. And if you want a geek rapper? Deltron 4040 XD
Petro, you’d better be done with your book in time for our next Marley Fest!!! *g*
GASP!
She…she…what?
My god, my god. Where did we fail her? The poor dear…

No. I’ve also lost contact because the fool has decided he’s no longer family with us. (part of the never GREW out of that shit phase)
I remember hearing something about it but never looked into it. I take it that it’s worth it? *gins*
Sorry AK,
I wish i did. I could probably find them though if i looked in the right places. One advantage of the convention circuit and having asian friends? Is the ability to find something old school like that.
I’ll look around for ya.

Is it contagious? I also like country, but I’m somewhat eclectic– I like acoustic string music of many kinds: country, bluegrass, folk, ragtime, etc. — and Klezmer! :-)
Most of the electric music posted here doesn’t interest me, although I loved the Beatles and a lot of Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, any band that Linda Ronstadt sang with, all of Emmylou Harris from her early days with Graham Parsons up to but not including her Flyboy phase, and classic rock like that (which is sometimes considered country now.)

Oh believe me, i know of the real old school stuff too. *grins* I could call that the 80s gen stuff though. or something. I don’t think they really have a term for the various periods of anime over here. All i know is that i don’t like being called Otaku becuase i know the true connotations of that word. I’m a fangirl, plain and simple. (and i’m old school compared to some of the kids at conventions at 29! my god the little teeny idiots! )

one of my grandsons likes 50 Cent but he also likes Matisyahu and girlie bubble gum music. the other grandson is a writer/song writer. he’s 19 and moved out of the house and dyed his hair blue. his mom is really nervous about this. i’m taking a wait and see approach and not giving any advice ….
ABBA! In other ABBA-related news, there are now plans to open an ABBA museum in Stockholm -an interactive one where you can record your own ABBA music videos (and yes – you´ll get to wear costumes…). I´ll let you know when it´s open for business!
aliasofwestgate @ 65
Yep, I’m into yoga/meditation, so I saw the film as being very educational for this upcoming generation … how their choices can lead to tragedies like the Holocaust and enabling those who commit such heinous crimes …
I don’t know if it got people talking in America as it tried to do, but I would show it in every urban school in America if I could.
…not to sound like a kiljoy but…the motion for Libby’s appeal was filed with a retrograde Mercury at 11* Cancer. No one in astrological circles would ever do such a stupid thing…it is a recipe for failure. Never file papers, initiate legal proceedings, take apart your computer, get married, book reservations for your vacation or start anything of any inportance during a retrograde mercury. Just not a good idea. His attorneys will no doubt hear on and after the 10th of July that the appeal has been denied.

some people here don’t like ABBA.
they were very good at what they did and made a huge pile of money. they never said they were cutting edge or radical or “alternative”. they didn’t try to act cool. nobody took them seriously but they were mindless fun. like the scandinavians often do, they also indulged in a bit of spoof and mild irony.
I certainly hope, CT and Petrocelli, that ya’ll are talking about the tropical orchids. (eyebrows arched)

Reggae Got Soul. I’m gonna go check Amazon.
Suzanne @ 110
I can’t even tell which column is the artists and which is the song titles.
Suzanne @ 110
I’ll vouch for De La Soul (and Digable Planets and Pharcyde)
hey, patrick! good stuff…
…who are all those “artists” ? where have we all been?
Suzanne @ 110
Don’t worry Ma’am, my eldest only recognized half of the ‘artists’ on pun jr’s list!!! I recognized one!!!
Hey Patrex, besides tired, how ya been? How was the gig?
TheOtherWA @ 115
Doh!!! Bwhahaha… I’m with ya on that!!!
Excellent, one of the best clips I’ve seen….
Great ending too—-
Thanks—-
Someone with me also vouches for Del the Funky Homosapien.
Las Orishas es un grupo de rap de Cuba, y muy bueno.
I can’t hear them without craving black beans and yuca frita, though. There was a Cuban place in Chicago that played them ALL THE TIME when we were there.
Good times.

Busy. I’m always busy. My wife’s theatre company is hauling in rave reviews for her staging of ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ and I wrote all the music for it.
The studio is busy. My band is playing lots of shows. Busy, busy.
I may have some very big news brewing. Nothing I can talk about yet, but I may be visiting some firepups here in the next few weeks. I’ll keep everyone posted.
spiderpaws @ 111

How’s it goin’, eh?
Dover Bitch @ 123
I’ll vouch for Pharcyde, beyond that, you’re on your own!!! 8-)
CTuttle @ 129
De La Soul is great.
Oh, and the gig kind of sucked, Suzanne. Last weekend I used a different brand of sticks, with a different, higher friction finish on them. This raised a massive blister on my right thumb, which burst, and another blister came up under that, and then also burst. Then, the next day the skin underneath split while I was playing, because it’s too new and not flexible yet.
There are more details, but I’ll spare you. It stings a little and it makes it VERY hard to control the stick in my right hand.
punaise @ 109
The kid’s got good taste, Punaise. Good on him. Looks like he plays in the electronica areas. He’s got a bit of acid jazz in there too, then hops over to rap for a couple of the more interesting artists Del the Funky Homosapien is probably one of the geekiest rappiers out there. (he was the rapper on the Gorillaz first album) He has an actual vocabulary and uses it profusely in that amazing voice of his. There’s reason i hunt down his stuff.
Petrocelli @ 128
Not too bad, y’know. I should be sleeping. I have a meeting in six hours…
Kind of wish we had Tim Hortons here right now. I could go for a Timmyho’s sour cream donut right about now.
The Abba video was one of the oddest things I’ve ever seen. It was well done, and started out quite funny but was rather serious by the end.
Thanks for posting it, Trex. And I forgive you for the earworm. :)
I countered baby girl’s love of Slim Shady and 2Pac with the Rat Pack. Her Ipod list is a strange mix of blues, classic rock, hip hop, christian rock, country and rat pack.

… now it all seems like gratuitous sex/violence … or am I getting old?
Petrocelli @ 139
How far are you from Buffalo?
That’s the only hint I can give as to what’s brewing (possibly) for me. I haven’t been to Canada since I left five-eight. Loved it when I was there, though. I especially loved the ready availability of coffee and donuts in Toronto. There was also a kickass mil surplus place on Queen Street where I bought a mountain if gear….

Ooh, Tim Horton’s, better than Krispy Kreme’s and Dunkin Donuts combined! And, the Java is great too!!!

Hey PatrickRex, when B-52’s play their gig up here, why dontcha come on up … we can organize an “FDL Toronto Chapter” soiree !!!
Loo Hoo. @ 114
Talk about OhMyStars, the cheapest used CD I could find is $50. New ones start at $100 and go to $300. Shezam!
Petrocelli. I’m 29 and i feel old for respecting those same artists you named. They WERE artists, they knew what they were making and the personal meaning it had. I can’t stand the new class. I think the only gangsta rapper i like is Dr Dre, and that’s because he’s actually a damned good producer. He has actuall
skill.
The gratitious sex/violence crap is what irritates me about the new class too. HipHop used to be about having fun, being free…
Petrocelli @ 148
Nah. I think it’s because he’s an old drunk.
;-)
Don’t get me wrong, because I love The Stones, but drinking at breakfast is one of those Signs That You Might Have a Little Problem.
That and seeing vaginas in onion rings.
Petrocelli…here you are getting things organized in a physical way, smoothing the path for information to get out unhampered. Whether you are male or female, you are almost… a royal, shall we say, overseeing the minions to take care of the physical world. the german word comes to mind -Weltschmerz …on your own, loving it and hating it. you like god – very much… in fact you …are god??? no, no, no…where was I? best to stay light, like a hippie as much as you can and let a day drift by now and then without giving orders, you are so good at that tho…you can write too. working very hard

Unfortunately, when the B’s left the studio a month ago, my formal relationship with them ended, and now I just get the occasional email from Sterling, the drummer.
They’re awfully busy right now, I know that much.
No, what’s brewing right now is…. another thing entirely.
And my involvement unfortunately hinges on the personal tragedy of another drummer, so I am a little hesitant to put too much emotional energy into hoping I will get the gig.
But it might be a big deal.
I have already said too much.

hey Eureka, the contemporary French music scene is a pretty barren wasteland, so Les NV stick out…
Loo Hoo. @ 180
Thanks Loo Hoo, but I’m not the kinda guy who lies about my age … I am 147 … !!! *g*
SteveAudio @ 179
Daniel, who is the owner of the studio, is really digging it. He and I have such different taste, I have no idea how I’ll feel about it when I sit down at the desk and fire it up.
I am trying to get away from making “everything louder than everything else” the way a lot of records sound these days.
Daniel is a HUGE Andy Wallace fan.
Me? I like warm records with overheads and dynamics.
Call me crazy.
Yes punaise, they are just so festive..)
Loo Hoo. @ 180
You’re kidding me, right? He feels older, but then it may be the meditation aspect. I never really grew up per se. Which is why i get mistaken for younger half the time at work. *evil grin* I’m a free spirit compared to some of the people i’ve worked with.
petrocellie…to share or not to share, that is the question…
I’ll be on Facebook until the FDL server comes back up … see you there !!!
patrick @ 186
No, call you musical, dammit!
After the excellent commentary by Glenn Greenwald, Christy, Bob
Somerby, Phoenix Woman, and others, I shouldn’t write anything about
Richard Cohen’s barfucious WaPo op-ed of Tuesday morning. But …
At the 1999 dedication ceremony for the George Bush Center for
Intelligence, former president George H.W. Bush stated:
When Valerie Plame Wilson was exposed as a covert operative working to
counter the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the CIA asked the DOJ to
conduct a criminal investigation. The DOJ tasked FBI to investigate, and
then appointed a Special Prosecutor. And, President George W. Bush
promised to fire anyone involved in the leak. Serious business!
But, WaPo pundit Richard Cohen thinks that leaking the names of CIA
operatives is “run-of-the-mill,” not a crime, obstructing an
investigation the possibility of such a crime doesn’t warrant a
guideline sentence, and doesn’t warrant such an investigation in the
first place.
And, he has regurgitated these RNC talking points so often he can now
cram them all into 35 words. If brevity were the soul of wit, Richard
Cohen would be the funniest man alive. But he’s not at all funny.
To Cohen, these and similar RNC talking points are conditioned
reflexes. Neither reality nor refutation will pull him off message.
He’s a neocon warrior and a sociopath. He’s not a person of good
will; otherwise, the tenth or twenthieth time someone refuted these
talking points, he’d defend them or STFU.
Bob Schacht @ 182
I gotta find some of this stuff…

LOL.
Servers are going down soon, and so am I!
You folks are the best. Rest well!

I started a new topic at FDL Facebook, in case anyone jumps over there.
Thanks, Steve. I’m wondering if they pulled it off without us even noticing. Of course, as soon as I say that…
Steve, how do you get to FDL facebook? I’m on facebook, but…
Loo Hoo. @ 226
Good question, since I was invited. Can you search groups for firedoglake?
Loohoo, go to my page, click on FIREDOGLAKE group (if you haven’t joined that group already) and then to discussion
Suzanne @ 220
The translation is already done?
Sorry Suz, I’m not following you … I’ll wait until the updates are complete.
Petro, I emailed spidey your email – she was unable to deciper the spamproofing.
One can join the FireDogLake group without an invitation. I just clicked on join this group, iirc.
Thanks everyone. I MUST go to sleep now.

Petrocelli @ 236
Boy … I left myself wide open that time … I hope CTuttle doesn’t see that … *g*
TRex, you’re the greatest. The video was perfect for smiling broadly before heading to bed. I’ll watch again the AM to start the day off correctly (not Right).

No further comment needed, is there?
I’m thinking the tech crew was so smooth we did not even notice the change.
I am unstrapping my seat belt, climbing down from the mod tower and bidding ya’ll a good evening.
CTuttle @ 240
One of the first “grown up” books I read was Catch 22, and when M*A*S*H came on TV, I watched every episode diligently …

Petrocelli @ 243
Excellent book, however, mine was ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ by Heinlein, still my favorite writer, RIP! I do like my SciFi!!!
CTuttle @ 247
I liked Sci Fi movies, but couldn’t read Sci Fi books … I loved Louis L’Amour and other Westerns.
Petro did you see 223?
CTuttle @ 247
I read nothing but SciFi for years, starting in the ’50s, but eventually burned out. And Heinlein was such a lech that after High School or so, he started creeping me out. And just too libertarian in re: government.
Still, he told a helluva story.
TribeScribe @ 249
Thanks for pointing it out, I was trying to open facebook and missed it … year – 1966 … not sure about other question …
Petrocelli @ 248
Not bad, I’ve read quite a few of his, one thing for certain, I’d rather read the book than watch the movie! I can’t remember a time where I’ve read the book and wasn’t disappointed with the subsequent movie! I did like the Lord of the Rings movies, but still felt saddened with what was left out!!!
SteveAudio @ 250
I agree with you on that, Steve, as I’ve matured, I’ve pondered some of his views he expressed!
CTuttle @ 252
Agreed, L’Amour movies were … lacking …
I loved LOTR, although I felt the last hour of the third movie dragged quite a bit …
The Firm was a pretty good attempt, no?
Petrocelli @ 254
True, I guess Grisham translates better to film than most, Pelican Brief, etal, have been adequately portrayed, yet, still lacking!!!
SteveAudio @ 250
I’m also chatting with ya on facebook …
Petrocelli @ 256
Bah humbug! I’d rather chat here than there!
Petro, you want i should email you a few notes?
it’s way cool :)
CTuttle @ 255
I thought Pelican Brief was disappointing … The Rainmaker was really good … Jurassic Park too …
TribeScribe @ 258
k sure – indrs at hotmail dot com
CTuttle @ 257
Agreed, I was just replying to SteveAudio at facebook.
Petrocelli @ 259
I had watched Pelican Brief before reading it, I liked the book better, I never read the Jurassic books, saw the movies, so I can’t really comment on the difference!
Soldier in Iraq Resists the Occupation
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/23812
Submitted by davidswanson on Wed, 2007-06-20 21:40. Nonviolent Resistance
On June 19, 26 year old SPC Eli Israel put himself at great personal risk by making the courageous decision to refuse further participation in the U.S. occupation of Iraq. Eli told his commanding officer and sergeants that he will no longer be a combatant in this illegal, unjustified war. Eli believes that the U.S. government used the attacks of September 11, 2001 as a pretense to invade Iraq and that “we are now violating the people of this country (Iraq) in ways that we would never accept on our own soil.” Eli is stationed at Camp Victory in Baghdad with JVB Bravo Company, 1-149 Infantry of the Kentucky Army National Guard. This soldier’s decision to refuse orders puts him at great risk, especially because he is in Iraq, isolated from legal assistance and other support. The following is a message that Eli sent yesterday to a friend back home:
“I have told them that I will no longer play a ‘combat role’ in this conflict or ‘protect corporate representatives,’ and they have taken this as ‘violating a direct order.’ I may be in jail or worse in the next 24 hours.
Please rally whoever you can, call whoever you can, bring as much attention to this as you can. I have no doubt that the military will bury me and hide the whole situation if they can. I’m in big trouble. I’m in the middle of Iraq, surrounded by people who are not on my side. Please help me. Please contact whoever you can, and tell them who I am, so I don’t ‘disappear.’”
Eli is taking an incredible risk by refusing orders in Iraq and will most likely be court martialed. Please help him by contacting his Senator and requesting that he take any steps necessary to support and protect this soldier and ensure that the Army respects his rights and does not illegally retaliate against him.

Was there a vid of Curbing the Imperial Presidency from TBA?
The birds are chripin on this cool Geogria mornin.
Good Morning, Firepups [waves to raven]
It’s cool and clear here in central Jersey. Mr. NJP and I saw the shuttle and the space station zip across the cloudless sky last night, just as it was getting dark.
There’s a big pitcher of iced coffee in the fridge. I’m heading out for bagels this morning.
Work for peace, every day.
Hey T,
It’s morning now, I hope you will see this comment.
I enjoyed “Waterloo”. I could understand some of the lyrics. Most Utube lyics are completely lost for me.
My 72 year old ears have not been able to catch popular song lyrics for a long time now. The instrumental buries the vocal for me.
Up to now it didn’t seem important beyond the loss to me and others of the enjoyment of the music itself.
Now it IS IMPORTANT. Because I couldn’t hear it, I didn’t realize that popular music is quite political.
NOW there is so much that is important that is coming on utube and related vocal media via the liberal blogs and other toobs.
I don’t want other older folks as well as the hearing impaired to miss out on this. We need us ALL in this progressive chance we now have before us.
Is there some way we could have subtitles?
Thanks,
Joel Mael
morning! – big hearing day today:
12 pm – House Judiciary – Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law
Hearing on: The Continuing Investigation into the U.S. Attorneys Controversy and Related Matters
Witness: Paul McNulty
2 pm – Senate Judiciary
To hold an oversight hearing to examine the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice.
more here.
Good morning, pups. Today in the NYT Timothy Egan says Republicans are losing the American West, where people want a rational middle ground on immigration rather than foaming xenophobia, and Nicholas Kristof again directs our attention to eastern Congo.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffee and tea are ready, along with a selection of muffins. Have a wonderful day.
Good morning, pups. Forgive me if this is a repeat, but my first attempt seems to have been swallowed by the cybertoobz or is in moderation for some bizarre reason. The NYT has Egan and Kristof.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
Help yourselves to coffee, tea and muffins, and have a lovely day.
Good morning!
Financial tip for the day: Never invest in something that has
both “High Grade” and “Enhanced” in its name.
Mornin’ all!
Scarborough saying leftwing Dems booing Hillary’s support of the troops. Going on a nasty screed. As for me, I’m going to puke now.
Personal observation:
The (anti) immigration (immigrant) issue plays strongest the furthest from actual contact with recent immigrants.
This is not an absolute.
Xenophobia thrives in close proximity, but the actual desire to see ‘them all deported tommorow’ in general plays best where you cannot see the families.
Personal example:
I live in a community with a large number of recent Polish immigrants.
The mesh is far from seamless.
I do not appreciate the drunk cousins/friends who reside short term in one particular house up the block.
Some of my neighbors’ difficulty in communicating may be due to lack of a common language, some may be due to plain surliness.
I don’t know.
But they are a family, doing their best to fix up a disastrous property and raise their kids.
My own problems (and theirs) dealing with differences have no place in the debate.
Working through those issues is how this country became great.
Now Ingrahm chiming in with Scarborough.
Good mornin’, CNN!!!!!
joel mael @ 274
Joel,
Go to late, late nite last Friday night. Comment #266 had a link for captioning. Haven’t done anything with it yet. Waiting to show it to my son who’s more tech-savvy. But it should help. If not, ask your question again. There are geniuses here at FDL. *g*
Prairie Sunshine @ 279
Is that a wingnut welfare queen convention or what?
Prairie Sunshine @ 281
Did you hear him mock Jimmy Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize. We’ve got a Steve Doocy wannabe on MSNBC. I think he’s trying to be a shock-jock. And they have someone very weak presenting our side. What a shame. I miss Imus.
Is Joe trying to hurt Hilary in the polls by talking about her most unpopular postion? He can’t expect the 30%ers to be won over to Hilary by attacking US Lefties. However if Hilary starts sinking in the polls because of this issue then where does that leave the Republican Presidential candidates who are almost all prowar. If Hilary’s (cough) moderate postion hurts her then the Republicans if they want to have any chance of wining at all will have to abandone Bush. Who will be the first to realize this or are they all going to go down with the ship? When are we going to see some ratings about how well Joe is doing at trying to replace Imus? I just can’t see him doing well in his new job.
What I really don’t get is what audience is Joe trying for? The Fox News audience? My daughter watches CNN in the morn. But is disgusted with John Roberts (truly a less than brilliant person). Way back, I kept trying to get her to watch Imus. He advanced many progressive causes. And NEVER blew smoke. He may have been an ass but he never lied. She wouldn’t watch him. I get that. But now, I may not turn on the TV in the morn.
Time to shower. See everyone at noon.
Washington Journal caller on the ‘Democrat line’ is a life-long Democrat, hates Bill Clinton and wants Bloomburg to run. The only Republican she likes is Mitt Romney.
Hi Everyone, Alfred K recommended that we download the latest patches for our browsers. I did it and now my ability to scroll using my finger on the touchpad has been taken away. I downloaded Firefox 2.0 onto a PC using Vista. Any ideas?

Too frivolous for Scarecrow’s column, but I gotta note here.
John Roberts must be the Ted Baxter hire at CNN.
Brilliant! Thank you for passing it on despite the inherent risk.
Hip-hop / Rap / Gangsta Rap is our generation’s protest music. I would wager that a good amount of your parents did not appreciate rock and roll, despite living through it’s golden age. What I wouldn’t give to see Janis or Jimi live.
My mom loves it, btw (Age 59). Just don’t take it too seriously.
Love the song! We can now sing the song now that Libby lost in the U.S. Court of Appeal filed yesterday. Scooter is heading to the slammer!
