Stuff that needs to be discussed, but which I’m too lazy to treat in separate posts (or which others have dealt with better than I ever could):
– Some church ministers are claiming that the hate-crimes bill currently before the Senate will somehow “muzzle” them. Jim Burroway of Box Turtle Bulletin has posted the text of the legislation in its entirety and dared anyone to show where the “muzzling” language is in it. So far, he’s had no takers.
– Mitt Romney doesn’t believe in states’ rights when states use those rights to extend rights to people. (Then again, most of his fellow conservatives feel the same way about states’ rights.)
– Knock, knock. Who’s there? Rula. Rula who? Rula LAW, that’s who. Hi, George. Hi, Karl.
– Real wage gains: They were nice while they lasted. (And they didn’t last long.)
– Former CIA officers to Republican National Committee chair Mel Martinez: Kindly tell your people to stop trashing Judge Walton and Patrick Fitzgerald, or go on record as favoring the destruction of America’s painstakingly-constructed intelligence networks in fits of partisan political pique.

Yupper. Can’t get rid of me! Heheheheheh.
Sic ‘em PW!!!!!!
Bush, Cheney, Rove, Gonzales, Rice, Rumsfeld and others are crooks. What you do about that, I haven’t a clue.
I would love for Valerie to visit Scooter when he’s behind bars with no witnesses.
That’s Rule O’Law to you. :)
Lordie….Lordie My quite prayers are being heard’ back to prayer.
But a state has rights as long as they are right rights, right?
I just got off the phone with my Aunty. This old girl is upset. She’s mad a her party. The Democratic party. Oh boy am I going to get an ear full tonight when I go over there. I’ll be lucky to get to bed before two. I’ll take her some chocolate. This lady is so rad.
excellent, apt, apposite compilation…

Heh!
If and when Bush/Cheney are inpeached for treason and or corruption why is it legal or appropriate for the tools placed in judicial lifetime positions by them to remain?
Eureka Springs @ 8
we got left out.
Mary McCurnin @ 12
Sadly, they’d have to be impeached one at a time, since, theoretically, they were confirmed with the
advice and consent of theSenate rolling over and playing dead.Me?
Well, if i can’t have Rula Law, Rula Lenska’s just a year younger than I.
Before I vanish ectoplasmically back into the land of work, I’d like to offer a small comment to the members of the Lake who are, most understandably, concerned about AG’s seeming “taunting” with the internal review system and so forth.
1) They can’t even FILL THE EMPTY USA SLOTS OVER AT THAT CLUSTERFRAK! The temps filling in are such losers that judges are beginning to toss cases without bothering to even set them up, their work is so sloppy (will find linky on that one, was in LA and MI IIRC).
2) The obvious purpose of these little reviews is political intimidation. BUT…..THESE POSITIONS WILL FROM NOW ON BE FILLED BY SENATORIAL APPROVAL. Firing someone from a job who was put there BY THE SENATE isn’t such an easy deal particularly in the current environment. So these “reviews” have no real effect on anyone. All they do is sound tough on the MSM. Gee, where have we seen that before?
3) I have been a political junkie all my life. I told my dad and my wife that Watergate would get Nixon IN 1973, when it was a flatulation in a hurricane. I still say that Leahy, Waxman, Conyers and Pelosi are four killer wolverines on the scent, and there are litterally tens of thousands of judges, lawyers, representatives at the state and local level, military officers of all ranks, diplomats, statesmen, the whole nine yards who are just waiting for them to say, very quietly. “we are moving to impeach Richard Cheney and George W. Bush for high crimes and misdemeanors.” There will be months of buildup, slow but lethally certain, to get the public ready for this. They will get a case so rock solid that it couldn’t be destroyed with a pony nuke. And in all likelihood they’ll ask patrick fitzgerald to prosecute it or otherwise support the effort, and I susepect he will. The evidence will come out so fully, so completely, as the poop avalanche Darth and Chimpy have stored up for themselves comes crashing down on them, that even the most reactionary rethug will have to vote impeach and convict.
THAT is what Pelosi and Reid are going for. By continually giving in when it doesn’t matter, by continually saying “impeachment is off the table”, by ignoring lesser fish like Abu or Poopflower, P and R are setting up the required background that their call for imp and trial isn’t a crass political stunt but a terrible necessity brought on by the HC MD of D and C.
I’ve watched this happen in a lesser scale before, and studied lesser versions of it before I was taking an interest (I was around for McCarthy but was MUCH more interested in cars and girls and sand table wargames (with lead minatures imported from england) that in that idiot McCarthy). Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid know what they are doing. And when I look in their eyes, particularly Ms. Pelosi’s eyes, I see a look that I saw sometimes in the eyes of an officer who had just lost too many men to a corrupt defense contractor’s shoddy equipment and who was going to devote the rest of his life to nailing that b*st*rd within the system. And they almost always did.
Back to work…
Hey, Pheonix Woman,
Found a spare 20 minutes to visit Pelosi’s “Gavel.” Thanks for the tip!
Got to head out to a monthly board meeting, where we’ve got lots of new things to talk about. Like state Rep. Vic Kohring, one of our main detractor’s inability to talk right before he’s supposed to tell his constituents the truth about why he’s been indicted by the Feds for political corruption, and about why the governor fired the entire Alaska State Farm Board over the weekend.
Later.
How many hundreds of people are we talking about? Can you impeach SC justices?
I am having one of those days where the emotions are glued to the ceiling. Hi Anxiety.

“Differences of opinion should be tolerated, but not when they are too different. Then you become a subversive mutha.” – Miss America in Bananas, starring Woody Allen.
That is my hope, Alfred K.
Alfred K,
What you are saying rings true to me.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 16
Gosh, I hope your right as do all the pups
Speaking for myself only, I’m going to work toward helping to get Gore in the White House.
Mary McCurnin @ 18
You can impeach anyone who was confirmed by the Senate, I think, including SCOTUS Justices.
But you need 67 Senators to do it, and that isn’t going to happen.
There’s a lotta stuff about Mel Martinez on wiki that I did not know.
I’m underwhelmed, to say the least.
Now that Tony Snow has joined the “we were never about ’stay the course’” group of those who forget their briefings are videotaped . . . what a hoot to watch him contradict himself, courtesy of The Daily Show, regarding the attorney firings.
would that I could link it. The old-fashioned way would be to go to comedy central dot com and click on the Jon Stewart picture (from Friday’s program); I can’t wait to watch tonight’s episode. Plus I missed early Countdown; full night ahead.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 16
Yupper. I’ve heard that, too.
Oh, yes. Conyers and Waxman are old-school liberal Democrats of the tenacious variety. They talk politely but firmly and they never, ever give up.
the dang lead horses were too delicate to ‘play’ with…i always felt a slight sense of betrayal when i’d break off the front leg of a hussar’s charger…to my grandfather, who’d spent a tidy sum on ‘em…
that aside, that was a tonic…i hope you’re even 50% right…
but i’ve hoped in one hand and peed in th’other too many times to mistake the qualities of wetness…
Not yet M.P. Not yet.
Ed*ard Teller @ 17
And you are going to leave that hanging?!
It better be good, ET…)
AK @16 says: I still say that Leahy, Waxman, Conyers and Pelosi are four killer wolverines on the scent, and there are litterally tens of thousands of judges, lawyers, representatives at the state and local level, military officers of all ranks, diplomats, statesmen, the whole nine yards who are just waiting for them to say, very quietly. “we are moving to impeach Richard Cheney and George W. I LOVE this!
The fly in the ointment is the super majority.
Here’s the linky on the 2004 stuff GP has from another interview:
linky!
ABC news says suicide bomb teams have been sent to the U.S.
convenient timing of that announcement, eh not?
Alfred K, I so want you to be on the money.
I was looking at The Gavel and noticed that Jesse Lee writes the blog. Wasn’t he the mod over at the old DNC blog Kicking Ass?
Just In! More on the email trail from Emptywheel!

Elliott @ 34
Oh, yes. If anything could say “Waxman and Conyers are onto something”, that does to me. (Not to be cynical or anything.)
Hey, who d’ya s’pose was writing Gingrey’s lines for him for the Hardball appearance tonight?
Gee, the good doctor sure had his opinions about pink shirted Dems vs. camou wearing soldiers. He thought he was pretty clever about ‘em, too. And hey, he sure would’ve found time to serve in the military himself except he had this Chee-knee thing going….
Fascinating how these right-to-lifers stop worrying about lives and the quality thereof after the delivery. Now we gotta stay, to honor the dead in Iraq, says Gingrey. Yeah, by making sure even more of our military return in coffins and hospital planes.
Was he the guy Colbert eviscerated on the commandments? What is it about bearing false witness he denies to understand….
CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!! CODE BROWN!!!
ABC News Exclusive: The suicide bombers are coming! The suicide bombers are coming! The suicide bombers are coming! The suicide bombers are coming! The suicide bombers are coming! The suicide bombers are coming! The suicide bombers are coming!
Large teams of newly trained suicide bombers are being sent to the United States and Europe…some 300 recruits, some as young as 12…
What fucking crap.

When will this country wake up to the fact that we are our own worst enemy?
I’m clearly not quite as old as Alfred Kelgarries (I was just growing out of stuffed animals and blocks when McCarthy was doing his thing), but I agree with his perceptions.
With the DoJ hopelessly politicized, Pelosi (Leahy, Waxman et al) must build a rock solid case, then must cram it down a reluctant media’s throat. That is why it is “taking so long”.
It is coming, it just takes an issue that resonates with the public. The media (even Rupurt Murdoch) cannot ignore an issue that upsets the public (who said “the difference between a businessman and a beaurocrat is that, when pushed to the wall, a businessman can usually read the handwriting on it”? Tim Leary? RA Wilson?). When they’ve got the issue and got the evidence, it will be WHAM BAM Thank you MAM (trust that’s not too rich for FDL).
Pelosi in ‘07!
BobbyG @ 40
Be very careful though if you try to read the comments on the thread. It is obviously Clinton’s fault that all this is happening…/snark
Oklahoma kiddo @ 32
good luck with Aunty tonight. tell her she’s a treasure. she’ll like that (and it’s true). btw, Fineman on KO tonight said we might just see more than the requisite # of Repub defections come September. That’s when the iron will be hot.
LoudounLib @ 31
Thank you. I do not say these things lightly. I’ve been into some of the dirtiest stuff this poor nation has ever done or had done to it, some of which has become known and a lot more has not. Unfortunately, it isn’t the pretty, exciting tin foil hat stuff. It’s dirty, greedy, nasty human stupidity, sloth, pettiness, and so forth, magnified by the potential of a nation of 200 million people who are incredibly productive and amazingly willing to be led to their own doom by fools with golden voices.
What has saved us? People like Fitz, like Walton, like Conyers, like Pelosi. NONE OF THESE PEOPLE ARE SAINTS. they have flaws, sometimes terrible ones. But when the chips are down, when the darths and the chimpys want to sing us all to perdition with their lying serenades, these and tens of thousands like them are the ones who preserve our republic.
The netroots are new, new and very, very, dangerous to the established order. Just as phampleteering was in the late 1700’s, or muckraking was in the late 1800 and early 1900’s. (Anyone who thinks the current sellout by the MSM is a strange new thing, should head to wikipedia and read up on muckraking. Then google it and hit a couple dozen sites devoted to its history and current relevance. Josh Marshall didn’t call the spinoff site MuckRaker for no reason. That boy knows what I know and FAR FAR MORE…)
The netroots can and indeed must play a powerful role in the coming evolution of american democracy. but we as leaders of that coming movement (and make no mistake, I see the patina of leaders great and small on every poster here; Jane Hamsher is a “strange attractor” in statistical terms and has become a magnet for some of the best of who are to come (I’m excluded because I’m too dang old and besides I’m a professional curmudgeon and I don’t want to lose my union discount on grumpy pills) have a responsibility to not expect either sainthood or stupidity from our political employees. They also are professionals, albeit of a profession whose very existence they have to publicly deny.
If anyone is wondering why I’m sitting here typing like a fool, my dad just got back from the checkup treadmill. Bottom line, HE’S GOING TO LIVE TO BE A HUNDRED or even more, unless he gets hit by a suicide bomber. If I could still drink I weould be soooooo drunk by now. Instead, I’m getting ahead on my work and bothering you all with my little maunderings. I apologize for the inconvience, and thanks for all the fish.
Worky….
Alfred, Thanks.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 49
love those meandering maunderings, Alfred. good news worth celebrating somehow. enjoy. good night. peace.
Bothering us? Please, Alfred…Keep “bothering us!”
Ed*ard Teller @ 17
Yes, ET. I saw that story about Gov Palin firing the entire Ag board to get the dairy board and my spidey sense went bananas. Pls come back fron your mtg and dish!
Alfred @ 49 – Dude, I am in awe. According to most, I’m 30 years too old to think the way I do, so I keep wondering when I’ll have to grow up. Thanks for answering that for me!
Not to be a “wet blanket” or anything, PW, but with all due respect (which is considerable since I draw much info and solace for the ‘Lake), imho to put out a grab-bag of possible topics and to request that we converse about them all in this one blog-comment-string demonstrates the inadequacy (imho) of the blog model for what you apparently intend to be a multi-threaded conversation in this one thread. In my own view, we ‘Pups would better-served by a multi-threaded BBS-type structure when more than one topic is offered for discussion.
=====
I’m real happy that several ‘Pups are taking part by now. I hope to “see” you all there too. There’s even a ‘PupPoll where you can quickly (and anonymously) cast your vote about possible future FDL formats.
I’ll be repeating this invitation in later comments.

Mary Matalin, wrote a fund raising letter for the Scooter. Matalin reveals that it was Clinton’s fault for the attack on the WTC.
Bush administration is now trying to muzzle the hurricane director, Bill Proenza, over his statements about wasting money on PR.

fyi gang, our pal emptywheel bragged about how she was going to have a light blogging day because she’s on some DC panel this week, but Ralston and Sy Hersh and the fact that Cheney is running the US policy on a little country called Pakistan all by himself has got her riled up.
Frank33 @ 56
Not that anyone could IMAGINE that Bin Laden would try to attack us. The PDB briefer with the brief titled “Bin Laden Plans attack in US” was just covering his a** doncha know…
From an old thread, thanks LS and Elliot. I’ve passed your compliments on the video on to my husband.
zhiv @ 58
Yes, she does rile up easy.
I am intrigued about how Ken Mehlman was ‘dissappeared’ from the RNC database.
It seems to me he and the folks in the NH GOP were doing a lot of “colluding” in the run-up to the 2002 elections.
That was the election that saw the GOP dirty trick machine kick into gear and jam the phone-lines of the NH Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts.
There have been several convictions.
But perhaps there would have been more if the USAG in NH wasn’t a “loyal Bushie”. He must be because I don’t think he was ever targeted by the Rove Corruption Mill.

C&L has the Countdown segment with KO and Shuster discussing the e-mails up.
I’m so dying to know if the emails will shed light on Guckert/Gannon too.
Good night sweet thing. I won’t be home when you get here later. I know you will look for me here and there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..mp;search=
Question: Why so many e-mails? If 88 people send 10 e-mails a day, that is, say 300,000 a year. Why are 5,000,000 missing?
Seems to be an advantage for criminals to have the Justice Dept as an employee. If they threaten ta indict ya- ya FIRE their asses- and ya put a lackey in charge opens law books and finds nothin but “THE PRESIDENT CAN DO NO WRONG” printed on every page.
Cool huh?
Elliott @ 42
thanks, Elliott!
Delurking:
What pisses me off about this e-mail thing is that I have clear guidelines about the fact that my business dealings with clients must go through the server of my broker/dealer and anything private or dealing with Outside Business Activities must go through an outside e-mail service approved and disclosed to the SEC.
Much time and discussion is spent on whether communications go through one avenue or another. There are times where there is a question, and if the question is big enough we go to a compliance supervisor. If I have to answer this question everyday as a simple financial services provider, why can’t my government officials perform the same task? I am required to take many hours of compliance reviews, continuing education courses, etc. Shouldn’t our premier lawmakers make the same commitment?

g’evening everyone
hey Suz :-)
Yikes! Just avoided getting jumped upon by Suzane :-)
Mary McCurnin @ 72
So how many of the cc’d people are going to come forth with their emails? I wonder if Waxman/Leahy could just put out a blanket “Turn in your RNC, GWB, GeorgeBush, Rove emails” to a designated third party now.
hey PW – nice to see we got a twofer today from you. Excellent grab bag
hey ll, sorry, technicolor, didn’t see ya until my second rotation
Evening, Suzanne. You splashed me!
sorry, LooHoo, I splashed almost everyone trying to avoid technicolor.
“Until 9/11, counterterrorism was a very secondary issue at the Bush White House,” said a senior Clinton official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Remember those first months? The White House was focused on tax cuts, not terrorism. We saw the budgets for counterterrorism programs being cut.”
Mary Matalin is full of it
Rula Law!!!! *screaming laughter* Oh you’re funny! Good one. Of course, as your snark pointed out, Phoenix Woman, the War Criminals in the White House have never heard of such a thing!
*gagging myself with a spatula* at the sheer criminality of it all.
Okay, going to bed. Nite peeps. ;-)
Hey – since the RNC is very deeply complicit in this whole (illegal) email thing and coverup – could the RNC be found guilty and SHUT DOWN? Woo hoo – what would that do to Rove’s plans. BWAHAHAHAHAHA.
No problem, just trying to clear room in the lake.
My main issue is that we spend so much time considering what is appropriate or not in communicating with our clients, and spend a great deal of time meeting the requirements that are required by regulatory agencies, that it is incredibly offensive that some people claim that Scooter Libby or any other official that is found guilty, “oh it’s politics”. Many of us are regulated and accept that it’s necessary. That’s fine. But to see the top of our government avoid that is insulting.
TRex has the Late Nite up!!!
