Eli was in town today and I got to have lunch with him. It was great to meet him in person, finally, and he told me he’s been so busy the last few days he did not feel caught up on the news. “What’s happening?” he asked.
I had to confess I felt I only had a dim grasp myself. After I live blogged “Libbypalooza: The Orange Pajama Edition” on Thursday, I buried myself in my “real” work Friday and I’ve been feeling a little out of it ever since.
So, I got to thinking, I could sure use a little more bloggy promiscuity from far and wide. There’s so many bloggers out there and I haven’t had time to find you, let alone read the “usual suspects” the last few days. So I’m opening another edition of what I’d like to call from now on “Blog Whorehouse.”
Come on inside! Tell us about your favorite recent post from your own blog, whoever you are. Tell us what kinds of issues or stories you like to cover if you have a blog. Or, if you don’t have a blog, tell us about some real gem of a writer you cherish and read with guilty pleasure, someone the rest of us may not know so well.
Because at the Blog Whorehouse, it’s a free love blog whoring free for all. And if you’re just here for the party, let yourself try something a little different, something you may never have tried before. Expand your horizons. Try reading something someone else recommends, even if at first it doesn’t interest you. We promise we’ll be gentle.
You never know. You might like it!

Late Night!
Woohoo, Pach!!!
hi y’all
Pach!

g’evening everyone

Hey gang. Suffice it to say, no black lights are allowed here at the Blog Whorehouse.
That dive was so nice, she had to do it twice ;-)
hi Suzanne – double double
um, Pach? Did you mean to post this in “Bigotsphere”?
Evening all. How’s life in the Lake this evening?
These are the titles of our latest posts on YouthINKLeft:
* Corporate Crime —- did they fool you too?
* Romney woos anti-abortion activists
* It’s Time to Take on the Puppy Mills
* Another Modest Proposal
* Will Bush pardon Libby?
I wrote the first and the last. Those two are also on Political Teen Tidbits, along with some other stuff I wrote or stole off this site!
Hey DrD :-)
Yep, give us your best. Would love to see some new blogospheric voices.
Suzanne @ 7
Uhoh, points subtracted for technique(double post)! Evening, Ma Cheri!!!
Suzanne is somebody shooting at you? Or is your lake on fire?
Hi Suzanne!
Suzanne @ 6
Evening, Suz! It’s almost warm enough to swim here in the non-heated pool! Sounds like an interesting outfit you have going!
DrDick @ 12
We’re watching “All the President’s Men”

Whenever I trip and fall, I like to do the Inspector Clouseau thing: I meant it to look like that.

OK, I’ll bite.
The Seeker Blog.
Not liberal but not conservative, meaning I am hard on both – I bash FDL just as easily as O’Reilly (mostly because I expect more out of FDL). :-) But all I really want to do is make you think. So if you would like to argue with me or try to convince me otherwise, please stop by and comment. I like a good argument from conservatives and liberals alike ;-)
Suzanne I left a “Please MOD” comment on the last thread. Please.
Nuh-uh.
The last time I went blog-whoring my computer got a virus.
*crosses legs*
TRex @ 24
ALWAYS use protection when you go out!
Pach, Jane, and now TRex. Triples! Is there a dive, Suz, for such an occasion?
My name is David. I’m The Subway Serenade and I blog from “The End Of Civilization As We Know It!”
Got your joke of the week right here.!
So, I made some empanadas tonight, and they are yummy. I’m gonna make more tomorrow. I have lots more meat left but I have to make more dough, and anyway, I had to quit for the night to blog.
Hi Jane – Oh wait Trex is here – who should I talk to? I am very confused…
Pachacutec @ 28
I love it when you talk dirty.
Mmmm, empanadas…a few weeks ago a guy we work with, who was born in Cuba, brought in some home-made empanadas for us. Muy delicioso!
Gosh, should I call Christy? I wonder if she’s awake.
Wear a raincoat Trex, viruses won’t be a problem. Kidding. For those of you who love college football, EDSBS.com is the funniest blog out there.
Every day should be Saturday.
well, this is really neither there nor here for purposes of the discussion….but I gotta confess, I’m kind of a blog virgin myself.
B4 I found fdl in fall 2005, the only thing I ever read was Salon……and since then, I haven’t, uh, gotten out much.
I like Rude Pundit though. He rawks…
Blogshack, baby, blogshack!!
Good gravy, Pach, does that tune bring back some tequila-sodden memories. Ah, the good old days when I still believed there were adults in charge…
SnarKassandra @ 23
It is done, Cassie – please check and confirm.
If there are any Washington Nationals fans about, I like the blog Capitol Punishment
So Jane, can I make an appointment with you when I am in CT in July? Love to be able to chat with you…
TRex @ 32
And where the hell is Phoenix Woman? Lew? Howie!
Subway Serenade @ 27
I kinda sorta saw something about you performing at the DemFest in NH, Subway!!!
True? What was it like?
For the last two weeks or so I have been trying to do a daily post on the Doom Brothers. This is actually a site I used to do with a friend before there was such a thing as a blog. We had quite a bit of success but found the daily grind of doing humor every day to be a bit much. (and when Bush was elected, I did not find anything funny, he did.)
I decided to try to do it again. I do not know how long I will be able to keep it up: but if you go there and like it, please leave a note saying so. If you hate it, I guess not note is necessary. :)
Thanks (DWD – a constant reader, infrequent contributor but a friend of WGG’s and Eli’s)

Thanks again and keep up the good work over here. This blog is on my must see list and I am here many times a day checking on postings. I enjoy it.
Twisted Martini @ 38
I may be letting the cat out of the bag here, but Jane is moving to the DC area in a couple of weeks.
She’s gonna set up with an extra bedroom so Marcy can come in and cover congressional hearings, or Howie can come to town for Blue America stuff, etc.
So, Jane’s gonna be my neighbor. Soon.
I’m afraid I don’t pimp my blog anymore since I left the Salon blog ring. Miss that community, was so much fun and so many quality bloggers, too. I still visit my buddy Dave Pollard at How to Save the World; he’s one of the few who continue to hang their shingle at the Salon digs, and of course he is still pumping out the quality content.
C-Span-whoring: Colbert on book TV, C-Span 2 @ BookExpo.
S’ok Pach, your gain is CT’s loss. I was was just hoping to get a shot of Jane when I go back east in a couple of weeks. Hate that Glavine lost today too.
ok, lets see if that fixed my double posting (fingers, toes, eyes, and legs crossed)
LooHoo, that would be the infamous Triple Lundy dive.
Pachacutec @ 43
someday it would be nice to have a get together of some kind. I would really enjoy meeting the local fdl folks. (And the remote ones too, of course.)
Rayne, you need to thank your maker that you don’t have MR Amway as your Governor. I told you to have faith!
A group of us — women, wimmin, bi, straight, lesbian and dyke — blog at Maoist Orange Cake with a penchant for language, political edginess, recipes (like, for FOOD), opera, cats, and insider identity politics humor. P.S. We moderate heavily. Trolls needn’t bother.
Hi all,
Scarecrow, Kathryn in MA, and Ryan and I went to a forum that Kerry did this afternoon. He took questions about the war and it was beyond words awful. Then we came back to the house for hot dogs and some major ranting. it may take a while to work that one out of my system.
Personally I’ve written very little since getting close to getting the job I’ll be starting in August. But my last sermon was on the coming American Fascism. Didn’t want to post it for the church folks so did it on my web site instead. I’ve had so much to do lately that writing for my site has been really spare. Hope to get back to doing more come July.
Jane, I sent you an e-mail regarding Charlie Savage.
I realize that the WaPo is not a blog (try as some of them may), but when Dalia’s up with the Testimonial Two Step, it’s worth a read.

That’s fantastic!
Wouldn’t it be cool if people got together for FDL BBQ’s and stuff? I know some MA folks did that last year, with Rots Project. Or at least, they tried to put it together.
Keep those blog hookers, er. . . coming!
So Jane is moving to DC, I’m moving to PA. We’ll be within shouting (and driving) distance.
Meanwhile any FDL folk in Portland OR? I’m heading there monday for a week.
Twisted Martini @ 47
Thank mom and dad? I think not. ;-)
It took more than faith; it took beating him back with his corruption during one of the debates (GO JENNY!!) and it took a big dose of humor.
If you weren’t following along with the Disembodied Head of Dick DeVos, you missed the best part of the race! What a hoot; I think this guy’s got enormous potential if he can get a crack at another Mormon, I mean, moron not unlike Dick’s Head in a national race…
G’night Firedogs, heading to bed. Gotta sleep off a few V&T’s.

as a long time Salon reader, may I ask which one there was yours?
These days, I like Steve Conason, Sidney Blumenthal, and Glenn Greenwald; Joan Walsh (most of the time); whoever does Broadsheet (most of the time). And the war room guys most of the time. And the how the world works dude…..(is Andrew Leonard his name?) though often he’s over my head.
Camille Paglia, though…….GOD! What f*******g rock did they dig her up out of?
Night Twisted M.

Since I’m a name you can trust to drive up the price of eyebleach stock, I won’t sully Pach’s pristine empenada lovefest with my vulgar trifles.
:)
Dang, I missed Jane, Pach, and TRex while rebooting :(
Good night Mr Martini
Suzanne @ 54
Congratulations!
I meant JOE Conason. Senior moment…..
Well, I have to say that in addition to FDL, I ALWAYS read Howie Klein’s and keninny’s posts at DWT. http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/
Obviously, DWT is not exactly unknown to FDL readers. But, it may not be a major stop in the blogging world. Sure is for me. These guys are both great writers. And, I know for sure that keninny graduated college the exact same year that I did, and suspect that Howie is close in that grad date. Thus, they use words and language that derive from the same cultural surroundings and times as mine. Not to mention an unaccountably similar political perspective ;).
i”m still here, but I my spidey sense tells me Jane has crashed for the night.
Sorry, Pach, thought I had missed all 3 of you in the eternity it took to reboot.
I’m here, but I’m about to go take some laundry out of they dryer and start folding, and maybe iron a shirt to wear to church in the morning.
oddmommy @ 68
Oh no, I wasn’t part of the magazine itself, which all those folks are. In 2002, Salon tried an experiment offering Salon-branded blogs to users who bought Radio Userland blogging app and hosted space on Salon servers. There was nice little community of individuals who gave it a shot for the 4 years they offered this package, but a redesign and a new approach to content blogged by professionals meant that the blogs by individuals had to take a powder.
My blog then and now was Rayne Today; I moved to Blogger after a crash with Radio from which I couldn’t recover. But I moved my blogging just about the time I burnt out on blogging, went dormant for quite a while and I’ve never really gotten the mojo back to blog as regularly as it takes to build traffic.
I also group-blogged at RadioFreeBlogistan, owned and operated by Christian Crumlish; unfortunately that blog is now on deathwatch, since Christian has moved on to new projects and my fellow co-bloggers are likewise preoccupied.
Suzanne did you see the MOD PLEASE note I left on the last thread? Or did some other mod back there?

TheLurkingMod @ 36
Psst- Cassie!

Ohhhh!!!! Hearty congrats! You’ve been through some tough times of late, so it must have made you feel good.
I’m proud of the research that was done a year ago for my Blog, which gives the REAL, ACTUAL, explanation for the existence of right-wing Conservatism.
It is very surprising, even shocking.

Cassie, lets take this off thread please so we don’t clutter up Pach’s blogwhoring.
I have to say that one person I read whenever she posts is moiv. She writes on reproductive choice issues and no one does it like she does. She tends to post on Kos and Talk2Action.
Here’s her latest.
I highly recommend anything she writes.
Also Fred Clarkson who was one of the founders of Talk2Action. He had a great post on the Mass Marriage triumph and the implications.
For those who care about the religious right wingnuts, that’s a great site for getting the inside scoop of what they are up to and what it means.
TRex @ 86
Just said something I wasn’t supposed to.
TRex @ 80
Watch out for the Head Usher, TRex.
Well, it’s not really blog-related, but we’ve had some nutcase posting incomprehensible rants on our IMC and I finally decided to call him out on it. (The IMC is down at the moment, but it’s here) I wrote a post with his name in the title and then when he didn’t pick up on it for a day, I had a buddy of mine write him “Yo. someone’s dissin’ you man!” and then had him give the guy the link. Very, very weird conversation. Guy has some really, really strange theory about the 1991 Gulf War. What it would mean even if it were true is not at all clear.
Anyway, I took the approach suggested by Miss Manners. When a kid wants to interrupt the party, ask the child to speak clearly. Listen to the child carefully and then react appropriately. It works quickly and if it was something important, you will have gotten the message. So far, the guy has dropped out of the conversation, but hasn’t tried to post any more rants. (Fingers crossed)
RevDeb @ 91
That’s a good point. If you have, perchance, favorite dkos diarists, by all means, bring them in and swap their fluids.
It’s MCC, so you may have a point.
Peterr @ 93
Er, watch out for TRex when he’s kneeling.
Must run, working tomorrow. Good night all!
How’s things going Cassie? Finding some new friends to hang out with —face to face?
g’nite LL. sleep well.
“Swap their fluids” Pach? Getting a little personal are we?
RevDeb @ 99
No but I am seeing old friends face to face.
In spite of the prevailing bordello atmosphere on this thread, I’m going to refrain from saying something vurrrrry tacky right now.
Night LL.
Rayne @ 81
ooooh. Thanks for ’splainin. I didn’t know about any of that.
TRex @ 103
Really?
What’s gotten into you?
Pachacutec @ 106
Must of been something he ate.
Sigh.
Precious little lately.
A favorite site of mine . . . Angry Black Bitch.
Oh, can that girl snark!
Pach, perhaps TRex is behaving now to get in the proper mindset for church in the morning (and avoiding that whole guilty conscious about Saturday nite while in church Sunday morning).
Alright, it’s midnight. I need to get my laundry out of the dryer before it turns into a pumpkin. A wrinkly, impossible-to-fold pumpkin.
My two most recent blogposts are my favoriites
The first because it gave me a chance to get back at the creep who’ve been bugging me aboutmy “Obama the Magic Negro” op-ed I ran their letters without getting permission.
Don’t even THINK of fucking with me!!
My most recent allowed me to take smug breeders to task.
It’s a dirty job, and I’m the Big Ol’ Gay Homosexual to do it!

Ahem.
Watch out for the Head Usher.
LoudounLib @ 99
Good heavens, dear neighbor….do you mind if I ask what you do? You seem to work all the time!
Oh, we’re blogwhoring tonight.
I did a good one today, but our Wordpress theme went wonky for awhile and hardly anyone saw it with its clothes on.
http://www.sadlyno.com/archives/6236.html
Well, I think I will call it an early night as well. Take care and enjoy the snark.
g’nite dr(pause)dick
good night.
Hi everyone.
RonD @ 119
HI RonD
g’nite, Cassie. sleep well
Hi RonD! So nice to see you.
G’night, sleepers.
Good evening all.
So many beds at this party.
And they all say they’re going to sleep, but I know better.
lolo! I have been worried about you! Everything okay?
Pachacutec @ 125
HA! Don’t we all…
lolo, where have you been? we have been so worried – you ok?
Pachacutec @ 125
Ah, so this is a slumber party? Who knew?
LoudounLib @ 83
That was very cool…Ta, LL.
I am Ok, but my bunny died last week and I was so sad I could only lurk.
Since they say we are here with our jammies on – a slumber party is such a natural idea.
I am so sorry, lolo. You were missed.
Very sorry, lolo.
Suzanne @ 133
Thanks Suzanne that’s so sweet.
We missed you, lolo. Sorry about your bunny.
Oh jebus. I just checked the old Salon blogs list for old time’s sake, and I actually had 64-plus hits on my old site…for a picture of Bratz dolls.
Go figure.
Pretty amusing to trip through some of the older stuff, like World O’ Crap’s original home. Wonder whatever happened to the Reverse Cowgirl who was one of the first bloggers at Salon? Julie Powell of the Julie/Julia Project had her book published over a year ago after her project ended, think she’s got a number of freelance gigs. Birdie at Beauty Dish quit Avon. And RealLivePreacher went on hiatus after moving. All moved on.
But His Right Reverend Dr. Omed is still snipping away, and Robert Wilkison is still cross-posting his astrology reports from his Aquarius Papers…heck, there’s still a number of folks who are still pecking away at the keyboards at the Salon blogs. There are a lot of treats left to be had yet, might have to spend some time poking around in my old haunt.
Judge orders Surveillance docs to be made public.
http://thinkprogress.org/
lolo – glad you’re back. Condolences.
My blog is a bit different in that I post progressive jobs and not about my life or my opinions on things, but my favorite posting was an e-mail copywriter for the Obama campaign. I would have applied for it myself if I hadn’t just gotten a new job. I don’t know if it’s been filled yet, but give it a shot if you’re interested.
Loo Hoo. @ 138
woohoo, LooHoo.
Well, to do a little blogwhoring with a clear conscience! My site is concerned mostly with the intersection of history and politics, especially military history and what I think of as “secret history”. I’m on Blogger here:
Man in the Street.
Some of my favorite posts are:
Green Zone Tet
A History of Violence
The Phoenix Program
A Moment of Clarity
Hope you find something worthwhile-love hanging here with all of you.
Thank you, ‘Lake!
Will J. @ 140
Wow, this is a great idea for the progressive community. I’m not looking for a job but, dang, excellent idea.
Pachacutec @ 43
Pach — my sister-in-law was in town this week so I couldn’t make it to my first Drinking Liberally. Hopefully next week. Think Jane can be convinced to join from time to time as well? I’m Jonesing for intelligent conversation after four days with my Indy-living, Quayle-loving, Tim LaHaye-reading sister-in-law. Sigh…
OK, I’ll push my recent post at my blog about the disingenuousness of Rep. Jane Harman and how even though she voted the right way on the Iraq supplemental (No), she still thinks the Republican way of thinking about it is still right (ie. that a No vote meant denying the troops armor to survive).
LooHoo! Interesting!
Permalink to the story here
There’s plenty of intelligent conversation at Arlington Drinking Liberally, with or without me or Jane there. But I’m sure once Jane settles in she’ll make appearances, at least once in a while.
She still has to recuperate, after all, once the chemo is done. Just one more round to go, but her body is sure feeling it.
Pachacutec @ 145
Since you’ve let the cat out of the bag, why is Jane moving to DC?
{{Loo Hoo}}! How are you?
Evening all.
Happy 40 year anniversary of Monterey Pop. It really rocked.
I mentioned the reason above: Plame house, the extended edition, only not for Plame stuff.
Except also, she wants to have my children.
Pachacutec @ 151
She’s welcome to mine.
Pachacutec @ 147
I am in awe that she has been so active, including the TBA2007 conference next week. Amazing grit, that Jane.
Pachacutec @ 151
She just wants your empanadas. ;-)
Rayne @ 153
I never would have known.
Valley Girl @ 147
I think Valerie Plame’s old job may be vacant. “Wanted: smart, attractive blond, with a passion for the constitution and all that it stands for . . .”
Or is it Monica’s old job at the DOJ? I hear there are a LOT of high level vacancies there.
Balrog @ 152
That was fast!
(Joining late)
Interesting topic for the top post!
I’ve done enough blogging on MyDD and DailyKos to know how much work it can take to write a good blog, and even then its no guarantee that very many people will notice, or respond to it– even when I get a nice tip of the hat from Jane. So that gives me a lot of respect for you and Jane and Christy and the others who write so many dynamite blogs!
Bob in HI
Sorry for the drive-by, but good nite, all. Early day tomorrow-just couldn’t retire without checking in.
The best of all possible tomorrows to all of you.
I don’t blog. I poet. Here’s one.
Fishing on Sunday
The touch, the tactile nature of your big hands, mouth, self
has my over excited brain running to places I long ago left.
Hiding in the dark soul of my nemisis for a day
I wait for relief from intimacy and joy.
It doesn’t work.
You are still on the other end of the phone,
laughing,
and we make plans to go fishing on
Sunday.
Time for my remummification for the night, folks.
See you all with the sunrise!
nite Pach!
happy wrapping (or is it unwrapping), pach.
Peterr @ 156
Can you just imagine what Jane would do in Goodling’s role, given the breadth of that Delegation of Authority. I would pay a fortune to see that.
David Ehrenstein at 113
Thanks for the link to your fablog. I really liked the post where you talked about the WILLful misreading of your column on Barak Obama. Also I enjoyed how you pointed out how the drug addict with a coast to coast radio program co-oped your column for his own racist means.
You said
It’s too bad you and Rush couldn’t go head to head on Katie Couric’s show. That would have been fun to see.
I’d like us to get Rush out in more events like that where he doesn’t control the box. When Rush had a studio audience that he didn’t control, he couldn’t handle it. He is as fragile as Bush when it comes to confrontation, when someone really questions Bush he shows how pissed he is. (remember the Irish Reporter who asked him some tough questions? He will show what a child he is when he doesn’t get his way.)
And I won’t blog whore http://www.spockosbrain.com, but something from my friend Kim
At Pet Food Tracker
Kim talks about how the FDA is saying that there is no threat to pets from acetaminophen in their food (even though we have hundreds of reports of sick and dying pets). They are trying to discredit the lab that found the acetaminophen in the food and claimed that it didn’t exist with out even doing a exact sample to sample comparison.
Kim also put together a list of all the recalled pet food that is readable and usable for people to take to the grocery store or give to non-computer savvy neighbors. Sen. Dick Durbin praised her list and told the FDA that they should use her work as a model.
(Of course she isn’t getting paid to do this, and the FDA is. It’s a crazy world, drop her some electronic coin if you find her list useful for your safe pet food shopping.)
Good evening dear friends. Cold sesame noodles for this evening’s snack. I ate mounds and mounds of these when i was pregnant with TexTeen. Not pregnant at the moment, but feeling a taste for my favorite Chinese dish.
oddmommy @69: Don’t get TRex started on Camilla. Just don’t. *g*
Spocko, always nice to have you drop by.
Hey, Tex, you got anything for those of us with a sweet tooth this fine Saturday nite?
Balrog I’ll take the baby. He sounds like a sweetie. :)

Someone ought to tell them that we’re under 200 and Pach has said good night. Not sure it’s time for a Late, Late.
Out here in the “red” high desert, I make an effort to keep up with The Grumpy Forester. Surprisingly astute and on point reading!
One more indulgence and I will quit.
Diamond
Early middle aged indiscretions
can be viewed as forthright creations
to get a jump on death.
I swung the bat and heard it connect.
As I rounded third base with home in view
I mooned the crowd
and screwed the ump.
All the while the ball
had left the park,
come unraveled
and spun to nothingness.
I ran with my underpants around my ankles
and
in the little distance
left I
could still see home.
Oh nuts, I wanted to pass this on to Jane, don’t know if she saw this one on Friday.
They are eating their young.
Better stock up on extra popcorn.

Ah! I didn’t really think of the connection until you named it. Plame House it should be, just like public buildings are named for some memorial event or person, but the business conducted in them continues in that tradition!
Is there a special fund for supporting Plame House II? I’m willing to contribute.

Riding in my House
I have been riding in my house,
a ship among trees,
barking dogs,
and people coming and going.
I swear, when the night storms hit,
the house rolls from one side to another.
The pitch is so great that I run to the back porch
and lower the anchor.
The house strains when it hits bottom.
Windows bulge from the turbulence outside.
Furniture slides around the rooms
like a scene from a bad movie.
I pass through the kitchen on the way back to bed
and notice the sink is full of rocking dinner dishes.
I figure one of the benefits of the gail
is this washing action and
I can just rinse those suckers in the morning
and put them away.
When morning does come the walls are upright,
the trees are still holding up the sky,
the dogs bark at their canine phantoms,
and the dishes are put away.

Wow, a place where you’re invited to tout your blog? I’m new to this, and posted my address(only once!) on Huffington Post, before learning it was “bad form.” So far, no negative repercussions (whew!).
But, I have just recently started a new blog after reading them for years. I particularly like this one, AmericaBlog and Raw Story. I’m not up to those high standards, but check it out if you like. Thanks. Greenlee Gazette
Nader is all about Nader. I saw him on CPAN complaining about political bigotry. Think he’ll ever concede that it was his run for office that put us in the position we are in today?
Hearts and Diamonds
Playin with hearts and diamonds,
his mama sucked on death all day
and half the night,
giving him her sideways glance,
lettin’ him know she wanted only
to see her reflection and,
at the same time,
perfection.
His daddy caught babies
from the centers of other women and
never saw anything
except that his hands were full of life
and thought that was enough.
Spit polished by the skinny, angry maid,
he daily left the cavernous expectations
of the house and hopped the school bus.
Played little league.
His big, necessary glasses gettin’ in the way.
Ran over mossy green stones,
over small, slick streams
and
hid in the quiet spots of his lonely
awkward heart.
Played at being a sweet, wanted boy.
Pretended it to be true.
He walked into manhood
with the emptiness covered over by good mind
and healing hands like his daddy’s.
The years rolled over him workin’ him hard
like Jesus.
When death came for him early
he was so blind
that it took him two full years
to understand
he was gone.

Grass Valley, m’deah, home of conservative flag wavin elders and bluegrass hounds of the first order!!
And it’s the 32′nd annual fest, and it’s a doozy . . first one I’ve missed in 5 years . . it’s a pickers camp jam dream . . .
Some folks never even SEE the main stage and don’t care, they pay the price of $100 or so for four days of HOT 100F camping just to jam 24/7.
About 7K total, I think, 5K easily for the campers . . . daily attendence not included.
It really is THE Premier BLUEGRASS Fest on the West Coast . . . *G* A bit conservative for my tastes at times, but, you get that many porch pickers together for four days and I GUARENTEE you’ll hear Peter Rowan/Jerry Garcia songs, DawgMusic, some gypsy swing, lots of old Stones Covers (acoustic/country) and tons of americana, folk and well, real people playin REAL instruments with strings and voices raised in 3-4 part harmonies singing ‘parts’ like only bluegrass styles of song allow . . . but I gush . . . ;-)
I prefer Strawberry Music Festival, and it’s twice a year! But this one, CBA’s Father’s Day Fest, is close to home and when the weather is cooler a bit, it’s a KILLER picker’s dream!!!! *G*

OK, I’m gonna be sick: C-Span – Nader opining on Gore’s committment to the environment. Move all throwable objects!
One recent non-political post I can brag about was my obligatory Sopranos prediction the day before the episode aired: I correctly predicted that Agent Harris would help Tony “defeat or destroy” Phil Leotardo. The post wasn’t political, but my thinking was: I figured the feds wouldn’t want chaos on the docks, and Tony would be seen as the more stable (and potentially helpful) of the bad guys. US foreign policy brought down to Jersey.
Another post I’m happy about is one calling attention to the interview Congressman John Lewis gave to Newsweek about the death of his old nemesis, Selma sheriff James Clark. I’d interviewed Congressman Lewis in the late 1990s, when his autobiography was published and I was an editor for Amazon.com. He stands out as one of the most impressive people I’ve ever spoken with. The only problem with the Newsweek interview is that you can’t hear him saying the words… listening to him is always a treat.
Also wrote about the bombing (again) of the mosque in Samarra, the bridge bombing campaign around Baghdad, the white elephant embassy, Rudy’s “commitments,” and also some news-pegged posts about James Joyce’s old moviehouse in Dublin, the whale with the century-old weapon in him, and an obligatory post about Angelina Jolie when she was under attack from the right wing noise machine. It was an interesting week between dinner at Holsten’s and Bloomsday.

Why thank you Suzanne. The folk at FDL are so nice.
Keep an eye out for a story from the LA Times next week about people who had to act as the FDA and sent in their pet food to a private lab to have it tested.
I’ve been behind the scenes talking to reporters and trying to help some of the folks who are considering challenging the pet food companies who claim there is food is fine.
The FDA is trying to dismiss the labs claims even though they haven’t tested the same samples! I wonder how many pets have to die this time before they act?

The Fig Tree
Mama sings her song of need and nurture.
Daddy goes on another out of town trip.
Around the corner,
I slip up the squat fig tree.
Hold at bay the heat of the high noon day.
Hidden by the thick, shapely leaves
and my secret knowledge,
I sing my own little tune.
It hums in me still, a mystery.
My brown legs wrap the branches.
Breaking open the fruit, I discover
fine red seeds and three or four tears.
After drinking the liquid,
I let the fruit drop and roll, wounded side down.
I stay as long as I like
and spin dreams of royalty
and importance in the wet air.
I do not know until I grow and leave
that I have had a hot and languid beginning.
“No more football” my mother says “because your bosom is
beginning to develop.”
It is all so unbearable.
I begin to feel the touch of boys in other ways.
The game becomes urgent, a need.
I am aware, in a day, of my presence.
The mystery is diminishing and I am left with my small,
self conscious breasts.
Sixteen and a boy touches my shoulder. I am his.
We take rides in his yellow, Falcon-V8.
My father follows at a distance.
A caravan of lust and incest.
My father never really loves me again
and I know it is because the boy does.
Years later I call when babies are born
and the newly made grandfather
takes the news like a call
from a second cousin.
Tattooed with the ink of wife,
I forget to include the stain of passion,
me up a tree,
shaded with broad leaves,
and the open, blood colored fruit of figs.
40 years ago this weekend was the Monterey International Pop Festival – for those in the Monterey area next weekend should try to go for this years event.

I second that.
Volume
Volume spills from my fingertips.
Characters, spliced and renewed,
make new sounds heard only in the secrets of my mind.
With the conviction of the imprisoned
I build new words.
The sun moves east to west
across the diagonal of the roof and
half the day the sun is in my eyes.
It only seems to be a linear, electric dimension.
From the box, from the soup,
I can draw more sounds
and,
sometimes,
an occasional fish.
g’nite tex. pain free sleep wishes

An Invitation
No more can I wake alone in the pink cast of dawn,
I entreat you, Ronald Thomas Bednar, to take leave of your landlord in San Rafaelias,
give no countenance to your deposit or
I will give force and wrent my own garments in despair.
Thirty days of note, thirty days of long wait, thirty days of notice to
the man who has taken your fortune in exchange for small spaces and noisy illumination.
Come again to my house in the little burg of Sonoma to live until
fate smiles upon us and the plot is sold for copious amounts of gold
or the tax man forges his name on the deed to this quaint property.
Come to Sonoma where the figs are open and tasty,
the green quince wait to be picked and cooked into pies unspeakable.
Come to Sonoma where wanders from afar and townsfolk alike revel
at the town square (some say it is a rectangle)
and we have to offer
Della Santina, The Swiss Hotel and that wayward Cafe Lahaye.
Do not dally in Marin, that place of stuffy, newage concoctions but
come to my abode, come into my heart and home. Make me
no more a widow but a new, sweet blushing bride.

“The name of this blog”
I had plans for a book approximately 5 years ago. It seemed to encompass the very idea of me trying to wrap up my life in America within 6-7 months, tie up loose ends and move to another country across the Atlantic for love (and adventure and life). The book was going to include some of the steps I had to take, things I had to consider and important prerequisites it became apparent that were necessary in order to get away scot free.
Well, needless to say I succeeded. I earned a teaching certificate in Brno, Czech Republic at the cheapest place I could find in Europe and then started my new life in Freiburg, Germany on March 18, 2003. It turns out we moved all of Assiyeah’s stuff in a small moving van from Berlin to Freiburg on the eve of the Iraq war. A strange time to become an “American in Europe”. I got work, started travelling, got more work and started travelling more. Repeat two more times and it culminates in 2005 with 126 days of vacation. I had my first photo exhibition that year. Then last year was my highest-earning year. I had 5 exhibitions in Freiburg, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and Tilcara, Argentina and Cusco, Peru. I just got a new job. I just came back from my 3rd vacation of the year. I have today off. Really, things could not have gone any better if I had scripted it myself.
A Humorous Guide to Leaving the Country
Starting in March 2006, exactly 3 years after having begun this amazingly fantastic life (while having a tax number), I started to have troubles with my work permit. The foreign authorities of this country have almost tried to end my permission to live here in Germany as I do. They have been slow, occasionally so bull-headed in their obtuseness that I have been dumbfounded. Those troubles continue to this day but with other government agencies and with concrete amounts of money they want. I’m still here. The experience has changed but the name of the story won’t.
I can write a 150-page book in a month. I could pull it off but I would have to be disciplined. Which month would I do it? 5 pages a day. The story of me coming to germany, building my life and then being threatened from large, outside forces that make me appreciate my life just a bit more.
