As a teacher in a rural public school I am interested in what can be done to help ‘my’ kids avoid the poorness that is ever present in their parents lives. The view here is that the number one antidote to poorness is education. Any thoughts?

Since poorness is defined as lack of wealth it becomes utterly apparent the simplest solution is to give a poor person money.

Of course, there are a lot of people who don’t want to do that as it would make them feel like schmucks for spending the days of their lives working to get their money.

Thus, if you want to address poverty you generally have to go through Hell to create any kind of program(s) which help poor people without offending everybody else.

If you’re talking about long-term solutions then education definately comes into the picture, though I don’t think it’s the sole answer. In my state education is pushed pretty well, but the business environment is so sluggish that there are no jobs for college graduates — they all leave the state.

I tend to prefer a more complete all-around program of helping the poor and at the same time encouraging business expansion so even the poor might be employed.

Is Ken Salazar trying to rule everything. He is a Republican in Democrat clothing. We need true Democrats in Congress. Go Angie.

By the way, folks, one of Angie’s potential primary challengers is backed by Ken Salazar–not exactly the most progressive Dem out there. So the more you can do to help Angie early on, the better the chance that we get a real progressive in Congress.

That’s why I keep trying to figure out the differences (if they exist) between Rudy Giuliani, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Seems to me Clinton and Obama may be getting a free ride by using the Democratic party label when nobody really knows if they’re really Dems or just Republicans in sheeps clothing.

We’ll vote for Angie again if you run!

And folks, be careful w/ Mr Udall… He talks a good game, but his actions in the House have not been exactly progressive. Esp’ly around the war. I’m concerned about getting another Liebazar with him. Of course, he’ll be better than Allard, but we can aim for more than that.

It’ll sure be great to see Ms Muskrat go down this time around though!

Saturday Block Party: Help, I’m Being Held Hostage At The Watergate

Well the wisdom of fighting a war on two fronts with limited allied participation is something to highlight.

But any time there’s talk of the war, the reminder needs to be that we’re losing the home front on things like job security, education, health care, personal liberties.

Asking ours to fight in the role of uniformed service, and dismantling the good faith and credit of our budget and way of life is something
that should be addressed.

the soldiers are dying in iraq and afghanistan. the war is in America.

Understand this: if my party wins in ‘08, the fight has just begun. And I am up to it.
