[As with all Blue America chats, please keep discussions on topic and please be polite to our guest today. Any off-topic discussions should be taken to the prior thread. And, with that, please help give a big FDL welcome back to Angie Paccione! -- CHS]
Before we welcome Angie Paccione back to Firedoglake today, I want to ask you to humor me for a moment. The video, below, takes 1 minutes and 19 seconds to view and it neatly sums up why Blue America is Angie Paccione Country. (Besides, if you don’t watch it, you won’t understand the title of today’s post.)
If you’ve watched it, you understand why more than 800 of us contributed over $15,000 to Angie’s campaign last year and why we decided to use of Blue America PAC to place hundreds of radio ads all over Morgan and Yuma counties.
You will also understand why the Denver Post urged its readers to vote for her and why I was on the phone to Angie several times after the election asking her to consider running again. A few weeks ago she called me and told me she’s decided to go for it, this time with help from part of Ed Perlmutter’s winning ‘06 election team. Here’s the archive of her first FDL session.
Today Angie joins us after having won 97,670 votes (43%) against Musgrave’s 104,876 (46%) in a district with 170,294 registered Republicans (40%), 145,759 unaffiliated voters (34%) and only 108,642 registered Democrats (25%). Look closely at those numbers! It appears that almost all the registered Democrats turned out for Angie and only 60% of Republicans voted for Musgrave, nearly negating the GOP registration advantage. (Bush won the 4th CD against Kerry with 58%.) It might also be worth bearing in mind that Angie spent $1,951,000 and Musgrave spent $3,212,000. The difference this year is that where Angie was only well known in her own Larimer County in 2006 (which, unlike previous Democrats, she won), this year her name recognition district wide is an astounding 84%. Many incumbents don’t have name recognition that high.
It often takes more than one try for a candidate to defeat an incumbent.
In 2004 Pombo beat Jerry McNerney 61-39%. Two years later, McNerney’s grassroots campaign came roaring back and helped make America a better place by taking out Pombo 53- 47% in a Republican district Bush had won with 54%. In 2004, far right lunatic Jim Ryun (KS-02) beat Nancy Boyda 56- 41% and last year Boyda turned the tables on the nutcase, 51- 47%. The DCCC offered McNerney and Boyda no substantive support; they ran grassroots campaigns and the difference in 2 years in both races was name recognition garnered from the previous cycle.
I’m certain you follow my drift.
This year, even though Angie is wildly popular among CO-04 Democrats– especially in Larimer and Boulder counties, where she increased Democrat margins and beat Musgrave– before Angie can challenge Musgrave again, she has to face some Democrats who have decided to take advantage of the work she and her team have done in the district.
One guy, state Senator Brandon Shafer, who was supposedly being touted by Inside-the-Beltway types, and who Angie described to me as “high quality” and “a rising star,” quickly got a sense of the district’s loyalties and almost immediately bowed out. However, if Washington reactionaries are backing away, local reactionaries aren’t.
Colorado’s horrible right-wing Senator (not Allard, the other one– Salazar) has dispatched one of his staffers, Betsy Markey, to take on Angie. Salazar has a crappy overall voting record, votes with Republicans to confirm Bush’s worst anti-choice judicial nominations, and voted with Republicans for the anti-consumer/anti-worker bankruptcy bill. If Markey reflects his positions she may be better than Musgrave, but not much better.
And Angie? I asked her how we’re going to end the occupation of Iraq. “We’ve got to separate the notion of supporting the troops from the notion of supporting this president’s agenda.” In 2006 Angie strongly opposed Bush’s occupation of Iraq. Two days ago she told me “I’m against this president’s agenda for Iraq… and against his agenda for Iran. I supported going into Afghanistan and I think we should have done a better job there. I’d like to ask President Bush about Osama bin-Forgotten.”
Locally she says there are several issues that are resonating with the voters. “When it comes to health care, people are ready for a solution. They’ve had enough. There are nearly 800,000 people in Colorado without health insurance, particularly children and older women. People I meet when I’m campaigning are telling me that they’re spending more on medical insurance than on their mortgages!”
Fixing what the Republicans have done to public education is another of Angie’s key issues. Makes sense; she was a teacher for over 2 decades. She told me “No Child Left Behind is a hollow soundbyte. An educated population– with fully funded quality public schooling from kindergarten through college– is essential for genuine national security in the 21st century.”
So Angie’s back on the Blue America list and I hope you’ll join me in donating some money to her campaign. We’re not going to find a better candidate, not anywhere, to help us reclaim our country. Avalon Books sent us a box of the just-released YOUNG J. EDGAR: HOOVER, THE RED SCARE, AND THE ASSAULT ON CIVIL LIBERTIES. Each book has been autographed by author Ken Ackerman and it sells in stores for $28.95. Every Angie donation for $30 or more gets a Blue America thank you with a book (until the box is empty.) Add a cent to your donation if you don’t want the book. One more thing, Jacquie is already planning out an aggressive paid-media strategy for CO-04 in ‘08, so if you want to stick some dough in the Blue America PAC, please don’t be shy.

Welcome Angie! We are excited about your campaign. Thanks for coming to talk with us.
Thank you, Howie! It was great talking to you. I appreciate your generosity in having me here.
I’m excited to get the campaign up and running. We’re already kicking it into high gear. We have a great team, and we are bringing added experience to the magic that we created in ‘06.
Thank you for your dedication to true public service!
Great to have you back at FDL, Angie. I know you have a long haul ahead of you but we are all eager to be able to have you come back some time soon as Congresswoman Paccione. That video clip is very powerful and shows us what kind of a person you are. It looks to me though that the GOP is doing all they can to make Musgrave less of a KKK candidate and more like a mainstream conservative. Is it working at all? She must have been pretty scared when she saw the votes coming in on election night last year.
glad you’re back in the race, Angie!
It seems like Marilyn is going to try to be on her best behavior – and she’ll probably get more national help since she’s now been shown to be very vulnerable in this seat.
How are you going to counter Marilyn Musgrave 2.0?
Musgrave’s effort to rehabilitate her image is not affecting her votes. Even the Denver Post noted that she is still voting the party line 96% of the time. It’s about keeping her job, not doing her job.
rockin answer in the video to some really stale and offensive gooper talking points.
Just taking a brief break from calling to GOTV for Melissa Noriega’s runoff in Houston to say “Go Angie!”.
No asterisks, no parenthesis. Equality.
Welcome back, Angie! Thanks for fighting the good fight. We’re really happy to be here for you and that you’re a fighter who is willing to stay in there.
Are you ready for a primary. Too bad Dems can’t realize you can beat Musgrave this time.
My view of the official democratic party is not the most positive~anything you can tell us from your experience to give us hope?
The on-going disaster in Washington has harmed our nation. It has harmed our security. It has weakened our Constitution. It will take years of hard work to repair the damage done to the institutions protecting our Civil Liberties.
I’m ready to do this work. I’ve got the vision, courage, and leadership skills to help move our country forward.
We’ve got to get this done!
Angie,
What if anything are you doing in a different way this campaign?
Speaking of fighters, hello Jane!
Thank you, Angie.
Musgrave is really a problem for CO. I can remember in the ’70s when CO was considered a progressive state, hopefully that can happen again.
{{{{{jane}}}}}
Wow Angie,
I just watched that clip. So succinct and powerful. Could you do that like a billion more times please !?
It’s exciting that Musgrave’s vulnerability is attracting interest in the Democratic Party. In 2000, there was no Democrat in the ballot for CD-4, and that’s what motivated me to get involved and make a difference. We are changing this district, and our 2006 campaign has shown the country that Musgrave is on the ropes.
The Democratic Party provides a voice that resonates with the mainstream in this country. The country is with us.
The country is with us on issues like stem cell research, ending this disastrous war, strengthening our civil liberties again, increasing the minimum wage, and creating an accessible and affordable health care system.
CD-4 is looking for that kind of leadership. And my independent voice can provide that.
Love the video above, Angie! Think CO-04 is getting bluer and bluer these days?
I just kicked in $30 for Angie.
Thanks for running again, Angie!
Morning Angie! Thanks for visiting.
Senator Kennedy, with all the best intentions, originally supported No Child Left Behind. As badly as it’s been treated, would you propose we scrap it or fix it?
Is Musgrave a new bipartisan congress person or is it an act? http://musgrave.house.gov/News…..ypeID=1217
SteveAudio @ 19
Thanks, Steve, that’s very generous of you! Don’t forget, everyone, if you want a copy of the book, add a penny to your contribution. I know we can help Angie win this race. Musgrave spent over $3,000,000 last time, not counting what right-wing independent PACs spent on a smear campaign against Angie. Here’s where you can help counteract that.
I believe I read the guy who ran as the independent has reregistered as a Dem and will be in the primary. Is this true, and did he “hurt” you or Musgrave more in the 2006 election?
Thanks, Steve.
You know, the 2006 campaign was a magical experience. I had an incredible base of staff and volunteers that just turned their lives over. It was absolutely amazing, and anybody who was there felt it.
Many of my old staff are gathering even MORE experience now – working on other campaigns across the country.
The volunteers are even more excited to go the extra distance. We have 2.5% to go. That is the margin. We are going to get our message out — louder and broader than ever before — and we are going to get those votes.
Colorado’s Fourth District is going to be one of the most exciting in the country. We have a strong Democratic candidate to pick up a U.S. Senate seat opening up, Mark Udall. Colorado will be heavily targeted by the presidential campaigns. The DNC Convention will be in Denver.
All eyes are going to be on Colorado in 2008, and it is vital that we deliver not only for CD-4, but for ALL of these opportunities. It is important for the district, it is important for Colorado, and it is important for the country!
So Angie’s back on the Blue America list and I hope you’ll join me in donating some money to her campaign.
You don’t have to hope, at least in my case, Howie.
I’m in for $100 and a 10% tip. I wish I was riding high on the hog (like back in the nineties) so I could kick in more.
Hey Angie!
I overslept, as usual… but didn’t want to miss you! One of my favorite CDs of the last election – CO-04!
Watching you on the video, I had to say it… “Angie’s so fucking great!!”
Welcome back !
howieklein @ 21
I thought you said add a penny if you DON’T want the book, Howie?
Angie–
I watched your campaign with great interest over here in New York’s capital, Albany. I wrote about your fight and asked people to support you–I’ll do so again and again. We need your voice and 2008 just might be your time.
I know she’s very shy about this kind of thing, but Blue America’s own Jacquie is now one of the country’s foremost experts in the CO-04 media market. No one on our side knows more about it than Jacquie and that includes the DCCC. She knows the key players and they LOVE her. She was on the ground buying radio ads last year and in 2008 radio station managers will be naming their children “Jacqrat.”
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 26
Yeah, I meant that. Add a penny if you DON’T want the book.
howieklein @ 22
Since there is no paypal, I found it easiest to fill in the BlueAmerica form once, and give a monthly contribution for the next twelve months.
Thanks, thunder.
Regarding NCLB. I have been extremely disappointed with this legislation. It was introduced with the best of intentions, but ever since it has lacked the leadership it needed to implement. It has lacked funding, proper oversight, accountability, and it has unnecessarily penalized our schools in many ways.
I’ve seen a fourth grader cry because he was afraid to fail the test and hurt his school. I’ve seen too much of that. It is inappropriate for young children who have developmental problems. We’ve lost the opportunity for “teachable moments” in schools, and removed teachers’ professional judgement to ensure students’ academic success.
It has been a burden on CD-4, especially for rural schools. We can’t afford inaction or platitudes from incumbents on this issue. I will fight to lead the way.
I’m not opposed to accountability. It ensures all kids have access to high quality education.
I’m in for twenty – wish I had more. Angie, I’m so glad to know about you and I will keep up with what you’re doing. Do you have a website where we can stay up to date?
Sounds like Colorado is going to be exciting for 2008. Do you know if your other fellow progressive congressional challengers will be back? A Colorado sweep would sure be nice.
Angie, do you see any problems in Colorado with respect to voting rights.
Specifically, with the replacement of US Attorney William Leone by Troy Eid?
Angie Paccione @ 31
That’s why you’re like a posterchild for Blue America, Angie. I know you’re FAR MORE than just a good vote on issues. We need fearless progressive leaders like you. I wish there were more.
Thank you everybody for your donations. My website is http://angie2008.com.
I am very concerned about voting rights all over America! On Election Day in 2006, Hispanic voters in Weld County were targeted with phone calls indicating they would be deported if they came to vote and that they were ineligible to vote. We still haven’t figured out the source of those calls, but it is a travesty that in America in this day and age there are coordinated campaigns to suppress the minority vote.
Not on my watch.
How desperately we need Angie Paccione in Congress!
Give Senator Salazar some credit – he recognizes his replacement in the rapid rise of this brilliant candidate.
Donations to Angie’s campaign:
I’m in.
Scottir @ 37
Scottir– that will be the day we have a truly progressive country! From your mouth to the ears of all gods’ ears.
Angie – Thanks for getting back on the horse. I put in $10 this month and will do a similar amount monthly until the primary (if there is one, and I hope there isn’t). Turn Colorado blue.
Angie Paccione @ 36
We still haven’t figured out the source of those calls…
I’ve got a pretty good guess who the source was!
Angie Paccione @ 37
Marriage will be truly ‘protected’ when all Americans are afforded the opportunity. It’s great to hear someone come right out and say it, instead of waffling around with platitudes.
Hi Angie,
i like your style and I’ve got a hunch it’s more than just style. i just coughed up a benjamin for you.
i have only two requests:
1. when you get to washington, take no prisoners.
2. if any lobbyist gets near you kick her in the shins.
WOW
You are great. What a response. We need MORE dems like yourself, you get my support.
I appreciate the compliments and support.
My family taught me to stand up for what’s right, not who’s right. If you don’t fight to preserve your rights, you’ll lose your rights. It’s a basic part of our country that is being lost. Too many people are afraid to take a stand. Knowing that I have such support around the blogosphere encourages me to stand firm.
It’s my pleasure to support you, Angie. You’ll make it this time. Thanks for being willing.
All my friends here in Larimer county are with you. We are ready to walk, talk and mobilize. You just say the word.
Thanks for being here and for being so clear and direct, Angie.
Just have to add my voice to the well-deserved support you are getting today … things have been just a bit discouraging in our neck of the woods lately even with a *new* congress.
You are what we are looking for.
The saving grace for us is we DO have candidates like you that we can support to get what we need to get done in Washington for this great country.
Stand Tall.
There is a bit in the kitty for your campaign08 ( 10% for BA). Turn CO Blue as its skies. The bit played above is priceless. All the best……
I love that “Marriage is not a threat to marriage”. That is simply great.
Yay, Angie! I didn’t realize you’d be on BlueAmerica this morning. I donated $100 earlier today–go kick some Marilyn butt!
And I’ve kept my two Angie bumperstickers on my car since the last campaign. They’re holding up quite well, thank you very much, as I would expect for anything associated with Angie!
By the way, folks, one of Angie’s potential primary challengers is backed by Ken Salazar–not exactly the most progressive Dem out there. So the more you can do to help Angie early on, the better the chance that we get a real progressive in Congress.
Can we sign up to volunteer on your website or is that coming soon?
Angie Paccione @ 31
I donated to you in 2006 as well, Angie. I’m glad you are back to fight the good fight again, along with people such as John Laesch, Victoria Wulsin, Eric Massa, and Donna Edwards.
I have a dream that you all win and join together as a group that resists the blandishments of the inside the beltway crowd.
P.S. I grew up inside the beltway myself…I’m referring to the pundit-lobbyist class.
Is Ken Salazar trying to rule everything. He is a Republican in Democrat clothing. We need true Democrats in Congress. Go Angie.
BuggyQ @ 52
Don’t forget! If you want to help the Blue America PAC buy more media in Angie’s district to run another kick-ass commercial (Tommy Yum is writing a new song as we speak!) don’t forget to share a little love with the PAC as you slide your “Benjamin” into her coffers!
Mike,
A direct link to my volunteer sign-up page is here.
I have to go now. But Give them hell Angie. We are all in your corner.
many thanks
Angie Paccione @ 57
Angie Paccione @ 31
I am not opposed to accountability either but I am not sure that NCLB gives us that. I don’t believe that testing only is good pedagogy. Kids and even us big people, don’t learn from tests. We learn by doing, by activating our mirror neurons.
I want good teaching that is based on science and not political speeches. It isn’t a luxury, education is an absolute necessity.
Greetings and fifty bucks from the Western Slope. Living in John Salazar’s district, I’m glad to have a chance to support a real democrat from Colorado.
As for Ken Salazar, the nicest thing I can say about that Liebercrat is: He’s consistent.
noen,
I agree completely. I’m a big supporter of innovation in education. I spent eight years as a high school educator, and 11 years as a teacher-educator in a highly innovative program at Colorado State. I’m a strong supporter of ELOB and other experiential learning methodologies. Our kids deserve more, and we ought to give them more than just tests.
OMG! Can’t wait to hear Tommy Yum’s new song…
Yep, Jim, he is that. About the same consistency as tapioca.
At least with Udall running to fill Allard’s Senate seat, we’ll be getting a real Democrat representing us. That’s gonna tip our Senate contingent into the blue.
Get Angie in there, and wowee! Such a lovely shade of blue we’ll be!
Mike @ 59
Thanks Mike for getting that for us!
Angie Paccione @ 62
Thats great to hear. My father was a teacher, now retired, here in Minnesota. Minn has dones some good things in education. Can you run for governor here in Minn? We got this dead weight, Pawlenty, I think you could take him.
;)
Hi Angie, great video. Can the whole Dem party just use that answer word for word? Just askin’
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Minn. has always been a leader in innovation in public education, but I like the weather in Colorado!
Now, noen, don’t get grabby. She’s ours, ‘kay? I’m sure we can find you somebody good to take on Pawlenty. When you do, send her here, and we’ll throw some firedog pennies her way.
Angie’s hard work in the education field extends to far more than just a slogan (NCLB). Better and better….
“Paccione then began graduate work in education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado; she worked with Project Promise, a teacher-preparation program. After earning her Ph.D. in 1998, she was hired by Colorado State as an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education and Diversity.” – wikipedia
Angie: Thanks for being here, and thanks especially for that video! It’s time Salazar got spanked. More than past time.
By the way: I’ve got an O/T comment on Karl Rove, but I’m taking it back to the previous thread. Anyone interested, follow me and keep this thread free for Angie.
Angie,
I was thrilled to hear your straightforward, unapologetic response in the clip. We need more voices like yours. In your opinion, why are our Democratic leaders in Congress unable to state their positions with similar clarify? For example, why don’t we hear strong statements from Dems on the travesty occurring in DOJ? Or on the outing of a CIA agent? Or the conviction of a public official in the highest levels of government for obstruction of justice? These are issues where our side should be able to articulate “bright-line” positions. My sense is that the entire country is hungering for such leadership, not just those of us here in the net roots. I am feeling quite discouraged. I would love to get your perspective based on what you see in the halls of Congress.
Speaking of Karl Rove, Marilyn Musgrave is on his personal list of the most vulnerable Republican incumbents in America.
Angie Paccione @ 73
Well he’s got The Math, so who are we to argue?
;)
Well the wisdom of fighting a war on two fronts with limited allied participation is something to highlight.
But any time there’s talk of the war, the reminder needs to be that we’re losing the home front on things like job security, education, health care, personal liberties.
Asking ours to fight in the role of uniformed service, and dismantling the good faith and credit of our budget and way of life is something that should be addressed.
I remember when Musgrave was named person of the week by ABC News…touting her awful accomplishments as if they were a good thing. I thought “There goes your handbasket!”
Wonderful clip…what a contrast!
I do have a question.
How do you counter the usual GOP reply to attempts to raise the minimum wage, or to raise gas taxes? Here in Minn our roads are litteraly falling apart and yet we always get grief about trying to raise the gas tax to pay for road repair. Or when we try to raise min wage we get the “If you raise taxes you will drive business away.” Sort of like “If you try to raise taxes on the rich (so they pay a fair share) then your business climate will suffer and you will lose jobs”
How do you counter those kinds of arguments?
I can’t speak for anyone, but I am happy to “say it like it is.”
If you are willing to step up and serve in elected office, then you have to have the courage to speak out on the issues just like you describe.
I’m not interested in just being a congresswoman. I’m interested in doing the job of moving our country forward.
I’ve been a pioneer. I’ve done that with my athletic career, with my career as an educator and a teacher of teachers, and as an elected official.
I’m a person who steps up and steps in where there has been a leadership void. There’s a void in the Fourth District. I’m ready to step up and step in and fill that too.
Angie Paccione @ 79
Re-write that quote to be generic, and it becomes a great manifesto for anyone who wants to run for office, or improve America.
Thanks, Angie.
Please frame the discussion in terms of our obligation to the hopes ours in service uphold.
They should come home to a country where full employment and living wages are realities with Americans looking for work.
They should have a model participatory and preventive health care program that becomes a standard for making universal and catastrophic coverage a mandate.
We face challenges to America’s way it conducts business, provides energy and fuel, and interacts with the larger world community.
Thus education and new technology, the revitalization of infrastructure, should be top items.
Angie Paccione @ 78
Thank you SO MUCH for running again, Angie. Jax is right; America is HUNGERING for the leadership you offer… I will do everything in my power to help you win the next election!
A little late to the party, but I’m in Angie. I am so very grateful that you’ve decided to keep at it. As hopeful as I was with how Act Blue candidates did nationally in the last elections, I felt just sick that you fell such a wee bit short of finally giving Colorado the sort of representation that it deserves. And even sicker at the last-minute tactics that were used against you. This time will be different; everything that you started then can only make you stronger now. And as for that clip? It’s that kind of clear speaking, common decency, and courage of conviction that will keep me backing you — in any way that I can — every step of the way to your election. Go Angie!
howie at 22 says
Thanks, Steve, that’s very generous of you! Don’t forget, everyone, if you want a copy of the book, add a penny to your contribution.
howie-
in your post at the top you say to add a penny if you DON’T want a copy of the book.
which is it?
great post as usual, am just now catching up-
Angie @74: Kickin’ some Rove butt. All the better!
Thanks so much, Angie. Stay strong. America needs more like you!
dmac @ 83
Sorry for the confusion. Add a penny if you don’t want the book.
I’m in for Angie, Blue America (can’t wait to hear the new song!) and Donna Edwards while I’m at it.
My wife is a college professor and museum teacher, and from her experiences I’m very concerned about the impact of teaching to the test on critical thinking skills. In addition, the effort that museums have to put in to justify school field trips by showing how their programs satisfy test requirements is just appalling. (And putting on my tinfoil hat, I think that punishing schools where kids are struggling is insane and probably intended by radical conservatives to undermine the public school system.)
When a Republican state legislature (VA) repeatedly votes to demand waivers from NCLB, you know there’s something seriously wrong with it. Testing, especially standardized testing, is not accountability.
As a teacher in a rural public school I am interested in what can be done to help ‘my’ kids avoid the poorness that is ever present in their parents lives. The view here is that the number one antidote to poorness is education. Any thoughts?
Angie, hopefully you can help steer CO back into being a progressive blue state. I’m not sure how the change occurred, but it’s time for a change.
Good luck!
Redshift @ 87
Thanks! You put us over the $1,000 mark. If anyone is still looking for where they have to go to donate to Angie’s campaign, it’s right here.
noen @ 78
Point out that the states that follow that philosophy most completely are ones like Alabama and Mississippi, and ask if they want their state to be another Alabama.
But most important, don’t let them talk about taxes in isolation, and talk about taxes as an investment, not just a cost. Businesses like tax breaks, but not at the expense of everything else (unlike radical anti-tax extremists who think that nothing else matters.) They like tax breaks, but they need infrastructure, an educated workforce, and quality of life to retain workers. These things aren’t free; if you don’t invest in them, you won’t have them.
That’d be over $1000 plus my $100 that went direct to Angie before this thread opened. Go Angie!!!
Howie,
This has been great! Thank you again for having me. I’m going to hang in for another 10 minutes or so if there are any more thoughts out there people would like to share.
Thank you again for your support, and for believing in me, and believing that we can bring change to Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District!
Angie Paccione @ 74
Another fine fundraising slogan:
“Donate to Angie and make Karl Rove cry!” ;-)
Last time our funds were so limited, we could only afford to buy radio spots in the outlying counties, A/K/A Republican strongholds.
At one station, the rep was so excited to be running the spots, and went out of his way to thank us for doing what we were doing. He explained that living in such a GOP area was discouraging; hearing the ads touting Angie and kicking Musgrave’s ass inspired him and his other Democrat friends to work even harder to GOTV.
Post-’06 Howie has lots more intel on the “lay of the land,” so we know exactly where to most effectively target our media buys. If you can afford it, please consider donating to Angie’s campaign and throw a little to Blue America PAC, so we can “Throw Musgrave OUT!” Remember – even five or ten bucks make a difference!
Angie, we’ll be here for you right ’til your inauguration in January of 2009. I hope you’ll come back again as the campaign progresses. We’ll invite you of course, but if anything comes up, be sure and let us know. By the way, I interviewed Hilda Solis– our guest next weekend– and she was RAVING about what a great colleague she thinks you’ll make in the House.
Angie—
Thank you so much for coming here. It has been eye opening.
It was a privilege to be one of your supporters in ‘06 and we’ll be there for you in ‘08.
Thank you so much for running again, Angie. You’re going to do great work for us. And thanks for being here. I don’t know what we would do without Howie and Blue America.
God bless you.
Thanks, again, Howie and Jaqrat. I have so much admiration for Hilda Solis. She was a great supporter of mine and a great help to our campaign in 2006.
If we want things to be different, we’ve got to do different things. That means speaking out. It means standing up and having the courage to stand for our convictions.
Our democracy needs it. In fact, our democracy demands it.
I’m not going to be intimidated by anything in this race. I know what it takes to go the distance, and I am in it all the way.
Best to you always!
I’d be certain to get items that each Presidential candidate plan on making policy, and use that to connect that message to yours at times when it best benefits the constituents you plan to serve.
Thay way it can focus on positives and strengthen the message for a better America.
Also, speaking from Colorado you know the value of the high ground. Policy that lacks the foundation of moral certitude to human rights is tactically weak.
Without the high ground of America’s reputation shaped around respect of rights and process we limit the chance any policy abroad will be successful. That puts troops at greater danger too.
You can connect on these items, restate the case for morality within a plurality. America has diverse roots and common purpose and that is its strength.
There will be a great challenge to the progressives upon their victory in 2008. It’s called the ‘follow through’.
Understand this: if my party wins in ‘08, the fight has just begun. And I am up to it.

I am correcting something. From “if my party wins in ‘08″, to ‘when my party wins in ‘08′.

Angie @ 100: Wow. Just. Wow. Totally.
I know most attention has moved on from this thrad now …
We’ll vote for Angie again if you run!
And folks, be careful w/ Mr Udall… He talks a good game, but his actions in the House have not been exactly progressive. Esp’ly around the war. I’m concerned about getting another Liebazar with him. Of course, he’ll be better than Allard, but we can aim for more than that.
It’ll sure be great to see Ms Muskrat go down this time around though!

That’s why I keep trying to figure out the differences (if they exist) between Rudy Giuliani, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Seems to me Clinton and Obama may be getting a free ride by using the Democratic party label when nobody really knows if they’re really Dems or just Republicans in sheeps clothing.

Since poorness is defined as lack of wealth it becomes utterly apparent the simplest solution is to give a poor person money.
Of course, there are a lot of people who don’t want to do that as it would make them feel like schmucks for spending the days of their lives working to get their money.
Thus, if you want to address poverty you generally have to go through Hell to create any kind of program(s) which help poor people without offending everybody else.
If you’re talking about long-term solutions then education definately comes into the picture, though I don’t think it’s the sole answer. In my state education is pushed pretty well, but the business environment is so sluggish that there are no jobs for college graduates — they all leave the state.
I tend to prefer a more complete all-around program of helping the poor and at the same time encouraging business expansion so even the poor might be employed.
Dear Angie,
Good luck with the race, and thank you for your strong voice on the fundamental rights of all Americans. I hope to see you in Washington, DC, one day.
