***BREAKING NEWS: Subpoena to be issued for former White House Counsel Harriet Miers. MSNBC reports that two subpoenas were issued: one for Sara Taylor for July 11th, one for Harriet Miers for July 12th. (H/T to twolf1 for details.) More as I get it on this.***
UPDATE: From the AP -- it is two committees issuing the subpoenas. And here is a longer article version.
GSA head Laurita Doan testifies today before the House Government Oversight Committee. C-Span3 is broadcasting the testimony live, including on their streaming feed online. Buckle up -- and wipe those water glasses, because you never know who might want your fingerprints. (Little joke from Ms. Doan's last appearance, for those who missed it.)
[Photo of fingerprint on water glass via John.Nathaniel.]
Hearing has begun this morning. Rep. Waxman begins by saying that today's hearing will not concentrate on the prior issue of hatch Act violations and other matters with the Jennings presentation on "helping our candidates." This information has been detailed substantially by Scott Bloch, the IG at the GSA. Rather, this hearing will concentrate on whether Doan made false statements to the committee, whether she tried to retaliate against GSA employees who testified to the committee and/or provided information regarding matters under investigation and also acted in a way which was otherwise problematic after the hearing.
Waxman waking through all of the statements -- saying that her prior statements about GSA employee performance information that she provided appears to be false with regard to comparisons to their employment records. "Unsubstantiated accusations are always wrong." Waxman says that whistleblowers must be protected and that Congress has an obligation to look into whether or not bonuses or promotions are being withheld to punish employees who cooperated and told the truth to Congress. Berates members who think this is "no big deal."
REP. DAVIS OPENING: Davis isn't sure what they are doing this morning with Doan -- we've lost track of the "good government" agenda that we wanted. Davis says that no retaliation against employees occurred, but the retaliation is actually being done against an African-American entrepreneur who supports the Bush Administration. Says this hearing is a farce. Walking through where this is mean versus where there might be substance. [CHS notes: Doan was looking cranky through Waxman's opening, but is sitting with a Cheshire cat smile during Davis' opening. Guess that Novak article quoting Davis about Doan wasn't just a random act of partisan support. This could be interesting today.]
Thus far it is deflect, deflect, deflect. And Davis now brings up Valerie Wilson and tries to suggest that Valerie's testimony was inconsistent with the Senate Intel. Committee GOP report add-in from the Phase II report. [CHS says: Quick, look over there -- shiny obect!] Says that Doan was simply inadequately prepared to talk with the OSC -- and wants a subpoena for Valerie Wilson to address her "irregularities" from her testimony.
Rep. Burton and Rep Davis now putting on a bit of a show, Burton griping that he didn't get an opening statement, and then Davis demanding that Valerie be subpoenaed. Davis withdraws his motion for subpoena now, and says he'll work with Waxman on this. [CHS says: Wonder what other political theater we'll have today?]
DOAN OPENING: "I'm human, and imperfect, and I make mistakes. But when it comes to GSA, my heart is in the trim. The results of this past year have been spectacular." Listing all the things the GSA has done well over the past couple of years. Talking about the leak of the Special Counsel's report, and its impact on folks at the GSA other than herself. [CHS says: She has a point on this.] Doan saying she will do her best to answer questions, but doesn't want to say bad things about her employees.
Waxman now rebutting the Davis accusations of partisanship -- listing a point by point rebuttal to Davis. Says that just because other folks may have done worse, it does not excuse Doan's conduct and violations of the Hatch Act.
REP. BRALEY QUESTIONS: Talking about Doan's conduct and whether it violated her position of trust to retaliate against employees at GSA who cooperated with the House committee. Going through prior Doan testimony statements to the committee versus contradictory statements that she made to the Office of Special Counsel during their investigation. Says that she testified that all of the employees who spoke with the Committee had poor performance. Doan says that Braley needs to understand the context of the question asked -- says that OSC asked for her to speculate on why something might or might not be. Braley says that the transcript does not reflect that this was the OSC question. Doan says that they did, indeed, ask her to speculate -- and points to places in the transcript where the OSC did so. Doan says that she should not have speculated, says she did so because she was trying to be compliant and cooperative. Braley asks if she had counsel? Yes. Did your counsel raise objections to questions? "No, because in the first hour of the interview, we got into a bit of a spat." Doan says that some of the questions to her "got pretty wild."
[FYI: The Speaker's blog has a clip of Waxman's opening statement up for folks who missed it.]
REP. WAXMAN QUESTIONS: Back and forth on Doan's claims of being picked on and Doan says she doesn't remember saying that.
REP. JOHN MICA: Parliamentary inquiry. [CHS notes: actually, political theater dressed up as a parliamentary inquiry, but I digress...] Wants the Office of Special Counsel head to resign and/or staffers. And he's still blabbering on and on...Davis yields him 30 seconds to blather on again -- says that this is a three ring circus, and has never seen somethng like this. Waxman notes that this is what Mica said the last investigation. Mica also wants a motion to have an investigation of staff or special counsel to find out who leaked the information -- has never seen this happen. [CHS notes: He must have slept through the whole Dan Burton shoots a watermelon to prove that Vince Foster was murdered/Barbara Comstock PR campaign years, then.]
REP. DAVIS QUESTIONS: Did you tell any GSA employees to help political candidates? Doan says no, she would never do that. Talking about bonus versus not bonus, "poor performance" rankings of employees. Lots of grousing about the OSC transcript being released to the public and how she wouldn't have taked about this -- says on original draft, it was "employee A, B and C" but in final draft that was leaked, the names were put back into the paperwork. Davis says they should pursue that to see why that was done. Davis talking about "refreshing recollection" from media reports.
REP. MICA QUESTIONS: Mica says that he warned her that "they were out to get you." [CHS notes: Jeebus, this man really creeps me out with his smarm act. He makes Burton look halfway sensible. Blergh.]

Stepford Wife smile
EPU’d:
In written testimony, Ms Doan thought her remarks were confidential and blames OSC for breaking her privacy. She refused to provide personal employment records but OSC reviewed and all employees who testified had satis factory records. She didn’t just disparage employees, she testified under oath that until employees improved, they would get no promotions, bonuses, rewards. She feels that retailiation is fine as long as done in secret. That ain’t happenin while I’m in charge of this committee Whistle blower protection act is why they have rights
Finally showed Doan.
Here comes Davis.
Big Henry trying new procedure–10 minute bank of time for Davis.
LAT article about Waxman finding new info to chase, but nothing about the Condi letter.
Davis, R-VA is playing apologist and just can’t understand why they’re here today. Nothing to see here, move along,
oooh. henry is trying out something new - giving 10 minutes per side. humbly, that’s not enough time.
Davis for the life of him can’t figure out why they’re there!!!
Davis - can’t figure out why I’m here
Uuuughhh! Here we go with the distraction techniques - Davis. How tiresome.
Davis played the race card in the 1st 60 seconds or so.
oh good. I found the mute button.
Davis slapping down OSC and report. Good government is not necessary. She’s politcal appointee so she should be allowed to be political. No due process rights, never saw report., denied access to her own testimony for hearing. No footnotes, exhibits, twenty people interviewed but no id.
Davis: She is being retaliated against for being a highly successful African American woman.
Things came undone. I left a response on last thread. If you feel like answering now great. If not I will certainly wait for your response.
No allegation of asking how agency could help our candidates just that she asked how could we help out candidates.
TiredFed @ 11
Yes, I think I will go back to my tutorial for the next 8 minutes.
Oh please : By that standard, singing God Bless America could be violation of separation clause…
Ringing doorbells, caging what’s the big deal!
Breaking from CNN - (from downstairs)
Sara Taylor (fmr. WH political director) AND H. Miers getting subpoenaed today.
Just think about Davis’ job these days and how he feels when he goes to work, knowing that Big Henry is leading a brigade of investigators and lawyers who can’t wait to get to the shop and bring down the bad guys. But I guess Davis has a good example of how to be the ranking minority member, after watching Big Henry forced to take a ton of BS for 12 years.
By the way, Davis, no one is listening to you as you try to throw sand in everybody’s eyes…
No cases cited, No controlling legal authority.
Boy the rethugs ddo like that No controlling legal authority meme don’t they.
Now Davis is trying to bring Plame/Wilson and testimony into the picture to absolve Doan? Is he Nuckin’ Futz or what?
Davis “short hop, skip and a jump to the office of Karl Rove” Sounds like a frogmarch to me keep hopping
Anybody watching Von Spaz and DiFi? Has it started?
A huge portion of Davis’ constituents are civil service government employees who fully understand the Hatch Act. Whether he runs for re-election or for Warner’s senate seat, I am going to personally make sure they know about this crap.
Davis: I don’t like this hearing so I’m gonna start another one.
Plame mention…
Wow, Davis is such a little turd. He has to try for the last word, courtesy of Comstock and Toensing.
Christy, this is gonna be much more fun than reading the Libby diatribe. That can wait. JMO.
This is UNBELIEVEABLE! WTF does Valerie Plame have to do with Lurita Doan playing politics with the GSA and retailiating against whistle blowers. How stupid does he think we are? (don’t answer that)
Why is Davis talking about Plame? Just taking the soapbox time to take a shot at her?
Henry’s trying mighty hard not to laugh!!
Doan smirking at Davis statement…
dakine01 @ 30
Well, the two cases do have “retaliating against whistleblowers” in common, but somehow I don’t think that’s what Davis is going for… *g*
Waccamaw @ 19
The latest docdump makes it pretty much inevitable. I still think Scott Jennings needs to do the rounds: Waxman, Conyers and Leahy.
Jesus Mary and Joseph…Davis is another traitor! Another radical attempting to undermine Valerie Plame who put her own life on the line for National Security! Outed by officials in the Bush administration, attacked and undermined by some in the press, and then representatives like Davis continuing the public rape and humiliation of Plame.
Davis should be hung out to dry
Will the hypocrisy, lies and manipulation ever end?
Davis wants Valerie back to “reconcile inconsistencies in her statements to committee.”
Here is the big ‘denial’ from Davis that will probably be the last shot from that side of the aisle (if there is nothing there then they are free to leave the hearing and have a cocktail)….again the loyal bushies stand up….speak nonsense…and then slap each other on the back on how good little sailors they are….while the ship itself is sinking by the stern….hoping that Captain Bush and Engineer Cheney will save them before they go under….
aaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh
Morning all!
Davis is a piece a work, eh?
DO watch Waxman’s face, when the camera pans beyond Davis’ pasty countenance.
filibursting won’t be allowed, i hope…
Davis finished. Now we return to reality. Oops, no. Davis still out there in the twilight zone.
Davis wants to subppoena Valerie. Hank says , Hey she came volutarily before so why subpoena. We’ll talk later
Ms Doan, we swear witnesses so please swear before siting down.
I would like to see Plame rake Davis over the coals. Davis is a slime bucked!
1,545 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Bring it on Davis…keep openin’ yer mouth and changin’ feet!! God God these people are not only stupid, they think we are too!!
Waxman telling doan how to use a microphone. cute.
Saint Lurita begins the hagiography of her martyrdom.
dakine01 @ 30
Talk about playing politics. He has to bring this up at THIS hearing? No, he can’t just talk to Waxman about it outside the hearing room.
Doan: I helped bring down the Berlin wall.
“I was there when Berlin wall went down. Today I’m in similar situation as admin of GSA. I do best I can as admin trying to straiten things out. My heart is pure and I down spectacular things this past year, Restored confidence of two largest customers. Walk on water, only sinking to knees a couple of tiems, Great place to work…
Wow, Davis needs to read the CSPAN banner so he can find out why he’s there. Maybe they can slip him a note.
I never intended or imagined that my testimony would become public and I’d get caught.
Give Doan a hammer and chisel. Let her start chipping and doing her part in taking down the wall that she helped build!
Nice that Lurita can yammer on about her “accomplishments” while Valerie is still fighting the CIA over talking about her job.
mygawd. the woman saved the world single-handedly, in her own mind.
okay okay… *gets caffeine & promises to hush & listen like a good lil’ pup*
Statement from Von Spakovsky: First generation immigrant, my family is a success story, wonderful country, blah, blah. Our numbers at the agency are great. We are fast. We are bipartisan. Policy changes to speed up our good works.
The Repugs are such hypocrits it always astounds me. They pull this shit and then say it’s political theater!
Why don’t you ask me pleasant, helpful questions? — Doan
Mandrake @ 49
He knows how to blather and grandstand but I don’t know if he knows how to read.
Now Lurita Gotchee Doan asking why they only want to hear about her crimes and not her “accomplishments”.
Adie @ 53
I like to hear the snark. Don’t hold back.
Doan….Answering questions for “no good reason”. Hellow Doan have you ever heard of congressional oversight?
No one asked me about GSA accomplishments justa game of gotcha and I’m the gotchee. I made mistakes and now hung out to dry. Actions and facts irrelevant. Accused of politics when AI had best intentions. Fault me for not responding properly to hypotheticals
Now SHE palys minority card grew uup in ninth ward NOLA…
anyone else having trubble with C-Span sound cutting out? Dang! & done was only on her 3rd day of re-creating the world….
Hank got already to swear her in, then several people made comments, and then they went ahead without swearing her in???
Bob in HI
“Gotcha” speech sounds like it’s written by a 9th grader. Corrosive? Ummm, why not talk about politics and their place at the GSA? I believe you started it, Lurita.
Now playing the race card.
Good morning from L.A. Thanx so much for this a.m.’s live blogging, CHS.
Having flooring put in today- what a mess, but I’m finally able to get upstairs to the tv & computer in my home office. Waxman hearing on tv, Rules & Admin. on computer.
Back to radio silence during your live blog…
Rove coached her in being sassy and disrespectful!
Race card played. “I am being harassed”
I learned at Berlin wall that change is difficult, I broke off piece of wall after forty or fifty whacks and that’s what I do at GSA…
Bob Schacht @ 62
He made her swear before she sat down…
Shorter Lurita: I intend to stonewall.
“The culture of gotcha is inherently corrosive.”—-Doan
“I JUST wanted the best person for the position!”—-Doan
She says she was ‘interrogated’ for 9 hours.
Grew up in 9th ward New Orleans. Goody, now can you answer truthfully?
kathleen @ 65
She’s even throwing in a Berlin Wall story to appeal to anti-Commie right.
Oh Mrs. Doan, need a crowbar to get off of the cross?
-GSD
Wax: It starts with “They’re out to get me. Then a political hatchet job.
Wax pointing out that OSC is Republican appointee. That Grassley was involved. Other people done worse is complaint and justification.
Mandrake 58
you’re sweet. but i’d hate to wear out the hamsters. surely the whole world is hanging on this woman’s every utterance.
DANG! NO SOUND!
seems all of the repugs are smirking at her statement. she’s not that cute. they like her little Ms. America “save the world” speech? whut?
BREAKING: Lieberman asked to resign by head of “Connecticut for Lieberman” party (CFL): http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/6/13/63147/2224
Doan “Praise in public, criticize in private” And if you do criticize me in public I am used to that because I grew up in the 9th ward in New Orleans and am used to being harassed, intimidated and humiliated by white people!
Oy Vey!
Mr Braley: I’d like to take yo back to 5/31/06 memorable day I’m sure.
Doan: Day I was sworn
B: Do you remember your statment
D: I’m sure you’ll enlighten me.
B: You said yo wanted to return to Truman days of GSA as shining agency
Adie @ 72
Don’t you doubt they will be regurgitating how fantastic she is for tearing down the Berlin Wall and all her fantastic service to her country.
Okay, I just love how they keep blabbering about how this is all politics - well, yeah, it’s all about politics - using government time and resources to advance a Republican political agenda.
That’s a crime.
Doan’s part of the Safavian crowd. She’s the thread on the sweater.
The Stepford Wife smile is creepy.
Braley going over her 5/28 testimony and how it conflicts with her testimony to OSC. She is SO cooked.
D: Important to understand the context of question
B: important to answer the question just asked
Bet she takes the “Fifth” in the next 5 min.!
wigwam @ 73
well, that sounds like a dandy idea, albeit a bit late in the game, doofus.
B; We don’t want you to speculate and doubt if OSC asked that as well.
D; Look at this page at end and that page at beginning they asked me to speculate, I shouldna done it. I regret doing that. I was trying to be compliant and thought it was confidential.
Speculate…not fair
“I did it because I thought it would be fully confidential”
In other words, I didn’t think I would get caught.
Great! let’s subpoena Rove now!
Phoenix Woman @ 77
Ooooohhhh! I’m a knitter. Where’s that end?
Just yank it really HARD & keep pulling, & that should do the trick…
Lurita: Let me show you my *real* self: “I’m, umm, a bit of a bitch”.
I am so tired of these fucking liars.
-GSD
D: It’s possible that recollections change. That’s the contxt
B: were you represented by counsel?
D: I had personal counsel with me
B: Didn’t he rasie objection?
D: in attempt to be more forthcoming after I wasn’t in beginning
This woman wields a mighty shovel.
Could she be any creepier?
wow. they always start with “poor performance.” dont they ever learn? she pissed off how many civil servants with that asinine statement?
So even if she was speculating, was it proper or fair for her to have said that these folks had “poor and totally and inferior performance”
D: there can be no retailiation since reviews were held far in advance
She’s not answering the questions. She’s bullshitting.
OT - Wes Clark on MSNBC
Well, she’s had a crash course at the GOP School of Bullshit and Stonewall since her last appearance.
Jane Hamsher @ 92
No, no, no and no
Where is Doan’s shovel and pick! Did she leave them at the wall in Berlin? She needs to start chipping at the wall that she has helped build.
She’s telling BRaley he’s full of it and contradicting him all the way!
Wax: I’m going to make rhetroical statemnt . First picked on by your ig, then by us, then by OSC.
D: I don’t believe you show it to me so that I can see context…
Doan is flowing the typical Republican mo. Stall, stall, stall and the preveracate. How many weeks has she had time to prepare and be coached for this hearing?
“With your sharp memory…”
Henry’s snarking, Doan is shuffling papers. She just gets wackier and wackier.
man, this is already frustrating.
Are they still using the 3 minute rule? If so, it works to the Republicans favor.
Rayne
ygm
Parliamentray inquiry from Mica but he’s BS’ing Wax pushes him to get to it. Mica: leak either from OSC or this committee who leaked to WaPO this draft report…
Wax” gentleman is not making parliamnetary enquiry
She did say I grew up in the 9th ward in New Orleans and am used to being hassled, intimated and humiliated.
Can we get back to investigating penis stains on blue dresses. The nation demands this accountability stop.
-GSD
Mica: I have been on this committee for fifteen years and never seen an invest run like this a three ring circus.
henry. turn off his mic!
MSNBC expanding on Sara Taylor and Harriet Miers being subpoena-ed. Mark your calendars for July 11, kids.
Wes Clark talking reality on Iraq and effects of the surge… who could have anticipated that MSNBC would take significant time from its Paris coverage to *gasp* report news/information.
Once again the Republicans try and bully there way to help the witness. When are the Dems going to take off the gloves and slap these sob’s down. Waxman lets this fascist drone on and on.
Who just raised parliamentary objection? I’ve got sound only.
oh my. BIG pause when asked if she remembered what was special about the day she started her brand new job.
note to self: back off on meds just a tad…
i luvs how she pretends to shuffle thru her papers, the WHOLE stack(!), muttering to herself, every time they ask a reely reely harrrrd question.
taking wagers here on the exact time the whole stack spews across the floor during the hearing.
this is better than a Broadway production.
unfortunately not cheaper…
foodfight! micaWAXMAN 10:54EDT yeehaw!
The Republican plan is to raise irrelevant issues and go on and on about them.
Mica: I wnat investigation of staff or osc to determine who leaked this info. Never seen an investigation proceed in this manner.
Where was he during the Clinton years then? head up his a**?
yellowdogD @ 113
Mica
It’s a Republican tag team. First Mica now Davis.
Interesting that the rethugs manage to show up for House hearings & not Senate hearings.
Jane Hamsher @ 92
1st appearance wuz purtygood ;->
Ms. Doan, I wonder how your consicience allows you to lie in order to benefit the people who work so hard to keep African-Americans from voting and from returning to live in the 9th ward.
Your soul must be shriveling into a charcoaled husk by your continued lies.
-GSD
Who’s the guy behind Davis with the boogie eyes?
[Sitting there staring like a robot.]
DAvis back stroking her about how GSA doesn’t do things like that. Doan” meeting happened MONTHS after evaluations done… Of course, that doesn’t cover evals for next year…
TiredFed @ 93
Agreed — and it’s stupid, because AFAIK every Federal agency has a performance review system in place. Which means there’s a paper trail.
Here in HHS, your boss goes over it with you in January, you have another meeting on it in about July or August, and the final review in December or January. Each time there’s a review, there’s a place to sign and date the document. Every performance plan lists what the employee has to do to achieve a good rating.
Kicker: You get a signce copy of the document after each of these meetings. All these whistleblowers have to do is produce their copies. I’m willing to bet Doan is lying about the “poor performance” bit.
Who is this wank who is more concerned about a leak about this investigation and I will assume he has not been concerned about the Plame leak? what a buffoon!
Wes Clark, challenged about Lieberman re: facts on the ground in iraq, and comments vs. iran.
Joe Lieberman cannot even defend his own political party, what would he know about defending the country by serving in uniform?
As for Doan, these jokes wanting Parliamentary questions(usually regarding nomenclature)to be undertaken as null points should be asked to tender resignations if such is found to be irrelevant to proceedings…
ask that fool Davis to put his money where his mouth is. Tell him to put his own standing on the line if he’s that confident in hers.
You get no bread with one meat ball…
kathleen @ 125
Mica of I believe AZ.
Damn, I gotta go to work and teach Business English! I wish it was my American History class so I could talk about this! Keep it up firepups, I want a good summary when I come back in 5 hours!
Slothrop @ 115
With a huge dollop of indignation and egregious rudeness and bullying
yellowdogD @ 113
Mica (R - duh)
The game is simple. The witness lies and the Republicans on the committee give them cover. The Democrats are caught flat footed and huff and puff.
If poor performance were a qualifier for outster the AG Vp, and President would be gone from office…
THis is a big piece of bullshit on Doan’s part–because she’s the one who leaked teh final draft–the one with the names!!!
Mauimom @ 122
if he laughs at his boss, he gets fired, before he gets fired…
Mica from Florida.
Another grumpy cracker.
-GSD
Don’t get frustrated, kids. I remember waaaaaayyyy back watching the hearing Dorgan and McCain did with Italia Federici and all her dissembling and paper-shuffling and look how nicely that turned out.
Truth will out.
So confused about why someone would leak this info and hurt those poor employees with this bad review information. Why would ANYONE do such things to those poor employees. Crococdile tears aboout to start falling and the little catch in the voice. Davis drones on…
So far, the GOP is in control of this hearing.
emptywheel @ 134
Marcy, How do you know? That makes this whole thing beyond belief.
Why the hell would HER lawyer be allowed to attend the hearings of other witnesses Mr Davis. WTF is that about?
dakine01 @ 116
My thoughts exactly. They want a three-ring circus, let’s give them one.
Doan “leaks are so wwwrong”
Davis rags on Plames testimony, Mica rants about leaks about this investigation, next they will bring up lies about b/j’s. Why should we have any faith in this system when we watch Pubs be so twisted?
Ms. Doan, did you ever attend the Karl Rove seminar that taught you how to lie, obfuscate and prevaricate during congressional hearings?
-GSD
Mica, Davis, Burton a real cage match tag team.
Leaks, they mean to say it was leak of a report traditionally offered to the press before officially being before Committee, or a report issued after the Committee…
so getting mad about someone else reporting your being wrong is grounds for investigation?
Doan is one arrogant woman, no respect at all for the justice system. Just the way the Bush administration likes it!
Snippet from Spakovsky.
DiFi: 4 Questions on voting rights. Your name has come up in judiciary committee. First involves Georgia.
The Photo ID. You wrote article under pseudonym against convention (supporting?). Employees objected to the rule. In 2005, did you have communication with any state legislator while bill was being debated?
Spak: Yes only to explain HAVA.
DiFi. Did you get data about voters not having drivers license.
Spak: I didn’t recall. I only advised assistant attorney general or principle deputy.
DiFi: what was your legal advice.
Spak: My advice was privileged. But I will tell you I believe they made correct decision.
DiFi: Minnesota. New rule issued by Repug preventing tribal id cards. You ordered Joe Rich head of voting rightss pretty much not to investigate and to listen to Schlozman, and only contact secretary of state. Barring investigation.
Spak: Senator, I don’t remember particular case. I got so many emails, 100 a day. Don’t remember complaints.
DiFi: Do you recall conversations with Schlozman over this. Over possible violation of state statutes(?) that violated fed law.
Spak:( Schlozman was Spak’s supervisor at time. )
DiFi: You recall nothing about 200,000(?) native Americans not being able to vote?
Spak: Blah, blah.
Bennet: Do you think voter ID is a good idea?
Spak: Sure I do. Congress thought so when it passed HAVA.
Durbin up now. Serious questions have been raised about whether you are interested in voters rights. Georgia ID was disgrace and stricken by Fed Court.
Davis was going to yield time to Burton but he needs more so to Mica so he can stroke her about how Wax and all are out to get her.
M: did yo initiate political briefing?
D: No
M: did you see it before hand?
D: No
M: you’re a repub, minority, woman so they’re obviously out to get you. Scott block conducted investigation and he’s under investigation did you knwo this?
D: smnirk no
Here come’s the “Clarence Thomas” high tech lyncing moment.
Mica is a horses ass.
“A minority, a republican, a women” and that is why the piggy Dems are chasing your butt.
Sheeeeeeit.
‘You’re a Republican minority woman party contributor and they’ve targetted you…’
Urge to slap right through screen.
They leaked a summary ex post facto… or made faux outrage over the traditional press feeder beforehand… probably good measure of both in hops of trying to make someone confuse the two over process debate.
Oh my Mica “you are a Republican, a minority, a woman” what a bunch of horseshit!
Cummins: You said “I don’t think gov’t employees should be political”
D: what you talking about
C: you’re wasting my time pay attention
“Yes, some of that, mmmmmmm”
GSD @ 136
nowww, be careful there fella.
there are crackers, and there are crackers ;->
http://www.firedoglake.com/200.....pper-fits/
Brisingamen @ 124
That “poor performance” bit worked so well for AGAG, that Doan’s trying it now too? Sheesh!
I can hear the answer now: “Paperwork? We don’t need no stinkin’ paperwork!”
C: you and your husband Repub Regents that means you raised a lot of money
D: you don;t have to raise the funding, you can give your own money.
Cummins using an e-mail to her husband from same day of big meeting when she was trying to become GSA head. He’s got her e-mail from before about using GSA to swing black votes to gop…
Ms. Doan, do recall the support that Mr. Bush and Mr. Rove offered to African-Americans Colin Powell and Claude Allen after they were no longer useful to them?
-GSD
Boston1775 @ 141
From this post. That’s what OSC found after they did an investigation into the two leaked reports.
Understand–the first leak was the one that called for Doan’s firing. The second (final) one, which was much less harsh, is the one that someone at GSA leaked, after Doan received it.
Micah- nice hair dye.
Meanwhile Cummings is noting political activity in her move to GSA…
Cummings ripping it up!
mui @ 148
If he can’t recall, he can’t be the head of the FEC.
Shit, I get 100 emails a day and I only forget a couple.
F*ck this Nazi!
Oops. Durbin getting good.
Durbin bringing up article written under name “publius” on George voter ID by Spakovsky. He asked did Spak get clearance.
Spak: Sure I did. And I stand by contents as well.
Durbin: Why did you remove article from FEC website.
Spak: I was no longer working on these kind of issues. The controversy from those darned newspapers was interfering with the work.
Durbin: ( Digging into the travesty of Georgia ID. Asks if Spak aware of study on African Americans less likely to have photo ID.)
It’s a national disgrace. Repudiated by courts. But you don’t seem to be convinced.
One bank robbery doesn’t make one a crook.
Cummins calling BS on her. “When we combine Everything, it looks to be a pattern of non-truthfulness. Where do mistakes end and truth begin.
D: this was from before I was apptee and had training in hatch act and such. I can’t give you context but I was private citizen.
Now back to Davis for apologia
Hi hautbois! ;->
Why does Davis have the microphone again?
She admits to being “unfamiliar” with the GSA procedure. Certainly she should not in position with that fact evident.
Everything you need to know about Doan and Davis at Beltway Progressive blog, seriously, you should ask this woman to guest post.
Sorry, but Chambliss is up on Spakovsky. Knight and shining honor for Hans.
Yes Mr. Davis there is something wrong with being an African-American Republican in this day and age.

dakine01 @ 168
Context appears to be the word du jour.
If Doan was a bank robber, Davis would be complimenting her for using the American banking system.
She was a recess appointment?
Because if not, and she says she’s unfamiliar, check that email date before any appearance(either legistlative body) re: her review for the position.

Paging Mr. Waxman!
Paging Mr. Waxman!
Mr. Waxman, to the FDL Blue Courtesy Blog!
It’s all Sandy Berger’s fault. If not his Bill Clinton’s.
Slothrop @ 139
Yup.
Hey! Davis tells us Black African American Republican Woman Entrepreuhnooers are just regular, special people to HIM!
well how nice of him.
Chambliss: Voter IDs not peecuuular in Georgia. Polling is off the charts. Voter ID found favor in poll.
The repukes are really indignant today. Oh the travesties that are happening to these poor repukes. Burton is just saying that Valerie Plame broke the law?????
The Republicans have had a strategy for every hearing. The Dems are floundering, flat footed and just sitting their taking the Republican bs.
Dan Burton says Valerie Plame broke the law? What law was that?
Rep.Burton should be censured for failure to recognize procedure, Berger was required by law to destroy any copies he had in possession out of archive and then notify, both of which he did.
Berger called the authorites, nobody from Bushco. has re: their own trespass of law or procedure.
But but but CLINTON!!!!!
Deflect, Accuse, Confuse
Spare us.
Dolt is confusing Stephen Hadley with Sandy Berger. How Freudian is that?
Now even bringing up Clinton. How empty are these guys.
Hello, the Republicans were in power until January of this year and if they had wanted to have Valerie Plame testify they could have.
Republicans can not distinguish between oversight and witch hunts.
This conspiracy lunatic is definitely off his meds.
What the hell is wrong with these Repukes who can’t stay on point? Burton says Hadley can’t be brought in?
Oooh look, shiney object!
The Republicans aren’t interested in getting the facts but use these opportunities to smear the Dems and the Dems just take it. They are weak and far too polite to these fascists.
Arca @ 186
the entire Republican Party Platform in a nut shell
Can’t help but think watching the many hearings that Waxman is overated.
Rep.Burton should be given a warning for contempt of Congress for questioning persons not in attednance…
Mr.Murder @ 192
Then why doesn’t Waxman warn him?
I don’t think the repubs care a whit about doing anything except filibursting the hearing till it’s overdonegone.
I wanna know why no Dems but Cummings seem able to find a sharp stick in their pile of weapons.
Whut’s wrong with these people. Mush ain’t gonna do it.
It’s a matter of the record for Democrat questions, the Repubs are blowing hot air.
She has name the persons she mentions anonymously.
Hold her to her statements of record.
The Republicans learned their lessons well from Watergate to Iran-Contra. What did the Dems learn? How to play nice with an enemy that is determined to turn the United States into a one party state for the forseeable future. Get a clue Dems.
Adie @ 194
I think the word you’re reaching for here is:
filibuster
The interview process she talks of hints at obstruction, trying to perhaps intimidate or coach witness testimony beforehand.
They interviewed persons to be named for GSA/Special Counsel testimony?
Through it right back into Burton’s face. That’s the ticket.
They set up a review structure to interview persons before official GSA procedure? That’s clearly a Hatch violation.
“We had one hundred people flee the country or take the fifth?”
Wen Ho Lee being made a statement of committee?
Get those pics of Bush’s inauguration and Katrina Leung?
Brisingamen @ 198
actually, no. i said what i meant.
they’re not just filibustering.
they’re trying to burst the seams of this hearing and cause a food-fight.
thanks for the attempt to help, tho.
/snark
The RealPlayer link for the Spakovsky et al Hearing at the committee on rules and administration site is really shaky. Wish there was CSPAN link.
DiFi reading letter on how Spakovsky corrupted practices. Apparently a litany. Why should we put *you* in charge of FEC?
Spak: Many of the things in those letters were frankly wrong, Senator. I don’t know why these people are making those claims. Probably political agenda.
DiFi: There’s a real strong reaction against you (letters). Really. A real problem on the Democrat side.
Spak: Texas, etc. Arguing that the courts that overturned his decisions, didn’t *really * overturn his decisions.
DiFi: Neverless they were overturned. Wants a point by point rebuttal *in writing.*
Spak: OK.
Bennet (reading article): DoJ stocked with librul activists and complaints against Spakovsky blah blah.
Rep.Tierney notes Doan’s prejudicial statements against persons in GSA.
Bennet finds WSJ article sh*t.
Keep in mind these statements are predisposed bias, not the accepted definition of prejudice as we know but even more concrete an affirmative illegal example of bad behavior…
Now if we could compare the persons stated as not worthy of promotion, review the internal disciplinary list, and add her bias statements to the policy we can match an affirmative review, perhaps even of classic discrimination.
She denies ever threatening employees.
Well, that appears to be a pretty good case of perjury.
She doesn’t have to threaten directly. The record indicates affirmative bias.
It’s all about Israel” (whats behind the push to bomb Iran)
http://www.antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=11132
“The question before the house is this: should the United States exhaust itself militarily, economically, and psychologically in order to ensure indefinite Israeli domination of the Middle East? To the Israel Lobby, this is a no-brainer: of course it should. Anything less than unconditional support for Israel’s strategic objectives would be anti-Semitic and “hateful.”
