ZED!
Took you guys long enough to notice I was here.
Well, I just got here, so that’s my excuse. Welcome, Trex! Was your break relaxing?
TRex @ 3
I just let them know downstairs, TRex. They’re up to their ears in discussing Conyers’ and Ried’s failings.
TREX. I was cussing that no one told me there was a Late Late Nite until I saw it was you.
So the ? is kissing guy or writing a book?
TRex! How’s the authoring bizness going, guy?
Welp, maybe he’s already back to authoring.
Bloody book, bloody writing.
Gang, I spent my break not writing a word. Washing clothes, doing dishes, watching movies with that boy with the shoulders, occasionally poking my nose in here. It’s been a real vacation.
I was just peeking in on Mr. Mencken’s thread to see how things were going and saw 520-plus comments and thought maybe I should chum the waters a little.
YOU PEOPLE ARE ANIMALS, YOU KNOW THAT?! INSATIABLE ANIMALS!!
TRex @ 9
But you love us anyway, don’t you? *cheeky grin*
You know these authoring types Loo Hoo, when the Muse calls …
Some authoring … crashing blogs, appearing on Talk Radio, dating cute guys … what kind of writeous fuckery is this !!! *g*
Love ya even though you have not written a word on the book, big guy. Glad to see ya feeling frisky again.
Petrocelli @ 12
…research?
TRex @ 9
We also miss you terribly !!!
… and that’s no joke …
what’s this about a writhing block?
Pah to the book, it’ll come when it’s ready. Did you enjoy your break TRex? Do you feel refreshed?
TRex @ 14
… smacks forehead … so that’s what I’ve been doing wrong !!!
ducking out, with a curious vision in mind: Joe Lieberman encountering the wrath of an enraged southern politician.
Good for you! Everyone needs to do that occasionally. We missed you, but boys with shoulders have certain benefits, shall we say, that blogs never will. ;)
TRex:
You had to do it, you just had to do it! Couldn’t help yourself.
Bless you, my scaly son.
But you write with apparent ease around these parts, TRex. I’ll bet writing a book might be tougher cuz you kinda have to stay on topic for a long time. Here, you can just go with what inspires you at the moment…
You guys will be happy to know that I have spent the evening introducing my new phone to my MacBook and the two machines have been happily swapping files back and forth.
My ringtone?“Possible Maybe” by Bjork. The MP3. The song starts with a wonderful kind of electronic purring sound.
My wallpaper?
Grainy Black and whites from The Third Man.
Why anyone would settle for the factory settings is beyond me.
They shipped it with a shitty counterfeit battery, though, so I’ve got to scrape up another fifty bucks for a real one.
punaise @ 19
Any particular politician? Any particular kind of wrath? How’s about right on the kisser?
Yeah, TRex got his phone. Not quite snoopy happy dance but happy dance nonetheless.
TheOtherWA @ 20
Are his shoulders wide enough to land a Boeing 737 on ?!!
TRex @ 3
What ARE you doing here? Other than providing a public service to relieve the server, I mean? Aren’t you supposed to be on vacation???
Cheerio,
Bob in HI
Well, on that note, my eyes are crossing. It’s very late. Good night, everyone. See you Wednesday.
Thanks for the lift, big guy!
g’nite TRex, sleep well
look, i’m going to keep saying it until it catches on.
no more $$ for dems!
Hey, what’s up?
TRex @ 28
And on that note, I’ll get back to writing my book …
G’nite all, it’s been a blast as always !!!
(waving to skippy and steve audio)
hey jacqrat
I’m still not sleepy.
Hey, TRex!
Congrats on your eclectic musical taste, and thanks for the Ella vibe. Totally pwns Mama Cass’s cover (which was still pretty OK).
GrahamG @ 36
Now. let’s be
kind to Mama.

Dark news. Howdy twolf1.
Here’s another take on the same incident. No mention of the Police mistakenly firing on American troops first as in the first article.
Afghans say 7 police killed in U.S.-led strike
Good morning.. errr… good evening… or whatever. Hi newtonusr!
punaise @ 43
Gosh, that’s some coincidence cause I heard we also should accept no substitute! Must be the real deal or something. (brat grin)
Morning. 2:20 where I am, about to fold it up and sleep, but had to poke around a little.

Answered there, npb. And I concur.
Finally, nite FDL.
Harry Reid has to stop bringing up bills for a vote and hoping that the Republicans read the latest polls that day and decide to support him. I’m sure that enough Republicans shine him along and SAY that they are on the fence on the issue and MIGHT vote his way. When the vote happens they pull a Lucy with the football to his Charlie Brown. Harry has to start hitting the Republicans were it hurts Money which is all they care about. He has to tell the hard core Republicans who are not up for election that we Democrats have nothing to lose by closing their military bases in states we don’t think we will carry in a Presidential election if they DON’T start supporting his bills.Plus our troops need the money more than South Carolina for example needs to worry about being attacked. If Harry continues the way he is going he is going to get tagged as a showboater who wastes Congress’s time bringing up bills that won’t pass when he could be passing laws. I’m sure that is exactly what Bush will say in September when Harry tries to bring the troops home. That Congress is wasting time on political votes that NEVER PASS when the troops need money. His goal is to bring the Democratic Congresse’s Poll numbers low enough that the Democrats in September will be afarid to oppose Bush.
Good morning pups. It’s Bobo and Mr. Herbert in the NYT today. Bobo’s telling us we don’t understand the immigration debate, and Mr. Herbert says that all American children should have health coverage, not just rich ones.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
Cofee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I snipped some fresh herbs from the garden and added them. They smell delicious! Have a great day.
If that does not work then we should start targeting the laws that benefit Bush’s biggest political contributers. That and the funds congress gives to Republican polticaly connected companies Blackwater comes to mind. Just an announcement that a Democratic Congress will not bail out the Nuclear Power industry if they have a meltdown so they should beef up their safty procedures and buy more insuarence (we could claim we are letting the invisable hand of the market make a choice about nuke power) could send General Electric stock into a dive. That plus we could get industry to stop giving the Republicans money for fear of pissing us off. Harry has to stop being nice God everyone thinks Rahm was tough so far we have done NOTHING like what the Republicans did to Unions and our power base over the years. We have power now lets use it!
Good morning pups!
twolf1 @ 86
I thought Muller had resigned? I assume this is payback by Bush for the book. Planes are expensive if he stole that amount of money I’m thinking major felony theft, but people who cheat the government never really do time so what do you think he will be charged with?
Morning all, watching MSNBC. Scarborough is attacking the court decision about holding ‘enemy combatants’. Apparently, the show’s format is that he is balanced by a more liberal black man and white woman. But they’re not very strong at debate. I’m not even sure what the woman’s leanings are. She barely speaks. If they want Joe, then balance him with Rachael Maddow. Get tired of saying this. We need a strong, well-informed liberal who is quick with her facts and a strong debater.
gonna get epu’d I know but I might not be able to repost this on a pertinant thread cuz I’m gonna be busy at work
anyway, all over the tubes we find the whurlitser is telling us how great a campaign clinton is running, how she knows what she’s doing, how she’s not making any mistakes
look for that one, “she’s not making any mistakes”…it’s the new talking point they’ve all been mailed
at any rate, they REALLY want clinton to be the democratic candidate, they think she’s gonna be the easiest to beat
keep an eye out for that, that’s what’s gonna happen, corporate media is gonna promote hilary for the primary and do s swithceroo for the general election
things come undone @ 90
Considering the current constitutional crisis the country is in, it will be rquisite to dismantle and eliminate those factors which have brought it about. To do so, accurate identification of the perpetrators is necessary. Without facts and a working knowledge of both economics and history, no usefull judgments can be arrived at. Both history and economics are darkly obscured by myth, propaganda, dissembly, and misdirection, all of which must be overcome and the subjects brought into the light of day and be given the widest public dissemination. Otherwise, the attempt will fail, the perpetrators will escape only to re-attempt the conspiricy at a later date when guard is lowered (as it was done this time under disguise of “law & Order”, “moral majority”, “read my lipps”, “wouldn’t you want a beer with…”. Somehow, the public must be included and brought to appreciate the power inherent in fact and coaxed into demanding established fact as their standard of acceptable conduct. I haven’t a clue how that can be done but if the constitution is to be restored, it certainly must be attempted otherwise all is lost.
solai @ 93
Mica Bryznyski is the the newsreader. She and Ridley [he has a post on Huffington] are there for visual balance. This is all about pushing Morning Joe.
Who even as we speak is ranting about leftwingers emailing his show. Hey, says he, the rightwingers don’t do that to him. Because they’re not watching the dipshit perhaps? They’re over at Fox infusing the propaganda directly to their lizard brains.
CNN reports that Fitz filed papers this AM asking that Scootie be held in Jail pending his appeal.
This is HUGE!!!!
This ties together Saudi royality/Bush/British gov/Thatcher and Son/Arms/Billions of hidden money/Hidden companies/deep, nasty secrets.
Hmmm, seeing as ‘Little Bush’ has just lawyered up huge, it might being interesting to see who else is lawyering up….
This is going to shine some light into some dark, nasty places.

Questions over secret bank transfers
· £13m allegedly paid to firm linked to lobbyist
· Family says payments not connected to Saudi deal
David Leigh and Rob Evans
Monday June 11, 2007
Guardian
The arms company BAE Systems used a secret payments system to transfer more than £13m to a company linked to David Hart, the controversial former Conservative defence adviser, according to legal sources.
He has acted as a lobbyist both for Britain’s biggest arms company and also for the giant military manufacturer Boeing in the US.
Mr Hart, an Old Etonian who lives in a Suffolk mansion, became notorious in the 1980s for helping the then prime minster Margaret Thatcher break the miners’ strike in an operation he ran from a luxury suite at Claridges hotel, in London.
BAE is alleged to have paid the money into a previously unknown offshore company linked to Mr Hart called Defence Consultancy Ltd (DCL).
The company was registered anonymously in 1997 in the British Virgin Islands, with a bank account in the Channel Islands tax haven of Guernsey, at the Henry Ansbacher merchant bank. Mr Hart’s late father, Louis “Boy” Hart, was the bank’s chairman.
This is the latest allegation to emerge from corruption investigations into BAE, being conducted by prosecutors from three countries – Switzerland, Sweden, and the Serious Fraud Office in the UK.
The family of Mr Hart, who is seriously ill at present, say that none of the payments were linked to BAE’s al-Yamamah arms deals with Saudi Arabia – worth £40bn. These deals have been at the centre of corruption inquiries. Mr Hart’s family said he did not personally “own or control” DCL.

yup. they are on the way to Christy. 43 pages. just digging in now.
Arnie @ 95
I agree a post on this subject during the day when we could get more input would help. We have to start thinking of what we will do next after we take the Presidency and get a bigger majority in both houses. We need to plan!

MoD accused over role in Bandar’s £1bn
· BBC says officials processed payments
· Goldsmith refuses to answer questions
David Leigh and Rob Evans
Tuesday June 12, 2007
The Guardian
Pressure was mounting on ministers for full disclosure of the government’s role in Britain’s biggest arms deal last night after claims that the Ministry of Defence directly administered payments of more than £1bn to Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia.
The MoD refused to address the specific allegations, made in BBC’s Panorama, while the attorney general, Lord Goldsmith, continued to stonewall questions over his role in the affair. BAE, the weapons manufacuturer at the centre of the controversy, remained silent.

ok. here’s Fitz’ bottom line on the whole thing: “The statute provides in pertinent part that a defendant who is not a flight risk or a danger to the community,1 and who has been sentenced to a term of imprisonment, “shall” be detained pending appeal, unless a court finds that the appeal “raises a substantial question of law or fact likely to result in – (I) reversal, (ii) an order for a new trial, (iii) a sentence that does not include a term of imprisonment, or (iv) a reduced term of imprisonment less than the total of the time already served plus the expected duration of the appeal process.” 18 U.S.C. § 3143(b).”
None of the issues raised by Libby’s lawyers on appeal are substantial or likely to result…. Fitz goes on for anopther 40 pages. Will have to look at the footnotes (the fun stuff is always in the footnotes).
TiredFed—
I’d be happy to help comb thru the Fitz papers.
Nifong’s misconduct trial starts today
Page 4. “Even if a question is determined to be “substantial” within the meaning of § 3143(b), the defendant must also show, as a second step, that a resolution of that question in the defendant’s favor would be likely to lead to reversal or the grant of a new trial.”
Yeah. How likely is that? And how likely is Walton going to think it is?
Do Republicans just not do their homework or do they only tell half the story on purpose? Case in point from page 5: “while defendant has argued (Def. Mot. at 2-3) that it is not necessary for a judge to predict the probability of reversal in order to grant bond pending appeal, the governing statute clearly requires that the court find that an issue cited by defendant presents a “substantial” chance of reversal.” (my bold)
teevee watch, cont.,
crawl on MSNBC says that Joe Lie says we should consider a strike on Iran because of their continued involvement in Iraq.
Also, another bridge was blown up in Baghdad yesterday.
And people were wondering why we spent so much time and effort on the Lamont-Lieberman race.
oooh. here’s a good one: footnote on page 6:
“Defendant contends that it can be inferred from the length of this Court’s written opinion that the legal issues presented constitute substantial issues for appeal. Def. Mot. at 5. It is a strange sort of logic that infers that the likelihood of reversal increases with the thoroughness of a written opinion.”
mornin’ e.g.
jayt @ 115
somebody needs to point out to this military moron that if we left Iraq then there would be NO attacks on Americans in Iraq “supplied by Iran …wut an idiot
he needs to be edumicated IMMEIDIATELY, the Irainians are NOT fueling the insurgency, we are…the Iranins are are enemies of al qaeda
this gut is a real idiot
TiredFed @ 117
thank you for the morning chuckle… that’s a good one!
a refreshing change from the mundane: “Defendant’s contention simply cannot withstand scrutiny.” uh. that means “bullsh*t” right?
Morning all and thanks to TiredFed for wading through Fitz motion.
Fitz issues a reminder to the Appeals Court: “(”The Supreme Court has told lower federal courts in no uncertain terms that we are to leave the overruling of its opinions to the Court itself.”). For these reasons, the chance of reversal by the Court of Appeals is, at best, remote – certainly not “substantial.”
Christy upstairs
If I believe God……created……evolution, where do they count me at Gallup?
Fitz even touches Scalia: “Justice Scalia’s dissent in Morrison explicitly stated that had the Independent Counsel been removable at will, even in his view of the Appointments Clause, the Independent Counsel statute would have passed constitutional muster.”
Fitz’ point here is that his appointment as Special Counsel is on solid ground since he was removable at will.
Fitz deals with the Bork amicus curiae filing in a footnote (a long one, but merely a footnote).
TiredFed @ 127
how much of the 43 pages is foot notes?
selise @ 128
quite a bit. maybe 1/4 of it? and they are single spaced, while the body is double spaced.
selise. ygm
jayt@107 — saw that. Now waiting for him to refer to rightwingers as those knuckle-draggin’ sheet wearin’ tabaccy chawin’ righties.
In the interest of his self-professed moderation, in the middle balance, of course.
/snark
TiredFed @ 114
Do Republicans just not do their homework or do they only tell half the story on purpose?
Yes.
and he mentions the VP (in a footnote of course):
“The defendant’s failure to call those witnesses, including the Vice President (who was present with the defendant during many of theintelligence briefings and could offer better testimony than the briefer Mr. Schmall as to the defendant’s responsibilities)….”
