Here’s the Sunday morning line-up for the talking head shows. (Partially via AZStar.)
ABC’s “This Week” — Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz; Time magazine’s Jay Carney, ABC News consultant Torie Clarke, ABC News’ Claire Shipman and George Will; Amanda Fernandez, Poetry Out Loud national champion.
CBS’ “Face the Nation” — White House press secretary Tony Snow; Sen. Joe Lieberman, Connecticut independent.
NBC’s “Meet the Press” — Former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
CNN’s “Late Edition” — Sens. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., and Evan Bayh, D-Ind.; Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman; Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez; Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M.; former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark.
“Fox News Sunday” — Snow, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
Lots of Tony Snow — lots and lots and lots. The Colin Powell interview on Meet the Press could be interesting – or nothing but a lot of hot air and equivocations. I’m betting on the latter, but will be very happy indeed if it is the former because who couldn’t use a bit of truth on a Sunday morning?
Today’s gorgeous photo of a Canada goose and goslings is from Julie’s Magic Light Show. Loved this shot, and thought we could all use a little adorable today. Bob Geiger has some spot-on political cartoons ready for the browsing — my personal favorite is the pass off of the “go directly to jail card.” Anything catching your eye on the blogs or in the news this morning? Do tell…

I just missed it. Spent too much time confirming “how I know people” on Facebook.
Now, anyone have questions you’d like to see Colin Powell asked?
It amuses to see how very “diverse” the talkers are this morning; especially since most appear to be to the right of Attila the Hun…
Got your Facebook page set-up yet Christy? ;})
Why hasn’t Powell been indicted or questioned by Congress?
looks like beautiful day here…
hugh’s list of bush scandals made it to the front page of reddit, with lots of comments. major props to hugh!
don’t know if this is legit to ask… but would you-all consider clicking the reddit link and giving hugh an up point (just click on the up arrow by his item on the list)… that will keep in on the list for a bit longer so more people can see it.
I meant subpoenaed, not indicted.
Wow, I’ve been a bad boy on Facebook. I’ve asked too many of you to be my friend, so I have a hold placed on friends requests.
dakine at 3 — Not yet. Am still trying to figureout the whole facebook thing. I’m so woefully techno-challenged. Truly. Thought I’d work on it a bit this week, tinker around and postup a link for everyone at some point. *g*
Three of the shows have no Democrats. Late Edition is 3-2 for the Publicans. Only Fox has even numbers.
Compared to the competish, looks Ailes’ crew are the fair and balanced ones. ‘Spose that raging liberal Durbin will get a word or two in?
Media Matters had them minding their P’s and Q’s for awhile, but now it’s back to business as usual.
Wasn’t Rice supposed to testify last week? Or is that this week coming up?
The big news (if you discount what’s her name) seems to be about Bush’s meeting with the pope, apparently incorrectly addressing him, calling out to someone else “How ya doin’?” and then sitting through the meeting with the pope as if he was at a TX barbecue. Maybe we could have heard a little more about how Bush sold out the planet at the G8!
For some reason, C-Span’s Washington Journal info didn’t have the Sunday schedule up — and stil doesn’t. I think they may have a glitch. If anyone is watching this morning (We’re watching Little Einsteins here this morning thanks to The Peanut’s request.), could you please post what’s on if you think it will be of interest to others? Thanks!
3 dems out of 19 appearances. fucked, much?
colin powell is still part of the Bush (I and II) regime and a loyal Bush soldier. He is very concerned about how his actions at the UN prior to the war are interpreted by history, but he is not aplogetic for what he did to promote this war. It’s just a big “oops” to him and it really doesn’t bother him all that much. Did we expect anything different?
Hmmm, Powell’s coming out of hiding? I’ll be watching. Maybe he now views Bush/Cheney to be weak enough to attack. He DID issue a statement about the Military Commissions Act but other than that he’s been invisible. Maybe he’s trying to repair his own legacy. Maybe he’ll be the strongest voice against attacking Iran. Maybe he’ll say we must leave Iraq. Please, God, let him be a voice of reason.
Happy Sunday everyone. Just finished feeding my birds, ducks, squirrels and cat. Went to Josh’s and just had to LOL at this exchange:
From Josh:
Q: And the deadline for the Kosovo independence —
BUSH: What? Say that again?
Q Deadline for the Kosovo independence?
BUSH: A decline?
Q Deadline, deadline.
BUSH: Deadline. Beg your pardon. My English isn’t very good. (emphasis added)
Christy Hardin Smith @ 12
Wash. Journal just now was taking calls on “Looking at the Edwards Campaign” (and platform I believe)
The Administration liked to portray Powell as the dissenter, the one who insisted that the UN be involved, etc., but I’m not sure how far I buy it. I think it’s just as likely that they used his gravitas and character as proof that the debate about war in Iraq had run its course and the only option left was the war. In truth, Powell was much more the Bush stooge than he would have us believe.
Have you all seen GoLeft TV? Robert Kennedy was talking about it on “Ring of Fire” yesterday.
I cant bear to watch the “heads” this morning.
http://goleft.tv/
solai at 15 — I’ve been hearing rumbles that Powell has been nursing a bit of a grudge against Cheney for quite a while now — not a surprise there, really, but interesting that it’s become enough of a rumor that other folks have passed it along the rumor mill enough that it got all the way to my not-so-connected-to-the-GOP ears in terms of specifics. And I’m wondering if this morning’s appearance will dovetail at all with the Libby sentencing, given that Libby wrote the initial draft of the Powell UN speech at Cheney’s behest — the one that Powell refused to give on the whole and ended up reworking, according to Wilkerson. If he talks at all about that, it could get interesting.
But it is Powell, so who knows whether we’ll get straight information out of him or backpedalled, wishy-washy-ness.
thanx for the early post christy I was getting restless, here at panera with no body to talk to but my Friends at the lake of fire and dogs
need some input from my friends
gonna give away my 86 Mercedes, someone have a favorite charity?
this is not a fixer up er, though the body and drive train are perfect there are so many little things that need replacing before the car can be driven that it costs more to fix even in parts then the car is worth
so, who has some input which charity for me to give this thing to…of course I would like a tax credit to go with it so it has to be an official charity
I finally got all my caladium bulbs in the ground yesterday, Christy. I hope it isn’t too late. My procrastination lingered longer than usual this year. Normally, by this time, my neighbors woud be seeing red over here. We’ll see.
dakine01 @ 3
But at least we have that “liberal” Joe FLIEbuhrmensch to balance things ; ‘ (
Awhile ago – couple of weeks or so – some of us were trying to find out who the ’secret senator’ was (no relation to ’secret Santa’ or ’secret pal’ BTW)regarding an FOIA bill sponsored by our Patrick Leahy and */cough/gag/* John Coryn.
So, I stumbled across who this secret senator is last night.
perris @ 21
I think Pach had someone who needed a car. I don’t think it was an official charity though.
perris @ 21 –
good for you!
what state are you in?
perris at 21 — A lot of states have a program through their department of health and human resources to give away refurbished cars to families that are working to get off welfare. Might be something to look into in your state. You generally get tax credit for it — and you get to help a family that has been vetted for need and the ability to make use of the car already. (At least, that is how it works here in WV anyway.)
as far as the talking heads I have a request for anyone that has contact with any of the progressives on the TEE vee today;
they need to get ingignant when the libby thing is brought up…they also have to force the topic, then they have to call libby what he is, a traitor that committed treason, a man protecting the people that committed treason
libby is the man that protected those people that actually lied to get us into a war that they knew would harm national security, and the people that think nothing of exposing our vital assets in order to protect their own depravity.
I want the democrats to stop pussy footing around, get indignant and challenge the patriotism of ANYONE that thinks libby shouldn’t go to jail for his treason
emptywheel just started on C-SPAN2.
holy crow…I thought the republicans think love fests are for democrats…this is gonna be sickening..someone tape it cuz I can’t stand the thought
Face the Nation: WH press sec Tony Snow; Sen. Joe Lieberman (CFL); roundtable of WaPo’s Colbert King and Politico’s Roger Simon
I know this is because they made a CBS deal, but still, wtf?
Also, no Libby, I’d say, from this.
Hi all, I watched the Colin Powell interview this morning at 8:00Am(On Early beacause of the Frech Open, Go Nadal!)I’m sad to say that it turned out to be “nothing but a lot of hot air and equivocations”. I didn’t hear anything new. He had a chance to tell the truth about being used by this admin, but he declined. It was very sad and a big fat waste of my time…
Christy Hardin Smith @ 27
I believe ny has that program, will look into it…nice suggestion…thanx
eCAHNomics @ 29
Thanks! I missed her the first time this aired.
is anyone having trouble loading their comments?
I have to start a new page, the spinning wheel thingy keeps telling me it’s still uploading…my first comment way up top is still loading as are all of my comments.
might be the isp here at panera though, I don’t know
also even though flash player is updated firedog lake still crashes browswers christy.
try to figure out what’s breaking the tubes here I think it’s getting just about everyone
eCAHNomics @ 29
Thanks for the head’s up!
Noonan @ 34
Maybe THAT’S why I’m up so freakin’ early!
Baby geese! I just saw 5 baby geese yesterday at our botanical gardens. They swim great but are kind of clumsy walking. New skills, like this message, my first from new computer, my first mac. I kind of identify with the young ones.
Good morning Christy!
perris @ 35
Just hit F5 again after a second or two.
selise @ 5
ask and you shall receive. may want to repeat the request when the left coasters join us.
selise @ 26
I’m in new york
TruthSeeker @ 32
Sorry to hear. He must like the antique cars that get delivered to his doorstep. I’m so disappointed.
perris at 35 — I’ve been having trouble with the IE/ActiveX interface for weeks, and not just on FDL. Try turning off the ActiveX control unless you want to watch a video. That has beenhelpful for me. No idea what the problem is with it — lord knows I’m tech-challenged — but that has solved the browser crash issues for me for the most part. The only time I have a problem now is when I turn ActiveX back on to watch a video or a streaming hearing and then forget to turn it off again afterward.
good morning Redd. (have I mentioned I hate laptops?). wouldn’t it be just dandy if Keith O had a Sunday morning talk show?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 43
I’ll get someone to look at the page and see what’s breaking the browser
TiredFed @ 40
thanks TiredFed! i won’t be able to… leaving momentarily, but perhaps someone else will pitch in.
perris @ 41 -
can’t help you with specifics for ny, but i was thinking of donating it to a catholic worker house – they can always use the help… and they provide a lot of help to the community they are located in.
TiredFed @ 44
Or Bill Maher. Or Jon Stewart.
Hate to be a bummer on Canada geese, but they poop a lot. Here’s my latest: Sunday of Memorial weekend, I’m having a BBQ for 50 people at my country house. I get up at 7am, on my back porch sipping coffee, when a Canada goose at the top of the back lawn, about 50 yards away, spots me an tottles down to within 10 feet of where I’m standing. We have a staring contest, which ended in a draw. I went inside to refill my cup, whereupon the goose tottled onto the porch and took a poop. When I came back outside, he gave me a jaundiced look and in his own good time wandered off the porch, back up the lawn, and eventually flew off. I was happy to see him go.
I have to start a new page, the spinning wheel thingy keeps telling me it’s still uploading…my first comment way up top is still loading as are all of my comments.
My experience since late last night is you get the uploading spinner, and you hang, but the message still gets posted. Start a new instance, or reload FDL, and the comment is there.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4
Slightly OT: While I love to bash David Broder, his piece in this morning’s Post on Judge Walton and Libby’s sentence , although not perfect, is remarkable progress for the Dean. If we could only get him past the “no underlying crime” crap.
snowbird42 @ 19
sounds like they need to hire “the voice.”
Many from my party, and some Republicans keep mentioning “September”. Know what’s going to happen in three months? Zip. Talk, talk, talk…
eCAHN at 80 — That’s freaking hilarious. *G* And yes, they do poop a LOT.
eCAHNomics @ 48
Can you train him to be part of Bush’s press briefings?
jayackroyd @ 49
ya, I think the lake should go back to their format before the issues started to happen until the bugs are resolved…for instance the tool bar doesn’t work for some of us
I have some people that are gonna come by and look at the source to see if they can figure out what needs to be changed but they might not get here for a day or two
perris @ 28
oooh. indignant. i like that!
allan_in_upstate @ 50
TeddySanFran got the first comment and I skimmed through 7 pages of comments after posting mine and there were two that looked like they MIGHT be considered positive for Broder. ALL the rest were politely calling him an idiot.
I have also been hanging on posting comments. Mac latest OS on G4iBook and safari browser so it appears to be problem across the board.
back on topic somewhat
the repukelicans have begun their marketing blitz and they are doing everything possible to get a pardon for libby
we HAVE to get the democrats to frame this in the proper light, we HAVE to get them challening the patriotism of ANYONE that suggeests a pardon
that’s the first thing, now for some ocnjecture
bush has been too firm claiming no pardon, especially now that we see his polls are so low he’s gonna do anything he damn well pleases
I therefore believe the cia has something over bush’s head…for instance;
“you pardon this guy and we will expose this”
that’s my feeling right now though it doesn’t hold too much water since the cia is certainly not happy libby is the only one paying any price at all
FYI-This isn’t the only site having problems. I was somewhere (no clue where) and they were telling their readers that they have reports of crashing and they thought it was being caused by one of their ads but they didn’t know which one and to hang in there while they figured it out.
Very bad grammer but you get the point.
eCAHNomics @ 29
THANKS! back l8r
the comment problem is gonna cause some loss of traffic and comments here at the lake, it’s also gonna use unnecessary bandwidth reloading instead of refreshing
I have some people that will probably look at the site some time today but the webmaster should go back to more stable format…should be done asap imho
solai @ 59
probably the same webmaster or format…they need to go back to a stable format
We cannot go back to the old format, folks — the software had to be upgraded. Period. Change is hard, but having the site crash altogether would have been worse. We don’t just randomly decide to change things around — truly, we do this crap for a reason. But a little patience while we troubleshoot and debug would be much appreciated because, frankly, it is a lot of work behind-the-scenes to do something like this with a site that gets as much traffic as we do, and our tech folks have gone above and beyond for us to make this is smooth as possible, depite the little kinks that are yet to be resolved. So, let’s all take a deep breath and be happy we didn’t get to the point where the site crashed altogether (which was where we were headed before the latest upgrade…).
‘Morning, Christy, FirePups…back from spending the day yesterday up north at a family event. Love the family, but really hate being out of the loop at the Lake. [sigh]
perris — because the car is not in running condition, or needs quite a few repairs that the average impoverished family can’t afford, may I suggest that you consider auctioning the car off on eBay or through a local auto auction house, take the funds you receive from the sale and donate it to a charity of your choice, like perhaps one that helps impoverished families (St. Vincent de Paul is my personal favorite)?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 63
ah, didn’t know you were having some crash issues
well, I do have some experts that will take a look at the source, I hope they can help
Marcy Wheeler on C-Span 2 right now!
What?? The loop tape of GWB’s Greatest Moments wasn’t available? CBS should hang its head in shame.
Sunday morning talking brains. I’m once again not up to the challenge.
I have not looked at comments in late night threads to see whether this short ThinkProgress post has been mentioned: Doan report delivered to White House
According to an article from which ThinkProgress quoted, she will be testifying Wednesday before the House Oversight Committee.
cinnamonape @ 23
Hey, if you check it out, Atty the Hun was a real liberal sort of guy, barbarians being what they are.
perris at 65 — The folks who have been doing the work on the Wordpress issue for us are really experts at Wordpress. They are doing an excellent job working around what our particular, individualized needs are. Since we just upgraded on Thursday and have already worked through about a dozen kinks without most folks even noticing, and are continuing to work through them as I type here, truly a bit of patience would be great.
Please folks, continue to note issues as you find them in the comments — that’s helpful. But we cannot switch the site back. It just cannot be done due to techincal needs that we had — for both the short and long term.
Hmm, predominantly Republicans, and clueless Jay Carney. Typical lineup.
perris, Ive donated quite a few cars to charity. Of course you don’t get as good a tax credit as you used to. Anyway, here in upstate NY, the Central Assoc for the Blind runs ads asking for your cars. Sooo easy. I call them, they come pick it up.
Rayne @ 64
I never did the ebay thing..don’t have an account, never ever bought anythig from them…though my dad has a great antique store and I’m sure he can get some stellar prices for some of the quite unique items he has so maybe this is my oportunity to wade in
hehe…he sold some original dr pepper bottles including soda and rusty cap for like 10 dollars the crate…I was sure he’d get like 50 bucks per if we ebayed the stuff
[ebayed=new verb invented by perris]
I don’t know that folks are necessarily complaining, Christy – just ‘reporting.’
Speaking of Canada geese. The college I attended had flocks of geese that loved our lake. They also loved the double wide walkways to and from buildings. They didn’t seem to poop much on the roadways. However, the nuns wanted a solution that wouldn’t harm the geese. We had a herding dog and she worked wonders for the poop situation.
solai @ 73
that’s what I need, simple one call done type thingy
thanx for the help
eCAHNomics @ 29
Thanks! I missed her the first time this aired.TrueBlueMajority @ 66
We all owe the programmers at C-Span a huge thank you for replaying this during the Talking Heads time on TV. Something to watch that doesn’t make me want to scream!
This is going to be an interesting experiment with Facebook. A local land and water trust org wants me to assist them marketing. Their goal is to become a household name around here. One of the avenues to achieve it that I was kicking around was a social network site.
FWIW — no problems from here, although I’m not computer-saavy enough to tell you what we use. Tube knowledge very deficient.
eCAHNomics @ 29
She just answered a question about how the Pukes control the corporate media, saying that they mostly do it by blackballing reporters who print things they don’t like.
This raises the question why can’t the Democrats do that?
Is there any way we could pressure the Democrats to stand up to the media? This is big– I think most people here would agree that the media is the main hurdle the Dems have to overcome.
Wow, that is some anit-progressive line-up.
If the democratic congress does nothing else, it needs to breakup Big Media. Failure to do so and America continues to die.

re:solai comment 15
Powell is, in military parlance,”a water walker” and has been his entire career. This is the guy who promised General Westmoreland that, in his capacity at the Joint Chiefs, he would thoroughly investigate the rumors of a massacre at My Lai. He then did all in his power to squash any such investigations.
Prior to his speech at the UN, detailing the numbers of (mythic) biologics, chemicals and rolling factories at Sadaam Hussein’s disposal, he expressed to his adjutant the opinion that it was all lies. Yet he went ahead and gave the speech anyway.
As an offically described “water walker” Powell has managed to keep an air of decency, a aura of one who seeks justice and fairness but, in reality, has always been a self serving climber. I would look to no such person for assistance, especially with the truth of things.
Whoa! Please disregard previous. No problem lurkin’ but should have posted a test before submitting. Same problems as others. Tubes are slow and very cranky.
At least I have something ‘bright’ in an otherwise politically dark and grim Sunday morning to take my mind off ‘things’. We’ve got severe thunderstorms moving in from the Texas panhandle. ;0)
Christy Hardin Smith @ 71
christy, this is not a complaint but an observation;
the experts at wordpress I don’t think are experts, they still haven’t resolved the unclosed tag problem and they are the only ones that have that issue…I had some people send to them some solutions that would definately work and they did nothing with those solutions
I’ll don’t know if someone from outside their platofrm can come up with a resolution for the crashing but I will surely try
I’m listening to Marcy on CSPAN and she was talking about a reporter commenting to her on how hard she was working vs what they thot (just thot you sat around & pontificated).
Wordsmith @ 85
I hope marcy did the indignant thing and challenged the patriotism of those suggestion libby walk for what he did to our natinal assets
Marcy Wheeler – WYSIWYG. and what you get is quite simply amazing. What a refreshing change from the usual Sunday morning talk show, eh?
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul does good works. Thanks for mentioning them!
Oklahoma kiddo @ 89
kiddo, you are L8
do you have a note?
Riesz Fischer @ 80
Blackballing the media only works if you have something they NEED to make money, either front-end as a business, or back-end in the corporate holding structure (think GE and its ownership of NBC).
For the last 12 years the media has blacked out the Dems; they don’t miss us, don’t need us. If there’s a hole in their “news”, they will insert the next “missing white girl” variant as we saw this past week with Paris, and earlier in the week with the poor girl abducted from the mall. Blackballing them will not work unless we are the only game in town.
What is our aim here? To get out our message, either about real news or about policy? Then we build our own media outlets. If our aim is to shut down the existing corporate media because it has failed us, we must provide a better alternative and deliberately siphon off customers and undermine the methods by which they make money.
[Gah. Fair and balanced, unfortunately; CSPAN2 follows up Marcy with the Heritage Foundation on Bush Foreign Policy.]
Rayne @ 64
and if this hasnt been mentioned, you could donate to a farm family – would not need to be road ready then.
I liked Marcy’s point about grading MSM reporters. I hadn’t noticed anything like that, somehow, but it’s a great idea. Bad is important, but good grades might be even more important–flies & honey & all that.
Just turned on tv. I missed MTP. They’re showing the French Open instead. Watching Federer/Nadal is much better than Timmy.
TiredFed @ 88
Well, dang – that’s over. Since it’s raining at a crisp rate it’s reading or cleaning the house….cleaning or reading?
eCAHNomics @ 93
here’s a point progressives need to start making too;
if the president lies us into a war it’s NOT ballanced to present people that say he didn’t lie
a fact is a fact, re presenting the lie does not ballance against the fact
now, there are opinions and they need to be ballanced but in all reality, the facts are liberally biased in the first place
CBS’ “Face the Nation” — White House press secretary Tony Snow; Sen. Joe Lieberman, Connecticut independent.
I hate to nitpick, but Joe ran under the “Connecticut for Lieberman” party. He isn’t an Independent – they hate him.
perris @ 90
Busted again. ;0)
How I fixed my browser issues: Dont know what screwed it up but I got fed up and went and installed Mozilla. It did another flash player update and since then my IE problems are gone.
Go figure.
WRT the refresh problem
Sometimes it hangs and sometimes it doesnt, for me. I hit the browser refresh button, myself, if I really want to see fresh comments. Otherwise I go visit some other site for a few.
On the other hand, I got so tired of IE7 that I unloaded it and installed IE6. Now the buttons are where I can find them, and I was able to fix the ‘certificate error’ messages – I simply told IE6 they were okay (if IE7 allows that, it’s hidden).
Wordsmith @ 95
basketball. off to another AAU tournament in about a half hour. good luck with the cleaning ;)
As an FYI for folks, CSpan 1 is re-playing the Schlozman/Graves hearings before the Senate Judiciary at 10:34AM EDT this morning. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is a blast but BE WARNED! Schlozman’s voice is painful to hear! He truly does sound like a chipmunk/helium voice and was given the name AL-VIN! for a very good reason…
Christy, I will hit f5 or wait the requisite minutes for refresh. whatever you recommend. I will stand on my head if you ask. Just keep doing what you’re doing, hon. we can’t make it without you and Jane (et al).
Forrest Gump does JFK.
http://www.news24.com/News24/E…..27,00.html
Hey Tom! The holes in JFK’s shirt and jacket are 2-3 inches below the wound location required by the Single Bullet Theory.
Tucked-in custom-made dress shirts don’t have more than a fraction of an inch of slack.
The motorcade photos show the jacket dropping, not riding up.
The truth of the JFK assassination is so prosaic people can’t process its’ simplicity.
Yeah. What TiredFed said.
Wow that was cool seeing Marcy. I had missed it the first time. I concur with her assessment that the reporters, well most of them, were eager to go after the real stories but were thwarted by their editors. They thought the whole missing white girl stuff was hideous. And they -all- despised Judy Miller.
Good morning y’all, slept in today.
Wordsmith — why an either/or proposition?
Read now, while it’s still cozy and quiet on a Sunday morning…clean later, after you’ve satiated the initial urge to read.
Interesting, there’s definitely been on-going tinkering behind the scenes with WordPress. On Friday the “spinning” (long time to refresh) happened only when a new thread had been launched while refreshing the old thread. Now it’s changed, “spins” when submitting a comment but not when refreshing (took 5-plus minutes to submit). Also note that the text submitted, while it does get inserted in the thread, remains in the editor box and needs to be select-all-deleted before entering another comment for submission.
Rayne @ 108
my commented text does not stay in the comment box if I hit f5. does it stay if you wait for WP to submit?
Rayne @ 108
Wonderful suggestion, Rayne!
Someone at DKos said that Powell said “Gitmo must be closed…today”
solai @ 111
powell is a coward and a failure…what he should have said was
“gitmo must be closed yesterday, it was moronic to open use it in the first place, we are supposed to be winning the hearts and minds of these people and instead we bread contempt.
whoever thought gitmo was good strategy is a moron”
that would have been sublime since the decision is worse then moronic and depraved it was deliberately intended to promote hatred against this country and our cause fighting terrorism
TiredFed (105) — don’t know, let’s check and see, would tell us whether it’s the Submit Comment button or not…
Hitting F5…
Here on the best coast, Pumkin’ Head was pre-empted for some people knocking around a fuzzy ball in France. He may have been on at 5:00am here, and tho I was up, it never crossed my mine to turn on the TeeVee. I would have liked to have seen what the Colon that used to be worthy of my respect had to say for hisself.
P.S. to Jane
If you’ll be my friend, I’m starting a FaceBook page………………….
TiredFed (105) — oh foo, that was reflexive, I hit the Submit Comment button.
One more time: F5
Ooop, that didn’t work at all, F5 didn’t submit.
I’m using Firefox, btw. Could be my HP laptop, don’t know.
on IE7.0 here. cant get clock to stop spinning. waited quite a while before refreshing (more than 5, less than 10 minutes).
Here on the best coast, Punkin’ Head was pre-empted for some folks knocking about a fuzzy ball in France. Too bad, I was curious as to what the Colon who used to be worthy of my respect would have to say for himself.
P.S. to Jane
If you will be my friend, I’ll be opening a FaceBook page/profile, posthaste………
Rayne @ 115
not your laptop, they are working on these issues
Marcy’s point about Bushco’s control/manipulation of media coverage by denying ‘access’ – that is made possible by the government’s greatly increased use of anonymous sourcing, sometimes for even the most routine matters, which can be fed to select reporters or organizations as opposed to a generally available press statement or conference, etc.
They become beholding to the object of their coverage in order to plie their trade, which is thereby compromised and used in service of the object’s purposes. This has spawned a number of new Bob Woodwards, but unfortunately they are patterned on the new Bob Woodward.

good morning.
I was having a perfectly good Sunday morning, I was actually sleeping in (you know, that lovely doze in and out) and Mr. Policeman came to the door and told me there was a little propane problem and out of the abundance of caution I was to evacuate, oh and if the dog really meant that much to me, I should evacuate him, too.
But his visit freaks out the cats, so til I round them up from tight crevices in the deep dark basement and get
dressedorganized, the event resolved itself — without an explosion.WOW, that was my first evacuation ever and I never left the house. Plus I missed Marcy!
and the all the Toobz here are screwy, too.

Just finding that out for myself – they seem to “prefer sidewalks!
Morning all. Been messing around with multiple browsers in both Mac OS X & Windows XP, and there are similar issues in both for me. Reload stalls, comment delays, etc.
In real time, this kind of beta testing is funky, but necessary. The pain should be over very soon, and the reports are useful to the guys in tech.
Schlozman -Graves starts now on C-Span.
Refresh comments works fine and fast.
Submit comments causes the spinning wheel to go ’round and ’round (but not up and down). I’ve been wating thrity secs or so to do a hard refresh of the page OR leave and return.
Running Mac OS 10.4.9, Safari browser on G4 iBook.

ThinkProgress has the video and commentary.
Leahy Sen Judic Hearing w/Schlozman starting now on C-SPAN1

After a new release, you just have to work through the bugs. That’s always the way it is. If I took the attitude I would only upgrade when the next release was perfect, I’d still be using WordStar (great piece of software, by the way, in its day).
Elliott @ 120
Morning Elliot,
Sorry your day got off to such a start. Glad to hear all is well with the propane.
dakine01 @ 123
Yeah. Diff machine but same setup. When I post a comment now, I click “Submit”, then go straight to a page reload (no waiting) and it’s fine. Oh well…

ALVINNN!
Colin Powell facilitates my grumpiness. Plus he keeps trying to rehab himself. He’s aggravating. Mr. Powell: Your moment passed long ago with your opportunity to exhibit statesmanship like behavior, and resign as Sec. of State when you fully realized that your Commander (Bush) was lying through his smirk. You are sir, irrelevant.
newtonusr @ 122
after reading Marcy on Schlozman, and all the comments here, for me it’s worth a second view.
Lieberman just said that 90% of the people over in Iraq killing americans and iraqis are Al Qaeda. How does he get away with this s–t?
Hugh @ 130
Man, it’s funny in a sick sort of way. The voice is the whipped cream, having this creep be so burdened. But when I watched the hearing live, I couldn’t get the thought out of my head: This guy was an interim US Attorney! Jeez!
My wife doesn’t follow politics very closely. I hit the mute button, told her that this guy’s nickname is “Alvin” and asked her to figure out why. Turned the sound on.
Her comment: How can anybody take this guy seriously?
Lieberman on FTN saying that if the Iranians don’t let up they should be attacked. He thinks it could be done “mostly” from the air but is willing to defer to the generals.
I think he’s trying to burnish his credentials as a “dangerous nutcase”.
Good morning from L.A. I usually avoid MTP, but since the word is out that Powell may actually say something of interest, will hold my nose & watch. Same problem as always w/Powell, though, namely how he couldn’t seem to voice any of this crap when it would have mattered back when…
What’s catching my eye this a.m.? Juan Cole’s blog in its entirety. As usual, Prof. Cole features a link to something I’ve a hard time stomaching, but feel compelled to read in this time of war- Reuters butcher’s bill from yesterday in Iraq:
Iraq Violence 6/9/07

Our prez preaches ‘Democracy’ overseas, while practicing fascism at home.
AP – President Bush, getting a hero’s welcome as the first American president to visit this Balkan nation, said Sunday that there cannot be endless dialogue about achieving independence for neighboring Kosovo.
Hugh @ 136
Agreed on your assessment of Joe. Too bad McCarthy took “Tailgunner Joe” as a nickname…
I know the military works out “game plans” for attacks on a multitude of countries, but why in the hell would we want to continue to talk about this on television? (Rhetorical question.)
fwiw when I last commented, it was the submit comment that hung the wheel, refresh comments works quickly. After about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes I hit reload page on Safari. This brought not only intervening comments, my comment, but several subsequent comments as well. Mine is a MacBook of recent vintage. Could the problem lay in not loading to the point of the load command but taking in as well subsequent commands? IANACW (computer whizz). All the best…… Last night’s post was absolutely sterling, a compendium of like would be precious.
Millineryman @ 128
thanks
I clearly need to work on my evacuation skillz. I took WAY too much time getting it together. And thinking about it, in this case, the cats were safer in the basement than they would have been if hurriedly piled into the car.
Fresh thread for everyone.
Andrew Sullivan has a post about Tagg Romney’s MySpace page. Seems he likes “Battlefield Earth,” just like his dad. Andrew is wondering if he thinks Scientology is a religion or not.
Unfortunately, you need to add someone as a friend to post a comment. I can’t bring myself to do it. I do love the girl that asks him “do people now your family is Mormon?” (sic)
Noonan @ 143
And “Chicks 4 Mitt”. Lordy…
frayed thread upstairs, pups!
TruthSeeker @ 32
He is true to his natural form. Expecting something different from Colin Powell is like going to the post office to buy a quart of milk and being disappointed because they didn’t have it.
Lieberman is out of his mind! Bomb Iran? Why didn’t Schaefer call him on this? Why is this serious nutcase on TV at all?
Liarman stating that we know there is a base in Iran training Iraqis how to perform boming attacks that have killed 200 soldiers ?!!
Where’s the hard evidence of that? This sounds like an embellished version of the same non-specific Iranian IED story that has been getting peddled for well over a year.
“The Left Wing Blogosphere” is finally being recognized as a solid political force.
Jay Carney made that point when referring to our ‘dis-pleasure’ with Hillary Clinton.
Also from Stephanopolis: In Memorium for 37 soldiers who died this week.
….this is going to be a very bad month.

How are the DEMs going to break up the media when Cheney’s son in law is head of the FCC?
I would cheerfully send about a dozen Canadian geese to anyone who will take them. They tend to be a bit loud at 4:30 a.m. (what with their bickering and all).
I do not watch much of Sunday TV b/c I work that morning. But I did see part of the Matthews show. It looked like a consensus there that Libby will be pardoned, but not unanimous. And that is the Chris position.
On the other hand, in the local bookstore, the good news in the magazine section shows a lot of “can’t stand Bush” coverage. I am feeling some relief that critical mass has been reached to be through with these nuts, but high angst that the crazies may be moved to create some new disaster. I swear I think the Pres. should be declared incompetent or incapacitated or non compes mentis; do we have an interregnum in this country?
Ron @ 13
To me it looks like a last gasp propaganda campaign to save some respectability for Bush.
But, as we all know, he’ll screw it up by saying something like “Hiya Pope.” or by being feted in Albania or something equally surreal.
BTW, Hillary was in California raising money from rich Jews. Think she’s given up on Iowa?
Something that really hhit me during This Week: Jay Carney has no difficulty spotting “scary Corporate fascism” in Russia, but entirely fails to recognize it in his own country…it’s not because they are stupid…
