I forgot that Duncan used to put up a “blog whore” post every once in a while until he did it recently. It’s something I need to do more. If you’ve got a blog, give us your best link so we can all take a look.
Meanwhile, if you haven’t joined the FDL Facebook group, don’t say nobody invited you.

zed?
TWO today!
Bob in HI
I joined!
Hey, have you figured out what it means to “poke” someone?
Bob in HI
G’night all.
Way to go, Bob! I don’t really have a blog, but I have a place where I drag columnists out from behind the NYT firewall every day. So if you want to hiss at Bobo and MoDo or applaud Krugman and Rich and don’t want to pay the piper, come visit
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
I usually put stuff up around 6:30 or so on weekdays (Eastern time) and sometimes later if I sleep in over the weekend. Y’all come, you hear?
Poodle kisses!
Jane!!
And for those who ponder, to poke someone it’s like flirting with them .. .something along those lines
Would you like me to poke you Bob? I joined Facebook today. I have a Myspace page but it seems all i get is spam friends requests. Very annoying.
In that case, I’m not going to Poke you!
I blame Jane.
Looks like smaller pictures need to be used with small blog entries. :)
It would be nice if we could tell an invite was from an FDLer.
congrats on your zed, bob!
I joined Facebook today too (hi Bob!).
“If you’ve got a blog, give us your best link so we can all take a look.”
Does my space on DailyKos or my other space on MyDD count as blogs?
Bob in HI
Marion in Savannah @ 5
Good to know, Marion, thanks.
Twisted Martini @ 8
Sure– go ahead and poke me. Thanks,
Bob in HI
My blogwhoring for the day:
David Broder Is A Rapist
Enjoy!
I joined the FDL Facebook group today (after I had to rescue the Facebook confirmation from my spam catcher). Does anyone know how to put up a picture? Do you have to have a Photobucket or something like that account, or can you just pull a .pdf from your computer?
Oh, and since I thought this was a “blog whoring” thread, who else has blogs?
Bob Schacht @ 15
Yes, it does.
Lucy on the Beach with Sand! What is she thinking?
Marion, I just finished creating an album on Facebook and it couldn’t be easier. There’s a photo upload tool there. No Photobucket or other service required.
This was EPU’d in the other thread (my wife needed me to work on tilling up our new garden), but this is my Facebook page.
This is one of my former students put up for my campaign. I didn’t know about it until the campaign was almost over, we’ll be putting it to use this time around. If you’d like to keep up with the WI Assembly races or want to donate (hint, hint) feel free to join up! :)
LoudounLib @ 22
Thanks! I’m a newbie at this blogging and “social interface” stuff, and appreciate any hints I can get!
Sure thing, Marion!
Here is my Facebook page
Too Saucy
http://toosaucy.blogspot.com/2…..ve-it.html
Consider yourself poked Bob!
I was ‘thinking’ of doing a blog. But it would be an extremely radical blog. I might end up talking to myself. Well… now that I think about it, it might be the fullfillment of some sort of weird solipsistic fantasy, which I am not even sure I could dream up. Philosophically “thinking” of course. Now that I think about it; am I even having this conversation? How can I be sure? One way or the other. How would I be sure that ‘those’ who were commenting, actually were commenting. Or if there were even any commenters to comment? Is this a dilemma or a quandary, or something altogether different and removed? I’m not even sure I’m having these thoughts. Oh dear. Am I in trouble? Oh well… I am going to hit the road. At least that’s what I’m imagining I’m going to do. I posed these thoughts to my sweet thing and she said, “what are you thinking?”, and I replied; ‘exactly’. ;0)
For all you Bruce fans, I bought the new Live in Dublin album, and if you liked Seeger Sessions, Dublin is even better. If you were looking for Darkness on the Edge of Town, don’t bother.
Does anyone else get Marion’s page when they click on the link for Bob Schacht or is it some magical property of my browser?
My Facebook page
My blog
What the heck is a poke?
All righty then. I’ve joined the facebook crowd. Under my real name (with trepidation). But look for the baldy and mustache holding the straw hat and wearing the mardi gras beads (picture was taken after attending the Gasparilla invasion in Tampa last year…) Be gentle please…
Here’s a sampling from my godawful blog.
Let me the first to invite anyone interested to the historic site, THE DOOM BROTHERS. About a decade ago, long before there were blogs, I did this site with another person. He has been seduced by the dark side but I decided to try and bring it back for a bit. I will see how long I can keep it up. When it was on the web before it won many awards and was generally regarded pretty well. Now? No one actually goes there so it is not a big deal. But, if you are interested, this is what we do, WASHINGTON — Bitter divisions over the Iraq war, particularly on Capitol Hill, led the Bush administration to change course and replace Gen. Peter Pace as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a grim Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday. Gates told the Doom Brothers exclusively, “Look, we just needed a change of Pace. We felt that General Pace had lost his rhythm and had simply petered out. Besides, when we are fighting a war against an insurgency in an urban environment, why would we want a Marine in charge? We think it is much more in tune with our theme in Iraq to have the Navy in charge of urban warfare.”
http://www.doombrother.blogspot.com
Get ready for the Iraq Vet stereotype
Or, if you prefer something rantier, Oh /now/ it’s a problem
I think I did this already on the last thread but WTF if yer pimpin’ yer pimpin’
Two posts from me at my communal action blog Bear Republic Action Group:
First I get all meta with….
‘What is Progressive?’
feel free to comment!
Then in a more rant driven vein I ask the timeless question:
Liebermann…Liar? Delusional? The Worst Senator Ever?
My co-bloggers have some good stuff up also. Please browse around and check us out.
Thanks Jane!
And thanks in advance to anyone who visits us, virtually, or by attending our Drinking Liberally, Oakland meetups in person.
I don’t have a blog, but I will pimp my website…
The Twisted Martini-Martini, cocktail and wine art on canvas
By the way, Jane, maybe you can help get the word out on this pretty cool project I’m working on. I know FDL commenters would be great at this. We all bitch about the media and the pundits from time to time. Well, here’s an invitation to sound off on an issue and one person who does will be chosen to host a “Henry Rollins Show” marathon on IFC (Independent Film Channel).
Rollins (former lead of Black Flag and The Rollins Band) is inviting anyone to tape a short video “rant” and the person who does the one he chooses will meet Henry and be put on the air in a MAJOR way on IFC .
Henry will choose someone who makes a 30-second video commentary on one of 11 hot topics, fly them to L.A., and have them host the upcoming “Rollins Show” Marathon on IFC.
Just go to ziddio.com/myrollinsrant and record and upload a 30-second video “rant” on one of the topics that Henry has selected (including abortion rights, has the Iraq war made us safer? Bush’s response to Hurricane Katrina, is America a dumb country? global warming, etc.)
All entries will be watched by, and the winner chosen solely by, Henry. He encourages anyone to enter, no matter their political persuasion – his only requirement: have “passion and attitude!”
Not a bad opportunity. And a chance to sound off on some of the issues we all care about.
Henry explains it all – and upload your “rant” – at ziddio.com/myrollinsrant
Twisted Martini @ 29
Bruce!!! Bruce goes in phases .. just like Neil Young does .. here .. electric .. there .. some acoustic .. some other time .. horns .. or whatever
jbk @ 26
I didn’t see FDL in your links….yet??!!
You’re right he does, but I love every one of his phases. Many people want him to be the same as he was in the late 70’s, but I think it shows his maturity and depth as a musician.
If only the camera loved me as much as it loves Jane. (sniffle). I’d love to tell you all that I look like Geena Davis (I’m taller), but I really look like Eleanor Roosevelt (but I’m…taller).
Jane is awfully gracious to invite us all. I just read this last night:
Invading our own privacy
My social anxiety/govtl paranoia warning light is already at orange level alert just by hitchhiking on other blogs as a commenter! Now facebook. Next thing you know I’ll be marching down 3rd Avenue here (we have a guy with a sign who “runs” for Congress every election…Lantos always wins.)
I’m going to run and hide under my bed now. :P
Don’t see me.
Not an especially brilliant post, but I would like to know, why does Judy Woodruff have a job?
Suzanne @ 31
I haven’t been poked as much as I have today.
Two of my former students are overseas this year – one in Belgium and the other in Brazil. They should be back in the States in the next week or two. We’ve had daily poking going on since they left. I wonder what they’ll do if I poke them when I see them in person.
My facebook page
Oh.. I could kick ass on Rollins show!
haha good point!! Ok, now it’s there!! I made that damn list about a year ago when I first put up Too Saucy and it was before I had discovered FDL. I always forget to update my list. There’s probably another 10 sites I have to get up there.

Actually, it was Avedon Carol who put up the latest Blogwhoring post @ Eschaton.

Do we smoke cigarettes now?
Thanks for the invitation to share about our own blogs. Is it egregiousBlog whoring if we have been invited? :)
And now to look up some favorites for linking.

I just posted an important story on the New Orleans pumps at First Draft. The Army Corps of Engineers own investigation released Friday found the pumps are still defective and there were contract improprities. That is the contract with Jeb Bush’s former company…MWI.
My post links to a great Nola blogger-Matt McBride at Fix the Pumps blog. Matt has filed numerous FOIA’s to get info and it was Matt who obtained the ACE memo showing the pumps were defective and gave it to the Associated Press who broke that story.
Now Matt has analysis of the new report and also a timeline on how the Corps managed the release of it. (presser came after all the national press in town for their obligatory start of hurricane season stories had left town and it was an invitation-only round table for only 6 reporters for the release the report. Only one of which was national media) There’s more of course
This is an important story. If the pumps fail, New Orleans floods.
I hope you check it out
I like Phoenix Woman’s post and recently posted something similar (but not nearly so good) over at Daily Kos. David Broder takes himself seriously, and even that is one person too many.
Joined, but having problem: Was forced to ID myself with my real name but want to change to S.O.S. from MA. How dis done? IS dis done — or am I asking the wrong question for this environment? :)

Eureka Springs @ 67
Not sure but I think it needs certain (normal) name formatting. Try SOS from MA or SOS fromMA
It rejected the former as having too many capital letters. I didn’t try the latter. I gather that once you’ve set a freebie account you can change everything about it but the account name. Normal WebApp behavior. Perhaps I’ll start off again before I add much to the account. Tnx for the fdbk!
SOS, facebook has a way to change your name… i was just looking at all the options.. let me see if i can find it again
Fantastic, I enjoyed the recent look at atrios’ readers.
I got no blog, but I got beavers. The disney variety…Alhambra Creek Beavers
S.O.S. from MA @ 57
I thought you could do that through editing your profile, but that’s not an option I see.
One of my former students was recently and she has a “new” last name on her profile… I don’t see where you would be able to change it though. Sorry :(

First Draft and MYDD writers are also here? I visit you both daily! LOL

Anyone else rather bewildered as to what to do once the facebook account is up?
Hi Dee Loralei. Thanks for reading us
Twisted Martini @ 65
Thx TM! I like JM’s The Authority Song too…I’ll have to check out Copperhead Road. And Johnny Cash Folsom Prison Blues Hah!
And Bob in HI, thanks for the Fitz heads up. I was watching Ice Spiders on Sci-Fi and that was truly horrible. And I love me some really bad disaster type movies. Baselisk: Serpent King is a keep however, so bad it’s effing hilarious. OK they are my secret shames but my teenage son and I bond over the things. We’re like MS3000, but even more snarky LOL. Did I just admit what a nerd I am?
I really wanted to pimp Matt’s blog. Not sure what that is…a blogwhore pimp in a blogwhore post…errr something
Thanks Suzanne, Facebook name change successful :-) I’m now on there with my FDL handle, albeit with a space in the middle: Loudoun Lib
what is Fitz saying?
Scout, I don’t comment a lot over there at First Draft, love the new updated look, btw. But you guys are durned admirable about your continued N’awlins coverage. And I love Holden and Athena also :-)
newtonusr – look upthread and find a facebook page – like mine – and start clicking on the pictures and follow the cues – add friends you wanna add. there are several facebook links in this thread. have fun and start clickin
Dee Loralei well thanks again. Holden and Athenae are great

By all means watch the reruns (which will, I’m sure, be legion) of Ice Spiders. You probably missed the bit where the guy with the competition bow and really, REALLY bad aim misses the spider and… Well, I don’t want to ruin any of the subtle plot points for you!

Find people in your area – especially with similar interests. Look up people that you went to school with.
We’ve been using Facebook to coordinate our anti-war protest marches. It’s a great way to find young people that want to find a voice for their political views.
Our first protest was on the latest anniversary of the invasion. We had 40 people there, the majority of them were <21 and had never done something like this before. Most of the rest had protested against Vietnam and were passing the torch to this generation. It was really something special.
Bob Schacht @ 98
Fitz is great. I suggest everyone watch it. I am.
I think I figured it out. Jane, in the body of your post, where you link to Bob in Hawaii’s LHP tribute, you have the link to Marion instead.

Marion in Savannah @ 101
Hahah marion, just on your say-so, I will watch it at midnight. Be sure to catch Baselisk if you haven’t already. When my son and I watched it today I said I’d have to buy the dvd just for the first 5 minutes alone because it had me all sorts of giggly, and the rest of the movie fed into my giggle-fit.
And by all means, watch Eureka, it’s a Sci-Fi original series. About a geeky-sciency town in Wa State, populated by crazy mad scientist geeky-nerdy types. Hilarious and tongue in cheek. And dammit, it’s just fun. 2nd season starts in July. I highly reccomend that. My weird fascination with bad disaster movies is my sick sick mind. Not to be taken as an endorsement of said movies, merely my addiction to them.
I guess I’ll take up the invite. I haven’t blogged as much as I’d like to lately, but I do occasionally take a stab at politics (and a lot of other stuff besides). Here’s one of the more recent (?) entries that’s fairly political:
Weeding Out The Prisons

Yea I loved that response of his :-)We do need it, where both sides respect the other persons opinions…. The right wing has certainly changed the dynamics of differences in opinion ever since Newty took over the Congress.
Coming in late, but my fave recent post is this one, where I dissect an Right-winger newspaper editorial supporting Scooter.
And I now have 2 new co-bloggers, The Sailor, and Wintermute.
Heck, this one is pretty good, where I sort-of disagree with Spencer Ackerman, and say that it doesn’t matter if the soldiers “support the mission”, we still have to pull them out. After all, Custer’s men did too.
Just in from my last dinner on the Cape with brother and sister-in-law. Haven’t read the whole thread yet. Tomorrow I finish this job and move all my stuff back into one house—sort of, that and the storage locker while our house is being shown to prospective buyers. That means it needs to be clutter free—not in my genetic material.
So my own web site can be found by clicking my name. I haven’t posted in the past couple of months. I was “auditioning” for a new job (which I got) and the folks there were googleing me like mad so I didn’t want to scare them too much.
Last Sunday I preached about the state of Fascism in America. Didn’t post the sermon on the web site I use for the church. Put it on my extra-curricular web site instead. . . .perhaps too subversive to be linked to the church, I don’t know. Anyway I can be found at ProgressivePulpit
As the current job is almost over, I hope to be posting more often soon.
Facebook? I’ll ask the youth group at the new church to teach me about that. My guess is that they will be pleased to be asked.

Qu’est-ce que c’est “poke”??? Sounds enjoyable, but I have a feeling it doesn’t mean what I think it means…
Suzanne @ 78
Tnx Suzanne; I just found it. There’s some automagic name-checker that rejected SOS from MA because of “too many CAPital letters.” Sos from Ma was also rejected because it wasn’t a “legitimate name.” Hermph.
So now I’m “Sos von Ma” :) — it seems that the names of German nobility are accepted just fine :)
As to what to do inside the facebook: Being a newcomer, I’m not sure of course. One thing I would hope for would be a place where FirePups can discuss topics over time, and refer to one another’s past posts about those topics, without being dependent on whichever FDL “base-post” is in effect at any particular time.
THis need, provided for in many social network apps other than blogs, is why we conventionally feel it necessary to say “Pardon the OT” in normal FDL strings.
What we’re imho searching for is a place where ANY topic is legitimate (as long as it’s germane to the group), and any topic can be referred to over time. I hope I find such capability expressed somewheres in FB — and at first blush, it loox like it’s there.
In addition to the Brave New World of FB and its capabilities, I’ll be looking for a participant map, chat, joint calendaring, timelining… no surprise given what I put together under my .SIG above… :)
More thougts later…
What is a wall in facebook?
This is not my blog, but it looks like a seriously Blue Blog in Ky. Blue Grass Report I found it a while back, and just went back to check.
Well, they did not disappoint: latest post at this link
omg!
I just had to quote the salient parts that are being discussed:
Intro: “Creation Museum’s ‘Adam’ Shared Sex Exploits Online (AP) How awesome is this?”
Quote:
Creation Museum’s ‘Adam’ Shared Sex Exploits Online
By Julie Carr Smyth, Associated Press
~~~~The man who portrays Adam for a museum based on the Bible’s version of history led quite a different life outside the Garden of Eden, flaunting his sexual exploits online and modeling for a line of clothing with an explicit mascot.
Registration records show that Eric Linden, who portrays Adam taking his first breath in a film at the newly opened Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky., has owned a graphic Web site called Bedroom Acrobat.
He has been pictured there, smiling alongside a drag queen, in a T-shirt brandishing the site’s sexually suggestive logo. ~~~~
Dee Loralei @ 112
OH! THAT Eureka! Of course we watched every episode and every rerun avidly, and can’t WAIT until the new season begins! The only other things I’m anticipating so avidly are the new Harry Potter book and the new season of The Closer.
Valley Girl @ 122
VG, I found that site a few months ago when the news reports were first out about how the Gov was blocking state employees from going there. The owner is in a 1st amendment law suit as the state did NOT block friendly blogs or right leaning, only BG Report and leftie types. Unfortuantely, the blogger has just moved to MT so is looking to sell if possible.
I’ve added a couple more links. Old age—the shrinking room isn’t too bad. Comment 71 above here iirc. Goodnight all.
Hi, Eureka!
I’d join Facebook, but I have dialup and cranky software.
(I think I need to lose IE7 and put IE6 in. It doesn’t like a lot of the security certificates, including my primary e-mail provider’s.)
I joined after all, and I love it.
I got a request to add someone who may be an FDLer, but I don’t know him by the name he gave.
Hi Pups — I lurk therefore I join. My new facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=553923831
I’m usually comfortable with all my posts but I like this one.
Shameless blogwhoring indeed.
I’m a mostly lurker – incredibly impressed and often intimidated by the depth and breadth of knowledge by posters and commenters here! I blog about health policy, patient advocacy and safety, healthcare quality, and professional nursing at Universal Health. I blog to keep my sanity whilst looking for work.
Dang, Marion in Savannah got there first so my TimesSelect blog seems like a me too. But, I don’t do Bobo or Friedman or MoDo when she is being a twit. I do throw in others that I like when I find them, not necessarily behind a fire wall, including Joe Galloway from McClatchy. And because I have no social life, I usually get Frank Rich and the weekend Herbert and MoDo up by 10 PM the night before.
A little whoring — my contributions so far are pretty short, so take two, they’re small:
Vaccines and autism
Science reporting
Whore it up! My site’s not primarily a blog, but my blogging is an important part of it. I like to rant. Many times my rants end up on politics and religion, here’s what I think is my best one (my readers seem to think so too):
The Illusion of the Nuclear Family
(although I have shorter… funnier ones too. Also Internet Explorer users may have trouble viewing)
