Good evening to all of you and forgive my technical failings — I had a magnificent YouTube ready that I simply cannot get to post uptop, so I’ll post it in the thread for your enjoyment.
It’s a swell montage of Novakula’s walkoff from the CNN set, but you’ll see it soon, I promise. It’s meant to go with his column from yesterday’s Washington Post, in which he clarifies the establishment DeeCee Beltway view of 2008 PrezCandi John Edwards:
The dynamic performance by John Edwards in Sunday’s Democratic presidential debate, assailing his competitors for the nomination, got high marks from political reporters, Republican politicians and left-wing activists. But not from the Democratic establishment. Once their great hope for the future, Edwards now is massively unpopular among party regulars, who neither like nor trust him.
The performances at the Goffstown, N.H., event by the two front-runners, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, were error-free if a little leaden. Edwards, the third man in the big presidential field, supplied the fireworks by taking on Clinton and Obama. On the surface, he seems a perfect candidate: eloquent, smart, handsome and shrewd. Is he reminiscent of the two slick Southerners who were the only Democrats elected president in the past 40 years? Yet the prospect of an Edwards-led ticket evokes deep apprehension inside the party that he would be another flawed nominee.
Oh.
My.
Gosh.
Deep apprehensions!? Another flawed nominee?! Who could our dear Robert Novak be speaking with about John Edwards?
Edwards has not worn well with party colleagues. Campaign consultant Bob Shrum was enthusiastic about Edwards after working on his 1998 Senate victory in North Carolina and unsuccessfully advised Gore to make him his 2000 running mate. But Shrum chose Kerry over Edwards as his 2004 presidential client. In his newly published memoir, “No Excuses: Concessions of a Serial Campaigner,” Shrum explains: “I was coming to believe he wasn’t ready; he was a Clinton who hadn’t read the books.”
But wait — there’s more!
During the 2004 primaries, Democratic activist James Carville was enchanted when Edwards shifted his centrist posture to a populist depiction of “Two Americas.” Carville told me — and then repeated it on CNN — that Edwards was the best stump speaker he ever had seen. When I asked him this week whether he still thought that was true, Carville replied: “Maybe he’s not as good now.”
I don’t know if you’ve chosen a Presidential candidate for 2008 (I have) but could you do worse than to choose the one opposed by Bob Shrum?
and James Carville?
and Robert Novak?
Discuss.

yes I am still lurking, for just a few…
Novak on YouTube
hey, I got the non-zed ;) and so to bed…
Teddy! Thank you for the lovely smackdown of Novakula.
Theodore San Francisco!!!
No spitballs tonight, I hope…
So, Loo, we got our list now.
I like your question mo better.
Really going now.
I’ll think up some more questions in my sleep.
Ta!
All the rubberbands got moved during the redecoration and I can’t find them, neuro.
a moment of silence, please, for the passing of dear old Zed.
Suzanne @ 4
Right on, Teddy!!!
Ta!
LL, you got the zed.
Novak has pretty well bled out.
punaise @ 8
Aftwards, please give a warm welcome to the non-zed, who takes his place.
punaise @ 8
punaise, you do know that you’ve lost your last paycheck, doncha?
Poor punaise – we’ve been betting with your next dozen paychecks. Hope that doesn’t cause any problems.
TSF, are you trying to give folks nightmares? Carville and Novak at this hour?
The latter is in his Concern Troll mode, and the former is simply trolling for attention.
Please hard-refresh y’all, the tech crew has performed their magical magic, and we have a video uptop!
That is heartening, isn’t it!
Could somebody identify the three people on the video, for an ignorant Aussie? Please.
punaise @ 8
He was always the first to arrive at every party, and always seemed to know when and where the next party was going to start before anyone else.
Everyone – reload the page – Teddy got the UTube in the post and it is too dayam funny.
Carville told me — and then repeated it on CNN — that Edwards was the best stump speaker he ever had seen. When I asked him this week whether he still thought that was true, Carville replied: “Maybe he’s not as good now.”
Are we talking about the same James Carville who is married to a former aide to VP Darth Cheney and who joined her in asking Judge Walton to give the traitorous and felonious Scooter Libby a slap on the wrist? And didn’t he also join her in hosting a fundraising party for Scooter’s defense fund?
Why would we care what he thinks about who should be the Democratic presidential nominee?
Sounds to me like his wife and her Republican cronies may be worried about the prospect of an Edwards nomination.
I can handle the squandered paychecks (well, actually, that’s not true), but let’s make it Paris, France rather than Ms. Hilton please…
punaise, I was looking for Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks singing “Got My Paycheck Today,” but no luck.
Peterr @ 18
in his own quiet way, he was an American zero.
pun, if i really did have your paychecks, i would take a trip to france just in your honor (and on your tab)
Carville is a Clinton shrill thru-and-thru, end of discusion! Now, who the F*** is Novak to opine on the Dems??? Period!!! Edwards is *gasp* a Trial Lawyer! Way too progressive for the Wingnuts anyways, of course, they’re going to smear him!!!
Teddy, great, super, marvelous, shiteous video!!
Vote Edwards: Disliked by all the right people.
Seriously. Edwards is the only candidate who regularly describes his policy ideas in concrete terms, and takes it to the Republicans and their water carriers to destroy their memes.
The others seem like that announcer in the Seinfeld “Comedian” movie: http://www.apple.com/trailers/…..edian.html
“In a world… where we fix this country and all get along!… Bush! A renegade cop! A robot renegade cop!”
Debbie(aussie) @ 17
er … tweedledum … tweedledummer … and … tweedledummest !!!
You’re Welcome !!! *g*
Carville co-signed his wife’s Libby letter. Who the heck cares what the fork he says or thinks anymore – that man (and I use the term loosely) is totally pw’d.
Suzanne @ 24
great song, horrible rendition – Joni Mitchell’s “Free Man in Paris” butchered by (shudder) Neil Diamond
TeddySanFran @ 15
A classic ‘Combat Rock’ Clash occurring on that Tube! Nice Montage Teddy!!!
punaise @ 23
But in the end, he proved to be a no-account.
punaise @ 8
WHAT!
this is too much for one week….
Petrocelli @ 28
James Carville is the bald one (he was Clinton’s campaign-dude), robert Novak who is generally a turd was the one who walked off. He wrote the article quoted above, and also revealed Valerie Plame’s identity. don’t know the third w/back to camera.
[BILL Clinton, that is, i.e. 42]
The poor zed – his staying power turned out to be null.
Teddy, now I know you through the pic last thread. That is really pretty amazing if you think about where we were a few years ago. I’ll buy a camera for YK2, but who knows if I’ll ever learn to do that trick!
CTuttle @ 25
What’s great is, Edwards is not getting drawn into their sniping … he’s quietly building up support for the caucuses, where he will surprise a lot of people.
Hillary has to realize that Carville’s continued diatribe on Edwards will have negative repurcussions on her campaign.
I think it’ll be Gore/Edwards in ‘08.
Ed Harris – a reporter with CNN is the ‘newscaster’ type guy.
Ed Harris – a reporter with CNN is the ‘newscaster’ type guy.
RIP, Zedediah
Good evening dear friends. I see from the crumbs that you enjoyed your cookie bars.
Debbie(aussie) @ 17
Hi Debbie!
The skinny little runt laughing is James Carville, former Clinton something or other, supposed Democrat, married to Mary Matalin.
The fat guy throwing the tantrum is Robert Novak, righty columnist and the guy famous for revealing the identiy of Valerie Plame Wilson.
The other guy is the host of the show. His name doesn’t matter, they’re all interchangeable.
Hope that helps
Persiflage (also Aussie)
So am I to infer that WordPress no longer graces the first commenter with a temporary zero?
Does that mean that (once the current discussion tapers off) we won’t have to talk about “Zed” anymore?

Actually, the host’s name does matter cuz’ it’s Timmeh! (Tim Russert, NBC) who was on the stand during Libby’s trial. He’s the one Libby said told him Valerie was CIA.
Thankyou. Have read a lot about them, just don’t know what they look like.

He’s waiting until November. After winning the Nobel, this Summer’s concert, many weeks on the NYT Bestsellers’ list … the tidal wave of Gore-groupies will peak in November and sweep him into 1600, no matter the ‘opposition’.
His book Assault on Reason is a clever way to reawaken the American mind to Gore’s brilliance.
neurophius @ 60
duck and cover!
Petrocelli @ 38
Oh STOP my pounding heart! Gore/Edwards!
Mentioned it in the comments earlier today that I’m just nearing the end of Gore’s new book -
aptly named “The Assault on Reason” and cannot recommend it highly enough. Have read his previous books and the new one is truly compelling, bold and – well – world class. And highly readable I’m happy to add.
I zed what I said and that’s all what i zed.

All right….off to watch the Daily Show and snuggle with the cats.

Talk to TexB – she shrank her name to allow for bigger zigs.
On August 4, 2005, Novak walked off the set during a live broadcast of the CNN show Inside Politics, on which he appeared along with Democratic strategist and analyst James Carville (whom Novak had debated with for years on Crossfire), and moderator Ed Henry.
During a discussion of Republican Representative Katherine Harris’s just-announced 2006 campaign for the U.S. Senate and her claim that newspapers tried to tarnish her image by manipulating photos of her, Novak claimed he had experienced the same thing leading to a skeptical response from Carville.
Novak responded by saying, “Don’t be too sure she’s going to lose… all the establishment’s against her and I’ve seen these Republican – anti-establishment candidates who do pretty well.” Novak mentioned Ronald Reagan and Tom Coburn before seeing Carville preparing to talk. Novak cut into his comments and said “Just let me finish what I’m going to say, James. Please, I know you hate to hear me, but you have…” Carville cut in and said that Novak “got to show these right-wingers that he’s got backbone, you know. It’s why The Wall Street Journal editorial page is watching you. Show ‘em you’re tough.”
Novak responded “Well, I think that’s bullshit. And I hate that.” Novak then removed his microphone and walked off the set. After the segment ended, host Ed Henry apologized to viewers for Novak’s leaving the set “a little early,”. “I had told him in advance that we were going to ask him about the CIA leak case. He was not here for me to be able to ask him about that. Hopefully, we’ll be able to ask him about that in the future.”

Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue !!!
My vote is for Edwards at this stage, and may remain so. HC is too smug and wrapped up in her assumed inevitability. She certainly hasn’t earned it as far as I’m concerned. BA is too smug and slick and far from being liberal enough for me on lots of issues. They both are zeroes on Bush and the war, for all BA’s early anti positions.
I want the peacenik, Kucinich to be seen an honored as credible, but I know that’s unlikely.
BC is being quoted as saying that Gore will enter when someone slips and he has the money to run on his own terms.
I just want all of the BushCo gone, gone, gone and never to return, preferably to spend the next 50 years in prison. .
Got kicked off line before I could respond to Heroes, but I want to put in my two cents;
My hat’s off to Christy for being such a shrewed observer and analyst, for being such a decent, gentle soul for such things as pulling up a chair and the exquisite bird pictures.
For you, TSF for a late night free of the raunchiness of TRex and youR periodic other NEAT posts.
For you Peterr for your social gospel perspective. wOULD STILL LOVE TO READ ONE OF YOUR SERMONS.
For you Scarecrow for your simple, but never simplistic, and always profound observations that makes US see and say, well of course….
For ALL the extraordinary ladies (and others) who staffed the Libby trials and all the recent congressional hearings of late.
For Pach for being the director of development, inviting advertisers to underwrite FDLS mission.
For Egregious who quite unexpectedly blessed me with a ((kairos)) “hug” some recent day or evening.
For the commenter(S) who faithfully research and list all the congressional hearings of late.
For all who are growing away from a dominance of bitchy snark into a more solid and serious medium for reflecting despair that turns into hope in the step by step, day by day evolving processes that I believe affirms that God is in the midst of us.
Am I a prude, maybe in some ways, but I love the camaraderie of the community that can share the struggle of life and politics with more and more depth and integrity.
And thanks for FDL’s values that can tolerage my signing off with Thanks be to God and blessings, as I sometimes do.

G’nite NPB, they were both great, as usual. I loved Stephen’s “Word” tonight, and his interview … comic genius.
Some thoughts on the birthday of Wisconsin native son Frank Lloyd Wright, who was born on this day 140 years ago. At night his S.C. Johnson Research Tower in Racine, WI glows in the dark like a dream, shimmering with a steady, pale light, as if it were illuminated by its own interior moon. A serenity that’s sorely needed today.

Well, I just don’t believe this museum would be visited much after this summer. But then, there’s a lot of stuff going on that I don’t believe.
Gee…Novak, Carville and Shrum don’t like Edwards..Now that’s a ringing endorsement!
Carville needs to spend some “quality time” with his wife–a mental picture that gives me almost as many shudders as visualizing another couple, Andrea Mitchell and Alan Greenspan, getting all snuggly.
As for Bob Shrum, the CIA really blew it. They shouldn’t have been trying to poison cigars to get Castro out of power. All they needed to do was to get Shrummy to be a consultant in one of Fidel’s elections.
aliasofwestgate @ 131
I grew up around the ‘Brit saying’ … “If you laugh too much, you’ll cry!”, which translates to, “Too much happiness will bring much sadness!”

What IS it with the rethugs and their ability to find and promote folks who have something to hide (usually online) regarding their sexual proclivities?
Is there a kink kink in their radar?
crap, wordsmith, was that a duplicate after a reboot of your system?
Yea, I thought Shrummy was the one political consultant who had lost every Presidential race he’d ever run…. why are these people still respected? Or at least quoted, without people pointing and laughing?

So when Novak excretes this stuff, who listens? Is there someone waiting to know what Novak’s take is on Edwards?
And upon reading this, would they think, “Well, Novak sez the mainstream Democratic politicos are turning on Edwards, so I better look at him more skeptically”?
What sort of Democrat looks to Novak for the Democratic pulse?

Oh no, this is terrible, right? What sort of University would employ such a person?
“Texas Christian University professor Charles Frederick Bond, 53, has taught at TCU for 28 years, and researches deception and lying.”
Oh, a Christian University, well, that explains it.
Didn’t mean to make it harder for you, Suzanne.

A month ago, I got into a somewhat testy discussion aobut the attack on the Liberty. I claimed that it was obviously an intentional attack, a plainly marked converted cargo ship flying the American flag and equipped with lots of antennae and no guns, save a coouple of mounted machine guns.
The rejoinder was that there was no motive for the attack. It was obviously an unfortunate accident and that is what all of the inquiries have found.
Unfortunately, I didn’t know enough to be really certain about motivation, and I’ve heard two versions. One was that prisoners were being killed and there had been radio leaks to that effect. The second was that an attack on Syria was immanent and against the wishes of Washington. Do you have any insight into those matters.
Suzanne @ 190
Thanks Suzanne, one of these days I’ll figure out how to embed links.

Alas poor Zed, I never knew ye.
Night all Sleep well.
I definitely could do worse than John Edwards and I can also do better: the best qualified of the Democratic candidates, Gov. Bill Richardson.
persiflage, it is pretty darn easy
type the work you want the link to be named (for example link)
copy the long http of the page you want to lin to
then highlight that name of the link in the typing box and click on the link button above where you type
the little box comes up with the http already in it – delete the pre-loaded http if you have copied and then paste the long link into the box and click on ok
the box will then ask you what you want to name the link and since you had already highlighted that name in the typing box, it will load that name into the space provided. click ok and
voila a link with a short name
go ahead and practice it here if you want to
zed liberation front
remember to delete the preloaded http that comes up before you paste the long link or else your link will not work

Yes, Suzanne, but I’m afraid patience will be required for the likes of me! Here’s what I think I understand:
1. Go to site and highlight the http address.
2. Come back to FDL
3. Write the shortcut word
4. ?
Links, petrocelli, not whips and cuffs (tsk tsk)
ok, loohoo… use your mouse to highligh the shortcut word
click on the link button that is in between quote and close tags.
paste the long link click ok on the box
the shortcut word should automatically come up in the link box because you highlighted it
click ok
I FORGOT TO TELL YA: before hitting submit comment, PREVIEW the comment. You can click on your link in the preview field to see if it works correctly.

DO NOT type the word first – click the link button and paste the long link click ok then type in the shortcut word into the window
want to try again

(From your EPU’d comment) Oh, now that’s interesting. I never knew that some rabbis don’t think meditation is kosher.
The funniest thing I was told was Satanic was the cartoon show, the Smurfs.
My older son was explaining why his best friend’s mom wouldn’t let the kids watch that show, and I could not stop laughing. Something about the Smurfs being Communists, and why was Smurfette living with all those men, hmmm?

LOL !!!
Reminds me of this:
A guy goes to a psychiatrist and is told he has to be evaluated. The shrink draws a straight line and asks the guy what he sees.
The guy replies, “A naked man!”
The shrink draws a squiggly line and asks, “Now, what do you see?
The guy replies, “A naked woman!”
The shrink then draws a straight horizontal line and a squiggly line right above it and ask, “Now what do you see?”
“A naked woman on top of a naked man!” came the answer.
The shrink looks intently at the guy and says, “Sir, you are perverted!”
“Me?” says the guy, “You’re the one drawing the dirty pictures!”
thanks, tw3k for the IE7 linky
Petro – I get your drift… The shadows come and go, the dark clouds can move in for long periods of time, but she has a great spirit. The most heart-rending thing about Yetto is her vast and deep reservoir of rage, that can erupt at any moment of frustration or confrontation. It can scare the living hell out of the uninitiated, and it has been my gift to have been able to remain constant and true to her as she works through the dark memories of her past.
Her hero is “The Sparrow” Edith Piaf.
Hi–
Its time for my late night driveby. . .
Good opening thread. Its clear that the DLC doesn’t like Edwards, but is that news? Their candidate is Hillary, and they know they can’t control Edwards, so of course they’ll bad-mouth him.
Also, of course, Edwards is beating the pants off Hillary in Iowa, so of course they want to tear him down. The better Edwards does, the longer the primary season stays open.
Disclosure: My favorite, so far, is Edwards, as long as Gore is not in the race.

The thing about rage is … I am a yoga/meditation teacher and I differ with my friends in psych about this … if she continues to express rage, there will be rage to express tomorrow or she will become submissive again – which attracts tormentors.
She needs to learn to channel/change the negative energy into positive energy … rage to love … express boundless love … that is the alchemy within. When boundless love is experienced and expressed, her rage will cease and she will be able to live the fullest life.

Suzanne and Wigwam,
The attack by naval and air units of the IDF on June 8, 1967 was the largest loss of life by Americans in the Mediterranean to a hostile national military force since world War II. It is the only attack by a hostile national force in the 20th century on an American vessel, let alone military vessel which has not been investigated by the US Congress.
The most credible proponent of an accidental encounter is Israeli-American polemicist and hiastorian Michael Oren, who has covered the encounter in his masterpiece _Six Days of War…_ and in numerous articles. Some of his arguments make no sense in a timeline situation, though. If as much attention were given by the Liberty survivors, who to a suriving man continue to contend the attack was both intentional and intended to kill them all, to creating a timeline as illuminative and authorative of some I’ve seen on the Libby case, for instance, we might learn more.
Wigwam cites lack of a motive on the part of Israel. I related here last weekend that I spent the Six-Day War on a beach on Hood Canal with a friend, listening to news of the war on the radio, while he was on leave from the Navy, me from the Army. What I didn’t relate then was that at the time, my Navy friend compared the apparent success of the Israelis to the current lack of success by our forces in Vietnam. Dave said early on – please put this accurate quote in context of the way people talked back then – “Those Hebes really know how to do war. Fuckin’ A!”
But after we heard of the assault on the USS Liberty, his Naval loyalty even trumped the anti-Semitism he’d picked up from his conservative Republican parents. Dave said something like “Jesus AND Mary wept! This is no accident.”
Since then I’ve tried to follow the development of the story. It has been in coverup mode since hour one…
I think I’ve got it! http://www.guardian.co.uk/baef…..32,00.html
Bob Schacht @ 253

Petrocelli, you have really gone to the crux of it – she (we) cycle through this over and over. My mother is very good with her – nothing but total love and acceptance and boundless understanding… but in the “thick of things” in life, whew! It can get so very disturbed…
I think your suggestion regarding meditation is truly valuable. Her psychiatrist seems very understanding, but she prescribes drugs that attenuate Yetto’s emotional range, and rather more dull her perceptions than sharpen them. I think I will begin to urge my little love to go the way you suggest… If you have any more specific recommendations, I would be very appreciative.

Hi ET,
Me too. But I’m back now.
Thanks for the reply. I had seen some stuff about that incident on the History Channel and/or the Military Channel. What I saw left little doubt from details of the incident that the attack was intentional. But the question “Why?” was never really addressed.
LaFourmiRouge @ 277
If she was in front of me, I could tell you if a part of her body was in pain and the cause … however … the 2nd photo, am I right that it was taken with a flash?
tw3k @ 276
I wish KirkMurphy was still around. Kirk if you read these comments, please e-mail me your insights.
wigwam,
You covered two of the usual suspects – the Egyptian prisoner massacre and the genuine Israeli concern about knowledge of the upcoming truce-breaking attack on Golan. Some allege that it was a plot to massacre the ship and then plant debris and whatever to blame the affair on the Egyptians. That makes even less sense, because the Egyptians couldn’t have pulled something like that off by June 8. And the USA wouldn’t have involved itself in abetting somebody in planting false information then any more than it would now. So, I guess, I’m still looking for an honest answer.
Nevertheless, those fine young men died in combat against hostile forces while defending our flag which meant at least as much then as it does now.
LaFourmiRouge, please see my question @ 281.
Yes, Petro – that shot was taken with a flash – it’s tell-tale – she was looking right at me. I’ll look for a shot that has more depth.
She’s quite a chameleon – my (vast) photo collection has her in so many different characters it is astonishing. I have come to believe it is a survival tactic she has learned from hard experience. When she lived on the streets of Marseilles, she would strap her breasts down and keep her hair short, so as to look boyish, and she still uses clothing and hairstyles to “disguise” herself. A jewel with many facets…
Now that I’m feeling ambitious, a little tune with a powerful message!!!

Thanks, all. Thank you for putting up with the glitches and such and thanks for being patient while we were working on em.
LaFourmiRouge @ 285
No, that’s quite alright. I know that homeopathy is very popular is Europe, what I suggest is finding a Homeopath with medical background, who will give her Homeopathic medicine and s-l-o-w-l-y take her off the psych drugs.
This is a delicate process, I know several Homeopaths in England and Canada who do this rather skillfully with no adverse side effects.
Next, a competent meditation instructor, again with knowledge of psych. terminology and which meditation(s) will help the most. The Homeopath should know some meditation instructors like this. What is essential is that you keep the Homeopath in the loop, as to Yetto’s progress.
You might be familiar with the saying, “Give a man a fish … feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish … feed him for life.”
How muchever love you and your mom wrap Yetto with, it will always be insufficient. It is only when she can wrap herself in her own love that she will be able to heal.
Any further questions? I’m not sure how much is too much for you.
Suzanne @ 293
Glitches and all, the Lake rocks!!! Nite, Suz!!!
ET – I have read alot over the years about the attack on the Liberty, and I am convinced that it was a deliberate, well-planned operation with the intent to blame it on Egypt.
The ship was clearly marked, and the attack lasted more tha 1/2 hour – more than enough time to confirm and re-confirm targets and make identifications. It is beyond me why the state department and theAdministration would stand for such a thing – it is a standing stain on the honor of the Israeli armed forces.
Suzanne @ 293
Bon nuit !!!
Petro, did you checkout the song? You still up ???
CTuttle @ 298
Yes. Yes.
What a talent !!!
LaFourmiRouge @ 296
But the Egyptian air force was destroyed on the ground very early in the war. Could they really have believed that the U.S. would buy that it was an Egyptian operation?
Petro – I have so many qustions for you… be sure I will pepper you with them as time goes on, now that I have discovered you as a resource. What you say rings true.
I guess my main question right now is how to handle the rage when it is out of control and in my face “in the moment”. I have no training – only instincts and this tremendous attachment that I fear will someday drag me down like a stone, into the depths with her. I only made a vow to myself never, ever to turn on her, never to become angry, but only to be her rock – her anchor no matter what. It has taken me to some dreadful places…
Boy, I’m really revealing alot here, but for some reason I trust you. It must be the water in the Lake…
Petrocelli @ 299
I was starting to get concerned there, mi amigo, it must be close to dawn in Toronto, Eh???
Petrocelli @ 267
This sounds like the political equivalent of “God works in mysterious ways.”
Have you noticed that public approval of Democrats, which was riding so high in March, has now slipped down, according to an ABC Poll. Writing about the Democratic leadership,
Of course, the failure to block war funding has taken a toll as well.
Is losing public support part of Pelosi’s shrewd plan?
Bob in HI
LaFourmiRouge @ 301
Cool and Soothing…!!! *g*
Wigwam – I have wracked my brain over it, and it is the only plausible explanation I can come up with. If the Israelis wanted to destroy the intelligence-gathering operation, they would clearly have been better off sinking the Liberty altogether. One thing is clear – it was no accident – it was not a case of mis-identification.

If Suz was here, I’d ask her to give my e-mail address to you. I don’t like discussing too much where many can see it. It seems that whatever you’re doing at present is working. The CDs and books by Louise Hay are indispensable.
1. You Can Heal Your Life.
2. Self Healing – Creating Your Own Health.
3. Power Witin You.
Drs. Wayne Dyer and Richard Carlson are a couple of PhDs, who have bridged the chasm between Eastern & Western Philosophy and have great insights on this subject.
Let her listen to these CDs and you should listen to them at a different time … “You Can Heal Your Life” will blow your mind, when you hear about the power that a woman has within her.
“Attachment” is tricky to define. For me, it means love without pity, without guilt, without fear. Pure Love, without any baggage.
This is often taken to mean promiscuity, which is superficial, lacking in depth. Pure love is as deep and wide as the Ocean and remains fresh as the morning dew. Perhaps if you’re here Friday night, you can ask Suz to give my e-mail to you … point her to this comment so she’ll know I approve.
Anything else? It’s almost 5 a.m. in Toronto … *g*

The vessel wasn’t unarmed. They were able to return little, if any, return fire. The initial phase of the attack, from testimony of the survivors, was quite targeted and accurate, directed at the antennas and radio transmission facilities and the few gun stations. One of the two gunners killed was sawed in half, by machine gun or cannon fire from an attacking Mirage.

HEILIGENDAMM, Germany (CNN) — U.S. President George W. Bush came down with a stomach ailment Friday at the Group of Eight summit in Germany and was resting in his room.
“I’m not sure if it’s a stomach virus yet or something like that,” Dan Bartlett, counselor to the president, told reporters. “He’s just not feeling well in his stomach.”
Well, I guess that seals it. Edwards it is!
The MSM believe they have the right to select the next Democratic candidate for President. They want a Clinton/Obama ticket. Read Klugman in today’s NYT to see how these scumbags are trying to manipulate the results of the elections.
Can someone help me with links?
I tried following Suzanne’s lesson upthread, and here’s my problem: After I hit the link button and the window comes up, the window will not let me do anything but type. I cannot paste the URL into the box. It flashes and blinks and refuses to let me paste the site that I copied.

This is the technique I use:
select url (usually in browser address window) by right-clicking and selecting copy.
hit the link button. delete all the text by using BACKSPACE not by selecting. the press the Control key and the “V” key simultaneously. the URL fully formatted will pop into the text box. Click OK.
Type in “linky” or whatever you want in the next dialog box. click OK and it will create a finely-crafted FDL link for you!
oh and if you have a permalink or such, right click and select “copy link location” rather than using the address bar method explained above; otherwise do the steps the same.
I’ll try to get some screen caps to a pix site tomorrow…

i’m resorting to drive by postings, unfortunately as i have tons of work to do and not enough time to do them. that’s hardly news, of course.
thanks for caring. isn’t it odd how that we really only know each other from posts here, yet already many of you are like family to me, and perahps vice versa. weird but wonderfull…
have a good friday and good weekend. i will try to get the pix up by end of today. the mods can create a pastable link to them and provide it on demand.
Toto, we are NOT in kansas anymore…
Republicans For Obama!
I’ll look forward to the pictures. I’m glad your subconcious was warning you. Hang in there with the rest of the work.

That 329 was a test using FDL URL. At least I got something. I’ll keep trying.
Good morning everyone. What do you all think about the news that Bush is missing meetings due to stomach ailment? Is it on the level? Is he mad that he’s not getting his way so he’s not going to play? Or did someone slip something bad into his food?
329 worked perfectly for me!
solai @ 331
polonium 210? god i hope not…
OTOH, darth is going in for his 1000 grimmace checkup on his heart…gee wouldn’t it be too bad if he had to resign due to heart trouble…just before scoot arrived at the crossroads…

This is a test to see it this sends you to Marcy’s The Next Hurrah.
334 is spot on. I think you have it!
More Republicant “values.” Ah yes…these are the people that celebrate a culture of life. Disgusting.
Thanks Alfred, Now off to work!

could be a case of that roving pancreatitis? ;)
It’s possible that Putin gave him acid indigestion yesterday.
Where’s twofl? Maybe just sleeping in?
Marion in Savannah @ 320 –
thank you, krugman is especially good today, i think.
Tech question
Anyone else having problems with Flash9 and IE7
My browser crashes shortly after touching pages with YouTube content.
Just started last week (I think there was a Flash security update…)
I can switch to FireFox, but it really does not work for me on any of the four machines I normally use. Other’s milage varies, I know, but that is not a long term option.
Maybe I’ll just go back to linuxfirefox where I don’t have so many issues.
(but none of my cool music toys run there)
ARGHH
Mornin’ all!
Mack @ 346
YES! I have XP & IE and been all but put out of business with the freakin’ browser crashes. I tried microsoft’s guided help which diasbled script debugging but that didn’t debug my problem.
But, I have had no problems using Firefox, if that’s any consolation (or help).
Loo Hoo. @ 61
Sorry, that ain’t Timmeh…first, he’s too trim, second, he’s under contract to lie on NBC, not CNN.
The talking heads are interchangeable, the networks, as much as they’re trying to be, not so much yet.
14 killed at Iraqi police chief’s house

CIA agents go on trial in Italy before Bush visit
The U.S. citizens, almost all believed to be CIA agents, have been charged with kidnapping a Muslim in Milan in 2003 who was on Washington’s list of terrorist suspects and flying him to Egypt where he says he was tortured under interrogation.
Good Morning, Firepups,
Sunny with haze moving in, and temperature forecast for the 90s in central Jersey today. The salad garden is coming along nicely, despite going in late this year, altho’ the squirrels are driving me crazy! It looked like one had decided to excavate a mine in the back bed!
I cannot bring myself to watch Novakula. According to the Times front page, Bush is skipping sessions at the G8 due to illness.
There’s a big pot of coffee, and a basket of bagels. Help yourselves.
Work for peace, every day.
Weird…I was surfing and decided to stop on MSNBC for a sec to check out that wiener Scarborough.
I’m glued to it now; Scab is interviewing Robert Dallek, author of recently published Nixon and Kissinger: Partners in Power. Not so much about Nixon as much about Kissinger and about Vietnam. Dallek points out how very similar Iraq is to Vietnam, “we’ll stand down when they stand up”, Iraqification versus Vietnamization…and Scab says, yeah, even people inside the administration are saying that we have to get out of Iraq just as people did inside Nixon’s administration in 1969. But Scab asks, where are we, though? Took the Nixon administration another 4 years to get out of Vietnam after they realized they needed to get out; are we closer to 1969, or to 1973?
Probably one of the more lucid, rational, unbiased things I’ve ever heard from Scarborough. I might have to buy this book, too.
Especially after Dallek shared the bit about Nixon being too drunk to come to the phone about the Russians, and Kissinger handled the negotiations instead. He also said Kissinger used the “mad man” as leverage (in effect he would say “he’s nuts/drunk, I can’t guarantee what he’ll do”) to coerce Russians and others to agree with him. Sounds like Cheney referring to Bush…
“Discuss”…
Avec plaisir, mon Theodor. :o)
On a week-to-week basis, you can tell whom the republicans fear the most, by whom they’re dissing the hardest. It’s not ALWAYS Edwards, but he’s looking pretty good in Iowa, at least, and most of the conehead GOP punjabit’s know that Hillary is their last, bestest, hope, for salvaging the white house out of the democratic tsunami that’s coming, so we won’t be hearing quiiiite as much about what a terrible candidate SHE would make, AND, at the same time they’re telling us how whale-shit low is our opinion of John Edwards, they won’t be talking about the fact that a substantial part of the democratic party (the party that still has a lot of respect for big dog) would rather have a root-canal with a half-inch Dewalt drill, than see Hillary nominated.
Thanks for helping with our choice, Bob. Your impeccable journalistic credentials are as bring and shiny as can be.
I mean, the democratic suggestion box is always open for someone whom the term “media republican whore” fits like it was a $500 dollar suit. :o)
That eminently qualifies you to help us pick our nominee. :o)
I’ve been having computer problems too. Couldn’t see the comments for last nite’s post. Click comments and crash. Tried several times. No problems yet today.
Teddy had a GREAT idea (oops, CAPS lock on). He posted a link to the YouTube he wanted to show. Now folks like me can see it at work, er, I mean, at lunch.
btw, used to think Shrum and Carville were just Vichy advisers. but I’m think they are moles. let’s hope no one besides Novak talks to them from now on.

Me, too, think the consultantocracy weren’t merely inept but deliberately toxic to Democratic candidates. After reading Crashing the Gates I thought Kos and Armstrong were dead-on about the consultants, but there was something more to it. Do Dems never ask for performance from consultants…? how do they end up hiring dorks who don’t perform, election cycle after cycle? There had to be something else going on there besides systemic stupidity.
solai @ 354
Hi solai, I’m having no problems with Mozilla and the new fdl, but I haven’t tried the IE browser with the new fdl, no need.
One benefit for me with Firefox is that I can correct my spastic finger output and, if necessary, my spastic brain output.
I’ve been on board with Edwards for a while now. While I worry about the fact that he seems, to some extent, re-made as a progressive for this election, I would rather see someone who sees hope in the progressive side of the party then someone who writes us off as people who will vote for anyone not a rethuglican. I think he still has some serious problems with the market economics religion that passes as science among almost all politicians these days, for example, in his approach to health care reform. None-the-less, he is still, far and away the best candidate who would have a real shot in the general election.
Secret CIA jails hosted by Poland, Romania: watchdog
I thought Edwards did well in the debate, too. In fact, in terms of voter outreach, creative campaigning, and addressing the issues, I’d say he’s doing the best of the “top three”. I guess he isn’t doing as well raising money, so should we conclude the people want him but the big donors don’t? That’s a pretty good recommendation in my book!
Getting ready for work. See everyone later.
Krugman is pretty much spot-on.
News organizations have gotten out of facts business while ramping up the opinion business,
Opinions without facts are the basis of almost all political discourse…
and no one but comedians seems to call bullshit on this.

Undoubtedly part of teh ‘last throes’.
This will be followed by Republicant mouthings that it’s the Iraqui’s fault for not stepping up to the plate.
twolf1 @ 360
Old and new there; I didn’t know about Romania, but RawStory reported on Poland having a black site back in March. Hmm. I wonder when others will come to light…
Rayne @ 357
I would be more likely to vote for someone who doesn’t need advisers to speak his or her own mind. It’s one thing to need expert advice, it’s another to be your own person. I think it is clear who needs “personal” advice in this race and who doesn’t. Peace

search the Irish TimesRayne @ 366
May I suggest that the Irish Times search
http://www.ireland.com/search/
(linky device doesn’t work, paste above into ….) on Shannon rendition flights and EU Parliamentary questions over rendition. The Irish Times archive would have everything you are looking for in a secure database for time line and who was involved. There is a facility that will gather published info over an extended period which is handy as well. All the best…….
My comment to Rayne is fu, the linky is in search (the Irish Times (link)) Rayne @ ….. I tried to edit but failed.
This is a story being reported for several years in the Irish Times iirc.

Maybe his diet in Germany of beer and pretzels is not agreeing with him.
I read this and it tipped me over the edge to send 54 bucks to John Edwards’ campaign. Got the pecan pie recipe, too!!

Yes, Suzanne – it was. I love Firefox, but I can use IE or even go thru MSN if necessary.
It’s doing it again today.

Oh ye of little faith…have faith in Nancy. “A woman’s place is in the House.” and Nancy is the master of that House. She’ll keep herding those cats ’til they’re all in a row, right alongside the ducks.
Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some political realities which force their hands. The negative feeling toward House Dems is just frustration with the war and that’s in the hands of Dubya, not Nancy or Harry Reid.
If they start moving on an impeachment of Gonzales things might look up a little. But, probably they’ll need to pass some affirmative uplifting legislation and it’s hard to imagine what that might be with Bush ready to veto anything uplifting. Ideas?
On the original post topic of Repub attitude towards Edwards: wooo hooo! Ahem, er, I mean, that’s probably good for Dems.
But, the entire line of pressure on the WH with regards to the Plame affair has to be making Cheney and perhaps the entire Iraq Group nervous. I suspect things are not going well in many houses aside from Nancy’s. It might calm down a bit if Cheney leaves and Congressional Dems don’t chase him. [ Who might be a good replacement? ] That doesn’t mean the Iraq Group members, such as Matalin, would get away without having to testify and pull back the veil to the inner-most parts of the Bush admin. It’s the least they could do to help rectify existing problems.
I heard Zed was laid off and now he feels really negative about life, less than zero. Now he’s been replaced by Uno and that stinks because Zed really stood for something, he was important and unique, but now Uno is number one.
Strange how the Romans forgot Zed, isn’t it?
Edwards for Prez.
