Thanks also to FDL, whose coverage I could not read during the trial, but which proved a treasure trove of delight once the verdict was announced.

I am happy to have done my part to have served and to have been a footnote to this affair. Justice was served, and in no small measure due to the steady and guiding hand of Judge Walton.

Goodness! Snippet:

I know Mr. Libby to be a patriot, a dedicated public servant, and a strong family man, and a tireless, honorable, selfless human being. Our country has been fortunate to have had his service. I have always felt he is the type of person others can hold up to their children and grandchildren as an example of a truly honorable public servant. Respectfully Donald H. Rumsfeld

Errrr, NOT! Keep away from kids. Read his novel.
Good on the Judge!

And by the way, the judge could have hammered Scooter a lot more than he did for the reason’s I stated in Relevant Conduct and Scooter’s Sentence

Nice feelgood article. But here’s the real deal. Fitzgerald didn’t get the guy who outed Valerie Wilson. Nobody got fired except Scooter. Justice was not done. How many wouldbe critics of the administration had their courage chilled? These bastards went after a guy’s WIFE. And in doing so they harmed our anti-prolification program. Two and a half years is going to be an unhappy time for Scooter, but no worse than the enlistment period of the guys who are fighting a war these mother-fuckers lied us into. My, oh my, how the bar has been lowered if we are to think that this is justice.

Please visit the Schapira blog, “What we know so far …”

“… and tell ‘em Big Mitch sent ya!”

I was in the court room today and to Helen who posted above, it is not that hard to attend - you need to get there about an hour earlier to be sure you get in.

I was waiting in line with an older gentleman who had two valises. He was complaining to me about going through security etc with the luggage. He sat next to me in the court room, then told me he was a close friend of scooter’s and put the valises at the end of the row. When libby et al came in he walked down with them and sat next to Harriet for the rest of the hearing. So, did he have the toothbrush - just in case?

Mary Matalin was queen of the letter brigade, I suspect. Really decked out today too - if you like teen wear. I LOVED Judge Walton’s comment after the first letter rendition, “I’ve read the letters.” Meanwhile after the wind-up about Libby’s “good life,” I expected to hear letters from his volunteer service, the Lion’s Club, Make-a-Wish, anything charitable. Every one of the six letters read by Wells talked about Libby doing a good job - at his job! No Mother Therese, he.

THANK YOU for Judge Walton - you restored my faith in humanity and
THANK YOU to Jane, Christy and March - you saved my sanity!

[P]eople have been rendered so cynical and so jaded, so thoroughly convinced that those to whom governance has been entrusted like Scooter Libby and his letter writing pals can do nothing right that re-engaging the public at a level necessary to redeem this country from the problems we are going to face will be extremely difficult.

I came of age under Reagan and I was so cynical, so jaded by the end of it. I found it hard even to use words like “honor” or “patriotic”, so fouled were they by their misuse.

I’m over that now, and so eventually will those coming of age under Bush. Honor and patriotism are positive goods even if scoundrels wish to take refuge in them. Part of our job will be to speed the recovery of that recognition.

There were no FDL’s when I was recovering from Reagan. Our country is lucky there will be for recovering from Bush.
