Hey hasn’t McCain been white longer than any of them?
Rudy sez money’s going to our enemies, for oil.
W’s friends the Kings won’t like that talk.
They’re all a bunch of stupid idiots who don’t really want to help the country. I can’t watch.
My Lord, look at these guys!
The Jack Bauer wannabe’s are back! Hide your children!
SnarKassandra @ 5
What the youngster says… ;})
Romney — it’s not the oil companies, it’s Russia, Chavez, and Ahmenidijad.
McCain wants him some nuclear power.
I don’t know how much more of this I can take.
TeddySanFran @ 9
Apparently Zeus is anti-abortion. :)
they are merely repeating, they never say anything
The real candidate isn’t on that stage.
Jane would it be possible to set up a blog/Vlog whatever one would call it ( I am bad with the terms) with a few of the hotshot lawyers here at FDL and 5-10…19-21 year old college students here at Ohio University, to discuss the Libby trial and sentence.
I have talked with a pack of them and they are very interested (along with my daughter Alana who posted a few questions today during the sentencing). The O.U. students are in the midst of finals but after Thursday they are interested in coming on as a group to ask questions.
I guess they could just jump on at any time, but they are interested in particular in the Libby issue and sentencing.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 15
Thompson just waits for them to all burn out and he steps in and scoops up all the marbles.
Which Republican candidate does this apply to?
He was born with no eyelids, but new ones were fashioned from the foreskin of his circumcision.
For this reason, his view is always cock-eyed.
ooooh, gays in the military question!!
Ron Paul sez the current policy is a decent policy

What a great idea. I hope you can work that out.

All in all, a good day for us, a really bad day for them.
And this ain’t gonna help.
Beer o’clock is rapidly approaching on the Left Coast, I am going to go have a Fitzgeralds Hammer of Justice.
A toast;

You most certainly didn’t say anything wrong!

Romney — DADT working just fine
McCain — best troops ever, but not enough of ‘em.
yup, he said that.
Agreed Bustedknuckles, a toast to the Ladies of the Lake. cheers
Democracy Now always worth the hour!
Military judge throws out Guantanamo charges. How long were these people held in prison?
http://www.democracynow.org/ar…../05/149244
Can any of the lawyers tell me why Jefferson faces 235 years in prison, and Libby gets 30 months for obstructing a federal prosecutors investigation of the outing of a CIA undercover agent? How do you explain this?
How would you use GWBush in your administration?
TT: not send him to the United Nations, but send him to lecture America’s young people about honesty and integrity in public service.
okay, this guy’s high
Yes! George Bush should teach young people about honesty!!
Oilfieldguy @ 30
Prost! I’ll drink to that!!! ;-)
Brownback looks like he smells a bad smell.

Excellent thought. Sounds like what the Internet is all about!
KO on the case.
What is Giuliani doing to appeal to Repubs? He’s got that lisp and bad suits and baldness, but what’s really appealing to them?
Duncan Hunter sez Karl Rove told him not to darken the door of the WH again, back in 2003!! He would not have GWB help him out.
Dover Bitch @ 33
After Libby’s pardon maybe he can help.
Dover Bitch @ 33
You left out the best part; Integrity!!!
MarkH @ 38
Ya’ll should turn that crap off and dig Joe Wilson.
Joe Wilson on KO!
Nice beard!
TeddySanFran @ 29
He, along with Biden, believes that we should add 100,000 more permanent active duty forces to the military. Clinton and Obama are also in favor of increasing the number of permanent positions in the military, but I think they haven’t been specific about how many more.
Fidel appeared in public today he looked good on the Democracy Now clip. Damn that guy has been around a long time.
Joe Wilson with a beard! He wears it well!
My comcast cable doesn’t offer MSNBC, so updates would be appreciated.
Joe feels sorry for what Libby had done to the Libby family and the country.

I’m not watching it. I’m just reading the comments here. Where’s Wilson on? He’s very cool.

Move under way to expel Jefferson from House
GOP lobbies Pelosi as indicted Democrat steps down from committee
Dems: This is war. Cut the funding. Go after Rove. Get Cheney.
Repugs..Don’t ask don’t tell seems to be working, no time for social experiment. Leave it up to commanders.
So, we’ve apparently got gays in military now, so how is allowing gays a social experiment? They’re already there. As for commanders,I guess they mean Chairman of Joint Chiefs Gen. Pace, who thinks teh gayness is immoral. Meanwhile, we’re losing translators left and right due to gayness. God help us.
Democrats. Pull out all stops.
KO
Not sure any of the folks (in the administration) have passed ethics 101.
What a bunch of marooons.
I will say this: Kudos to Huckabee for bringing up Katrina. Too bad the Democrats don’t want to talk about that.

I’m with you. A kid that I’ve known since he was born graduated from college and joined the Army to be a Green Beret. It’s a total bullshit recruiting tool, almost no one actually makes it from basic, ait, jump school to SF. So now he’s in Anbar province for 15 months. I’m sending jerky and Spin magazine and trying to figure out how to be a support to his folks, my friends. pissed indeed
dmac @ 70
You know, that is a damn good thing to bring up. Our country is setting us up to only be able to make a decent living if we participate in “their” businesses or industries, even if it means risking our lives. I’d rather be a pauper than to work in a situation that enables them to take over the world by using people as slaves.
Looking at Olbermann. Kissinger is a monster.

If there are any other “Project Runway” addicts here–remember when they all had to dress up in figure-skating costumes and take a skating lesson? A peak moment; the only way it could have been better would be if all the designers could have been replaced w/2008 GOP presidential honkeys, I mean uh candidates.
OfT, FWIW: Lawrence O’Donnell on Olbermann is just blowing up everyone who wrote Judge Walton asking for leniency for Irving.

Blub @ 95

Golly, this debate reminds me of a joke:
Herr Goldstein is sitting with his secretary at a cafe in 1937 Berlin when his secretary notices he’s reading a Nazi propaganda newspaper. Aghast, she asks her boss if he’s a self-hating Jew. He responds that he used to read the Jewish papers which talked of pogroms and a future war, but now, through the Nazi papers, he was discovering that Jews controlled the media and the banking and we’re trying to take over the world and this made him feel much better about himself.
Ghouliani just called the Dems healthcare proposals…”SOCIALIZED MEDICINE” …he is a discusting troll
Oklahoma kiddo @ 84
Kissinger has always been a monster, albeit a fairly incoherent and rambling one with a bad accent.
Rudy arguing for Libby pardon during the debate.
raven @ 99
I second that emotion!
Elliott @ 104

Oklahoma kiddo @ 84
I watched a documentary about the holocaust last night. Kissinger was interviewed and was very hedgy and resentful of any questioning about his experiences related to it. He left Germany at 15 in 1938. He refuses to talk about it basically. His anger (rightfully so) at the unspeakable activities of the Nazis seems so internalized that he has almost enabled this country to support policies that allow violent acts towards others via working through our government over the years. It is very strange and very frightening. It is almost like Stockholm syndrome. I am afraid he remains the Godfather of American policy. In his letter re: Libby, he refers to all the meetings he had with the VP. Creeps me out.
Guiliani should be President. We need a President who’s flexible enough to take on all the wonderful rethug ideals he’s told to believe in. That’s what we need in a leader.

Huckabee talking about Islamic jihadists strapping bombs to their children and sending them into crowded markets.
What we’ve got is a bunch of Nixon retreads running the country.
Huckabee on morality – we value every life… (oooh, he’s talking about fetuses, not towel heads;) It’s wonderful how he sees no discrepancy between valuing life and hunting ter’rists down.
Hugh @ 102
Anybody else remember when there were actually people who wanted to amend the Constitution so that Hank the K could run for Preznit? And now they want to do it for Ahnald…Dumbfounding to say the least…
I hate to say it, but it sounds to me like the Republicans have more constructive things to say about health care than the Democrats did the other night.
Giuliani says do something with the tax code, Thompson says manage disease better, Romney says make everyone get private insurance. Compare that to Edwards’ plan, which I think is vague, Obama’s plan which is partial at best, and Clinton who hasn’t even announced what she would do.
teeboy @ 119
Oh but gawwwwd made all of us.
Giuliani says moral authority comes from god.
Religion is not the answer to a question. It is a question.
Ron Paul sez the most pressing moral issue in America today is the doctrine of pre-emptive war.

If Libby walks next week during the appeal process, what was this long, involved and expensive process about? What is the clear message to our young people. Positon, money do matter when it comes to justice (now I know this) but to have this confirmed once again is just too much at this time.
Judge Walton please enforce the law put Libby in jail next week. Send a strong and clear message to our nation to our youth, that “truth is the engine of our judicial system”
Rebublicans got morals up their wazoo. Ooooh, Wolfie – did you just suggest that Guiliana is completly lacking in morals? I wonder if the ghoul will let that go (probably, it’s the pragmatic thing to do)
At the risk of being brash, I’m going to make an early call as to the biggest winner of the night.
Huckabee has probably gained the most out of tonight. He’s personable, he’s obviously the most gifted speaker among the major candidates, and he’s done a good job of defining himself. In my opinion, he’s by far the most dangerous opponent we could face in the general election, but I just don’t know if he’s going to gain enough traction by the end of the current quarter to make himself viable for the early primary contests.
That being said, I just can’t make up my mind as to who’s the biggest loser. This debate has been laughable for most of the night, and it’s hard to believe that any of these men could possibly run this country.
mitt romney is so good looking, i want to become a legal immigrant so he can love me. don’t tell the wife.
Clayton J. @ 130
A Repub audience member basically pointed out to Romney that he has said he wants the official language to be English, and the questioner then asked him why his ads are in Spanish. Boy, did he squirm in his chair..

Q for all:”what was Bush’s biggest mistake?”
ccmask @ 139
Hey, he did it in Massachusetts. Maybe it wouldn’t work on a national scale, I don’t know, but I think it’s a serious proposal. I just wish I heard something specific and tangible from the Democrats that I could compare it with.

Not eating more pretzels.
Just went to the debate, has Wolf asked the candidates to raise their hands on questions as he did with the Democratic candidates. He must have done this at least 4 times.
Ghouliani wants to establish accountability in Washington – LOL
Romney wants to reinflate Reagan
Brownback wants to cure cancer
Thompson – healthcare, Iraq, Dems bad.
Tancredo – Bush is a liberal.
Paul – Bush changed his tune and didn’t do what he said he would.
Gilmore – Bush deviated from principal.
Hunter T –
Huckabee – Lack of communication to help us know what problems are and how to solve them.
All these are answers to what was Bush’s biggest mistake.
kathleen @ 149
I think it makes them look like a bunch of third graders asking to go to the restroom.
oddball @ 147
Yes, they were all falling over themselves to say Libby should be pardoned and is the victim of an overzealous prosecutor.
Bronze to BillO for blasting NYTimes for JFK story not on front page. Though it was
Cheney silver for Iraq/al qaeda link to wyoming HS students
Beck WPITW for wondering why Kucinich’s wife married him…
Is it just me, or does nothing that Jim Gilmore says make any sense? I swear, the man takes sixty seconds and covers energy independence, his grandpa, border security, geese, cold medicine, and designer shoes. He rambles worse than any major candidate in either party.

Hillary had her ass kicked in 93/94 when they realized that she was serious about changing the health care system. You can bet this is the first thing Hillary would do!
oddball @ 146
They were asked about pardon; several said it’s premature; have to read the “transcript,” check the guidelines. But Romney restrated the BS about improper prosecution, no underlying crime, someone else leaked, etc. Duncan Hunter wants to pardon the two border agents convicted of murder; Rudy say sentence was grossly out of line for al the reasons Romney gave. And Tancredo just said “yes” (he would pardon).
LS @ 137
she really is right
but I’m still not surprised
I think the CNN.com headline for the debate just about summed it up:
“Candidates examine GOP shortcomings”
Shortcomings. Yep.
Wish List – Tancredo saying ‘we should line up anyone illegally crossing the border and shoot him.” Actually, his open xenophobia actually makes him one of the more honest people out there.
Why stop at a double Gitmo. Why, this is America! If we apply ourselves, we can have the biggest and best network of prison camps that history has ever seen! And we can get people to turn their neighbors over to be processed.

But I guess I kinda expected that.
New bumper sticker:
Vote Republican. We’re OK. OK with cronyism, perjury, obstruction, basically we’re OK with screwing everything up!
DrenchedOtter @ 145
Can you name one thing that Bush has done for the people of this country since he has been in office? Just one thing! Shouldn’t be too hard.
His buddies up there will be just like him.
They are embracing Joe Biden’s idea of partioning Iraq into three (sunni, shia, kurd) parts like it was their idea without crediting Biden. Otherwise its stay the course praying someday the Iraqis will stand up and enforce the rule of law so the american soldiers can stand down. None of the above will work. They have no plan to end the war either. Ha, ha, the immagration issue is killing them.
Now we see that the utter contempt for the rule of law that exists under the Bush administration would continue under any Republican successor.

Tancredo. He said he’d say the same thing to Bush.
Absolutely. The other day, Wolf bragged to McCaffrey that he had been to Cheney’s home. How blatant is that.

Ed Meese was right, many years ago, when he said that there’s a criminal lobby in this country. He meant the ACLU, but it turned out to be the Republican Party.

I agree that Bush hasn’t done anything for health care, but he isn’t running in 2008. It seems to me these guys are being more specific and sincere about what they would do about health care than the Democrats.
I was in the kitchen a few minutes ago during WPITW, but I could have sworn I heard Keith say “Republican Rep. Dennis Kucinich” — was I hearing things?

Mark B. in Austin TX @ 167
I think they believe that’s a good selling point and it may be for a wingnut primary, but I’m pretty sure they’ll discover that that 65 percent of Americans against the war would also be against going around the rules in the same way that led us to Iraq. I wonder how quickly some of these rethugs will be backtracking from their positions?
allan_in_upstate at 181 — so true.
Please keep in mind that we have a lot of good Democratic candidates for president. And that the main thing to do is get rid of the Republicans in 2008. ;0)
rudy wants health insurance like car and home. My god don’t elect another fool! You can’t make a claim on either they dont pay when you do and they cancel you at will. They are all crazy

Hello Gulianni and McCain terroism and enemies have grown during your Republican watch.
How can we forget that 9/11 happenned under their watch?
How far in debt is this nation under the Republican watch.
John King says the GOPers were “much more polite” than the Dems the other nite.
I hope someone asks Tancredo more about that little Rove/Bush “don’t darken my doorway” story.
If anyone asks, I’ll be amazed.

I lived in NY during the Ghouliani fascist regime….I know we are not supposed to use the word fascist…BUT….let me tell you…Ghouliani had rules in mid-town about HOW you could cross certain STREETS….for instance if you were walking cross-town towards the east side on 51st street.,..you had to cross on opposite sides of the street as you passed each avenue..it made NO sense…but Ghouliani said it would help traffic control…that is according to BernaRD(felon) kERIK…no one got it and they gAVE OUT 200 DOLLAR TICKETS if YOU DIDN’T FOLLOW THEIR RULE…NEVER MIND ALL THE RACIST KILLINGS DONE WIHTH THE gHOULIANI BLESSINGS TOWARDFS PEOPLKE OF COLOR…

I did hear that, but I’m pretty sure Keith goofed and referred to Kucinich as a Republic — that would be a rare slip for KO!
Jane you rock. Thanks for helping get Scooter!
and i am still alone up there even after i read the post!
kathleen @ 195
That needs to be repeated over and over.
9/11 happened on their watch.
Terrorism has multiplied exponentially due to their policies.
Republicans solve everything with force.
Under Republican rule, terrorism was mishandled and created increased terrorism and danger to the world.

WTF!
FYI, new thread
Man, am I glad this thing is winding down. I’m not quite sure why I forced myself through the entire thing, but here’s my take anyway.
Like I wrote earlier, Huckabee is probably the biggest winner of the evening. He’s poised, he’s likable, and he’s done the best job of making himself stand apart from the rest of the candidates. He’s also the winner of the ribbon for looking the most “presidential.”
I’m inclined to say that Jim Gilmore is the biggest loser of the night, but it’s hard to say that when he had absolutely nothing to lose coming into this. He rambled incoherently all night long, and at some points, I actually kind of found myself wondering whether or not the guy might be a little nuts. It’s good to know that the people of Virginia have elected two excellent governors since his term in office.
Gilmore aside, McCain took the most abuse from his fellows on stage. There were a lot of not so nice things said about the Kennedy/McCain immigration bill, and his sound bite-laden answers on national security and health care were boring, cliched, and obviously not winning any applause from the audience.
Huckabee is possibly the only capable man among the bunch, but it’s a snowball’s chance in hell that he’ll win the nomination when all is said and done.

:)
Y’know, DO, you might want to take a look at the Democrats’ websites to check out their healthcare plans. I’ll agree with you that this debate format doesn’t reveal much about the plans, but Edwards (at least) has a pretty comprehensive plan and has been courageous about how he’ll pay for it.
Will Americans be swayed by the Repub bullshit?
They used fear…fear….fear…will this work? I don’t think so. Fear is all they have!
Will Pubs be able to fool, spin, lie what has taken place the last six years. 9/11, Lies about WMD’s, invasion of a country that did not attack us, millions dead, 50,ooo american soldiers injured, illegal wire taping programs, hundreds of signing statements, more classified documents than any other administration, record breaking oil profits, a minimum wage not touched in 8 years, Katrina, tax cuts for the rich, the outing of an undercover agent, etc etc.
Cam americans really forget what has taken place the last six years.. can Pubs spin all of the facts into a quagmire like they have in Iraq.
I expect I’m in the minority here, but it seems to me Romney and Giuliani did better tonight than any of the Democrats did in their debate. They appeared calm, in control, and showed that they had thought through their positions, whether you agreed with them or not. I think McCain looked old and that his time had passed, I don’t think he’s a viable candidate.
In contrast, I think Clinton looked scripted, Edwards looked fake, and Obama looked inexperienced.
I hope Gore gets in the race soon. Otherwise I think we’re in for a landslide Republican victory in 2008.
all of this “thank you for your dead family members service”, hogwash. Service for what? Service for lies. Cindy Sheehan has faced the truth, her son died for nothing for lies for the Bush administrations lies.
TeddySanFran @ 212
I did read Edwards’ plan, and I give him credit for being the first and best of the Democrats to come out with a strategy. Still, in my humble opinion, I think he’s being a bit vague about how it’s all going to work.
Clayton J. @ 131
The Goper field is so weak, we could almost run Al Sharpton against the entire bunch and still get a landslide.

I have no doubt about why she married him. $$
Subway Serenade @ 217
But I bet that all y’all said BUSH couldn’t either, right? Americans are stupid sometimes.
DrenchedOtter @ 213
Romney and Giuliani are polished politicians, and that was obvious throughout the debate. I’m not going to go so far as to agree that they performed better than any democrat did Sunday evening, but they were on par with most of the democratic participants.
On the whole, I do think the democratic debate was a lot more substantial than the one we witnessed this evening. If we could have excluded Kucinich and Gravel, neither of whom said anything insightful or constructive, then there’d be absolutely no question.
did the debate mention libby or pardons or gonzo?
SnarKassandra @ 222
Yes Kassandra, they were all falling over themselves saying Libby was getting a raw deal and ought to be freed on appeal or pardoned, one of the more repulsive parts of the evening.
DrenchedOtter @ 223
BLECH!!!! Definitely glad i spent the time on my blog instead!
Wow I knew it would be ….interesting but that they all bandwangoned on the convict ON CAMERA!?!?!
They really are living in their own zipcode of wonderland aren’t they.
Kodus to those souls who nore it out and i’d love to get a transcript (I’d like to get one on the dems as well if anyone knows where one is posted)

less surprised than outraged. . .

that my taxpayer funds must
pay for it, right?!
damn skippy!
The Republicans could certainly use someone like Reagan on the stage…lord knows they need more Rons.
darkblack @ 116
Your name foretells your dark humor. Shades of Ronnie Raygun’s “The bombs will start falling in 5 minutes”
Giuliani (maybe): “I love the smell of asbestos in the morning.”
Hugh @ 149
Holding back, showing too much restraint, not being true to his barbarian nature.
When each one of these guys started talking about how the free market system can fix health care, it was clear that not a single one has a clue about how the people in country are doing. People with high incomes and good health insurance are one catastrophic illness away from trouble. I volunteer at a local hospital and I have seen people with million dollar homes and professional careers loose nearly everything when one spouse has to quite a job to be a caregiver and life time insurance limits are used up. They have no idea how the insurance industry works. The working poor are wiped out quickly. The better off are wiped out within a couple of years when long term crisis hits. Anyone with so limited knowledge and so little compassion does not deserve to be President.
