Here is the Sunday Talking Head line-up. Read and…well, just read it. (Partially from the AP via SFChron.)
C-Span's Washington Journal — 7:45am – Jeanne Cummings, The Politico, Lobbying & Money Correspondent; 8:30am – Newspaper Articles & Viewer Calls; 9am – John Ukec, Sudanese Ambassador to the U.S.; 9:30am – Phoner with Calls: Phil Gunson, Financial Times, Reporter
ABC's "This Week" — Iraqi President Jalal Talabani; Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa.; NASCAR driver Kyle Petty.
CBS'"Face the Nation" — Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo.; Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.
NBC's "Meet the Press" — Democratic strategists Bob Shrum and James Carville; Republican strategists Mary Matalin and Mike Murphy.
CNN's "Late Edition" — Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Richard Shelby, R-Ala.; Elizabeth Edwards, wife of presidential candidate John Edwards; Tagg Romney, son of presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
"Fox News Sunday" — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker.
I can tell you what I will not be watching — Meet the Press. I can't think of a show less worth viewing with that line-up. Lordy. They should start calling it "Meet My Cronies." If Mary Matalin opens her mouth and says "no underlying crime" or "he's a good, good man" like she always does and there is no pushback from her husband (ha!) or Bob Shrum (HA!) about the fact that a multiple felony conviction on a matter of national security is not only serious but ought to be punished to the fullest extent of the law for an officer of the court who ought to have known better…I'd say Russert ought to call her on it, but he's owned by Dick Cheney.
So, what is catching your eye this morning on the blogs or in the news? If you missed Bob Geiger's political cartoon round-up, do go take a peek. Great stuff this week.
I had trouble with the image resizer that I've been using and so had to use an old photo. Apologies, because I had a great one that Julie sent me. Will use it next week for sure.
PS — Just a quick reminder that I will be on Sam Seder's Show this afternoon at 5 pm ET/2 pm PT, with Glenn Greenwald and Dr. Ron Daniels.

Coffee
Good morning Christy!
At last; The Sunday Boid!!!
Morning jayt — coffee is brewing here and I just took a pan of freshly baked cinnamon pecan rolls out of the oven. We’ve got pooh bear on the teevee and I have a warm dachshund snuggled on my lap. Life is good here at the moment. :)
Hi Christy
I think I’m gonna come to your place – we can not watch MTP together.
HammerCoffee time.Morning all. Sunny and lovely now, but t’storms to the west. It’s weird, but reading the Talking Head lineup almost depresses me more than anything. And MTP? I’d rather watch a Gilligan’s Island rerun.
My personal interest is when are we going to see the recess appointment(s)? Does anyone know when this recess ends?
Good Morning. The talkers have already started with another White Knight story that will star our Pres. The Chris Matthews panel predicts the boy lame-duck will pardon Libby….of course, because he has too many stories to tell. What kind of system is this? The administration whips up a criminal enterprise, but the Don will offer sanction and absolution. What a model for justice.
Good Morning Christy! and firepups!
Who will be watching Meet The Press? What a stale and lazy line-up. (so what else is news, eh?)
NBC is good enough to set aside ninety minutes every Sunday for politics and public affairs, but then they squander that precious time with the self-indulgent likes of Russert and Matthews. It’s a cryin’ shame.
good morrow, christy et al…
whilst you good folks (some of you anyway) will be attending to the tripe and drivel spewing unregulated and unmetered from the orifices of official DCdom, I shall be be scouring YouTube (any other similar sources–any suggestions?)) for material for Woody Guthrie’s Guitar: Plain Talk and Plain-Spoken Songs of Opposition, Protest & Resistance which, if I may say so, is collecting a fairly interesting list of tunes and speech for the delectation and enjoyment of the Left blogworld.
when the Libby movie is made (hey cbl, ya out there?), I think Cloris Leachman could do a fine Mary Matalin.
Gaaaaaaaak…………..maybe all those bad vibes in last nite’s thread were somehow tied up with today’s teevee line-up. That MTP crowd is enough to put me off food for the rest of the day.
Got epu’d wrt to this question: Anybody heard news on status of the fires in FL/GA?
Completely agree.
jayt @ 10
thank you for making this grouch smile!
Waccamaw @ 12
TRex indicated good initial rains last night, IIRC…
jayt @ 11
i danced (so to speak) with Cloris Leachman in a scene in a film i was in last year–Beerfest (everything you might think it were and…LESS), and she’s way too old to play the strident hag matalin…
just sayin’
Alfred Kelgarries @ 7
just found it, it ends tomorrow.
Good Morning. Missed late nite thread. What were the ‘bad vibes’?
solai @ 18
mainly me. i still have no idea if they’re anything but “an undigest bit of meat” to quote scrooge.
Not that I’m going to feel sorry for Bob Shrumm. But he musta REALLY p*ss’d Punkin Haid off to be put on there with Wormtongue and Cruella both.
And isn’t FTN going librul this week? /s
Good thing there’s a few old movies around to watch instead.

isn’t the French Open on today, too? (though i do find all that grunting and gasping to be a bit exhausting)…

what have you got against danny d? there is only one actor who can portray Darth Cheney in all his majesty…Charleton Heston. And hey, look, the politics even match!
jayt @ 21
i think gert frobe is an almost dead ringer for cheney–think “Goldfinger!”

except he died in 1988. wait a minute, maybe…:>
The 2006 elections didn’t have consequences for the Republic Sunday morning talk shows. If anything, the pro-R spiels are more pronounced. In addition to maddening some of us, it really is a major disservice to the public. Al Gore’s “Assault” has wrapped it up nicely.

you decide–notwithstanding that Frobe’s been dead these past decades, the resemblance is striking…
I’m amused listening to cspan wash journal this am. Mod (Steve?) asks a 2nd R caller where he got his talking points, Rush? Female caller wants to see photo of Thompson’s wife again, doesn’t seem to approve of trophy wife. Now 3rd R caller seems to have same talking points as previous 2.
Much more fun than the other sun am pundit puke.
I just went back and perused the last thread. Still have the feeling of looming disaster, AK?
WASHINGTON — The nation’s largest combat veterans group on Friday urged the military to “exercise a little common sense” and call off its investigation of a group of Iraq war veterans who wore their uniforms during anti-war protests.
“Trying to hush up and punish fellow Americans for exercising the same democratic right we’re trying to instill in Iraq is not what we’re all about,” said Gary Kurpius, national commander of the 2.4 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars.
“Someone in the Marine Corps needs to exercise a little common sense and put an end to this matter before it turns into a circus,” Kurpius said.
OT..and a Late Nite repost..Sara, at Orcinus, has a nice piece about Steve Gilliard. I had been reading Gilliard for several years but knew nothing about his medical problems until his last illness. Most people would have lived in self pity..he didn’t..what a terrific human being.
solai @ 18
Maybe not my best word selection……..just that several people were having trouble sleeping and getting feelings of maybe some kind of “bad news day” today. Other than that, it was a wonderful thread; I said in an epu that watching to see where the ripples in the Lake go is one of the great joys of this place.
AK -
Are you *still* awake? No linky for me? Crushed I am. ;-) Hope there’s some zzzzzzzzzs in your near future.

Isn’t it fun when they actually call ‘em out on stuff like that!
Redd, you say in your weekly anticipated post (by me):
I totally understand where you are coming from, and you are right, they are all a waste of time. But I guess it’s the old car wreck thing with me, I find Victrola ToeSuck similarly impossible to “not watch,” tho I hate them all. Maybe I’m a masochist, or I would hate to miss it if any of their evil hearts ceased to function and they fell over on TV.
What a fine looking young neo conservative. Here is a question for “Tagg”. Why don’t you help win the War in Iraq for us by volunteering to fight? That is more important than campaigning for a $150 million wealthy daddy.
Pete King AND Ken Salazar. Have they ever been seen in a room together before?
Are’nt Matalin, Shrum, and Carville all pretty much unemployed so far as to the existing candidates? Is Timmeh giving them audition time?
solai @ 29
regrettably, yes. i still can’t tell if it is just me or something on a wider scale. the few times my talent has manifested this strongly, it was about half and half.
let me give a small example, for i’m falling asleep as i type…
Five days before challenger blew up, i was walking to my desk from a break at the denver fed center and literally fell to my knees. My coworkers surrounded me and asked, “what’s wrong?” i replied, “i think someone just shot down air force one! I see missile contrails in the sky, a ball of fire, and horrified observers on the ground! And a feeling, very strong, of national disaster!” We checked and nothing like that had happened. i wrote up the incident for my superiors in the COC and assumed it was just a bad pizza or something. Until challenger blew up. we watched it, and when the main scene of the solid stage rockets blowing off to the sides came up around the fireball, and then the camera cut back to the horrified audience, we knew. I had the CRAP questioned out of me on that one.
The day my wife died, very suddenly, i knew disaster was coming. I warned her, all my kids, friends, ex-coworkers. Then, at 1:58 pm i got the call from the hospital. she was gone by the time i got there.
those were “10″ feelings. todays started at 10 and has now gone down to between 4 and 5. we’ll see. i’m off to bed now. one bit of wisdom; if this thing hits, wisdom will be the better course of valor. that’s all i know. see everyone tonight.

To be played in the movie by – Roseanne Barr.
g-night, Alfred.
Good morning all.
Last night Selise, Scarcrow and I along with Mr. Rev. raised our glasses in memory of Steve. I wish he had been here to eviscerate the Korea/Iraq analogy as only he could have.
Anyway before Selise left this morning we saw the line-up and gagged over Timmeh’s quartet. Why does he even bother?
And why does anyone even bother spending precious time watching him?
Me, I’ll be preaching about Fascism in America this morning. Guaranteed it will be more informative than anything on MTP.
PeteCO @ 39

It’s a toughie. Watch Timmeh & the Bobbleheads (there’s a band name for you) or ride my bike out to the lake. So many choices….

I remember walking by my tv one day as they were covering the upcoming Challenger launch & a thought popped into my head that if anything was going to go wrong with any of the shuttle launches at that time, it was going to be the Challenger. In & out thought.
When the Challenger blew up, I was seriously spooked that I had had that premonition type thought.

I had the same thing happen to me 3 different times. When my aunt was diagnosed with leukemia, when the neighbor girl was taken to the hospital and later died of a brain tumor and when my dog had blood in her urine and it turned out to be kidney disease. All three I had a flash of insight that they were ultimaltely going to be fatal when I initially heard the news. I dismissed the thoughts immediately though, telling myself I was one sick puppy for even thinking in those terms. But eventually when you find out that it was true, I think that we do have some kind of tuning in if we listen to it.
Good morning (yawns and adjusts a cat sleeping on my arm), everyone.
Lots of grief, gireving, contemplation, mourning – for those lost – each and every soul.
And tired – of all things war-like. War, needless violence, planned violence, war analogies seeping through every aspect of our lives – battling illness, political fights, battles without end, sports fights to th death, sudden death. We are a culture of war and death.
I’d like to move to a different set of analogies. One which speaks to growth, adaptation, of compassion – of those lovely virtues, of possibility, of understanding, of inquiry, of reason.
I really think that the US is at an end of an era. But I don’t see anyone or any concerted effort to bring about betterment, of reconciliation and of peace – with the very notable exception of the present company. *g*
Welcome to GWB’s Ameruika where the 1st amendment’s status is that of a homeless person.
Please Don’t Cheer The Graduates
Illinois High School Students Denied Their Diplomas Because Audience Members Cheered For Them
….. five students denied diplomas from the lone public high school in Galesburg after enthusiastic friends or family members cheered for them during commencement.
About a month before the May 27 ceremony, Galesburg High students and their parents had to sign a contract promising to act in a dignified way. Violators were warned they could be denied their diplomas and barred from the after-graduation party.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories…..6555.shtml
So the graduates who crossed the stage are responsible for the audiences behavior. The principal has based denial of diplomas on the belief that audience members cheering the graduates on the stages must be related and are bound by the contract. Some lawyer is going to have rollicking time with this error in assumptions, squashing of 1st amendment, coercion, etc….

O Lord what a morning. I get to go do my church job, so I wish you all a lovely day. In TX here it is truly lovely; not yet killer hot. She’s worked hard for alot of grief. I hope she gets a good rest to grieve and refresh. She was right along time ago. Shalom.

Good morning from L.A. June gloom in the form of a thick marine layer today in Santa Monica. My Irish cousins are coming to visit this week, so good times ahead. I know at least Kayleigh will be glued to the Libby sentencing news w/me on Tues. :)
Catching my eye on Juan Cole’s blog this a.m.- the butcher’s bill from Iraq yesterday via McClatchy, & this comment from Prof. Cole:
“The US was engaged in a bombing campaign against the civilian neighborhood of Habibiya in Sadr City (Shiite East Baghdad) on Saturday evening. The strikes probably targeted Mahdi Army militiamen; however, you can’t bomb civilian neighborhoods without killing civilians.”
Our unnecessary war kills & maims so many that hardly make a ripple in U.S. MSM coverage of Iraq…

After my mom died she came to me in a dream to tell me she was happy & busy. Another time she came in a dream to warn me of something.
The interesting thing that intrigued me was that both times I fell asleep, had the dreams & then woke up suddenly and only 15-20 minutes had passed.
I’ve had other moments, not as awesome & dramatic as AK’s experiences but I do pay attention when they randomly occur.
Steve @ 48
The really bad news about the seven deaths yesterday is that they resulted from six different attacks. The Iraqi partisans seem to be learning quickly and are doing their own counter-surge. The psychological stress on the troops has got to be increasing to intolerable levels. They are now being sent out in small groups into hostile neighborhoods; they now just go out everyday waiting to be blown up. Un-fucking real.
It does seem that the pundits have chosen Fred Thompson to be their candidate. I hope Mrs.T has a wardrobe malfunction.
I actually agree with Thompson that we are battling between forces of civilization & evil but I think his interpretion of those forces is wrong, wrong.
“Evil is the absence of truth.”
“Why They Booed Her in Mexico.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06…..ey.html?hp
Chris Matthews should read this. He insisted she was booed because of Iraq. A guest told him it was because of much more than Iraq but facts don’t mean a thing to CM so his Iraq-is-the reason was the last word. An assault on reason and on the facts.
wgg: tokin lib’rul @ 63

“I have an editor acquaintance who has coined the phrase, `Berlin-o-meter’; flippant but also serious; as in: what time is it? In 1931 there was still debate and dissent in Germany; in 1933, after the mass arrests, that was over. What time is it regarding debate? It’s about 1931.”

I’m currently about a third of the way through Robert Fisk’s “The Great War for Civilization” (the title is an ironic reference to an inscription on one of his father’s WW1 medals) and it really isn’t that simple. I unreservedly recommend this book to everyone who’s interested in learning more about the interaction of the West (the US & UK, primarily) and the Middle East.

Maybe I’m just in a really, really good mood this morning, but with the exception of Mary Ma(d hatter)talin, Shrum, Murphy and even Jimmy Boy were minimally annoying. Of course they stayed well away from actual contraversial subjects like the attorney firings or the Libby trial. I guess DickHead told Timmy to stay away from discussing Libby. Surpising they could do it considering they spent so much time discussing the guy that plays a DA on TV and Mary being on the show and all.
I think Mary Matalin may be sending signals to the terrorists and there is a code that determines whether or not she is waving her snotrag in her hands or not and which hand it’s in.
Apparently it’s time for another shiny object hyped up “thwarted terrorist plot.” The spokesman yesterday made a big deal that the JFK guys were “even using satellite technology (via google earth) to conduct surveillance on JFK. Sheesh, I was surprised awhile back to discover that I could check out Miramar Naval Air Station in fine enough detail to see the skid marks on the runways and virtually the rivets on the fuselages of the fighter jets via google.
Oooops, somebody’s at the door, it’s the DHS, apparently I’m planning an attack on the Navy base. I guess I’ll be rooming with Padilla now!
Newt’s critique of Bush on Fox this morning was devastating. Our candidates should have been taking notes.

As the military frustration increases, we will see more use of air against civilian targets. They are going to turn Baghdad into another Stalingrad; with the same outcome. I think Gilliard used the same analogy quite a while ago.
Old Gold at 85 — It’s all part of the new coordinated GOP strategy: save the party, even if it means trashing the Bushies to do it. Reputation rehab 101 for them. I have something coming up on that in a bit…

My suggestion for a possible alternative to watching MTP this am is to check out Mavis Staples’ new album, We’ll Never Turn Back.
*We’ll Never Turn Back combines raw, emotional, contemporized versions of some of the freedom songs that provided the soundtrack to the civil rights movement of the 1950s/60s, along with other traditional songs, and new originals written by Mavis and Ry.* Ry, being Ry Cooder who some of you may remember, produced.
Now, I’m off to church to do some music…playing my flute today.
Feed the good tree. Starve the bad tree.
On another note: The HSS is hosting a five week blog about pandemic flu planning. The panel includes DeminCT – Greg Dworkin; Rebecca Patton – the president of the American Nurses Association, the FluWiki founder, Michael Leavitt – the HHS Sec, a bioethicist and many others from across the spectrum. I would encourage you to visit and engage. It’s a great way to find out just how much isn’t planned, isn’t yet coordinated, and also to find resources and light a fire under leaders. The blog opened on May 22 and runs until June 27.
N=1 at 91 — Very helpful — thanks much. I know little to nothing about the potential for pandemic planning, but what little I do know says there hasn’t been much and what has been done has been half-assed. Would be good to dig into that a bit more for my own peace of mind (or lack thereof).

Did anyone else see this?
Stefanopolis interviewing Iraqi president Talabani this morning:
“The Iraqi army will be able to defend Iraq by the end of next year.” 18 more months. December 2008.
Our troops get how long in basic training before being given the opportunity to be killed, brain damaged, or to have limbs blown off? 6 to 8 weeks?
Any Iraqi army troop should have no more than 6-8 weeks to get his/her act together.
What is 18 months times 2 billion dollars a week? 2×4×18=144 billion
What is 18 months times 100 soldiers deaths?
18×100=1800
(Sorry FDL for the elementary lay out. I think it is significant after Talabani’s statement)
Another 18 months is another 144 billion dollars, and another 1800 American deaths. No. Come on congress.
No provocation. No progress. Get out now.
A half trillion dollars for an ego gone wild.
I think this ego is also a wimp. I despise that combination.
