Who made the second phone call to her? Was she in the hospital room when Gonzales and Card talked to her gravely-ill husband, or was she asked to leave? If she was present, were any threats made by Gonzales and Card toward her gravely-ill husband? Toward her? Toward Comey? Toward anyone else in the hospital room? Was her gravely-ill husband’s doctor present? Was her husband’s doctor even contacted? By her? By the hospital’s staff?

In other words, Mrs. Ashcroft would have firsthand knowledge of all the events surrounding that night’s nefarious incident. She’s the “best” witness who could provide the “best evidence.”

Call her. Subpoena her if necessary. We The People want to know.

I am so, so sorry to hear that.

Finally, when a Republican says “I don’t recall,” I might believe him.

I will believe him. I had a friend who was hospitalized with pancreatitis. He was on a morphine drip for almost a month. Near the end of his stay he told me that he couldn’t remember me visitng him during the first few weeks. I expect that Ashcroft won’t have much to say.

I’m telling you, all of a sudden, I’m feeling hopeful. They’re dropping like flies. Everyone is either pleading the 5th or begging for immunity. There’s that story linking Rove to an Alabama scandal and Palast looks to be coming through after all the hype. I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Could be. I certainly hope so.

How are they dropping? Resigning before an investigation begins is not being viewed as an admission of anything. It may look suspicious, but until formal charges are brought, I say they are simply getting away with it.

Phew. Back from shopping with the teenager. Broke, tired, but not too tired for the Lake.

Teddy, I think this is what separates us from the Republicans. Wives who are not elected officials are not fair game; we call them only if they are 1) implicated personally in wrong doing, as in the Wives Club a la Mrs. DeLay, and 2) if we have no other method by which we can ascertain the truth.

The hospital’s phone records should be the next line of inquiry, along with a specific request for documentation of White House phone system showing any phone calls made to the hospital’s exchange.

Asking for Ashcroft’s testimony also allows the SJC to get closer to the matter of the NSA’s program as well; they can poke around the perimeter to find out exactly how bad this was that even Ashcroft rejected signing off from his supine position in the hospital.

I think they should check cell phones too.

She might not be “fair game,” (and I agree), but she is certainly entitled to be known by her first name, and to report who said what on the telephone. Under oath if necessary.
