Thompson’s involvement with the Libby Defense Trust and his public statements about the case should by themselves be enough to disqualify him for the Presidency. I would love it if it turns out that he wrote to Judge Walton, but he’s probably smart enough not to have done that.

I agree. When I heard him spewing the Republican talking points about Libby I immediately blew him off as a viable candidate. He was spewing before it was abundently clear (to all but us, that is) that Valerie was covert. The question now, I suppose, is how much denial the moderate repubs are in.

I wonder how Iraq issue will be handled in 2008, especially if Turkey invades the one part that seems to be doing alright after our invasion.

What a mess…at least we know that whoever the Republican candidate is, the entire Iraq mess will be blamed squarely on Clinton and the “surrendercrats”…with a few swipes at Carter.

That’s why Dems should elect someone like John Edwards, who is truly anti-war, in the primary and then in the general election the Republicans should throw up their hands in disgust at their perpetual-war candidate and vote in Edwards by acclamation. Give the Liberals a chance, despite the fact Edwards isn’t so terribly Liberal, and then if things don’t go well they can blame it all on Liberals and ban ‘em from Presidential politics for another 35 years.

Yeah, toss it to Liberals, they like the really hard problems.

Obviously I’m missing something when it comes to the awesome charisma of Fred Thompson. Some of my problem is aesthetic. It’s those papery little plastic surgery cat scratch wrinkles on his cheeks. The first person I ever noticed them on was Gore Vidal, and I figured he must have had his facelift sometime around when Aaron Burr died, so he had an excuse. The science was in its infancy.

But Fred Thompson is only 64. And his facelift looks like it cost less than John Edwards’ haircut. What kind of message does that send?

That he’s in touch with the common man? No fancy-schmancy expensive facelifts for Good Ol’ Fred!
