TRex !!!
Second
too late for the zed
Quatro
I let downstairs know, TRex.
Suzanne @ 5
Thank you, Suzanne.
Howdy All !!!
Went to the most ‘party’ ever … had to come here to regain my sanity.
I always get these guys confused with the Rightous Brothers. Which was the one Bill Medley was in?
Rightous has Medley
quasi EPU’d …
teddysf … good link to the kinsley article. nice mix of snark and sense
Suzanne @ 8
The Righteous Brothers.
The streamimg thing is typical streaming radio, we just play the stream over a certain parcel of land on that grid. But the stream is still accessable over shoutcast.
I’ll go with A, TRex–these guys were pioneers.
Alias, congratulations!
Petrocelli @ 7
Sorry, that should read … “the most boring party ever“
everly bros – hmmm cathy’s clown – love that song as as dream dream dream – i think i’m dating myself……arghhhhh lol
Till this day, there’s no other harmony quite like the Everlys. Just timeless. And magic. “Dream” was my favorite of their singles.
Sandia Blanca @ 13
I’m with you. God, their gorgeous voices. And oh, Don! Those eyes! Those suits!
I die, I die.
Anyhow, that’s it for me, gang. I’m off to bed.
Good night, everyone.
Thanks guys. *yawns* Oh yes, and i consider the Everly Brothers pioneers, myself.
Well, I think I will head for bed. Tomorrow is the local farmer’s market and my favorite organic farmer may have the first batch of his glorious heirloom tomatoes. Have to get there early though or they are all gone. Enjoy the music and the snark.
and how’s the b’day boy doing – recovered from partying yet or has this subject been covered TREX?
Nite TRex.
DrDick @ 20
sleep well my friend
juslin @ 16
If you date yourself, do you still have those awkward moments at the front door, when you decide whether to ask yourself in for coffee?
(Sorry juslin, couldn’t resist)
sleep well TRex
Petrocelli @ 15
I hope the hosts don’t come to the lake.
Was Wake Up Little Susie EB or RB?
solai @ 26
You don’t think any of US would through the most boring party ever, do you?
my farmers market finally brought in local jersey strawberries yummmmmmmmm ate almost one pint before i got home
So, is chimpy’s sudden embrace of action against global warming just a stall tactic against renewal of kyoto? From the FT:
solai @ 26
Nah, their skin would burst into flames if touched by water. *g*
You felt that 4.2 in Thousand Palms, LooHoo?
Suzanne @ 27
Everlys. My impression of the RB was that their stuff was a little more serious. If they sang it, the song would have been “Come out of that coma, Little Susie”. That’s just my impression.
wakeup lil susie – the everly bros
We forgot Van Morrison.
Plus I think we just had an earthquake here in north San Diego County.
We’ve gotta remember that the “British Invasion” groups and the psychedelic groups out of S.F. also paid homage to the bluesmen who led the way – guys like Howlin’ Wolf, Leadbelly, Bo Diddley, Otis Spann and Muddy Waters, Slim Harpo, and a whole ton of others.
Otis Spann!
I, too, must head to bed. Blackwater is on my nightstand. Still haven’t opened it.
4.2 in Thousand Palms, LooHoo
solai @ 37
Sleep well.
RB – you’ve lost that loving feeling – my fave RB song -ebb tide…
TexBetsy @ 28
No Betsy, as far as I can tell, all of you are mammals !!! *g*
lee5 @ 30
He’s just looking for something, anything to be the diamond in his turd of an administration.
anyone here like DOO-WOP or just me?
juslin @ 29
Strawberries are extra delightful this year for some reason.
Loo Hoo. @ 35
Oh my, are you alright?
Suzanne @ 32
Must have been that. Dogs went nutzo.
methinks bushco is trying to salvage something from his terrible reign – sorry buddy its a bit late for that – un fucking believable!!
Biggest Righteous Bros. song radio-wise, as I recall, was “Unchained Melody.” Beautiful stuff, but much more heavily produced (and, as persiflage suggests, serious) than the Everlys.
loo hoo – you in cali? or where was the quake?
Yow. Was it just me, or did we get knocked off the air for about 20 minutes?
is everyone OK? i lost the comments for about ten minutes?
… and we’re back …
CD @ 52
it wasn’t just you.
i had tried to post a map from RSOE (the worldwide disaster alert people) when BLOOIE! hope to ghod it weren’t me…
ouch (rubbie cute tushkie) that one hurt. everyone seems to be able to get back in the lake now.
Petrocelli @ 54
i can find no mention of the quake anywhere but the WWD site? msm seems to be ignoring it…
…well those Everly’s sure did blow up the lake
Loo Hoo. @ 35
I think Van Morrison’s best work was with Them. He wasn’t so full of himself in those days, or so it seems to this listener.
Suzanne @ 56
suzanne, i tried to upload an RSOE disaster map thingie. any possibility that was the cause (hangs head in shame…)?
AK, it was a 4.2 according to USGS – not really newsworthy
Let me ask the tech guys, AK but I don’t think so
Just a little server hiccup but it looks like we’re back in business.
Sorry.
AK: go find a stick and wait for punishment
Lee5, I’m Western Slope halfway between the Grand Mesa and the San Jaun’s. Where are you?
okay, then i’ll try uploading this link.
Time is now covering the USA scandal, but from the opposite side. It will be interesting to see how this plays out…if time is doing this story, the msm can’t ignore it any more…
Alfred Kelgarries @ 55
Well, if Bush said it didn’t happen … *g*
spiderpaws @ 63
words my father used to say – i don’t know what was worse – the punishment or the waiting.
AK, you are off the hook – not your link at all. :)
spiderpaws @ 62
my boss already does that. This is SUPPOSED to be recreation, dammit…
i was booted from the comment section – i just now am able to get back on… anyone else have this problem or just the jersey girl?
Suzanne @ 66
what a nice lady! :)
funny, i never got spanked as a kid, didn’t misbehave, THEN. But once I grew up…:>
i see others had a problem too – never mind…..LOL
it was all of us, juslin, not just joisey folks :)
The Everly Bros, in my opinion, began the duet genre – Peter and Gordon, Chad and Jeremy, Righteous Bros, and Simon and Garfunkle who covered “Wake Up Little Suzie” and credit the Everlys as a major influence. The Beatles admit the Everlys were the sound they wanted in “Please Please Me”. “She Loves You” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand” are thinly veiled Don and Phil.
Major influence indeed.
Rushton @ 57
I was a wondering if he would come up on the last thread. How can one possibly narrow down his best work? Give me Them, Veedon Fleece, Common One, Into The Music, Inarticulate Speech of The Heart, Poetic Champions Compose, No Guru No Method No Teacher,,,and recordings of him live with Pee Wee, Fred and Maceo or John Lee Hooker… the man is one of the best!
I’m glad that’s cleared up. I thought it me and was just about to go eat some worms. *g*
For a while, I thought those party hosts had found the Lake. *g*
If anyone is interested, just added a “pin” for myself to our frappr Map.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 67
Oh, admit it, you like a good spanking. *g*
Alfred Kelgarries @ 58
I do so hope I didn’t cause any glitch – clicked on the music link you so kindly provided. Got lost, happily, for I learned how easy it is to bookmark and return to the lake without losing my way.
Helpless Dancer @ 74
Is that a punishment for you or a treat? *g*
Nope, NPB, not you either. A hiccup in the server the tech crew backstage did a bang up job in figuring out and fixing. (round of applause for the tech crew)
…so, can they get Rove with this or does he just slide as usual
(AK linky)
newspaperbrat @ 78
I am NOT ALLOWED to log onto YouTube during work, and I barely get slashdot and FDL privileges. The net is too seductive…
BTW, any fans of the GHOST IN THE SHELL anime should take note that the third installment, SOLID STATE SOCIETY will have its US broadcast premiere on (gah) SCI FI Channel on June 11 at 11 pm EDT. Drool, drool….
Suzanne @ 80
ding!
Alfred Kelgarries @ 64
It’s about Time!
Petrocelli! Boy do I have a bone to pick with you! http://www.theage.com.au/news/…..96454.html
Just where do you Canadians get off being perceived as friendlier than us?
Petrocelli @ 77
that’s between my wife, her ping pong paddle, and me. so there! :>
Petrocelli @ 79
I’m not really sure. During an escape and evasion course back my army days I did eat grubs mixed with cocoa mix out of a c-rat. To tell the truth it wasn’t that bad, except for the wiggling.
spiderpaws @ 81
If TIME is right, he ain’t gonna slide. he finally got his fingerprints on something that won’t let go. Federal Judges take a VERY DIM VIEW of tampering with government corruption trials…for obvious reasons!
yay tech crew!
newspaperbrat @ 83
double ding and a bing! (from someone who knows all to well how fast a server can go down the drain…)
..sounds like it is NOT between you & the wife and the paddle anymore
; )
ok guys ease up on the corporal punishment ;)…. all hands on deck – immediately!!
Ack! Here I was, happily rocking out to Humble Pie, and I find there was an earthquake that booted us. Everyone OK?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XMFRauCPmY
This isn’t Humble Pie but it’s really good, I think. Makes me happy just to listen to it.
AK, my sons love Ghost in the Shell, thanks for the heads up.
Helpless Dancer @ 87
Remember the lost french guys in the amazon that ate SPIDERS? one of them lost partial use of his mouth due to incorrectly removing the poison first…
….how are those midnight snacks, everyone? :>
…well am just itching for Rove to get the hatchet, just itching
persiflage @ 85
Um … well truth be told, every year we’ve won it, we asked that they give first prize to those poor Aussies …
… this is the first year they didn’t listen to us … *g*
(my alternative answer was even less friendly. *g*)
It wasn’t the quake that bounced the lake, Margot. Coinkydink is all.
spiderpaws @ 91
I was in cleveland with my fourteen cousins. you can’t prove a thing.
spidey, have you been able to look at rove’s chart?
me bowing to the expertise of the server crew – thanx
Helpless Dancer @ 87
My bro-in-law did that many times during his stint … I don’t believe my sister ever kissed him on the lips … *g*
Sonny and Cher
The Smothers Brothers
…just don’t snack on Chinese toothpaste at the dollar store…it has antifreeze in it and is now being stopped by customs at the border (up to 3% antifreeze)
Alfred Kelgarries @ 90
You guys are THE BEST !!!
yeah yeah i’m a slow typer
spiderpaws @ 103
just wish they’d be so effective BEFORE ALL THE PETS DIED, or HAD PERMANENT LIVER/KIDNEY DAMAGE!
snarl rage growl fume (my other son in law is a vet…and he’s absolutely ballistic over the melamine thing..)
Rushton @ 57
? and the Mysterians was so cool. Van Morrison, I’ll go back now and read.
Petrocelli @ 101
What happens in the swamp, stays in the swamp.
((((((((((((backstage crew))))))))))))
Loo Hoo. @ 107
Weren’t the Mysterians a low-budge japanese tv show before anime really caught on? vague memories of late night tv broadcasts…
? and the Mysterians – 96 Tears?
Alfred Kelgarries @ 110
yep. linky.
now i’ll go read up on the rock group…
…it is so much more than just melemime tho…I see where the chinese gov have executed one captain of industry recently for tampering with food, they’ve known for awhile about this mess…did anyone see the Twinkie item at the Post? says there is Chinese petroleum in Twinkies now…not that I would eat a twinkie but someone should tell TRex
? and The Mysterians Web Site:
linky.
? need help, btw.
…in the old days Twinkies were made in the USA…is this a huge message or what?
dang, ?’s house burned down. thanks for the link AK
Suzanne @ 80
Yeah, techies!
spiderpaws @ 113
many years ago, long before china exported anything, my wife gave a twinkie she’d been given at work to our dog, who was widely known to eat anything edible.
He sniffed it thoroughly for about three minutes, gingerly picked it up in his teeth, went to the far corner of our lot and dug a hole and buried it, then peed on the hole.
We didn’t have to go to the hospital from laughter injuries, but it was close. I would have loved to record the scene, but by the time we realized what was happening it was over with.
the mysterians was a schlocky japanese sci-fi flick – god-awful as i recal tho i did watch it
Twinkies are right up there with apple pie as american food, spidey.
Hmmm, when is someone going to mention Elvis?
Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
Ike and Tina
Petrocelli @ 121
Is he showing up on Twinkies?
Alfred Kelgarries @ 118
Smart dog! What a great story.
Suzanne @ 116
i live to serve the lake.
oh and an apology for a rather off-kilter rant about tinfoil hat theories the other night. it had been a really bad couple of days at work and my father had just fallen and gone to the hospital for stitches (he fell through the glass door on our shower, somehow. he got one cut that required a stitch, and otherwise was fine. the paramedics said he should have died, the door was all knife-edged shards of glass with him laying in the middle of them.) He’s fine now, but I was in a REALLY BAD MOOD. I’ve promised my granddaughter i won’t ever post again when I’m angry.
spiderpaws @ 95
As long as congress keeps on scratching!
Recent 96 Tears performance

They still sound just as good, too.
peaches and herb…. santo and johnny….roberta flack and donny hathaway….
…gawd, ?’s had some bad jou-jou losing dogs and a bird, what a bummer! not to mention his house…
kirk murphy @ 123
I believe he ate half the Twinkies ever produced. *g*
Troglaman @ 102
Oh yeah.
..they takin’ up a collection for ?
delaney and bonnie….
the pump dont work cause the vandals took the handle
Suzanne @ 111
Yeah Yes Absolutamente.
If Conyers can bring Rove to his knees (Don’t get excited Ted Haggard)
I will phone his office and apologize for calling him (Conyers) ‘incompetent’.
I will say that his hearings can be better organized, a la Waxman, Leahy, etc.
There was a Flip Wilson marathon a couple of summers ago on some cable channel. A neighbor told me I sounded like I was having way more fun than was legal;)
Flip on Johnny Carson
Alfred Kelgarries @ 112
I’m thinking of the rock group, ? and the Mysterians. Van Morrison before he was a star on his own.
Petrocelli @ 121
Well I’ll be glad to mention Elvis – he was very kind to my Dad when we lived in Memphis. Helped raise lots of money for the then Community Chest now United Fund. My mother wasn’t so impressed and my sister and I were sent off to boarding school. Sweet dear admitted it had more to do with Jerry Lee Lewis than Elvis.
Bonnie and Clyde
The Captain & Tennille
TheOtherWA @ 124
I’m about to crash, so please let me favor you with my own favorite Scamp story (that was the dog’s name, Scamp. he was a mutt, about three feet at the should and five feet long, black short coat, head and muzzle pointey rather than flat). Anyways, my wife and I were having dinner with some friends when my youngest daughter was about 3 years old. Some friends had come over for the evening to watch our NEW COLOR TV (hint as to my age again) as they didn’t have one yet. We left our kid and their kid (who was four IIRC) at the table in their raised chairs while we watched the program. We heard muttered squeals of laughter from the table but didn’t hear crashes so we ignored them to enjoy the program (no VCR’s yet!).
Then Scamp trotted into the room wearing the most mournful expression on his face. he was coated from head to tail and halfway down his sides, in butter. NOT margarine, but butter. He looked mournfully at us and we all raced in to the table. Youngest daughter had her hands in the butter tub and was trying to coax her victim back for more. The younger boy was also coated in butter. the minute he saw his parents he started bawling, sure he was going to die.
instead, we all about killed ourselves laughing. then we put the kids and the dog in the tub and cleaned them up. They didn’t get spanked, we couldn’t bring ourselves to do it after having gotten so much fun out of the whole business. We DID, however, always put away the butter and such after than when we were watching TV after dinner.
Night all. see you tomorrow!
g’nite AK. that is a great Scamp story :) sleep well
G’nite AK !!!
Alfred Kelgarries @ 141
Now that is a dog tale! FOFL – nite nite AK
did someone say there was a link to the time article re Rove
juslin @ 119
Juslin, totally different Mysterians, girlscout!
Poor Scamp! He was trying to be a good buddy to the kids and got buttered and bathed for his efforts.
There are few things in life better than dogs and little kids. Nite, all. It’s been a looooong week, and I’m looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.
here is the link spidey
Great stories, AK. thanks :)
Good night!
spiderpaws @ 145
It’s on their front page, Time.
g’nite TOW sleep well
OMG!!!!! Paul Simon.
TOWA – its a dogs world and we are all so lucky to live in their wonderland.
Sleep well and late as possible.
This ole brat is gonna turn in too and thanks to all for another memorable late late nite at da lake!
wow, front page, that ought to catch Rove’s eye…does anyone read Time anymore? such a piece of trash
loo hoo@ 146
i know the group – ? and the mysterians – 96 tears – i’m a huge music fan of pretty much all genres
…looks like everyone’s going to bed, must be the witching (and spider) hour…
Loo Hoo. @ 152
Ahem … wot’s dis then oim hearin’ ?
You don’t like Glenn Frey and the lads?
I’m doing dishes and vacuuming, spidey. have a showing in the morning – was to go before i can head off to bed
…and how about that duet with Johnny Cash & Mama Cass!!!! amazing
well don’t get carried away Suzi, how dirty can the place be? you’re washing it every other day!!!!!!
Someone wondered about Rove’s chart (too lazy to look back thru comments) and not sure if Spiderpaws has responded. Her astrological insights are always excellent. Searched a little and found this, will attempt a link. Rove chart
spiderpaws @ 159
Mr. Johnny Cash is the only CW singer I liked and I liked him a lot. To me, his style was the epitome of the American Rebel, but I was a young Canuck, so what the he** did I know.
Yippee! My first attempt at linking worked. (smug grin)
off to read the time article, thanks for that linky.
I know spidey, i’m cleaning it every friggin day. want it sparkling and beautiful so the buyers fall in love with it.
thanks, newdealfarmgrrlll, i was the one asking about rove’s chart.
we can go on and on – jackson brown dueting with joni mitchell….
bonnie raitt dueting with every body lol – love her too
that chart on Rove is not calculated for his actual birth time (but you knew that) I’ll see if I can find a link to one that has the time…I saw a progressed chart for him a few months ago and as I recall the astrologer talked about his diminishing power (til he only had a wittle oink left) and his fortunes being tied up with Bush and therefore really going in the toilet along with the chimp…can’t remember much else but I’ll look back and try to return in a little while if y’all aren’t asleep ahem
Suzanne @ 158
Best luck on the showing, Suzanne.
NewDealFarmGrrrlll @ 161
Thanks NDFG – that certainly got my attention cause my son is a Capricorn born on Jan 2nd. Who knew Karl Rove was born on Xmas Day – so guess that confirms he is the anti-Christ. heh heh…
I’ve got to start paying closer attention….
and so to bed finally….sweet dreams pups!
thanks, loohoo i am so wanting this place sold :) wanna move north, get high speed internet access and enjoy being retired.
waving across monterey bay, g’nite npb
Petrocelli @ 157
I don’t know them, Petrocelli!
would that be glenn frey and the eagles??
Glenn Frey former Eagle, had a solo hit with Smuggler’s Blues, iirc
Petrocelli @ 162
Petrocelli, my dear. Never hear of Hank Williams? I still turn him on for ironing. The best!
spiderpaws @ 167
yes, i noticed, but was getting nowhere trying to find something more accurate. Would really appreciate it if you find the info. Work has been exhausting the last few months so have been barely skimming Mountain Astrologer, and no time for astro internet browsing. Always appreciate your astro comments.
of course, i’ve been cleaning and who knows what that does to the brain cells.
Petrocelli @ 157
Don’t know them, sweetie.
juslin @ 166
Totally.
Loo Hoo. @ 172
AKA … The Eagles
spiderpaws @ 167
Thank you so much!
Loo Hoo. @ 181
Is spiderpaws always this accurate?
Loo Hoo. @ 175
I’ve never heard any of Mr. Williams’ songs.
Mr. Johnny Cash got me with his black hat and black coat … I thought he was thumbing his nose at all those who said bad guys wear black … and I loved his songs, esp. the ones he sang in that prison.
i tried to hang in as long as i could but my eyes wont co-operate so i’ll bid all a good night… be good y’all
Suzanne @ 170
High speed internet access is key these days, no?
Will you be at YK2, Suzanne? Sure hope to meet you there or sometime.
Speaking about popular media, did anyone else see this?
http://www.latimes.com/news/pr…..-frontpage
Rethugs are now promoting children’s picture books to teach 5 year olds to hate us
I’m sure you have heard Hank’s songs. Hey Good Looking, Whatcha Got Cooking, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, Your Cheating Heart, etc. Here is his Wiki
Yes, Petrocelli, Spiderpaws is that good. :)
Not likely to be going to YK2 this year – maybe next year after I’ve sold the cottage and moved.
Suzanne @ 187
Thanks Suz, yes I have heard his songs … infectious. Johnny Cash’s persona was … remarkable to me.
Suzanne @ 188
Does spiderpaws have his own site?
spidey does not that I aware of, Petrocelli. She has earned her excellent reputation here at the Lake. TRex has said previously that he considers her to be the resident star gazer at the Lake.
Petrocelli @ 183
My, my, my petrocelli. Hank Williams is the best. He is the father of country. Brilliant. But remember, even the best recordings are old, so be prepared. I’m sure you know him, check:
http://www.amazon.com/Hank-Wil…..B000001F76
Your Cheatin’ Heart has been done again by Nora Jones.
Suzanne @ 191
Sorry, I erroneously called spidey a ‘he’ … I’ve met many astrologers … some frauds, some who were very good at reading charts and few who could actually look into the future … spidey might be one of the latter, if the accuracy holds up and gets better over a period of time.
Loo Hoo. @ 192
Oooh … Norah Jones … don’t get me started …
Hank Williams is a basic. It’s like knowing that flour goes in cake.
Loo Hoo. @ 195
Yes, I have heard some of his songs and have caught myself humming them from time to time … Johnny Cash’s persona resonated with me … and I guess it still does.
Now, about your dislike for the Eagles … *g*
from a washingtonton post op ed
here is the link
Suzanne @ 197
I didn’t really like the Beatles’ … probably because my older siblings played their songs over and over and over … until I heard Come Together.
One of my first girlfriends was french, her name was/still is Michelle …
Petrocelli @ 196
Your Cheatin’ Heart with Nora.
Loo Hoo. @ 199
My fav. song of all time is Hotel California … the duelling guitars … I can hear it anytime, even in my sleep and I get high without getting high.
Hotel California reminds me of good times in Mexico.
Night night, Petrocelli and anyone still out there.
ok, that’s it for me tonight folks. g’nite all.
Loo Hoo. @ 201
It’s 4 a.m. in Toronto
Thank you for restoring my sanity !!!
G’nite Suz, LooHoo, everyone else …
Night, Suzanne, and thanks for a great night!
My spookiest fav is Natalie Merchant’s…
This House Is On Fire
soon come, soon come the day this tinderbox
is gonna blow in your face
I don’t have the gift of the prophecy
telling everybody how it’s gonna be
you go passing wrong for right and right for wrong
people only stand for that for just so long
it’s all gonna catch like a house on fire
spark an evil blaze and burn higher
well, I don’t have the gift of the prophecy
telling everybody how it’s gonna be
you go passing wrong for right and right for wrong
people only stand for that for just so long
I don’t have the gift of the prophecy
telling everybody how it’s gonna be
there’s a wild fire catching in the whip of the wind
that could start a conflagration
like there has never been.

sleep well…
Night Kirk. Sorry nobody else can stay awake!!
well the chart I find here in my stash on Rove is set for sunrise and also has no birth time (apologies to farmgirrl) but what I see here coming up with the major slow moving planets (since we wouldn’t be able to talk about the faster moving ones since we have no birth time) is that he will have a retrograding Uranus in his second house in a few weeks and that will last all summer. Since Uranus appears to be a significant planet in his chart this will maybe “break” his spirit a bit, definitly his financial status could undergo a change…then we look to next year (for fun) and see that he may be having a Pluto retrograde through his first house…hmmm, how tragic. In November he has Jupiter probably about to transit his first house as well and Jupiter will no doubt meet up with Pluto and well, I can’t really say what that means since I don’t have degrees. One thing is for sure Pluto will hit every planet in his frst house which looks to be the sun, venus, mercury, saturn and Mars. No wonder he’s a power monger, they are all in capricorn. Major transformation. Maybe he exits from Bush, that would be different.
no worries, Loo Hoo :)
spiderpaws, thank you for sharing your gift.
all most welcome…
goodnight spiderpaws.
goodnight Lake
sleep well….
That’ll be the Day is a Buddy Holly Song.
“That’ll be the day-a-aaa that I die
a woo a woo hoo,
I gotta jump in here at the end and say:
vastly underrated rock-and roll-pioneers or just a couple of reedy-voiced hillbillies?
Discuss.
Dude: not ‘vastly underrated at all’, but rather completely understood as the connection between country of the ’40s and ‘50 with the new rock scene.
without the Everly’s, John & Paul would have never sung harmony, and Simon would have been a record store clerk in the bad part of London.
Seriously, vocal rock’n’roll owes a ton to these guys, as well as a few others, but in re: harmony singing, these guys connected the Louvin Brothers to the rock record buying public.
And lo, it was good.
I’ll call you tomorrow and explain/debate!
Loo Hoo. @ 192
you’re probably not still up but, a little known fact:
Nora Jones’ biological father is Ravi Shankar. took me a while to get my head around that …….
and she’s in a new film called “My Blueberry Nights” …….
Good morning. Coffee’s on.
Good morning pups!
Morning.
Michael Kinsley, although not always to my liking, has an excellent
deconstruction of the box in which the Republicans and their media enablers have placed the Democrats.
Good morning pups.
OT to Marion if she shows up — as of two days ago, my mouth is stitches-free for the first time since May 3rd.
Hardly a ripple on the lake, just now a slight breeze sends the quietist of ripples, a Porgy and Bess-Summertime morning is in the air……
Just now catching up, last weekend was stellar – brilliant, new stars for the constellation bringing light to darkly troubled times, guidance through the wilderness of outrageous fortune (and (thanks TRex et al) fuckery). [/wax poetica]
You all sure do good work. All the best…..
… and a very sobering story in the LATimes on the death spiral that traditional print journalism is in.
This is not something for anybody to crow about.

Used to read it on-line daily……..never go there now unless linked by someone at the Lake. Everyone here understands the “why” behind that and the departure of some good voices is a great sadness. :-(
Good morning everyone…it is a dark and stormy one here in the upper Midwest. We could use the rain, so I won’t whine too much.
Good morning, pups. It’s raining! It’s raining!! It’s finally raining!!! Everly Brothers? Vastly underrated. The NYT today has guest columnist Timothy Egan on the Gates Foundation and what it needs to learn about making American politicians pay attention, and Bob Herbert has more horror stories about the NYC cops in the classroom. They’ll curl your hair…

Coffee and tea are ready, and so is a selection of bagels with cream cheese and lox. They’re already split, and the toaster is waiting. Have a wonderful day — I know my garden will!
Retirin’, congratulations on being suture-free. My guy says I’m healing nicely and we’ve got the bottom half planned for July, on Friday the 13th. At least his name isn’t Freddy! It would seem that your surgery was more involved than mine, because my stitches were out in 10 days. Glad you’re doing well.
From HUAC to PUAC, come on upstairs for Christy’s morning thread.
Pull Up A Chair
Thanks, Marion. I’m feeling well enough that some solid food — maybe one of those chewy bagels — sounds pretty good. Good luck on your next surgery.

Absolutely “vastly underrated rock-and roll-pioneers”!
Memories of harmonizng with Joe Graves in high school chem lab back in the late ’50s. The Everly Brothers dominate the sound track of my adolescence
Sorry, it’s “Wake Up, Little Susie” that was their iconic song, and yet another in the long history of a song starting where you thought the kids had done something bad — like, you know, sex — and it turns out they had just fallen asleep, so they’re good kids but they have to explain it to their parents. And kids are so misunderstood!!!
That was the big hit at the parties in people’s basements about 120 years ago, when you’d sneak a little rum in that coke and get that hand a little closer to where it wasn’t supposed to be. And then, for the last, close dance, there would be “Dream,” also by the Everlys.
And kids, don’t judge them on this reedy little sound over GooTube.
Underrated for sure.
They had it all. Harmony, muscianship, clever lyrics. They were the first, that I’m aware of, to introduce different tempi in one song.
Wake Up Little Suzie and Dream were my favorite Everly Bros tunes. They were pioneers no doubt about it. That harmony – listen to old Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley tunes and you will hear where the harmony came from – referred to as that “high lonesome sound”. I listened to the Everly Brothers when they were popular (I was born in 1952) and then again with my daughter born in 1982. We had Gene Pitney, Everly Brothers, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline tapes interspersed with radio pop music from the 1980s, 90s and 2000s as our eclectic mix riding in the car together for many miles over the years.
