You know what this version of "Gold Dust Woman" really needs?
More cowbell.
Happy (slightly late) birthday, Stevie Nicks, 5/26/48.
Lyrics below the fold.
Gold Dust Woman
Rock on- gold dust woman
Take your silver spoon
And dig your grave
Heartless challenge
Pick your path and Ill pray
Wake up in the morning
See your sunrise- loves- to go down
Lousy lovers- pick their prey
But they never cry out loud
Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now- do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.
Rock on- ancient woman
Follow those who pale
In your shadow
Rulers make bad lovers
You better put your kingdom up for sale
Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now- do you know how
Pickup the pieces and go home.

dayam, guess i’ll be here until 4am while it loads up…
Oh, I know. These days it’s more like fill the bathtub with cookie dough and go bobbing for M&M’s.
Suzanne @ 13
Hey Suz, a few months ago, I heard Stevie on my friend’s 6.1 Dolby surround
Euro-bloody-expensive- stereo … sounded like she was in the room.
What a talent! What a voice!
TRex @ 19
Shhh! Do NOT give anyone in this house ideas like that!
wouldn’t the plural be valia, anyhow?
Oh, come on! I’ve done it before, it’s fun.

That would be so freakin’ sweet. I hate that corrupt sack of pus like poison.
ok, it is really bedtime now. Good night all!
Every now and then, I kind of think maybe we should all just emigrate to Mexico. Great beaches, low cost of living. I mean, why not? At least there you’re not constantly under surveillance.
g’nite, ll. prayers.
((( thank you suzanne )))
TRex @ 29
And it would bring such a smile to Max Cleland’s face, too.
Of course, as the article notes, “The state has not been high on the Democrats’ target list, as the national party has focused more on states like Texas and Kentucky.”
Ahem.
That sounds familiar . . .
TexBetsy @ 27
I thought you would say Corpus Christy or maybe Padre Island.

Define “affordable.”

OK, I guess…as long as you don’t invite Tom DeLay.
Peace and healing in sleep, LL.
Thanks, TRex. After a bad night, a little Stevie is just the cure. Thirty years later, and I still have a crush…..sigh.
Where do you live now, oddmommy? Do you have to retake the bar if you move to another state?
TRex @ 31
I had a university lecturer who retired to Mexico and loves it. With only the proceeds from the sale of her house to support her she now has a lovely villa by the sea and enough money, by her calculation, to last for 20 years.

I’m sorry for messing up Peterr’s comment. Here is what I intended to say:
Chambliss is a slimy sleazy scumbag bottom-dwelling knuckle-dragging traitorous Rove whore who, to get elected, Swiftboated a true American Patriot, Max Cleland, mercilessly. He deserves to rot and roast in Hell for eternity. Bring ‘im on.

Any luck with those Louise Hay CDs?
I’m telling you guys, Panama is where it’s happening. American dollar is the currency. Most everyone speaks English. Beautiful country plus an incredible “pensionado” program. If you have an income of $500. per month, you can get a place there and not pay property taxes for 20 years. You do not have to be retired either.
Panama City is totally metropolitan. Cityscape looks like Manhattan. Wired for cable access, GREAT restaurants, healthcare etc. It is the center of the western hemisphere.
Bought a condo on the 28th floor with a view of the skyline with the ocean beyond, in the heart of the restaurant and shopping district for (hold on) 72K. It should be complete within 6 months.
sleep well, peterr

Taking the bar again…..depends on the state. I believe some have a grandmother clause for those of us whose original exam was written on papyrus…..
Believe it or not, Peterr, that’s what I really think!

And TRex, we respect teh gay, with right to marriage and everything … it’s not even cool to disparage gays in jokes. As a matter of fact, we have the largest Pride parade in the world and tons of straight people show up to voice their support.
Did I mention that we have won one more World Series title than the BoSox? *g*

hell, I passed NY 150 years ago. That’s why I was turned down at DOJ, haw haw.
g’nite neuro. sleep well.
You can never have enough cowbells. Cowbell and cowbells aren’t the same, though. At that speed, the cowbell gets tedious. My band’s percussion box has about four, and they’re different sizes – mostly for the RandB numbers we play like Mustang Sally, Green Onions.
Just back from talking and walking with my son, who’s in the middle of his first week back at his summer job.

I also think cowbells are great at anti-war demonstrations. There were a couple at one I went to in October 2005, and they helped drivers notice our messages more as they went by.

lindsey buckingham was a year behind her. they met, fell in love, formed a band, and the rest – as they say – is rock’n’roll history…
Check the Marquis Towers. I got the 83 sq. meter place, but had it changed from 2 bd/2ba to 1 bd/2ba. Decent sized balconies. Did I say 28th floor? The pool/common area is on the 30th floor and it goes up to 32 floors. 1 car underground garage, lobby has 24 hr. security at entrance, a bar, restaurant and shops. They have property management so if you want to live there part time, they’ll rent it out for you the other part if the year.
The problem with Mexico, TRex, is the infrastructure is so far behind. I can’t be without my computer, and neither can you!
Panamanians are wonderful people (excepting the cab drivers that you have to negotiate with strenuously) and they just voted to double the width and depth of the canal so that larger ships (read Cruise ships) can pass through. It’s a boomer right now…

ya know, Suzanne, the GOP Congress was the rubberstamp congress. Maybe the Dems will listen to the nation about stopping the war if we start ringing cowbells wherever they are. Rubber stamps are silent, but cowbells, as TRex illustrated, are indelible.
You’re welcome NPB. They sure look like they’re living the good life.

ET.. I missed any reply you may have had last thread to the question re Senator Toobz. If he resigns or loses his seat early, would it be up the Gov. or special election that determines his replacement?
ET, you may be onto something there. I would love to hear cowbell dings drowning out the talking points.
rosalind @ 91
Jeez, I grew up a little north of there, went to Cap – how did I miss that?
Jeepers. Can’t sleep, now feel like I’m in a bizarre dream featuring a flashback from my 20’s, what with the big hair Nicks.
oddmommy — Naples FL, always a demand for attorneys for estate stuff. Very warm. Or try the Atlantic side of the state for cooler weather consistently above freezing in the winter. Property values have fallen like a rock over the last 3 years, cannot believe how cheap a 3-bedroom ranch is in areas like Sebastian. Need to do homework on the nightlife, though, varies a lot across the state, along with quality of schools.
Okay, ready to give the bed a try again. ‘Niters, Pups.

bobby weir went to m-a for his freshman year, but his parents yanked him out for private school after that. his high school photo is hilarious. not as hilarious as stevie’s – a boufant flip with bangs.
Suzanne @ 101
Having attended a number of tennis matches featuring Martina Hingis I can tell you that massed cowbells are probably the most annoying
sound on the planet. Every time she won a point her fans would ring their cowbells for all they were worth. Everybody who was not Swiss starting praying that she’d lose. I blame them for this ringing in my ears all these years later.
Eureka Springs,
After then ex-Sen, now ex-Gov Frank Murkowski appointed his daughter – after he had been elected governor, thus vacating the senate seat – Sen. Murkowski’s (the Sen. Murkowski now in the senate) appointment was seen as unseemly. Since then a voters’ initiative has changed the process so in most cases, the voters would choose the replacement. But we’re getting close enough to Stevens’s seat coming up in 17 months, there would be an interim replacement, who could then run as an incumbent. Alaskans would probably elect a Republican in either process.
g’nite rayne

fingers and toes crossed for pleasant dreams for you, rayne
Suzanne @ 122
Me too. And Eureka Springs.
ET, you mentioned upthread that you had a really bad winter. What is a typical Alaska winter like? I’ve been in CA since 63 and have been spoiled by the weather.
Eureka Springs @ 112
Governor Palin was elected by a cross-party populist urge to end the kinds of corruption best represented by big oil’s over-reach here. Both the Dems and GOP have historically been very pro-oil. The only governor to take big oil to the mat and kick big oil in the cajones was Wally Hickel, a fairly conservative Republican.
Palin fought her way to the top of the Alaska political process by subverting a corrupt organization from within, in spite of their many, many attempts to de-rail the movement. The result has made her the most popular governor in the USA. I’m surprised her star isn’t rising faster in GOP nationwide attention. Probably because she’s causing problems for big corporations.
So, is Abu going to possibly be disbarred?

LooHoo, if AGAG is disbarred, does that disqualify him from being able to head DOJ? Does DOJ have a prerequisite that the head be a lawyer in good standing?

I would assume so, Suzanne. If not, we’re in bigger trouble than we know!
I’ll have to do some research, thanks, ET.

Suzanne, was there any discussion of the radio show last night?
The one TRex was on the night before, LooHoo? There was some but not a lot iirc.
That’s it for me tonight, folks. G’nite all.
Well, I’m watching a re-broadcast of Democracy Now! and the segment on Cindy Sheehan. She was interviewed in retirement by Amy Goodman, and repeated her complaint about the “negative energy” in the peace movement now, and how she has been criticized by Democrats of the “Left.”
I want to know who she is talking about, because I want to give them a piece of my mind.
Idiots.

Again watching Cindy Sheehan–

Perchlorate Levels in Food Safe for Most, FDA Says
[snip]
Levels of a chemical used to make rocket fuel found in commonly consumed food are not high enough to pose a health risk to most people, including children and pregnant women, U.S. regulators said.
The Food and Drug Administration, in a preliminary estimate, measured perchlorate levels in 27 food items, including fruits, vegetables, fish and grain products. The agency found that, for most people’s diets, the levels fell below a standard adopted in 2005 by the Environmental Protection Agency.
That standard, based on recommendations from the National Academy of Sciences, deemed as acceptable the consumption of food and drinks containing up to 0.7 micrograms per kilogram of body weight, more than 20 times the amount of perchlorate contamination in food found to be safe under previous standards. The Natural Resources Defense Council, a lobbying group, opposed the increase in the allowable level.

Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s sunny and mild this morning, with a high near 90 forecast for central Jersey. I’ve just been lurking lately: Mr. NJP’s mother had surgery last week to remove a section of her colon, and his father has elevated liver enzymes. We did finally manage to get our salad garden planted over the holiday weekend, which gives us a small feeling of normalcy. Brandywine and cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, arugula, and lots of basil for pesto harvest in September. Potted up lots of herbs for deck: flat-leaf parsley, cilantro, rosemary, Italian oregano, English thyme, more basil, chervil, plus a couple of nasturtiums. The chives are blooming–a good accent in a salad.
I made a big pitcher of iced coffee, so help yourselves. I’m hopping on my bike to go get bagels.

Former Sen Bob Kerrey talking with Scarborough on MSNBC talking about the divisiveness of Washington. Going back to ‘95 to cite his last example of compromise [with Simpson] to get things done. Blames the extremes of dems and rethugs, then says the dreaded “b-word”–bloggers.
Hey, what about the frackin’ talk radio???? Why the persistent refusal to call out the Limpballs and Hannitys and O’Reillys of the universe?
Interesting that the “balkinization” of Congress, as Scarborough calls it, always traces back to right after the Newtster took over Congress.

Give Joe Klein an over-all plus on Scarborough this morning. A reality check about the politicization by Bush of Iraq.
Scarborough defending Bush–every body supported going to war. Hey, Joe. WE WERE LIED TO. Oh, and I didn’t support attacking Iraq. A lot of Americans didn’t support attacking Iraq.
And don’t attack Clinton for epitomizing “moral relativism.” Not when your crowd’s got Newtie and the choirgirl. Or Hot Tub Delay.
And another false choice by Scarborough: John Wayne vs. Jane Fonda epitomizes the era.
Nope, Joe. John Wayne [sunsets in the East] vs. Gregory Peck [Mockingbird].
Do what is right because it is right. And don’t lie to us. You’re entitled to your own opinion, Joe. Not your own “reality.”
