When I was working with Berlin they opened here in L.A. for the Police. Also on the tour were The Thompson Twins and The Fixx.

Too much triggered bass, chorused Strat, and Oberheim OB8 for my taste.

And there’s something a little disconcerting about having your hair and makeup done before a concert if you’re not Madonna or someone in that category.

Oh you know what? It’s late. The files she did not want to get into were ones about hiring or not hiring particular candidates for open positions. She claims she did not keep the notes on people who were rejected. this article touches on one such occasion who was hired anyway.

i believe that suzanne is right. it’s web 2.0 stuff and a bit technical for late night, but basically the button uses special HTML functionality to only download new comments from the web site, which is a much smaller download than the whole page and all the previous comments. That’s one of the reasons each comment has a unique number.

sorry i’m not being clear. what happens is that it is SUPPOSED to get new comments, but doesn’t display them for some reason. when i refresh the whole page they are there.

Also, it has been found that the refresh comments button will start to slow down once threads get into high numbers of comments. That is one of the reasons TRex is now doing a Late Late nite.

BTW, totally off topic, but HuffPo is always looking for comment moderators. With the traffic they get, it’s a big job. Everything goes through moderation over there, until it’s manually released.

BTW, after finally reading thru all the comments here, I have a minor take on the Mac browser & gray bars…
I have clients who also experience this in Entourage and certain types of chart placements from Excel into late versions of Illustrator.
I have been able to replicate the bug, mostly on PowerPC-based laptops like 15.4″ and 17″ PowerBook G4’s. In these cases, I’ve found it to be a rendering bug in the Mac OS, but it usually clears up after disk maintenance and incremental OS update (or re-application on an incremental OS update), like 10.4.4 to 10.4.7, or 9.

2. Cool Job, Steve! We just hired an outstanding young woman to run the art, drama and music support. She’s so well organized, I’ve been thinking they should get her to teach a course sort of like you might have taught at some time – turning all the maintenance tasks and communication skills of running multimedia classes, live plays and concerts, and all that into a course the kids at the school can take and get credit for. Now, they’re just supposed to fulfill so many hours a semester signing up to do those things. Quality suffers. If they got credit and learned it comprehensively, it would change the studio, lab and workshop environments in a good way.

This BBC-screened debate in early May at the Oxford Union in the UK on the Isr**l lobby, is excellent. This is a famous debate series. The student questions almost make my eyes well over in tears. There IS hope.

Body pulled from river identified as missing U.S. soldier

The body of a man dragged from the Euphrates River south of Baghdad has been identified as Pfc. Joseph J. Anzack Jr., one of three U.S. soldiers thought to have been kidnapped earlier this month, the U.S. military said Thursday.

Lt. Col. Josslyn Aberle also said reports of a second body being found along with Anzack’s on Wednesday are “false.”

The fact is that that there was no blockbuster from Ms. Goodling. She came across as extremely credible. She did not provide the needle to provide evidence of criminal wrongdoing which is what is required to pierce Executive Privilege, so the Dems failed to “get” Karl Rove. May Peace and Tranquility now return to Capital Hill.

Somebody is still huffing glue. Amazing what people get paid to do these days — but that’s the nature of the Culture of Corruption.

Let’s review before the glue fumes overcome the rest of us, shall we?

This is what Rep. John Conyers saw on first pass yesterday:

1. In the first five minutes of this hearing, we learned that in Ms. Goodling’s view, Paul McNulty, the Deputy Attorney General, misled the Senate in his testimony about the limited role of the White House, when he personally knew otherwise. We also learned that Mr. McNulty withheld information from the Senate which had the effect of concealing Senator Domenici’s role in the termination of Mr. Iglesias. Ms. Goodling also admitted to taking inappropriate political considerations into account when hiring non-political DOJ employees.

2. Second, in what I believe may have been the bombshell revelation of the hearing, we learned the Attorney General made public statements that Ms. Goodling believed were inaccurate and that he appeared to be engaged in “coaching” witnesses after the fact, in direct contradiction to the Attorney General’s testimony that he had gone out of his way not to speak to any of the fact witnesses. This coaching made Ms. Goodling feel, in her own words “uncomfortable.” This raises the most serious questions to date about the conduct of the Attorney General.

3. Third, we learned the White House was intimately involved in the process of terminating the US Attorneys, from the beginning through final sign off, and Ms. Goodling believes Mr. Rove was involved in the process.

4. Fourth, Ms. Goodling admitted that laws were violated with regard to the consideration of the hiring of career employees at the Department of Justice. By her own terms, she admitted she “crossed the line” with regard to the hiring of Assistant US Attorneys and Immigration Judges.

5. Fifth, we learned that there indeed was a ninth US Attorney on the firing list, Mr. Graves from Missouri. Again, this contradicts the testimony of the Attorney General on this matter.

And this is what another former prosecutor saw yesterday:

The parts of Monica Goodling’s testimony that stood out to me most yesterday: 1) detailing how McNulty misled Congress with “incomplete or inaccurate” testimony on 2/6/07 that was “not fully candid” and 2) her admission to her part in politicizing the hiring of career folks at the Justice Department.

And emptywheel is only just starting to dig into the mix, noting that Sara Taylor, um, Harriet Miers may have appointed Tim Griffin (which is not a legal appointment), and Monica was likely soliciting defense funds with her testimony yesterday.

Let’s crack open the windows and air this place out; obviously somebody’s already killed brain cells if they didn’t take special note of the parts of Goodling’s testimony where she “credibly” admitted to a criminal act (and the Republicans cheered her actions).

When you reread the testimony, she only looked at political affiliations of career people (as opposed to political appointees) when they applied for both positions as many applicants do…

People — especially LAWYERS like Goodling — do not plead the Fifth or ask for immunity because they feel like it.

Her testimony yesterday clearly indicated she violated the Hatch Act.

Sorry I didn’t respond earlier; hope you see this. Re. the sourwood honey……..it truly is delicious. Only problem (as you would imagine) is it’s a wee tad hard for the beekeepers to know exactly which blossoms the little suckers have been dining on. As I understand it, they have to rely on taste and (since sourwood tends to be more expensive) some might be less than honest in their labeling. With the rate the honey bees are dying off, who knows how long it’s gonna be available, regardless of price. :-(

Went out for the usual dead tree and got waylaid eating snow peas straight out of the garden.
