Breaking up is hard to do.
And as for Cameo, wow. Come for the truly great 80's R&B. But stay for the really, really bad fashion.
But really, weren't the 80's just one long wardrobe malfunction?

Breaking up is hard to do.
And as for Cameo, wow. Come for the truly great 80's R&B. But stay for the really, really bad fashion.
But really, weren't the 80's just one long wardrobe malfunction?
Zed!!!
woohooo!!!!
triple?
Home run!!!
Now, you have to go downstairs and tell everyone we’re here. That’s the rule.
Cute!
But really, weren’t the 80’s just one long wardrobe malfunction?
Like I told you the other night, I was thrilled when I heard U2:
Thank God for guitars!
I wonder who dumped whom?
“My ex got a six-figure severance package, and all I got was this lousy five-figure raise.”
Hey, on that note, I did a show with Flock of Seagulls once. Really nice guys, even the one with the HAIR.
I bet she dumped him now that he is unemployed (or will be in June).
Why didn’t the repubs notice or comment on him STILL BEING MARRIED? Isn’t adultery still on their top 10 list?
Joe Klein’s conscience @ 7
She dumped him, mortified at the embarrassment he brought her.

He is married as in let no man put asunder.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 14
Perhaps now. Certainly not for long.

He just didn;t want to have to go to Michelle’s concentration camps with his radical Muslim GF.

Very nice!
One long wardrobe malfunction *and* one long republican-dominated nighmare.
Re the last thread: Jane is straight? I mean, I was hoping against hope :-)
Poor Shaha – who will she turn to in her time of need? Isn’t she working for one of the Cheney daughters?

Yes indeed. And don’t forget about hairstyle malfunctions, if that’s an acceptable parallel phrase.
SteveAudio @ 7
no kidding. one more Simple Minds bass ‘n synth song and my head would have exploded.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 37
AK, what’s shAKin?
Wiki says that Paulie separated in 2001 and may have divorced in 2002, but his marital status is “uncertain”. Seems to me that certainty is a part of public record somewhere…if no one can find it, maybe he is still separated but not divorced….?
Paulie Shore is obnoxious.

And they weren’t even the worst.
When I was working with Berlin they opened here in L.A. for the Police. Also on the tour were The Thompson Twins and The Fixx.
Too much triggered bass, chorused Strat, and Oberheim OB8 for my taste.
And there’s something a little disconcerting about having your hair and makeup done before a concert if you’re not Madonna or someone in that category.
TRex @ 44
welcome back TRex. in your case, just smile at him. real big.

Hey all, ok, just going for a full cannonball into the lake…
I loved the Pretenders, The Boss, and yay, a free Talking Heads concert at Sproul Hall, UC Berkeley! woo-hoo! Wardrobe flashback: fushia pink cotton blazer and the feathered hair.
I came here again because I had KO Interruptus during his special comment for which I had specifically waited up for and then my kids turned off the TV, after hearing him rant! Argh!
Anyway, I also traipsed over to TruthOut and while remembering the deer-in-the-headlights-look on MG’s face when asked about files, I saw this in the WaPo article they cite:

Never quite understood why people listened to that stuff in the 80s, when they could have been listening to Los Lobos, X, the Blasters, the Plimsouls, the Motels, Lone Justice, Oingo Boingo, Wall of Voodoo, etc., etc (can you tell I spent the early 80s going to school in LA?).
Suzanne @ 94
Not sure. Perhaps she only handed over copies of her opening statement?
Oh you know what? It’s late. The files she did not want to get into were ones about hiring or not hiring particular candidates for open positions. She claims she did not keep the notes on people who were rejected. this article touches on one such occasion who was hired anyway.
OT.

i believe that suzanne is right. it’s web 2.0 stuff and a bit technical for late night, but basically the button uses special HTML functionality to only download new comments from the web site, which is a much smaller download than the whole page and all the previous comments. That’s one of the reasons each comment has a unique number.

thot so. overall, great page design too. i’m going to steal ideas from it! :)
Suzanne @ 169
How or where do you see 2 refresh buttons?
SteveA, I believe you would not have that happen since you are on a Mac. I believe that is a PC thing. I could be wrong tho. Going from memory here.

Just an occasional stubborn blurp *shrugs*
Suzanne @ 172

Is anyone having a problem with the refresh comments button or is this just a discussion?
Suzanne @ 175
just a discussion for me. the only odd behavior i get on a regular basis is that when i refresh, i don’t get “no new comments” nor do it get the new comments. i just get the countdown button. i refresh the whole page and its fine. i’m on winxp service pack 2 and (for my sins) IE7.

That’s a built in feature to make one wait 15 seconds before pushing the button again will work.
Mac OS 10.4.9
Firefox 2.0.0.3
Always works just fine.
Suzanne @ 180
For me, I get eiter “No New Comments”, or the new comments, plus the countdown in the Refresh box.
I’m pretty sure that’s optimum.
Suzanne @ 180
sorry i’m not being clear. what happens is that it is SUPPOSED to get new comments, but doesn’t display them for some reason. when i refresh the whole page they are there.
Also, it has been found that the refresh comments button will start to slow down once threads get into high numbers of comments. That is one of the reasons TRex is now doing a Late Late nite.
BTW, totally off topic, but HuffPo is always looking for comment moderators. With the traffic they get, it’s a big job. Everything goes through moderation over there, until it’s manually released.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 176
that and just added Adobe CS2 RAM
CS2 would prefer a Mac Daddy ; )
AK, then it could be telling you to clear your cache. IE7 has all kinda funky stuff (from what I’ve heard – Firefox user myself).

I do it for free, since I don’t spend much time doing it, and since Arianna has always been so great to me, giving me, and several other L.A. based bloggers front page privileges. But there is a small honorarium for most of the comment mods, I understand.
AK, there are some glitches that occasionally happen when a thread gets up into high numbers. Mac users sometimes get a gray box that obscures some of the comments. Some PC users have the refresh comments button hang or will get two refresh comments buttons. The tech crew has been trying to identify the cause.

yep.
those MAC-PC commercials are a hoot.
Gates went after em, but couldn’t pull the plug.
don’t know whether ta laff or cry –
SteveAudio @ 218
So easy, so smooth…
Here’s one example:
When you want to remove an app from the Mac, you drag the folder with the app to the trash, then empty trash.
lol, w3rd. And many apps install by draging to the harddrive.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 224
Don’t wait, you’ll be glad.
A PC, even with XP is still like a car where you have to check the oil and turn the crank to start it.
A Mac is like getting into a modern car, with electric windows and automatic transmission.
Not a great metaphor…
When I was younger, with computers and all electronics, I was about the process…that’s the PC.
Now, I want to start the car and drive, get things done…that’s the Mac.
tw3k @ 227
lol, w3rd. And many apps install by draging to the harddrive.
Yep! How slick is that?!?!
Alfred Kelgarries @ 223
and if you want you can run most window managers. e17 is nice :)
SteveAudio @ 228
Yep! How slick is that?!?!
Totally! Plus you get the cli so you can custom compile foss software. best of both worlds :)
bah, getting my blockquotes out of order, lol.
I’ve been using Macs almost since they came out – switched from my Commodore in 1989. I’ve had less breakdowns in 18 years with all my macs – our family now has seven active and three in reserve – than I’ve sometimes had in 18 days on the Windows PCs at the music labs and other work stations I’ve had to deal with at my job.
blogwhoring because it’s late:
I got over 10k hits today for my piece about spawn of Satan Deryk Schlessinger’s naughty MySpace page.
My friend John Amato gave me a link, which helped a lot.

Ed*ard Teller @ 233
Indeed! I concur.
Ed*ard Teller @ 233
By the way, what job?
Best interview with Sibel Edmonds I’ve ever watched. She’s a total Anti-Monica G…
SteveAudio @ 236
I teach music in college in Anchorage, Eagle River and Palmer, at 3 UAA campuses. But I’m phasing myself out.
SteveAudio @ 233

Ed*ard Teller @ 236

Ed*ard Teller @ 238
Very cool.
I taught in the music department at Long Beach City College from ‘87-’95 (Sound Reinforcement & Studio Maintenance).
And now I teach at UCLA extension, studio maintenance again.
good night, all.

SteveAudio-
Gold stars to those who wade into the fetid swamp to write critically of the Schlez. She’s a stain on the culture. Bravo.
BTW, after finally reading thru all the comments here, I have a minor take on the Mac browser & gray bars…
I have clients who also experience this in Entourage and certain types of chart placements from Excel into late versions of Illustrator.
I have been able to replicate the bug, mostly on PowerPC-based laptops like 15.4″ and 17″ PowerBook G4’s. In these cases, I’ve found it to be a rendering bug in the Mac OS, but it usually clears up after disk maintenance and incremental OS update (or re-application on an incremental OS update), like 10.4.4 to 10.4.7, or 9.
nite steve
SteveAudio,
1. So Derek is the guy they were trying to identify after he slugged somebody at a political event, he’s the guy with the sleazy Islamaphobic web page, he loves Humboldt County herb, AND he’s Dr. Laura’s son? I did not know that, and it is really funny and even more stupid. Is this story getting traction?
2. Cool Job, Steve! We just hired an outstanding young woman to run the art, drama and music support. She’s so well organized, I’ve been thinking they should get her to teach a course sort of like you might have taught at some time – turning all the maintenance tasks and communication skills of running multimedia classes, live plays and concerts, and all that into a course the kids at the school can take and get credit for. Now, they’re just supposed to fulfill so many hours a semester signing up to do those things. Quality suffers. If they got credit and learned it comprehensively, it would change the studio, lab and workshop environments in a good way.
newtonusr & Ed*ard Teller:
Thanks, interesting stuff.
We all definitely need to stay in touch.
Thanks, guys.
This BBC-screened debate in early May at the Oxford Union in the UK on the Isr**l lobby, is excellent. This is a famous debate series. The student questions almost make my eyes well over in tears. There IS hope.
i’ll check it. that last one is amazing.
tw3k @ 249
Yeah. Ms. Edmonds is so passionate, so beautiful and pretty damn honest. Her story should have had traction at least three times since it started. Paging Rep. Waxman….
Looks like the nite crew closed shop early. [unlatches screen door]
Marion -
Didn’t you mention biscuits early late nite? Hope that offer’s still on; I brought some sourwood honey.
twolf –
Did you see the note I left for you at the bottom of one of yesterday’s threads?
Ed*ard Teller @ 249
yeah, i’d like to hear what Edmonds has to say. A true believer in the constitution.
the bbc debate was interesting and i would agree that the debate here in the states is from the pov of israel.
Good morning, pups. Coffee and tea are ready. Hi, Waccamaw, the biscuits just came out of the oven, hot and flaky. Help yourself, and try some of our local honey too. I’ve got some in my tea and it’s delicious.
Today it’s Dr. Gawande on rethinking nursing homes and Mr. Kristof is in China.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
Waccamaw, may I try a dollop of your sourwood honey? I don’t think I’ve ever had any.
Mornin’ all!
Body pulled from river identified as missing U.S. soldier
Lt. Col. Josslyn Aberle also said reports of a second body being found along with Anzack’s on Wednesday are “false.”
Waccamaw – Just saw your note. The key is to set your clock ahead 5 minutes. Then you get the jump on everyone else because you are operating in the future (insert futuristic music here).
;)
‘That Strikes at the Core’
Monica Goodling concedes that a political line was crossed in hiring at the Justice Department.
Good morning pups!
Yo, Marion, twolf, egregious…how’s your Thursday starting?
Yeesh, some video TRex pulled for L2N. Like the Ferrari parked in front of the church. Sure.
twolf1 @ 257
The fact is that that there was no blockbuster from Ms. Goodling. She came across as extremely credible. She did not provide the needle to provide evidence of criminal wrongdoing which is what is required to pierce Executive Privilege, so the Dems failed to “get” Karl Rove. May Peace and Tranquility now return to Capital Hill.
Rayne @ 259
Good morning, Rayne, can’t speak for them but it’s a Vivaldi concerto here. Howzit there?
egregious @ 258
good morning, ‘gregie!
Somebody is still huffing glue. Amazing what people get paid to do these days — but that’s the nature of the Culture of Corruption.
Let’s review before the glue fumes overcome the rest of us, shall we?
This is what Rep. John Conyers saw on first pass yesterday:
And this is what another former prosecutor saw yesterday:
And emptywheel is only just starting to dig into the mix, noting that Sara Taylor, um, Harriet Miers may have appointed Tim Griffin (which is not a legal appointment), and Monica was likely soliciting defense funds with her testimony yesterday.
Let’s crack open the windows and air this place out; obviously somebody’s already killed brain cells if they didn’t take special note of the parts of Goodling’s testimony where she “credibly” admitted to a criminal act (and the Republicans cheered her actions).
Turkey Waste Will Power Electric Plant…
But she didn’t mean to! Blink blink!
Rayne @263: All of the allegations named in your post are proof that shocking of shocks! Politics are done at the White House. There’s gambling at that there casino, Mildred!…As to admissions of criminal acts…if they did occur, they were immunized, so Ms. Goodling is free to go about her business and hopefully a lucrative legal and political career.
Morning gang. Fresh thread and pass the coffee…
Christy has a teeny tiny question upstairs.
Shorter Monica:
Disarray, Disarray, AG who cant determine what improper is and then lies to congress about it. Illegally considered party affiliation in some doj jobs, has barron harkonnen for a lawyer..
MSNBC talking excitedly this morning about JokeLine’s new article about how much better things are in Anbar Province (citing unidentified sources), then following immediately thereafter with report of U.S deaths and car bombs today in – yep – Anbar Province. They’re backing off the JokeLine article as the morning proceeds.
Way to go, Joe.
Kiran fondling the sociology student/sex worker’s flimsy fripperies sent me from CNN to MSNBC this morning. Where lo and behold, Jim Cramer’s trying out as host–he’s giving it his best shot, but really, really bad. And supported by former Imus’ sidekicks Charles McCord and Chris Carlin.
A pale shadow. Imus was the linchpin, and I miss Imus.
And boyoboy did KO nail it last night in Special Comment. But he can’t singlehandedly take on all the rest of MSM.
Shocking shocks!! Who would ever have thought that asking questions about one’s political affiliation before hiring them for a career position (NOT a political appointment) would be ILLEGAL!!!
Put down the glue and step away. Seriously. You are going to do yourself some permanent damage to your brain cells, and you don’t have many to spare.
Rayne @ 272
When you reread the testimony, she only looked at political affiliations of career people (as opposed to political appointees) when they applied for both positions as many applicants do…
Really. The glue stench is annoying. Open the window.
People — especially LAWYERS like Goodling — do not plead the Fifth or ask for immunity because they feel like it.
They plead the Fifth and they ask for immunity because THEY KNOW THEY COMMITTED A CRIME.
Her testimony yesterday clearly indicated she violated the Hatch Act.
You sure do have those talking points down. You can tell your minders we noticed. But seriously, enough with the brain damage.
Hi, Marion -
Sorry I didn’t respond earlier; hope you see this. Re. the sourwood honey……..it truly is delicious. Only problem (as you would imagine) is it’s a wee tad hard for the beekeepers to know exactly which blossoms the little suckers have been dining on. As I understand it, they have to rely on taste and (since sourwood tends to be more expensive) some might be less than honest in their labeling. With the rate the honey bees are dying off, who knows how long it’s gonna be available, regardless of price. :-(
Went out for the usual dead tree and got waylaid eating snow peas straight out of the garden.
