The Unitary (Vice) Presidency. I think it’s great that Waxman and Conyers and Leahy and Schumer are attempting to hold BushCo to the fire but they won’t take the necessary leap, so they’re a bit like terriers nipping around a larger animal. The leap? Inherent Contempt. I guess I want some action. I want to see a confrontation where things get decided spectacularly. All this waiting around leaves me impatient. Impeachment, of course, another possibility. But while the power is there for Inherent Contempt, the votes are not there for Impeachment. I can think of nothing finer than to see members of BushCo marched out of their offices in shackles by the Capitol police,

I’m impatient for impeachment because without it future Congresses will be impotent.

Jane, color me astonished that you are colored flabbergasted. Okay, I know you were kidding, but… this is exactly what Cheney has been leading up to for the past six years. According to his theory of the Constitution, he and Bush are at this very moment omnipotent dictators of essentially the whole world, but in particular of the U.S. and its protectorates and possessions and embassies and war zones and, of course, Guantanamo and outer space and the oceans out to N hundreds of miles, where N = whatever Cheney says it is.

My reading of the Constitution says that the VP breaks ties in the Senate and replaces the president if he’s no longer able to serve.

So the only other power the guy has is what the president delegates to him. In this, he’s like anybody else who works for the president. And nothing more.

Maybe there’s some additional body of law I’m not seeing here, but it seems to me that with an additional 50 cents to buy a pitcher at a yard sale, Shooter could find a nice place for that warm spit this argument is worth.

I was just with my 80 year old blue collar/teamster WWII Vet father. He said he would vote for Hillary in a heartbeat. This is coming from an Archie Bunker kind of guy. He said he really likes how smart she is! When an old salt of the earth type like him likes Hillary that is saying a great deal

Yeah! My dad, too! My father is 87, WW2 vet, blue-collar farmer type and he told me in 2003 he vote for her if she ever ran. He’s been voting Republican since he was able to vote; got disgusted in 2000 with Bush and switched to voting Democratic. He’s REALLY pissed now with this ‘illegal shit’ going on in Iraq.

This is my favorite scandal, too, because Cheney must be impeached or otherwise removed from office before we can impeach Bush. Unless, of course, we can impeach both of them at once. Which is not out of the question, since they’re joined at the hip in a number of high crimes and misdemeanors.

President Bush himself said that revealing Plame’s identity could be illegal conduct and a firing offense, he told Bates.

So why doesn’t the press remember when he said that? Why doesn’t anyone re-play that? At least 500x a day

OT. Anybody have an opinion on the Lisa Myers,MSNBC, story on Dragon Skin body armor versus Interceptor body armor. Looks to me like another scandal about to break.

It’s not really news. Soldiers and some in the public knew about this when they were first being sent over there and took their own Dragon armor.

The military eventually told them if they kept using the Dragon armor and were killed they’d lose their death benefit (insurance).

In short, somebody is probably getting kickbacks for guaranteeing the worse armor is used (and people die for it).

Great question.

First, the Repubs won’t dare let Bush be convicted. That would let his replacement be an automatic nominee for ‘08 and they’d lose big time.

Second, it would disgrace them (Senate Rs) all and within their party they’d be crushed.

No, they have to tough it out and hang onto the shreds of their party and it’s gonna be ugly for them.

Dems could Impeach perhaps, but never get the conviction, so it’s wasted effort which would make them look ridiculous to the public.

Dems should just crush the entire Repub party with Bush standing on-deck as the ship goes down with him saying, “I’m in charge here.”

So, to that end, kicking Abu Gonzales out on his keister is a great step in the right direction. He’s been disgraced already, so the Impeachment is a natural follow-through. It would also help us restore some real Law and Order to this administration.

If we have to go down the list and replace each and every one of Bush’s people, one by one, then it’s worth it. Tenet is gone. Wolfowitz is gone. Rumsfeld is sorta gone and Gonzales could be next and then who knows after that. Boiled Rice anyone?
