What is it with the celebrity press corps and their crushes on Republican males with decent grooming habits? A Democratic male candidate who has his hair styled at any level above that of Fred Flintstone's gets mocked, yet before the spittle's finished leaving their lips, the mockers then whip around and fall on their knees in front of dandyish GOPers. Mitt Romney's one example, and now we have Minnesota's own Randy Demmer, a Republican in the Minnesota House, a guy who doesn't even have national office yet, getting the Adonis-on-the-half-shell treatment from the fawning kneepadders at the Washington Post.
The national GOP sees this Mitt Romney wannabee as the white knight who will knock off rookie and rising star Democrat Tim Walz (aka The Hardest Working Man in Show Business Congress) in Minnesota's First Congressional District. Dream on, big boys -- that seat is Walz's for as long as he wants it. When Tim Walz said he'd be there for us, he meant it.
Besides, as Ollie Ox over at A Bluestem Prairie has noticed and the ComPost's hagiographers didn't, there's less to Mr. Demmer than meets the eye. Lots less. Think Dan Quayle or George W. Bush less. We're talking stupid and lazy, in addition to mean. Which is of course why the NRCC sees him as prime material. (Oh, and did we mention that he's a hypocritical flip-flopper where taxes are concerned? Spotty at The Cucking Stool sure did!)
For a nice something to take the taste of Demmer out of your mouth, go slide on over to Norwegianity and watch a true Son of Norway do his thing. (Yeah, he's from Iowa originally, but don't let that stop you.)

PW!!! Sorry lolo!!!
Hehehe! I decided I’d let you RSSers have the zed.
By the way: The web gurus figured out what the problem with the graphics was, so from now on they should be copacetic (unless we go over 250 pixels in width).
“Nope, sorry, the Republican Party only supports candidates for public who are some combination of stupid, corrupt, or morally degenerate.”
RSS? I’ve never been able to get it to work… :(
PW, you never mince your words!!! You call a ‘Spade’ a ‘Spade’!!! Do you ever think the Repugs will finally clue in!!! It’s not a pretty face the voters want, its results!!! At least on the Left!!!
kirk murphy @ 6
as a reader or a syndicater? if the former, i might be able to help; i’ve configured lots of rss feeds here at work for the cubicle drones…
EvilDrPuma @ 5
Prerequisites??? LOL ;)
Phoenix Woman @ 4
Very hard-working bunch. Thank them for me.
solai @ 10
Thanks, O Web Gurus!
CTuttle @ 9
You gotta have standards.
What is UP with the Repubs obsession with hair???!!! Creepy Weirdos. Just a bunch of nerds getting off on themselves. Ick.
They might as well just take a stick and stick a greasy grey wig on it and try to elect it. Freaks.
here’s an EVIL little tidbit…

we can’t get this admin out of office soon enough…
CTuttle @ 7
So you will be voting for Kucinich too? ;)
EvilDrPuma @ 12
You’re positively Evil!!! ;P!!!
Hi Phoenix Woman!
Congratulations CT
CTuttle @ 16
I like to think of it as truth in advertising.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 8
Alfred, that’s so kind of you!
I’d be grateful.
If it’s relevant, I’m using Firefox on Mac OS X….
Thanks again!
How is it the GOP consistently gets away with labeling the MSM as “liberal”? When what the mainstream media is, at the core, are corporations. I don’t know of many corporate liberals.
Eureka Springs @ 15
If He should make it on the ticket, I wouldn’t hesitate to pull the lever! However, during the Primary, there are more ‘attractive’ Dem’s out there!!! *g*
EvilDrPuma @ 18
And that’s the whole truth, and nothing but…!!!
kirk murphy @ 19
vienna is a nice rss reader.
Alfred Kelgarries @ 14
GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!
“The persecution of Commander Diaz is of a piece with the cashiering of Commander Swift and Major Mori, the absurd accusations brought against Gitmo defense counsel, the whispering campaign against them with the detainees (in which counsel are labeled by military jailors as “Jews,” “Zionists” and “homosexuals”), and the efforts by Deputy Assistant Secretary Cully Stimson’s efforts to separate the Gitmo lawyers from their clients. All of this conduct is disgraceful and embarrassing. It reflects the values of a totalitarian state and not a democracy that values justice. It brings shame on the military and the nation. And it reminds us how our current crisis in the administration of justice does not stop with Alberto Gonzales and the Justice Department.”
OT
Just got an e-mail from John Laesch. He’s running again in the IL 14th against Denny the Fat Hastert. He’s gearing up for the campaign and looking for help.
Many of us met him at last summer’s YearlyKos. He’s a good guy and seems to be right on the issues we care about.
GO JOHN!!!
Alfred Kelgarries @ 14
I’m going back under the bed
kirk murphy @ 19
darn, clicking on your name tag doesn’t get me a mailto thingie. the instructions are a tad too complex to post as a comment, can you send me your email at “my name” “at sign” and gee mail dot communist and i’ll forward the instructions for acquiring and using rss in firefox (i have them stashed on a disk somewhere, and i can always rewrite them from scratch if i have to…)
kirk murphy @ 19
Kirk,
I use Newsfire. It cost a few bucks, ($20) but well worth it!
Check it out.
One of the best features is its own search function of the feeds that you have listed.

Shiteous Fuckery!
The repugs know that 2009 will be the year of HDTV and are looking for a HDTV ready candidate.
Hey! I like his comb over. Jeesh.
Hey, y’all know what “caging” is?
No, I’m not talking about Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo. I’m talking about voting.
Find out more from Greg Palast, RFK, Jr., and David Iglesias.
Bob in HI
BTW, the footage of the soldiers searching for the missing 3 soldiers, looks nothing like the terrain where they were originally attacked.
It’s KO Time!
Lead story is McNulty.
Bob Schacht @ 32
i’ll see your caging and raise you robocalls from the DOJ (not!):

this is setting the bar below slime level…
unfortunately i have to go buy groceries. :(:( will be back in about a half hour. don’t anybody leave, or i’ll pout and make my whining snarfly noise…:)
GSD @ 29
PLANET of the APES!
That was so stunning! I’ll never forget as that scene panned out and your mind comes in focus and you then realize where they are. We were kids and we were suitably astonished.
Sorta OT. Caught the tail end of Tweety while waiting for KO to start. The Redubyacan woman (Hillary beat her last year?) was truly one for the ages. She said, with a STRAIGHT face, that whatever problems people perceive as being with this admin, that of COURSE the folks running can fix them. That both Romney and Ghouli have been executives who did MARVELOUS things with NYC and MA. They are SO STRONG and able to deal with terror if that’s the problem or with the execution of the war in Irag if that’s the problem.
I want her drugs.
LS@24, The bar has been lowered so much, an ant can crawl over it!!! It is going to take years to undo the machinations of this Maladministration!!! It is obscene what havoc has been wrought, I mean, pick an Agency and/or Department, anyone, and glaring abuses and rot pervade within!!!
lolo @ 31
And for more Shiteous Fuckery, try this: The courts rule that Bush has to at least pretend to do something about air quality, so he’s gonna do it, by golly, and we need it done by no later than - wait for it - 2008.
What will he do? Consider this directive:
I read that as, I’m going to run out the clock and let the Democrats deal with it. But I, of course, am a highly cynical DFH.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 20
Because most reporters are stupid. And gutless.
And the GOP are counting on that trend to continue.
Phule @ 43
Corrected. My bad.
How fucked up are the Democrats that Karl Rove can accuse them of voter fraud?
CTuttle @ 40
I think it has come to the point that Bush or Rove or Cheney take out a stick, point it accuse and say “LIMBO”, “How Low Can You Go”..
OT and out of the loop, but does Comey testify tomorrow? When? Where?
Everythingseemssoneat @ 45
Fixed.
Mutant Poodle: “The courts rule that Bush has to at least pretend to do something about air quality, so he’s gonna do it, by golly, and we need it done by no later than - wait for it - 2008.”
Can’t they just get him to take a breathalyzer? That ought to do it!
LS @ 46
I believe the old France had a novel solution to this problem.
Kill everyone at the top and start over.

Phule @ 50
UP the Revolution!
twolf1 @ 50
That’s a good one!!
Phule @ 47
Thank you. I’d stepped away from the tubes for a moment to tend to supper.
Phule-That’s cute.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 20
but, but, but what about Ben and Jerry?
The thing about Demmer is he’s yet another one of the Minnesota GOP’s efforts to replicate the relative success of Norm Coleman and Smilin’ Tim Pawlenty by going on a Pretty Boy Hunt. Mark Kennedy was the Pretty Boy of the early Oughts, but while he could eke out wins against the noble-but-weak candidate Patty Wetterling in the conservative Sixth District, he was way too conservative to win a statewide election, so he got waxed last year when he tried to run for Mark Dayton’s open Senate seat; Amy Klobuchar beat him going away.
Loo Hoo @ 58
Ben and Jerry are gay, they don’t count. /sarcasm
Everythingseemssoneat @ 56
Can’t say the same for the original.
LS @ 52
Next time don’t bury your head.
RevDeb @ 25
Wonderful, RevDeb. Will he be a YK2? Does Howie know him?
LS @ 46
Considering, they all are Slime, it might take a micrometer to measure the lowest bar level!!!
Oklahoma kiddo @ 20
I actually think it’s less about ideology than bureaucracy, which abhors change and criticism. There’s very little that’s liberal about an organization that has figured out how to manage in a particular environment when someone comes along and wants to change that environment…
Bill does campaign ad for Hill:
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/feature/wjc/?sc=8
Everythingseemssoneat @ 57
Acute case of snarkism actually.
PW, I suspect it’s some kind of institutional stereotype-Republicans are supposed to look like Mr. Potter in “It’s a Wonderful Life” or Mr.Burns in “The Simpsons”, so a decently-groomed, non-George Romero-character Republican is a novelty. Likewise, a Democrat is supposed to be a scruffy, limited-means Man-or-Woman-of-the-People with more passion than experience, and more rhetoric than wisdom, so an attractive, professionally successful and articulately powerful candidate like Edwards comes in for scorn. Also, there is a Fear Factor: the media is afraid of the Republicans, but not the Democrats.
twolf1 @ 51
This is standing out!
from that link
Loo Hoo @ 61
Howie definately knows him. John came by the Lake a couple of times. YK2, I don’t know. I would imagine he will be there.
World Bank concludes that Wolfowitz broke rules:

Get it.

I think the Repubs represent the Revenge of the Dorks!
Fixed.
Loo Hoo @ 71
He won’t leave. He doesn’t obey no stinkin’ rules.
Loo Hoo @ 71
And Cheney the Dick says this is why he’s a fine upstanding Conservative who must stay on.
I’d like to see more of this:
Conservative blog declares ‘war’ on GOP ‘perverts, louts, criminals’
Threadwise: Willard (Mitt) Romney worships a con man, John Smith.
Put a fork in him…along with the GOP nimrods that don’t believe in evolution.
Is McNulty kinda cute, or am I kinda drunk?
Phule @ 75
…the maximum security cellblock.
I love Mad Libs.
Lou Costello @ 77
But give those evolution-deniers credit. They do practice what they preach! Disproving evolution through personal examples, one Darwin at a time.
Wil @ 78
You are drunk.
Sleep it off.
Phule- It would be like O.J. Simpson suing the Goldmans for murder.
Phule @ 81
Damn, I’ll be single for ever at this rate
Bush is meeting with the Fundie yahoos to push for war with Iran.
Cheney is beating the war drums on aircraft carriers off the coast of Iran.
Now Drudge is running a large red screaming headline about Iran’s “massive” enrichment program.
It’s not looking good.
-GSD
Fuck - went back to the picture, I must be really drunk. My apologies
Everythingseemssoneat @ 82
Shhh! Don’t give him any ideas….
Come to testify on Wednesday, the 23rd, with all of your pertinent papers.
Maybe.
Did you bring the documents we requested?
No.
Okay, then we’re really getting mad. Get those papers here by Tuesday, the 4thd or else.
Maybe.
Okay, then you are in contempt of Congress.
Maybe.
Okay, then resign.
No.
Okay, then you are under arrest!!!
No.
What do you mean NO. You are under arrest!!
No. Come and get me!!
No.
Why not?
Because.
Because what?
Because.

It comes with the territory. From the hetero side (and apologies for the vestigial sexism here) but like the song says, “And the girls all get prettier at closin’ time. They all begin to look like movie stars…”
Wil @ 85
friends don’t let friends comment drunk. need a friend :D
SO, when Karl Rove looks hot I have acute ETOH poisoning, right?
Oh by the way, just to be fair when ever referring to candidates we should use their full names.
Willard Mitt Romney. Now who did I hear this from? Barak Hussein Obama.
When talking about Willard Mitt Romney’s hair just to be fair we need to use a phrase from about 40 years ago and hair care for women. “Which Twin has the Toni?” should work. Willard “The Toni Twin” Romney. I learned this from John “The Breck Girl” Edwards.
Oh and when talking about John “Weather Vain” McCain be sure to spell The Vane part of weather vane as “vain” so you get an extra joke in there.
I learned that from John “Flip Flop” Kerry.
And be sure to use these phrases EVERY time you refer to these candidates. And when you spot a good phrase that refers to them like WeatherVain McCain be sure that the Fox News people also use them so that the can prove that they are fair and balanced. Any example of him changing his position will get a weathervain McCain shout out.
And when you are talking about John “Weathervain” McCain you might want to ask just how “bad” was his time in the Hanoi Hilton. Maybe you could wear a shower cap from the Hawaiian Hilton. to question how bad his Hilton really was, (if it was in fact bad at all). He did get meals, correct? Did he have access to a bible? Ever? Was he allowed to pray? You bet. I’ll bet he prayed all the time. I’m guessing he even said his prayers out loud. And nobody stopped him. And I’ll bet he had red-cross packages with chocolate in them from time to time.. Someone should really check. I’m guessing that it was really not that bad. I think that like the prisons in Gitmo, McCain’s time might not be as bad as he wants us to think.
And I think that it’s not the press’ job to vett any info we find out about his cushy time the
HanoiHilton Hotel located in beautiful downtown Hanoi and the “kitty cat cage” (which his followers call a tiger cage just to sound scary. No tigers were in it with him, ever. Disagree? Prove it. Prove to me that he EVER was in a tiger cage with real tiger. If he had been he would be dead.I learned these processes and methods from the people who made the purple heart bandages that they worn at the Republican convention.
And if you hear any more juicy stories about about Willard Mitt Romney, WeatherVane McCain or Rudy, “Lock up the Guns!” Giuliani, let me know. I’ll pass the info to assignment editor Matt Drudge.
Wil @ 93
That would be LSD.
Wil @ 93
No, that case means you have taken a bad hit of LSD and should report to your local hospital immediately. :P
LS @ 95
Beat me to it by *that* much.
Steppin back a thread: Death squad activity up 40 percent in a month.
Hey if the US doesn’t count car bombs deaths…
Phule @ 97
That was funny!!
Wil @ 85
Wil: please don’t drive tonight :)
Be well
…and good luck on the quest.
…..sigh…
myself, I’m on the way to being the male version of “spinster with cats”.
And I’m living in San Francisco.
And I’m straight.
This is so not encouraging
Oh well - I’m not driving tonight.
Is the bar open?
FYI, New thread
Lou Costello @ 98
And the Iraqi government doesn’t allow reporters to count anything else….
Pretty soon, Iraq will be able to claim they have successfully conquered death. Because nobody is ever reported dead….
The thing about Republicans is that they are all homosexual perverts (and I don’t mean to offend any homosexuals or perverts here), they just live in denial. That’s why they all aim for that Rock Hudson/Tab Hunter look. It’s also why they get so upset about gay people coming out, because it arouses them and, that, in turn, upsets them. They get mad about gay marraige because if they’re wife found out they were gay, they’d get spanked. That’s also why it’s always Republicans who are caught in gay scandals. It’s all in the hair. Remember, the ones who shout the loudest about how gay people suck, are the ones that are the most gay, and by that I mean, homosexual.
You’ll notice that the pedophiles in the Catholic Church wear their hair in an entirely different way.
spocko @ 94
On a similar note, I’ve been thinking, every time monica is named Regent University should also be named in order to increase google ranking of said institution.
LS @ 55
Yes it is! Bet ‘ol Berto wishes he had gone to the reunion!
Loo Hoo @ 88
Basically, it doesn’t require an extension, much of the corruption is ongoing, hence, the clock hasn’t even started yet!!! My superhero, Waxman, particularily, has his finger on the pulse,(err, foot on the throat) I don’t think he’ll let the patient expire!!!
Thanks for the round-up on Demmer posts in the MN prog blogosphere.
Your image of the Washington press corps on their knees soaking up Demmer’s every word was still fresh when the Rochester (MN) Post Bulletin offered a contrasting picture of Representative Walz on one bended knee, listening to his constituents’ concerns in a Southern Minnesota grocery store on a Saturday morning.
Looks to me that Walz gets the dynamics of his job and should keep it, no matter how pretty people in Washington DC think Demmer is. Pretty vacant.
Jane, I hope you are doing well. Re: MSM fixation on hair, the best recent smackdown of the MSM I know of targeted the talking heads of TV (”In effect, they are a criminal class” at http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh032607.shtml So good in fact I had to add The Daily Howler to my favorites list.
Hey, gang! All hands on deck! Report to Siun’s new thread on the double!

Georgesimian @ 103
Wouldn’t spanking be an incentive?
Loo Hoo writes, “Bet ‘ol Berto wishes he had gone to the reunion!”
Actually, he did go. I saw a story about a student protest…kids in Guantanamo jumpsuits…while Gonzales and the class were having a group picture made on the school steps. Afterward, Alberto and his handlers left “abruptly” via a back entrance of the building.
tw3k @ 104
Not just Regent University, but “fourth-tier Regent University,” I think.
Also, this brings me back to the won’t-let-it-die-cause-I-think-it-fits-too-well drumbeat of labeling the last six years worth of corruption “bushie-gate.” (either lower or upper case.) It fits the one who’s so bent on a legacy; it fits his loyal followers; it’s the umbrella that covers all power-greed moves of this administration.
bushie-gate! bushie-gate! bushie-, bushie-, bushie-gate!
I’m confident it will catch on . . . some day.
