I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this (a few too many comments to check for sure) but on second look at the billboard image there’s more than outrage that seems “faux” about the ‘defacing.’ When is something defaced by using multiple coordinated eye catching colors and both the mouth and eyes are left clearly visible? There’s more of a makeup quality to the ’smearing’ than any sort of defacing. And it’s not as if staged ops like this have never been seen or heard from the con community. “In fact,” “there’s no doubt” that self smearing with grandiose outraged finger pointing is an old con practice and one used years ago by “The Karl” himself.

I wouldnt mind seeing someone do the same to the “Stop Hillary Now” billboard that Hannity and 750 WSB has up on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, GA. It would be ok with me if someone pelts Sean’s face with some paing.

We can’t win such a war. If things go absolutely wrong, which is still a distinct possibility, in ten or so years the perpetrator or alleged perpetrator of this will be put in a cell without a number..

If I were a Rovian or neocon I would be praying for a severe economic crisis. Get a lot of people angry, desperate, willing to think about raising the black flag. Then finally the enemy at home would be clear. A dream come true.

I realise that with over 550 comments already up that this probaby isn’t going to be read by many, but do you think we could stop using Star Trek and science fiction references as a hammer to belittle peope? I’m a fan of SF, many of my friends are readers, writers, and editors in the field, and it’s becoming a ittle tiresome to have their work and interests treated as if it were soleley the province of right-wing adolescents. I realise that some wingnuts have tried to adopt a few programs as their own, but their enthusiasm is often based on a misreading of the material. Star Trek Deep Space Nine in particular was a drama that explored a wide range of moral issues, go ahead and rip the righties for not understanding what they’re watching, but the implications that science fiction is only worth the attention of nerds, geeks, and wingnuts is getting old.
