TiredFed — no, it’s pretty obvious on the face of it this was a delegation to White House handmaidens, but there’s still something weird about the delegation that I can’t put my finger on yet. I’ve worked in a corporate legal and finance department, handled delegations of authority and the subsequent audit questions that came each year; this just doesn’t look like a delegation I would want to touch in front of an auditor, without even doing too much digging into the background. It smells.

We’ve been here before. Gonzales is getting Libby’d. Takes the bullet for Karl Rove and the White House. If you wondered why the Republican jackals like the sinister Senator Specter piled on Gonzales — it’s because they were told to.

These guys learned from Richard Nixon. In 1973, when Nixon was getting hammered over Watergate, he threw the Senate Committee his Attorney General, a schmuck named Richard Kleindienst. Famously, Nixon’s own Rove, a devious creep named John Erlichman, told Nixon to leave the Attorney General, “twisting slowly in the wind.”

Specter does nothing that he hasn’t been told to do. He’s a made man, that how they work.

At what point does Congress realize that the only way to take down bullies like Bush and Rove is with strength? Gonzo’s defiance should be met with impeachment.

In re: the delegation of authority — I’ve read and re-read this document and the memo attached, and there’s something just not right about it, putting aside the absurdity of handing over all hiring authority to Karl’s Mini-Me.

I can’t put my finger on it yet; Lederman covers a lot of the turf, but doesn’t assuage my nagging sense there is something more in that document we are missing.

could your nagging sense have something to do with the fact that delegations of authority are typically used to shift work to another decisionmaker? in this case, Sampson and Delilah were obviously not the deciders and Gonozo surely could not have delegated authority to Rove. seems to me a funny way to use delegations, but I think it makes some sense given that Rove wanted total control over DOJ.
