After a busy travel-day and a nearly-missed connection in Chicago, I have arrived safe and sound at the gracious estate of Kobe Matisse Rose, Esq. His Eminence has given me a tour of the grounds and the stables, shown me where the shooting irons for skeet and hunting are kept, handed my trunk and personal effects over to the servants, and we'll be dressing for dinner shortly. Tomorrow night, we're having a grand masked ball.
So excited to be here.
Other than the fact that I've arrived and I'm terribly glad to see Kobe and his personal assistant Jane (such a lovely girl!), that's about all I've got tonight.

What kind of fuckery is this?!?!
shucks, heh
TRex!
Kobe! Don’t chew on Trex’s tail! You don’t know what he has dragged it through!
Hiya TRex!
TRex!! Kobe!!
AZ Matt @ 6
Kobe says, “But it tastes just like chicken!”
Not to be nosy (OK I’m lying) but is Kobe’s house currently in the DC area or New England?
Woof, woof !!!
“Representative government and trial by jury are the heart and lungs of liberty. Without them, we have no other fortification against being ridden like horses, fleeced like sheep, worked like cattle, and fed and clothed like swine and hounds.” – John Adams

Connecticut. But he is moving to DC in July, I hear.
Evening all. Seems like some mighty fine fuckery (tastes like chicken) going on in the lake tonight.
Sorry I didn’t have the brain power to churn out a real post, gang. I’m pooped.
‘Evening, T-Rex, from sunny FL, where hurricane season seems to be starting earlier and earlier!
Thank heavens global warming is a myth.
Good evening everyone.
Fuck Bush
California.
Phase II at last! Well we’re getting closer!

Nice to know Kobe’s getting good mileage out of that dinner jacket.
TRex @ 15
That’s okay.

FREE-FOR-ALL!!!!
Heya TRex! *waves*
I’ll be in Chicago tommorrow morning via train for AnimeCentral this weekend. After this i doubt i’d be able to afford Y2K. Ah well. I can still hang out here with the Firepups.
Glad your trip when well. ^_^
TRex @ 15
I stole 90% of my post today from the lake and anothe 8% from the dictionary. :)
I just know that Trex and Kobe want to know how manly the Prez was today:
It just so inspires one doesn’t it!!
Hi TRex. Glad you arrived safely. Isn’t it great there? I wish I was with you all.
TRex @ 13
Cool! Although as a Balitmoron I gotta warn Kobe that DC in July is not exactly cool.
RonD @ 16
And by “myth,” we mean “Start bailing, Chuckles!”
Still chasing that bullhorn moment. Pathetic.
SnarKassandra,#22 so all of 2% was original? You’re a born musician.
SnarKassandra @ 22
Well, at least that is more creative than many of my students.
SnarKassandra @ 22
That’s flattery, not theft.
brownandserve @ 25
Compared to D.C. in August, it is.
AZ Matt @ 23
Inspires me to hope that he slips with that thing.
Hello Jane and TRex! Got pie?
EvilDrPuma @ 30
That’s what I always say when I do it.
Woof!
Trex…is the Queen invited?
DrDick @ 29
I don’t know how it’s going for you, but there’s a noticeably bimodal distribution emerging for my Celtic Archaeology term papers…
Jeralyn @ 24
Jeralyn!!
Have you been enjoying All THe Gonzo’s Men & Women? Since it has been playing so well on You Tube maybe they will make it to a feature length film.
Kathleen @ 36
She wishes.
TRex @ 13
And will his girlservant, Jane, pack up the house for him?
Glad you arrived safely, TRex. Travel’s a bitch, ain’t it? Especially going through Chicago. One time I had to fly from here in DC out to O’Hare, and then on to England. Never understood why that happens.
Glad you made it TRex… Now don’t spend all your time chasing those cute CT blog boys.
If you see Chris Shays…don’t look in his eyes.
Jeralyn @ 24
Oh, Jeralyn! I wish you could be here, too. We’d have so much to talk about!
EvilDrPuma @ 37
Probably not enough of your students hangout in Irish Pubs. It does make one nostalgic for the Ol’ Sod.
EvilDrPuma @ 20

Sangemon @ 17
Very simple.
Very easy.
Quite eloquent. Thank you!
EvilDrPuma @ 37
Actually the term papers, which I graded last week, were pretty good in my race and ethnicity class (who have been really good all semester), but largely indifferent in my peoples of the Columbian Plateau (the interior northwest) class. The papers from my graduate seminar in ethnohistorical methods were definitely a mixed lot, but some really good ones. So far only graded the tests for race and ethnicity (which account for 1/2 of the total) and they did really well (class average of 89).
AZ Matt @ 44
There’s really not much that I’d call an Irish pub in Iowa City. There’s places that pretend to be Irish, but it’s only skin deep.
LoudounLib @ 41
Both times i went ot england? i flew out of Toronto. I only lived about 4 hours away from there by shuttle in michigan, i was so close to ontario. i’m glad i did. O’Hare is insane! There’s reasons why i prefer going by train to Chicago. Union station isn’t quite so bloody well crazy.
My heart belongs to Spazeboy.
And you, ES.
dang… I owe Cassie a coke…)
EvilDrPuma @ 48
Yes, but it is still not as white bread as Missoula (the whitest place I have ever been).
Jeralyn @ 25
Jeralyn! Welcome! Any chance of a cross-post to help out poor TRex when his creative juices aren’t flowing?
DrDick @ 47
Sounds better than average, taken all in all. In all deference to the students, I should note that the low-scoring peak on these papers is a lot smaller than the high-scoring peak. But I am seeing some rush-job work, and I can only polish the turds so much.
aliasofwestgate @ 49
I’ll get myself up to NYC and fly out of there in the future, if I can’t get direct flights from Dulles. No more O’Hare!
I don’t know, EDP#26…tornadoes in Iowa, hurricanes in FL-I’d have to seriously think that over.
DrDick @ 52
No, Iowa City is about as cosmopolitan as the midwest gets. We’ve got some decent Indian and Thai places, for example. I just don’t understand why a good Chinese place can’t stay open in this town.
EvilDrPuma @ 30

So, Kobe’s been nominated for the Nobel Prize in, uh, uh? I suppose if he made the sign himself, literature would be a possibility.
DrDick @ 52
I have only passed through on the way to the Flathead Reservation. Beautiful country you live in. And you have Tester as a Senator. I am stuck with McCain and Kyl.
Ed*ard Teller @ 61
That was from last year. I don’t know if he was nominated again or not.
LoudounLib @ 42
Yeah, and for reason whenever I travel cross-country I tend to get routed through Dallas… need to change that somehow since that’s where shrub’s going to take up residence after his term ends (not to mention the whole library thing). I may be tempted to vandalize something there…
Dallas… need to change that somehow since that’s where shrub’s going to take up residence after his term ends

Is there any likelihood of any honesty remaining in the redacted version?
‘Evening Suzanne!
Suzanne @ 66
Hi Suzanne.
Blub@64:
Change airlines, amigo. If you’re going through DFW, you must be on American. Going cross country on United, you’ll end up changing in either O’Hare or Denver, both of which are much nicer than DFW.
Hi Jane!
Hello, Suza
nne
Gnome de Plume @ 65
That’s an open question.. will any of them be able to travel abroad? Ever? Well, other than to Saudi Arabia, Dubai, China, two newly acquired colonial dependencies (only if flack jackets are worn) and the sundry members of the coalition of the willing, that is.
I will be sending Kobe’s assistant off to bed, soon. She needs proper rest.
Hi, Jane. I would not suggest serving chicken to TRex while he is up there. He is still kinda touchy about that report.
EvilDrPuma @ 38
Finished reading and grading 170 term papers and concert reports last week. Always a couple of good ones, always a few cheaters. The best, on a new composition by John Luther Adams, called Dark Wave, was written by a USAF Master Sergeant who is about to go back to Iraq for his third tour. He saw so much in the piece – about his past and his future – that I was floored. He allowed me to copy it to send to the composer.
Excellent dive, Suzanne. Crowd went wild. All 8s and 8.5s, except for a 7 from the Bulgarian judge.
EvilDrPuma @ 58
There are a few decent restaurants in town, but nothing ethnic. Mostly you are talking chain dreck. Good thing I’m a pretty good cook.
Hi Jane! Kobe’s got such a great face. What a cutie.
TRex @ 9
Ya never know when an oddball comment can make someone’s day. Thanks TRex.

That dang Bulgarian is still pissed that I would not cuff him.
I sat next to a very handsome Marine on the plane today. He was on leave between Persian Gulf tours.
I decided that the decent thing to do was to refrain from talking politics. He probably didn’t want to hear it, and I didn’t want to risk offending him.
AZ Matt @ 62
I have only passed through on the way to the Flathead Reservation. Beautiful country you live in. And you have Tester as a Senator. I am stuck with McCain and Kyl.
Yeah, but Rehberg (R-Braindead) is our congress critter and our other Senator is Max “Roll Me Again” Baucus. Just be glad you do not live in Oklahoma (Inhoffe & Coburn).
Evening all.
Being rather ignorant of US geography, I ask. Why would you travel from Georgia to Connecticut via Chicago?
Re Bush and his manliness demonstration- Did he threaten any of the media posse with his chain saw?
You are having a rough time in the US with the weather at the moment, tornadoes, floods and out of season weather. We could sure use the rain here in SE Queensland. Our dams are below 25% capacity. Haven;t had any decent rain for about 7 years.
Helen @ 85
If he’d stop running and just let me taser him I could go to sleep so yeah, he is.

There are all those remarks about if you die and go to the alternate (warm) destination on Delta, you get a four hour layover in Atlanta.
I’d like see someone set up a Mid-Atlantic Politicians’ Travel Fund: it would buy them tickets halfway across the Atlantic.
Hi everyone. I need a recharge from the lake. Trying to sell a house has been consuming my time. I miss the brains and snark of the folks here.
Kathleen @ 92
That one is kind of a pot/kettle distraction. Putin’s doing a pretty good job recreating the same in his own country.. and he has a good inventory of polonium too
I’m convinced that at the end of the Niger-documents quest lies an indictment for someone who needs one:

Hahahahah
Oh now I’ve scared my little dog! lol
It was worth it.
SnarKassandra @ 94
Um, yeah TRex. You do not have to talk politics with him. Talk about S.E.X. Or maybe, talk about the fact that Paris is going to jail. Either one.
Hi Debbie(aussie)#90, in FL where I live, 6 of the last 7 years have been drought years, with the one exception being the most hurricanes in US history.
AH Feeeel Yoah Payeeen. Right now our whole state is having wildfires.
If I did flirt, it was only in the most subtle and non-line-crossing way. He was a very, very nice man. I was on my best behavior.
Suzanne, what does CUFF HIM mean?
KM, Fog is supposed to return tomorrow(?).
Selling a house sucks big time. I’m selling mine too, TJ.
LS @ 85
Wow, LS. I trust The Nation.
TRex @ 107
What fun is that?
DrDick @ 110
I love flirting.
Bringin this up from the previous thread because I think this is fucking mucho important.
A Majority of Iraqs legislature has voted to tell the US to GET THE PHUQUE OUT.
I would hope that everyone here reads this tonight because this shit needs to be tossed into the fan ASAP. Why?
MSM is silent and the story is 2 days old.
SnarKassandra @ 112
Just watch who you flirt with. But, yeah, it is definitely great fun.
There was one non-stop from Atlanta to Hartford, but it left at 7:00am. Given that the airport is an hour and a half from my house, that flight was out of the question. So, I got my lay-over in Chicago, but since the plane from Atlanta was late, I had to sprint through the airport to make my connection.
SnarKassandra @108:
I don’t care how mature and cool you are — you don’t need to know. At least not yet. And if you do find out, please don’t tell my 13-year-old son. He’s got way too much imagination as it is.
SK, it is a reference to my past employment in law enforcement (now retired). A common response from males who found out what I did for work was to ask me to either cuff them or strip search them, executed by the male with a suggestive leer on his face.
ET,
Thank you for sharing about your student. You must be real proud!

WATCH YOUR ZIGS, PEOPLE!
All hail our lord and master Kobe!
Suzanne @ 117
At which point you shot them, of course.
TRex @ 119
Yessir! (Snaps to attention and looks sheepishly at the ground)
EDP, never fired my weapon anywhere other than on the range.
Thanks for commiserating, Suzanne.

Hillary is a flaming liberal in warmongers clothing according to Pat Toomey!
http://article.nationalreview……k2NjQ2N2I=
TRex @ 118
Does that mean you cleaned it up instead of Suzanne?
I think I have forgotten how to flirt :(. I can still remember being 16(SK I’m guessing)and I loved to flirt too.
Re 113. Very little chance of a political solution then. (ha!)
EvilDrPuma @ 121
Nah. I’m betting on the taser. Much more fun to watch them squirm and you can do it over and over.
Debbie(aussie) @ 126
15.
It is my fault about the zigs, TRex. After you went to bed, I complemented the late nite crowd about how they did not break a single margin all thread long.
I fear I jinxed Late Nite.
Kathleen @ 125
Pat Toomey has all the wit and elocution of a rotten gourd.
Suzanne #117, the nice officer shot my brother with pepper spray when he said that to her, and laughed while doing it.
As did the rest of us.
Suzanne – could you send the leftover fog south for a week or so? We could use a little more humididity, just to slow down the next fire. (The current one is being sat on mightily; the east edge was down to just smoldering this afternoon. They think it was started by some #$%^&* who tossed a cigarette.) Less than three inches of rain in the last ten months is … not good. Starting May with a Santa Ana is just icing on the cake.
EvilDrPuma @ 131
What do you have against rotten gourds?
Margot @ 93
i loved astro boy as a kid … didn’t watch that much tv, but that show was my fav
It was! I never saw the original Atomo(Astroboy) anime. But i DID see the 80s version when Canada’s Global station would play it in the saturday morning lineup. I didn’t like to miss an ep. It was a rare serial in what was considered a children’s show. One of many things that corrupted me inevitably to the genre in general.
P J Evans @ 132
Come get our humidity. More thunder storms and flooding in Central Texas
Wigwam @ 103
Wigwam, your conviction is appealing.
DrDick @ 134
A rotten gourd murdered my father.
(Just kidding, Dad!)

I think I had a thing for Aquaboy with his oxygum for breathing underwater.

Thanks for the explanation TRex. Yous go where you have to I guess. Do you pay more or less for this zigzag travel.
aliasofwestgate @ 50
Hi Trex! One time on Christmas Eve I got stranded during a blizzard at O’Hare. It was already a zoo. They’d de-ice the plane, we’d go get in line for take-off, then by the time it was our turn we needed to be de-iced again. Defy logic. Repeat. Defy logic. Repeat.
Sorry, Your not Yous
Jane Fonda on Colbert. OMG.
Suzanne @ 117
This is why we should mind her zig requests. She still might have an itchy trigger finger
Kathleen @ 146
Now that is a delightful thought that makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over. Oh, wait, that’s the cat.
SnarKassandra @ 137
I wish I could. It might improve both areas! Keep your weather alarm on, and the route to the storm cellar clear. (I saw yesterday morning’s radar map. It looked like a good day to avoid Oklahoma.)
P J Evans @ 153
Yeah. Unfortunately, that is where my son and his family live.
RonD @ 74
Hi Ron!
Debbie(aussie) @ 90
Nearly all the major airlines operate hub-and-spoke systems of flights, so unless both ends of your trip are major cities, you go through somewhere else. (Nothing in Connecticut is a major city.) Also, that “somewhere else” has to be far enough from both ends that there will be people who want to fly on each segment, which is why you probably can’t get a flight from Atlanta to Hartford by way of New York, for example, even though New York is a major hub. (Direct flights may exist, but you usually have to either pay more or go at an inconvenient time when not as many people want to travel.)
Chicago is a major hub for many airlines, because it can connect east-west flights, and it’s not too far out of the way for east-coast trips like TRex’s.
P J Evans @ 152
We don’t have a cellar.
SnarKassandra @ 137
But remember, global warming is a liberal scare tactic.
RonD @ 150
YEP – she’s tryin’ to screw him. Right on TV. In front of you and me.
RonD @ 149

He is quite certain he will beat out Sean Hannity for the Nobel Prize this year.
Oh yeah, Kathleen! That was the best thing I heard all day!
DrDick @ 140
More (heat) energy in the interior of this vast continent will be very ugly.
More heat = mega-tornado.
More often.
Severe drought; huge storms. What’s not to like?
SnarKassandra @ 157
Then your cousin has some digging to do, doesn’t he?
The thunder and lightening seems to have missed us. It is raining, but not too hard. The bad stuff looks to be south of San Antonio.
I think you are one of the people I flattered today. Or maybe it was just Christy’s posts. If you think I took too much I can change it.
lee5,
I saw the old 60s cartoon as a kid. Is that what you saw? The sound was very cool, very different than any other cartoon.
Alias,
I thought there was something familiar about the cartoons my kids liked (Sailor Moon, etc), and I finally remembered Astro Boy!
EvilDrPuma @ 157
what about global raining?
EvilDrPuma @ 163
yep!
SnarKassandra @ 168
That really is a myth.
Redshift @ 156
Chicago is a major hub for many airlines, because it can connect east-west flights, and it’s not too far out of the way for east-coast trips like TRex’s.
It is or was the busiest commercial airport in the world. Try living there sometime (I did for 12 years). On the other hand, you could always get cheap flights going anywhere. Here in Missoula, the rule is “you can’t get there from here” (at least without two layovers) and will pay an arm and a leg for the privilege.
Redshift, thankyou heaps, makes sense.
Jane Fonda is one of the few people who truly holds her own against Stephen Colbert.
Katie is a shameless hussy. She just climbed into TRex’s lap.
Really. Just get a room.
EvilDrPuma @ 164
Yep.
Frank Probst @ 173
I wondered if she was holding Stephen’s…
Okay, gang. I’m beat. I am going to start getting ready for bed.
Good night, everyone!
See you tomorrow.
g’nite, big guy. sleep well
Jane Hamsher @ 174
I think she’s going to quickly run into two snags with this seduction.
Cripes, I finally get here and TRex goes to bed early. Bummer.
TRex @ 177
Nite, TRex. Sleep well and don’t let the puppy dogs bite that magnificent chicken flavored tail.
Night, Trex, Jane and Kobe (et al).
Jane Hamsher @ 174
ROFL – and TRex is saying – “Oh, my get off” or “Welcome, friend”
TRex @ 176
Bye Mr Giant Therapod!
She has a bed big enought??? Wow!
Jane, looks like TRex is taking your suggestion about the room.
I’m just saying…
Jane Fonda was so funny on Colbert. Don’t think I’ve seen him flustered like that before. :)
(My husband just said, “She owned that interview!”)
Jane #155, as one who loves the site and deeply appreciates all you do for the movement, THANK YOU, and I’m sorry you had to put up with those who seem to feel they can just come into your house (site) and be rude. Thanks again.
Folks have probably all ready read this one.
Is Condi smoking the gun?

Margot @ 167
There was an 80s version. *goes digging through websites* This
is the version i saw on tv. I didn’t hear about the original 60s version until i was in my 20s. *grins* But the 80s version? Was one of and still is one of my favorites. I have yet to see the latest making of it, which was released in 2003. There was a huge celebration about it in Tokyo and a few other places. It’s that beloved to japan.
Renee in Ohio @ 186
He was just as flustered the last time. She just kept kissing him. FABULOUS.
Kathleen @ 188
I’m not sure what she is smoking, but I would give it a pass. I think it is worse than the brown acid.
TRex @ 119
Roger, Jane wouldn’t Taser you would she??? Suzanne, now, probably wouldn’t hesitate!!! *g*
DrDick @ 89
I have only passed through on the way to the Flathead Reservation. Beautiful country you live in. And you have Tester as a Senator. I am stuck with McCain and Kyl.

This is getting almost kinky enough for the Repugs.
That is half the reason I hang out here at night. ;)
TRex @ 177

SnarKassandra @ 196
I’m telling.
Oh, just when it’s getting good ……..
Bon Nuit!
SnarKassandra @ 196
Yeah, I hear Texas still has the abstinence only sex ed classes. Good way to keep the teenage pregnancy rate in the top ten nationally.
nice de-zigging, SK.

Um, Betsy? Is there a Betsy in the house?
EvilDrPuma @ 197
They know!

Not that Bush didn’t make the effort.
SnarKassandra @ 199

Good night, SnarKassandra. To you and yours, the best of all tomorrows.
Nite TRex. Nite SK.
Zigs zags tasers. I think I need a cigarette and I don’t even smoke!
EvilDrPuma @ 204
Ta-Ta, My Dear!!!
I wish there were more kids like SK.
EvilDrPuma @ 209
Tell me about it. I grew up in Oklahoma and they had a stranglehold on much of the state even then. They did not even legalize liquor by the drink until I left 20 years ago. Of course they also kept prohibition going until 1956.
SnarKassandra @ 196
But TRex is old enough to be Kobe’s great-ancestor!
TJ @ 214
Don’t we all. It does give you hope for the future.
DrDick @ 215
Sounds hideous, and I’m not even much of a drinker.
TJ @ 214
Yeah – I told her that I wish when I was her age (a thousand yrs ago) that I was half as smart as she.
Yup, Dr Dick. Little prop too!
EvilDrPuma @ 218
The best part is that in “saving us from sin” they opened the door to a general takeover by the mafia. The whole damn state is divided up between St. Louis, KC, and New Orleans. They were using Tulsa as a major heroine staging area in the early 70s.
Is Trex asleep? Who’s gonna do Late Late night?
Helen @ 222
Hmmmm. Anybody we know got the keys to daddy’s liquor cabinet?
Debbie(aussie) @ 89
Nonstop flights are more expensive, even when shorter. Each airline has a hub (e.g., Chicago, Denver, Dallas-Ft Worth, Atlanta), and tries to route as many flights through it as possible.
What time is the hearing?
DrDick @ 223
DD, shame on you, if the cat’s away, the mice will play…. ;)
I’ll settle for ibuprofen instead of liquor, lol. I’m getting old.
Apologies if it’s been discussed here, I just arrived from a long day with a friend who is in the hospital. I was wondering, does anybody have a list of the “Gang of Eleven” Republican members of Congress who met with Bush and told him he couldn’t have his war anymore?
CTuttle @ 226
Suzanne has the keys, no?
TJ @ 214
Hear! Hear!
Sweet dreams Cassie.
neurophius @ 228
There is a link towards the end of the last thread if that helps.
P J Evans @ 133
Which fire are you referring to, Griffith Park or Featherly?
Alias,
The 80s version is the one I have in a dvd set. That was a very dear present from my older son. I can watch one a day for a very long time.;)
It really makes you think what horrors they went through during the war, when you read about the creator’s view that robots (in Astro Boy) represented what is good, and humans often represented the not-so-good.

A lot of their shows still play with that type of thing. Atomo is also a blatent view on what happened to them because of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It scarred the psyche of the culture so heavily that it echoes throughout their pop culture. It’s an odd thing, but i’ve observed it again and again as a visual echo.
Meanwhile, they make an amazing amount of stuff that makes you think. They aren’t afraid of geeks there, and treasure intelligence. *grins* it’s the only genre(outside of american science fiction) where a geek is as powerful as the superhero, or sometimes IS the superhero as much as the ordinary people. Without being stereotypical. They have their own stereotypes. But you’re as likely to find a cool guy or girl in glasses as you are to find a nerdy comedic relief chracter.
(Stargate: Atlantis is my other favorite thing, but that’s cause hey. the geeks are badass!)

I adored that one. Geekery on top of geekery, as much as Ghost in the Shell in its entirety is. Lain played games with your head that i found fascinating. You’d never find that over here in animated form–EVER. I had it all on VHS. I still want the DVD boxed set, but haven’t had the money to get it cheaply, as it’s not a big seller.

Wasn’t Condi supposed to be at congress tomorrow also?
solai @ 300Wasn’t Condi supposed to be at congress tomorrow also?
“Supposed to be” is the operative phrase here. Condi seems to think subpoenas are beneath her.
My favorite is this: Saiyuki
I’ve seen all of the variations of it and i’m one of the experts on the antagonist that everyone else thinks is your typical ‘mad scientist’.
The whole thing is chock full of heretics, anti-heroes and generally people that would give the Shrub admin more trouble than they could handle. Even the antagonist could eat Darth Cheney for lunch. He’s THAT scary when it comes to his drive, obsession and ability to do things. He gets away with it–this admin is plain stupid. *evil grin*
I say antagonist because both sides? Are pretty much anti heroes in every possible definition of the word. The Buddhist Monk leader? had to be badgered into going west. Otherwise? Screw it.
Neuro #293, that’s kind of a judgement call, I hate to say. If it seems plausible that he might not have known, then doesn’t count. (I always err on the side of caution).
Texas Betsy @ 290
Isn’t the point of a drinking game to make people drink? What you’re suggesting surely won’t work.
EvilDrPuma @ 301
“Supposed to be” is the operative phrase here. Condi seems to think subpoenas are beneath her.
I think Ms. Condi has a pathological fear of what you might call an “accountability moment.”
TB, if the game is a shot every time Abu gives a direct answer to a question that includes the truth and no spin, then I think it will be safe for you to play.
Ain’t no way in hell that Abu is gonna go up there and answer questions with the truth. That little man doesn’t know what the truth is.

http://balkin.blogspot.com/200…..rrows.html
Lolo,
do you get any ocean breeze at your place in Los Al? We are dyin’ inland. It’s not supposed to be in the upper 90s in May, for cryin’ out loud.
Helen @ 308
I think it’s the Comey questioners again.

Texas Betsy @ 314
Hi TB is it raining in Texas?
burnspbesq @ 315
burnspbesq @ 315
Beautiful!
aliasofwestgate @ 282
Agreed wholeheartedly. I had the good fortune to be frequenting Cal-Animage Alpha at the time (UC Berkeley’s anime club), and went along to their weekly showings every time. When the first ep of SEL was shown, the credits rolled, and there was just a pause of amazement, before applause.
Of course, for a good anime mindtrip, Satoshi Kon has a few things to say – Paranoia Agent, for one (sometimes showing on Cartoon Network), and more recently, Paprika, which I’ve no hesitation in recommending to anyone with cinematic interests. (You can find the trailer over here)
I think it’s time for bed. Be excellent to each other.
See y’all in an hour or so. Going to go watch CSI: New York. John McEnroe is the guest star. This should be a hoot.

Thank you Betsy – I can use me some of that!
Helen @ 336

I’m a longtime fan of Satoshi Kon. I’ve been wanting to see Paprika for some time. Paranoia Agent is amazing, as are his movies. Tokyo Godfathers is probably one of my all time favorite Christmas movies nowadays. Surrealism, wit and an amazingly cute and well told story in a strange way.
Most of the time though, he’s one of my favorite masters of suspense and ways to make you go HUH? at one of the scenes that just flicker by on the screen.
Helen @ 333
Or better yet, let’s have Mrs. G make a cameo appearance to do a “Mrs. Alito Moment” when the mean Senators start beating up on her husband!

Yes I have a breeze now. My upstairs windows are on the west/north walls so I get an ocean breeze at night. I am about 3 miles inland but nothing between me and the ocean. The Naval Weapons Base is one street over and runs all the way to the ocean. It is so hot and dry feels like the desert. It’s really nice right now. I bet it is really hot inland.

How long is the hearing scheduled to last?
Texas Betsy @ 362
I think the answer is : get up at dawn, get the coffee going and start searching the cspan schedule. Tune into FDL and get your first dose of snark for the day.
I suppose since I’ve been blogging on this tainted pet food crisis every time I see a dog or cat I want to ask, “Have you checked the pet food recall lists to ensure your pet is not eating something that was recalled? There have been new recalls every week.” (I recommend my friends lists at my friend Kim’s place, http://www.petfoodtracker.com (best easy to read printable list) and Theresa http://www.petsitUSA.com (lists of some pet safe foods –at least for now)
But what really Grinds my Gears is that the FDA won’t name the names of the producers of these Safest. Chickens. Ever.
Or where they are going. In KFC? My Chicken Noodle soup? My kid’s chicken salad sandwich? My baby’s Gerber chicken puree?
If it’s safe, why NOT tell us who owns the chickens and who they are selling them to?
I’m guessing we need at least a 30 percent spike in human acute renal failure to put real pressure on the Chinese to stop. (The CDC has been alerted and is waiting for the spike. Then they will act.)
I was wrong about how much some humans care about dead pets. The ones who care don’t work on Wall Street. Wall Street hasn’t noticed, so it’s not real.
Over 4,000 dead pets, and we finally got a partial ban 7 weeks later. How many humans will have to die? 4,000 canaries and maybe 40 miners will need to die until the feds do something that might upset the Chinese.
China owns our debt and we want to sell them stuff. I’m sure that there are lots of calm voices saying, “Let’s not be hasty about blocking food from China….”

You have my sympathy. I’m hoping for mild temps and above average rainfall this summer. NWS is giving even odds on any outcome. We haven’t had a really bad fire season (yeah, we have an official fire season July-August) here in western Montana for about three year and I do not relish another one anytime soon. 2000 & 2004 were like living in hell on earth. Felt like I was back to smoking 2 packs a day.

It hasn’t smeeled like this since the riots in ‘94.
Griffith Park is a wonderful place. It’s a shocking oasis of green in a terribly paved-over city. For those who don’t know, it has quite a history. The core of the park – over 3000 acres – was donated to the city by Col. Griffith J. Griffith, as well as the funds to build the Observatory.

China apparently doesn’t inspect or regulate food products for EXPORTS since under WTO rules that’s the responsibility of the importing country.. However, shrub has effectively discontinued meaningful inspection or regulation of food IMPORTS since he wants to kill us all or whatever. Hence, unsafe food.
This being said, CNN said late last night that state officials in Sandong (sp?) province in China have apparently arrested sr execs at two food companies and shut down the companies as part of a fraud investigation (for not labeling the melamine in the food).. maybe they sold the stuff domestically too. They’ve also cashiered the national food inspection head for taking bribes or something…
Haven’t heard any shrub announcements on cashiering anyone at FDA or arresting anyone on this side of the Pacific…. or even restoring FDA’s authority to pre-shrub levels. I’ll keep holding my breath.

CTuttle @ 332
Are you referring back earlier to my reference to our PDH blog here in Hawaii, or to something else?
If the PDH blog, look for the word “comments” at the end of each post, and click on it. When a new page opens up, scroll down to the bottom, where there should be a window where you can write your comment.
You can contact me at bobschacht AT infomagic DOT net for further details on how to post comments.

CTuttle @ 450
I gots the mad skillz.
Suzanne @ 443
Oh wait – am I cursing – or am I zigging? What is the problm?
Actually, I think Suzanne did some clean-up. Thanks and sorry, dear. I couldn’t resist.
You guys really do not want to piss off the backstage crew. I’m just saying…
Helen, that was in reference to your earlier margin buster that you offered penance on.
The zig, it is duly immortalised.

I read somewhere earlier today (LA Times, maybe?) that the owner of the factory bulldozed the sucker in order to keep the FDA from inspecting it.
Remind me again why we like inexpensive goods from China.
OK-fatigue poisons building up almost to the point of being recreational. To bed for me-goodnite, everyone. You are the best.
Salud!
Still here cause none of you handed me a towel when the broken margins splashed the lake all over the place!
Fine, I will go to sleep soaking wet.
If I catch cold, all of you can just feel guilty.
Bob@451, that was exactly what I was referring to! Mahalo, I’m tuttlehilo AT MSN Dot Com!!! I’ll try the scrolling down!!!

Night RonD
Porsupah @ 457
I am moved and humbled. That should go on the FDL FAQ page.
‘Night, Betsy.
Suzanne @ 457
Thank you Suzanne
Texas Betsy @ 460
Friction helps.
I have so much to apologize for.
Betsy?-here you go-big fluffy towel, fresh from the dryer.
Texas Betsy @ 460
All mine were in the dryer, oops!!!
Handing TB a towel, sorry. I was responding to your email.
RonD @ 467
Thanks! Sleep well y’all!
Texas Betsy @ 470
Ditto, Ma’am!!!
Suzanne @ 469
Not to mention putting out the fire backstage when the tech crew saw the busted margins (looking at Patrick 4/4).
Suzanne @ 472
Feeling a sudden tightening (not to say “shriveling”) of certain extremities...
Night night Texas Betsy
Speaking of which, let me say that I have so far convinced the majority of the tech crew NOT to pull the quote this comment feature for the rest of the night. Their initial response was to pull that feature every night when Late Nite posts.
Don’t make me regret convincing them of that, folks. It is a feature not used at most blogs simply because of the problems it causes.
Just got here, Suzanne – sounds like the pups have been pounding on the mod(s) tonight, but, except for this, you’ve cleaned up after’em.
You deserve a raise, girl!
BTW, that’s quite a home you’re departing. Hope you found/find equivalent digs elsewhere.
Suzanne @ 475
Suzanne – once or twice – my quote has been underlined (with all the other quotes.) Who does that? I thought the mods. NO?
This seems almost quaint and old-fashioned: a task force of career lawyers from Main Justice and career prosecutors from the Southern District of Florida has broken up a particularly virulent Medicare-fraud scheme.

Good old professional law enforcement by dedicated and ethical professionals from DOJ — what a concept!
And Gonzo and Alice Fisher have the nerve to stand up in the press conference and divert the spotlight from the real heroes and heroines.
What despicable pieces of shit these people are.
Suzanne @ 475
I have been very bad, and i would add that Microsoft really bites, except that I’m on a Mac and I broke my margins too.
But Suzanne don’t take our toys away, what would we play with then??? ;)
newtonusr @ 476
I’d apologize to you too, but you weren’t here dammit!
thanks, newtonusr. :) hopefully, i will find its twin peaks version up in oregon or washington when it sells.
BTW, should I make this my desktop or my screensaver?
And the 444 is just too much of a coincidence.
Um – Love you Suzanne – but is this what happens when TRez is not here to control us?
Helen, trust me, I am very well acquainted with my inner bitch – there was a reason I was known as the bitch with a badge.
I prefer not going there and letting you guys see the consequences of playing around.
Helen @ 484
Yea, no therapod tail to avoid, oh wait did someone mention cuffs??? *g*
Just out:
Anchorage Daily News publisher Mike Sexton announced today that the newspaper will stop publishing the Voice of the Times, a half-page editorial section that has appeared in the Daily News for 15 years.
The exact date publication will cease was not immediately available, but the contract between Voice of the Times and the Daily News expires this month.
Voice of the Times is published by Veco Corp. chief executive officer Bill Allen, who pleaded guilty Monday to bribery and conspiracy charges. But in a news release, Sexton said Allen was informed last week that the Daily News would allow the contract to expire.
Apparently, calls, e-mails and visits have been swarming the Daily News on this, including my letter to the editor that the ADN called me about today.
The Voice of the Times was the biggest wingnut welfare rag in Alaska. Some Veco-paid schmucks are involved in right-wing AM radio up here too, and we’re aiming at them next.
More here.
Suzanne @ 485
OMG – I loved you before – but now you are telling me that you are a girl who knows how to use a gun?
To explain the BWAB comment, I always dealt with people on the street the way they dealt with me. They were respectful and I was respectful back. They were assholes, I can go from zero to bitch in less than a nanosecond. Street rules don’t really belong on a blog so I prefer not to act that way here.
Article II Section 2 of the Constitution says of the President:
But what does “except in cases of impeachment” mean in this context:
* The president can’t nullify an impeachment via a pardon?
* The president can’t pardon someone who has been impeached, absolving them from criminal liability?
* Once the House has impeached a president, he/she can no longer grant pardons until/unless the Senate fails to convict?
* Something else?

Suzanne – once or twice – my quote has been underlined (with all the other quotes.) Who does that? I thought the mods. NO?
———
Helen, I believe what you are referring to is the underline that appears with each embedded link within a comment. Those links include the references back to the quoted comments (like the Helen @ 477 and Suzanne @ 475 in this comment).
If the embedded link is not properly closed, then the formatting continues until it is closed with the /a inside the “greater than” and “less than” symbols.
If anything, the mods close those tags if they have been left open. They do not add additional underline to anything within a comment.
Hope that makes sense.
Oh my – we are at 490 comments. Is anyone watching? Hey Patrick 4/4 let’s do a post
Helen, former. Retired 3 years now. Just so you know, when I was in the Police Academy, I had the fastest reload time of my class (back in the day when we carried revolvers and not semi’s).
And, I have outshot my (at that time)cheating soon to be exhusband fellow officer during a quarterly qualification. The rangemaster took particular delight in posting it so everyone, including the soon to be ex, could see our respective results – side by side.
Suzanne @ 489
Mmmmmm – chicks’n’guns…
Wigwam, in essence, the prez can not pardon himself or whomever is impeached, impeachment is not a criminal trial, all that results is the termination of the office holder, be it a Federal Judge, congresscritter, and/or executive branch member!!!
Helen @ 492
You vixen, you.
That’s enough anarchy for one night. I’m going to join my wife in bed.
And steal her blanket.
And none to soon for the demise of the VOT, especially after today’s nudge for the legistlators to get down to business. What temerity.
Can’t wait to read your letter (as if I would know) – maybe I will be able to tell.
Ed*ard Teller @ 487
Dismantling the machine one cog at a time. Nice work in AK.

Impeachment is the political equivalent of a criminal indictment. It’s a formal charge of wrongdoing. After indictment, there’s a trial. After impeachment, there’s a trial too, but not in criminal court.
Presidents are impeached by the House of Representatives, and tried by the Senate.
If someone is impeached and removed from office, the president can’t pardon the person for the offense that got them kicked out of office.
You probably already got your answer, Wigwam, but I type real s l o w.
Patrick 4/4 @ 496
You have a wife? And you were giving my husband away? Oh no; let me talk to ‘her?”?
ET, do you think this is the first break in the wurlitzer’s physical machine?
P4/4, you haven’t caused enough raucus tonite? Now you want to steal the Blanket!!! Tut, Tut, Nite!!! :0
Just you wait until I have a little talk with Mrs. P4/4. Gonna be real cold in 4/4land :)
Helen @ 500
You have a wife? And you were giving my husband away? Oh no; let me talk to ‘her?”?
Definitely a her. That made your hubby a spare.
Now really good night.
