With an appreciation of how much delicacy the subject requires, I have a criticism of this post. I followed the Wolcott link, read the excerpt of the Auster piece, and was pretty surprised to see a provocative and dramatic statistic (I have no idea of its veracity) that indicates black men rape white women at something like 10 times the rate white men do. You provide the link as some kind of evidence that this guy Auster is a “racist”, then leave it at that. I happend to know that Horowitz is an extremist, a war monger, and, at least as far as Arabs are concerned, is definitely a “racist”. I’m not going to go reading his rag to find out more. Moreover, my political decisions aren’t swayed by Republicans trying to pick at the race scab, and I don’t wish to delve further into the statistic Auster offers.

That said, your post is the kind that only an echo chamber can produce. I advise you to keep it confined to the echo chamber. If you ever trot out such a statistic to white male voters it’s guaranteed to antagonize them: first you goad and provoke with a statistic that, unless you’re mathematically illiterate, indicates a racial disproportion in rape, then you imply anyone who interprets it the wrong way is “racist”.

Race is a difficult topic — stick to where you can prove racism empirically, and where it has political relevance: voter suppression and election tampering, for example, are things you can prove and which even some prejudiced white men will feel affronted by; it violates the vestigial sense of fair play many still have.

It’s amazing to me that there are so many similarities between Enron and Bush’s WH. And Bush and Ken Lay being best friends. Total incompetence, mismanagement, chronism, piling on debt, hubris, ego. The only difference is that Bush controls the DOJ. Let’s hope that comes to an end soon.

Did you all read the Enron books? One revelation was that they worked against one another. There wasn’t cooperation between the diff groups and they may even have sabotaged one groups successes to enhance their own. That’s how Cheney’s office works.

isnt it amazing how someone with virtually no Constitutional authority can manage to take over a country?
