Amazing how many survivors of different kinds of abuse we have in this room. And how many of us use that to find empathy with victims of other kinds in the world around us.

I suppose that includes me; my mother was abused, but thank God, she learned enough to protect her children. I wasn’t so lucky at school. I was bullied horribly, and I know it left deep, deep scars. I’m pretty sure that’s one reason why I’m as angry as I am–I have absolutely no tolerance and a great deal of sensitivity to this kind of bullshit, and I am
shaking inside right now.

Quake inside along with us and we’ll all shake & quake together until we move political mountains. Then, even if you don’t feel completely healed you’ll feel pretty good.

Part of the answer lies in the Constitution. It makes the president commander in chief of the armed forces, the only elected official whose orders every general and every private must obey.

It also makes him responsible for assuring that the legal obligation of habeas corpus must be observed, and that international treaties signed and ratified must be followed.

Ever heard of Geneva, Mr. Broder? I understand it’s a quaint little relic of the past, but I could be mistaken.

If the Geneva Conventions are ‘quaint’, then what is the US Constitution, which is much much older?

This certainly tells us what the NeoCons think of anything they don’t approve.

“Washington reality”? Was that an intentional oxymoron, or does Broder’s Brain no longer process what he writes.

Describing Congress’ role as limited to the power of the purse is wishful thinking among those whom oversight will expose as empty stenographers of Bush’s lies.

As for the President’s “clear plan” for dealing with Iraq, its performance to date has been a F-, like his plans for his failed businesses, for Social Security, managing the budget….

Great post. One pesky detail. If you drop a lit match into a pool of kerosene, the match will go out. You either need to wick the kerosene (which will give you a smoky controlled burn) or aerosol it (big woosh). Kerosene fumes, unlike gasoline fumes, don’t ignite.

I wrote the Dean an email after his savaging of Harry Reid. The summary of his latest column makes me realize that I wasted my electrons. Broder lives in his own ivory tower; the rest of us are stuck with making the best of reality.

Whoo, boy, i got as far as ‘public opinion and Washington reality’ and had to Spotlight his ass – “”Public opinion and Washington Reality?” Mr. Broder, I think you have it backwards – Washington opinion should be derived from the public’s reality; as in, Government By, For, and Of the People. You all in D.C. have placed yourselves in a monarchical position and it is not fitting.”

Broder is even cheaper and more craven than bush and the neocons. He’s trying to set things up where it’s a win-win for Broder – ‘heads I win, tails you lose’: come September, Broder issues an ‘I told you so’ no matter what the outcome. Broder is a slimy weasel of the first degree.

For all the knocking that FDL and others have done of Broder, I found that his answers-except for his refusal to cite any Reid examples-were very strong.

While he and pretty much all the “respected” inside the beltway pundits need continual doses of criticism, Broder showed for the most part a very rational view.

That said, I love these progressive blogs which are forcing these ITBP out of their comfort zones to confront their own dribble…think Joe Klein in the past few months…
