A lullaby.
And good night.
Lyrics below the fold.
Good Enough
Hey your glass is empty
it's a hell of a long way home
why don't you let me take you
it's no good to go alone
I never would have opened up
but you seemed so real to me
after all the bullshit I've heard
it's refreshing now to see
I don't have to pretend
she doesn't expect it from me
Don't tell me I haven't been good to you
don't tell me I have never been there for you
just tell me why
nothing is good enough
Hey little girl would you like some candy
your momma said that it's OK
The door is open come on outside
no I can't come out today
it's not the wind that cracked your shoulder
and threw you to the ground
who's there that makes you so afraid
you're shaken to the bone
and I don't understand
you deserve so much more than this
So don't tell me why
he's never been good to you
don't tell me why
he's never been there for you
don't you know that why
is simply not good enough
so just let me try
and I will be good to you
just let me try
and I will be there for you
I'll show you why
you're so much more than good enough…

Do you live your life for zed?
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lolo @ 0
I’m starting to think you must be cheating, lolo. I just can’t figure out how.
This song goes out to the Puma family, our Texas Girls, DreamingCrow, and all the rest who know what this song is really about.
Thanks, TRex.
TRex @ 5
Extra-zedsory perception.
You told the kids downstairs we’re up here, right, lolo?
…and on that truly horrible pun, I’m off. Good night, and good luck. Hugs all around.
Thanks TRex & Firepups
TRex @ 8
In rhyme, no less.
Lolo did, TRex. She let them know. Still some heavy conversations going on down there.
TRex @ 5
lolo is the Ghost in the Machine and knows all that happens in the Toobz.

It’s something!!! Zed Master lolo!!!
Sweet dreams and big hugs to all the firepups.
Damn you, T-Rex!
I should be going to bed now. Gotta get up tomorrow morning to go to work, gotta finish a book for my book club, gotta, gotta, gotta…ah, hell.
Evening, all!
Mutant Poodle @ 11
Sho’ nuff!!! TRex!!!

G’nite TRex. G’nite Suzanne. G’nite John Boy.
G’nite All.
‘Night, firepups. Must sleep now.
Hey, pups, what’s on the hearing schedule for this week?
SusanD @ 26
Nite, Nite.
TRex,
I Spotlighted your last post to as many WaPo people as I thought were appropriate (OK, the limit, ten) and included the ombudsman.
I don’t expect miracles right away.
They need to know we’re taking careful note.
SusanD @ 26
Sleep well SusanD
TRex @ 5
Thanks, TRex. Much love.
You really don’t think I am cheating do you?
lolo @ 32
Nah, just dedicated.
(waving)
Hi TB
TribeScribe @ 34
Howdy!
Texas Betsy @ 33
We all need a hobby. *G*
Well, Pups, I think it is time for me to turn in as well. Need to finish grading my graduate seminar papers and have about 100 essay exams coming in tomorrow. One more week and I am done! A whole summer devoted to fishing, hiking, and camping.
Got the Robin Williams YouTube up and running
Nite Prof.D : )
May you prevail over the paper mountain!
DrDick @ 37
Wow, sounds fun (the hiking, camping & fishing, not the grading.) Where are you planning to hike/fish/camp?
kristine @ 40
Western Montana, where I live. Nice having several million acres of public lands (all forests and mountains) at your disposal.
Dr. Dick, I’ve thought of moving to Western Montana when the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods sells.
I think I’m going to end up in Oregon or Washington but MT is still on my list.
DrDick @ 41
Don’t I know it! I live in the Seattle area in Washington, after having grown up in a tiny town in the Cascades. Our natural areas are a blessing.
A little different take on an old fav: Bohemian Rhapsody
Suzanne @ 42
Let me know if you need some advice about Washington, Suzanne. I’m a native Northwesterner, as rare as that seems to be nowadays.
Thanks, DC.
a boy selling puppies was asked by laura bush.
how much?he said $5 mam and they are republican.
she said they are so cute if you have one left next week,i’ll have one.
next week he has two left.along comes laura bush with $5 and the boy says,no mam they are now $50 and democratic.she last week they were republican, now they are democratic.how come?
the boy says, their eyes have opened.
apologies,lame but to the point.

may @ 47
Excellent!
When my last tiny little corner of FL is paved over, I’ve often thought of moving out to the PacNW-you guys make it sound heavenly.DC, I know how you feel-I am the LAST native Floridian.( I think).
I love that song. Of course, I love nearly everything she’s done, but that one is a particular favorite.
RonD @ 50
It is, really. If you’re into nature at all, if you love water, if you can handle the fact that we have more cloudy skies than most places (NOT more rain), it’s damn well heaven on earth.
Just take a look!
Mighty fine eye candy there, DC.
DreamingCrow @ 52
DC you are an AMAZING photographer! Truly outstanding! And make me want to come north to visit your area.
Heh. I am a DC-area native, and got to hear my whole life about how “no one lives here, everyone is transient.” Of course the reality is that millions of people live their whole lives here; we just don’t “count” to the people who are transient (elected officials, political appointees, high-level staff), plus those like political journalists, who live here for decades but pretend it isn’t home. And since to the rest of the country, the only people here are those damn politicians, we don’t really exist to them, either.
It’s just really weird.
A little different take on an old fav: PEG
Suzanne @ 53
Thank you. I’m going to be working on getting more photos edited and galleried, as well as opening up the actual website again, here soon. I have three years of 6MP digital SLR photos that haven’t hardly been touched, as well as taking new ones.
I need to make a portfolio and shop this stuff to the local coffee shops and small galleries.
Texas Betsy @ 54
::blushes:: Thank you. I often don’t believe in myself nearly enough.
I highly recommend visiting, it’s well worth it.
RonD @ 50
FWIW, you must like the color combination of grey and green for the pacific northwest. I lived in Eugene, Oregon for 18 years. The trees are very green and there are very many of them and the sky is often grey even when it’s not actually raining or drizzling. This goes for pretty much most of west of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and Washington. After I while I’d wake up and start screaming heavenward, “No, not another f**king day of grey.” Then I’d get to work and there was one woman there who’d say, “Oh, I find the grey so restful.” I drew the conclusion that she was living in the right place. I’m in Texas now, where I either vacate or moan about the heat in the summer. Winters here – now that’s made in heaven for weather. But I do miss my mountains where I spent a lot of time backpacking, hiking and camping.
So, Lolo, where in the Land of Squandered Promise (aka the OC) do you live?
I moved here in 1986, lived in Irvine for a while, in Orange since 1991. Thought I was outta here to NoVa in 1999, but my wife and kid had other ideas.
I have a good friend who graduated from Tustin HS in 1970. He’s seen a bit of change here, as you can imagine.
Lou Costello @ 48,

I loved the group you linked to, thanks! This is another good one.
DreamingCrow @ 58
Have not left central Texas for almost two years. Kinda afraid to travel I think.
I live in Los Alamitos now. I have lived her for 17 years. I have lived all over, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley. I owned a hair salon across from South Coast Plaza during the late 80’s and another in Westminster in the 90’s.
Should say here not her. Typing to fast.
Margot @ 61
Glad you like California Guitar Trio. THX for your link. There’s some talent there. All this talk of out west & sticking with my theme:

I went to Fountain Valley High School 71-73 but graduated from Yucaipa High School in 73.
TRex @ 8
I wish you wouldn’t do that. I wind up in EPU-ville all by myself, wondering where everybody went, because I write stuff that is posted after the new thread alert, but I don’t see that alert until later, as I work my way through the comments. Humpf.
Bob in HI
Texas Betsy @ 33
Just too much time on her hands.
Texas Betsy, I left a note for you downstairs, but I don’t know if its worth your time to go get it.
Bob in HI
Hi Bob..don’t feel like the Lone Ranger in EPUville…it happens to the best of us ;)
Bob Schacht @ 67
It gets confusing especially when I am posting back and forth between threads or looking for links to articles. One time I was telling off a troll at The Next Hurrah and I posted it in a FDL comment box during a busy thread I was so embarrassed.
Bob in HI —- Left you a reply.
driving by, can’t sleep…hello, anyone!
LoudounLib @ 72
Hello you.
DreamingC-stunning! You know what? I’d move there, and then they’ll start paving it over.
LoudounLib @ 72
Hi LoudounLib how are you tonight.
Hey TB, how are ya?
Good eve, LL.
Sleepless in New England
lolo @ 75
Hey there, queen of the zed! ;-) how are ya?
Still awake on the West Coast, LL.
hello TribeScribe, from an obvious insomniac down in VA :-)
Anyone else having trouble with the REFRESH button taking too long?
LL#78-she rules with an iron fist. :)
hi Suzanne, gosh there are still a few folks awake!
RonD @ 82
She is good! ;-)
Toupee!
Elephant dung!!
Ferret rants!!!
Truly an amazing lake.
I just finished reading the previous thread…and I think I need to go chop some wood tomorrow. It’s amazing how many people have these demons.
I really believe in karma. I have to. Just in case I’m wrong, I also believe in the death penalty. Together, both help quiet the demons.
Twice, I’ve found myself hoping the police could make an arrest, but not be able to get a conviction.
Apologizing that this is now off topic.
I am OK but don’t like being called a cheater. It’s not very nice.
Refresh button working well on the west coast using firefox on a pc.
lolo @ 86
You’re right, that is not very nice. We know the truth.
((( lolo )))
RonD @ 74
Nope, don’t think so. We’ve been bitching about the transplants since the 70’s, but we have huge swaths of parks, national parks, national and state forests, etc. Most of those aren’t going anywhere, even with the urban areas getting built up.
Thanks, as well!
lolo @ 86
Lolo, I called you a zed swiper. Not quite as bad. But I apologize if I offended you.
Texas Betsy @ 90
Not you the theropod. : ( made me cry

Lou, I can’t get that link to work :-( Is it from the Concert For George, by chance?
ps, I am on high speed
Texas Betsy @ 71
Thanks. Anger can be a bastard (i.e., source unknown or unacknowledged).
Bob in HI
lolo, I did not read this:
I’m starting to think you must be cheating, lolo. I just can’t figure out how.
as him calling you a cheater – I read it as a tongue in cheek snark about how you get the zed every thread and how he can’t figure out how you do it.
lolo @ 66
Trying to imagine what Yucaipa was like in the 70s. Probably not very much like the leafy green suburb in New Jersey where I graduated from HS the same year.
lolo @ 86
lolo, i just think of it as grabbing the brass ring.
who wouldn’t?? (((lolo)))
Those who are worthy, let them step up!
(ok, a little too much LordoftheRings 2nite)
burns @97 — did I see a couple of threads back or so that you are/were in NoVA?
…driving by…it was 91* here today and is still in the 80’s at this hour with windows and doors open and wearing shorts and barefoot…
Suzanne @ 97
I don’t get it every thread sheesh. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out when a post is due.
LoudounLib @ 94
LL, what’s happenin in the Old Dominion?
DCrow, where I live about 20 mi SE of Tampa, 30 years ago there was almost nothing but endless woods, fields, and swamps all the way to Lake Okeechobee, over 100 miles-just beautiful. It’s now all rapidly becoming strip malls, white-flight suburbs, and endless concrete. It’s difficult to explain to new comers just how beautiful this place used to be. Now, more and more, it all starts to look like Orlando.
:(
spiderpaws @ 100
oh wow…it’s 40 here right now with a freeze warning overnight!
*waving to spidey* tis a fine night here at the cottage by the creek in the redwoods also. 58 outside with all my doors and windows open.
spiderpaws @ 100
Heeey, Spiderpaws!
what’s in the stars, dear one?

R&R Hall of Fame Induction. Prince is amazing. You can find it here. Under MEDIA (sml/med/lrg WMV and QT)
TribeScribe, not a whole lot — other than that Her Majesty QE II is here in DC for a state dinner. We’re all in a tizzy ;-)
The first time I ever set foot in OC was in 1980, while I was in law school at USC. Drove down to go to a show at the Golden Bear. Got off the 405 at Goldenwest and drove toward the ocean, through mile after mile of three-bedroom, two-bath houses surrounded by cinder block walls.
I immediately understood Social D and Black Flag much better.
Lou, I have seen that one — that is one awesome performance. Prince tore it up!
burnspbesq @ 98
Actually it was very green for being considered the upper desert. It was full of hippies and young vets home from the war. Oh and lots of old people.
(stopping the speeding vehicle with a screech)….58* is warm? I wear long underwear at that temperature and you have your doors open
LoudounLib @ 100
Was, in 1999-2000. Lived about 100 yards from the Vienna Metro station, in the big apartment complex on Lee Hwy. Used to put my bike nn the back of the car and take it out to Purcellville to ride on the dirt roads, away from traffic. Probably not like that any more, is it?
Burns, if ‘99 was the last time you were here — yes, it’s quite a bit different. Just add about 200% more traffic and tons more development out west, and you can get the idea. The new DC suburbs are out in WV now!
LoudounLib @ 111
It used to be on YouTube…been pulled…DRAT!
burnspbesq @ 98
Where in NJ?
well, spidey, it is warm enough to be sitting here in sweats and my knit watch cap. i tend to keep it in the 50’s inside during the winter so this feels fine. 53 is a completely different story.
sorry about bringing your drive-by to a screeching halt, spidey. since you are here… any insight into the week ahead?
LoudounLib @ 115
When I worked for the IRS in the 1990s, I knew a number of National Office folks who commuted in from West Virginia. Tough to afford an house any closer to DC on a GS-13 salary.
burnspbesq @ 119
Sadly that is still true. I work with plenty of folks who live in the southern exurbs (Stafford, Spotsylvania, etc) for the same reason.
burnspbesq @ 110
I know what you mean. Each tract had it’s own elementary school and kids seldom left their tract until they were bussed to Jr High.
TB @ 117:
Ridgewood. Good place to grow up. Would move back there in a heartbeat if I got transferred to our NY office. Tough to afford a house there nowadays. The house that my parents bought for $50K in 1967 sold for $1.1 mil in 2004.
Lou @116, I think that’s where I first saw it as well. I bookmarked that last site you posted and will go back to it later. Thanks so much!
burnspbesq @ 122
I grew up in the same county, but a bit later. I have brothers who were class of 71, 74, & 83.
LoudounLib @ 123
No problem. When I found it ‘gone’, I was on a mission to locate it again, without buying the DVD that is. *wink
Texas Betsy @ 124
What HS did you go to?
Lou Costello @ 125
You smart ;-)
Cliffside Park RULES! Or at least it did 22 years ago.

laughing, actually, i was whistling about the rock and roll hall of fame link discussion
now that you mention the zig… (more laughing)
On Tuesday right after midnight, Venus enters the sign of Cancer and we can expect the desire nature to change to protective, defensive, hole up at the homefront and bake cookies, lots of activities centering around the kiddies and a lot of pendulum swinging (waaaaaay over on that emotional lede then waaaaay over the other way on the opposite emotional ledge)….then Mercury leaves plodding old Taurus on Friday at 2 AM – ish and the intellectual pace will pick up considerably til it goes completely mad by the 27th…charging ahead will be Mars on the 15th when it enters Aries, its natural home, and then you will see some real, pushy action out of Bush & the Congress and everybody else for that matter.
Peace offering for Suzanna & midnight snack for the rest of us.
Suzanne @ 136
((( Suzanne ))) ;-)
Hey RMD, nice cloak. I loved working the night shift – 4pm to 3am was my favorite shift.
TB,
Only people who went there call it that. To the rest of the world, it’s “Englewood.”
There was a kid my year from there, an enormously talented basketball player named Bill Tinsley, who died of a heroin overdose at age 16. I played freshman basketball, and he lit me up but good when we played them. Really sad.
Thanks, TB. Santa always brings me jelly bellys in my stocking. When my girls were little, their respective 4th grade class field trip was to the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield, CA.
Spidey, sounds like an interesting month ahead. What is that old curse about living in interesting times?
burnspbesq @ 141
yeah well ! it was dmhs to us
Thanks Spiderpaws. We’ve been missing you thanks for the update.

OK, I’m out. Conference call at 7:30, and it’s almost midnight here. Good night, everyone. When we wake tomorrow, we will be one day closer to January 20, 2009.
I am also turning in. Will hope to see all of you tomorrow.

Same here. My astrologer/mom passed last year and left ‘two’ holes in my soul. I guess I could find another………astrologer that is.

G’night, all.
OK, folks, I’m off to bed, too.

Time for this firepup to head off to bed. G’nite all.
Good morning, pups. Nicholas Kristof is alone behind the firewall at the NYT, writing about the concentration of power in American politics.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
Coffee and tea are ready, and a selection of bagels with cream cheese and/or jam. (There’s also lox if you care for any…)
It’s late — or early — to add to the Bergen County/Texas connection, but I was born in Bergen County, grew up in Houston and now live in Dallas. Visted my old town (one of the trillion Washington Townships) 14 years ago, even able to direct Husband to the correct little cul-de-sac. There I sat. Couldn’t get
out of the car to knock on my godparents’ front door (still living there, across the street from my house). Interesting, to say the least.
All this nature talk makes me want to go outside and climb a hill … Or sit by a lake … Then I remember where I am. Think I’ll just take in the cement and be thankful for my health.
Mornin’ all!
Marion in Savannah @ 160
Is this Hillary bashing in disguise?
I think the Repugs are dying for Hillary to win the nomination because they know exactly how to fight her. I don’t think they know what to do with Obama, so they’re trying to sideline him now and make Hillary seem inevitable.
good morning. Just you and I are up, twofl? Are you watching the new MSNBC host? It’s Larry Elder who I had never heard of. Another extreme right-winger. Mocking those that demonstrated in LA last week. And putting out the theory that the protesters may have been throwing fozen bottles of urine at the cops.
solai @ 164
Mornin’ solai. Looks like a couple others are awake too. I just turned on MSNBC so I can join in teh fun. Here’s Larry’s email if you felt so inclined to tell him what you think about him. sage AT larryelder DOT com
How many days do we have to suffer w/ this guy?
I emailed MSNBC w/ suggestions for hosts. He wasn’t on my list!
Georgesimian @ 163, I think you’re on to something there. Hillary is the Repug’s dream date because they have so much history to sift through. An Obama or an Edwards would be harder for them to tie down, I think.
I think they’ll figure out really quickly how to deal with Obama…and it won’t be pretty. And they’ve got Griffin down in Arkansas preparing for a Hillary run. I’m for Edwards but will support (happily) any Dem candidate.
And you can see that they’re gearing up for an Edwards run, also (see the Stepanopoulous interview).
Well, on GMA I’m watching Pickles (medicated early, it would seem) talk about her gown for the State Dinner… Unless, of course, that’s some Animatronics thing that they put out in public while the real Pickles is holed up somewhere with a cigarette and a cocktail…
mornin’ pups
solai @ 166
This jerk came from our neck of the woods, before getting airtime in Cali. Always been a right wing nutcase and, since he’s black (as I am) a useful tool to show the “universal appeal” of the right.
solai @ 168
I don’t know if you caught my comments on this yesterday in the “Why Al Gore?” thread, but I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Just ask Harold “Call Me” Ford what they’ll do when crunch time comes in the election.
Hillary can’t win-too polarizing. If Gore doesn’t run Edwards would be my choice as well.
New thread from Scarecrow is upstairs…
