It took me a second to realize what was so weird about this picture of Paris Hilton leaving court today.
She was then ordered to report to a women's jail in suburban Lynwood by the set date or face 90 days behind bars. The judge's ruling excluded her from paying to serve time in a jail of her choice, as some are allowed.
That irritating little self-satisfied smirk of hers is gone. Wiped clean away with one bang of the gavel. I was starting to think she'd had it tattooed on by some Beverly Hills plastic surgeon.
In the words that an agent of the Georgia Department of Corrections said to a former friend of mine when he'd had enough of listening to her wail and cry on the phone to her lawyer upon her arrest for drunk driving, "Your time is up, Little White Princess."
*click*
It's like I said in the previous thread:
You know both her folks are screaming into their Blackberries right now at lawyers who are patiently explaining over and over that the judge was perfectly within his rights and they can’t appeal post sentencing and blah blah blah and Kathy and Rick aren’t hearing a word of it.
“God DAMN it, Stan, can’t she just pay a fine or something? She’s my little girl! It was a minor fucking offense!”
Bourgeois pigs. It’s good for them to run up hard on something they can’t bully and sleaze their way out of.
Now. Let's look at another famous Monster of Entitlement:

(You-know-who and the last supporter of the Iraq War.)
I can only hope that the next few months are going to bring similar smirk-wiping moments for a certain overgrown toddler we all know. I like to think that Paris Hilton's accountability moment is part of a larger societal trend, an end to impunity for the arrogant and high-handed. It's like Jane says, "Accountability is the new black. And every day is Fitzmas."
Mmmm. Accountability. No more, "I take full responsibility" and then walking away from the microphone and not looking back. No more loopholes and evasions for Condi or Karl or Gone-zales, Grover or Kristol or Krauthammer. Nope.
Hang on to your Good'n'Plenty's gang. It's Karmageddon!

Zed?
Um…zed?
I wasn’t even trying!!! Honest Lolo!!!
Paris Hilton is the white Ivory Latta. They are the two most annoying women to ever walk the planet.
Hats off to you, CTuttle — for the zed AND the question mark.
Definately, Did Not look like a smirk to me!!!
CT, did you let those downstairs know about the new post?
Well, balls. I screwed up. This post wasn’t supposed to go up for another half hour.
What kind of wonderful karma-laden fuckery is this?!?!
mrsmarks @ 4
Thanx, MM, I really wasn’t trying, ooh I have two Zeds notched on my Bed Post!!! ;) Oh, I almost forgot, TRex!!!
Suzanne @ 6
I’m sorry Ma’am I didn’t, I really did stumble into this one!!! *g*
EvilDrPuma @ 8
Sux to be Ya!!! ;P
So go do so, CT, time’s a’wasting!
No ☼ Ζ Ш D ☼
TRex @ 7
Did I mention? TRex!!!
MMMM. Raising a glass in favor of smirk-wiping moments!
CTuttle @ 9
I was surprised by the empty thread myself. Just got home. Had to go to a birthday party (and there’s an age alert — I HAD to go instead of wanted to) came home and checked up on the Lake and, wonder of wonders, a brand new thread with silence. Oof!
CTuttle @ 3
Standing on chair clapping Congratulations!
Suzanne @ 12
Aah, Wilco!!!
TRex did you post early just to keep lolo from getting another zed?
CTuttle @ 3
OOO lolo’s gonna be pissed!!!
hey all. What did Paris get popped for? Ever since I got these 2 fucking jobs I’m completely out of the loop.
btw, love ya TRex (and I’m single)
Texas Betsy @ 20
No, I posted early because I must have left out a step when I was putting it into the timer.
Wil @ 22
Oh, yeah? Where do you live? Are you cute?
Hey TRex – I had a rough work week. This pic of Paris being lead out of court – when we know she is going to jail made my freaking weekend. Thank you master.
lolo @ 18
I thought you were Johnny on the Spot!!! OT, Suzanne; “Mission Accomplished” albeit, belatedly!!!
Are the editors of the New Republic really as stupid as the shit they write?
Moebius people (heads so far up their asses that they come back out through their own mouths).
Helen @ 25
Pffffft. I’m nobody’s master. Too much responsibility.
TRex @ 23
I like conspiracies!!! LOL!!!
Wil @ 22
Basically, ignoring every single part of the penalty for her previous drunk driving arrests.
Thanks, CT – get the zed, let downstairs know there is a new thread.
burnspbesq @ 27
I think that’s called a Klein (sp?) Bottle.
Wil @ 21
Driving with a suspended license. BTW, it’s currently the lead story at cnn.com. ‘Cause, ya know, nothing else of any import is happening in the world.
Helen @ 21
Snicker, Snicker!!!
burnspbesq @ 27
Yes.
This has been another edition of Simple Answers to Simple Questions.
mrsmarks @ 17
and you didn’t get the zed, why?
Further to the Washington Post fuckery [Democrats momentum is stalling] I posted the following comment:
So Jon Kyl thinks the Democrats will have trouble if they can’t get past GOP obstruction. He’s certainly what I’d call an unbiased observer.
Do you guys simply retype the Republican press releases, or do you take a few minutes to reowrd them as well?
CTuttle — do you like participating in conspiracies or just contemplating and discussing them?
mrsmarks @ 33
Yet another reason she deserves jail time – all the news time wasted on her privileged, skanky ass.
Wil @ 22
Wil you have been missed. How are the jobs working out? So much drama for you to catch up on. Good thing it is the wee
Couldn’t believe it was there for the taking!
DrDick @ 39
Hey, let’s send all the cable news bigwigs to join her!

Surely you don’t think Mlle. is going to set foot in a plebian facility? Even if she winds up being tortured, I’ve a feeling there will be comfy chairs and soft cushions involved.
mrsmarks @ 33
Nothing else? So we won in Iraq and all out troops are home, safe and sound. Good to hear. /sarcasm. I hate having jobs, I miss my 10-12/day at the lake
DrDick @ 39
mrsmarks @ 33
Wil @ 21
Can we send away the “news” editors/directors as accomplices?
Karmageddon
lol – i like that
lolo @ 40
how did that happen? Any how good thing it is the weekend or do you have to work?
litbrit @ 45
But no-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!!
I like your voice, TRex. It’s got that bluesy quality that is my favorite sound.
I’ll download a song or two when I get my shiny new Vista computer figured out. I upgraded from a Windows 98 old jalopy so it might take awhile. I hate change.
Who’s she with? That’s not Howard Weitzman, her lawyer. I say Free Paris.
litbrit @ 45
Nope. She asked to be sent to the rich people’s jail. The judge sez she gets to hang out with the commoners.
Please consider this the do not quote comment comment. Look before pressing the quote this comment button. If there is already a quoted comment inside, or even worse, a link, please do not use that button.
It can and will bust the margins and that can and will lead to cranky mods. Cranky mods are not a good thing :)
TRex @ 24
I can vouch for the fact that he is the sweetest. Hey wil are you a cutie too?
Wil @ 45
Oh, honey. We’ve won Iraq, conquered Iran, demolished North Korea and sent oilocracy — oops, I mean, democracy — flourishing throuhgout the world.
Didn’t Bill O’Reilly tell you?
carolyn13 @ 51
Good luck. Latest reports have it that Vista is buggy as hell. Even worse than the usual Windows “rush it into production before we debug” offerings. This is why I always wait a whiel before upgrading my operating system Helps that my son is a sys op and lets me know when it is safe top do so.
Hey Trex, who is Dubya flipping off? Where did you find the pic?
mrsmarks@41
I am assuming you are a girl – because of the mrs thing. If you are a boy I would say “WEENIE” With much love, of course.
Paris is on probation for DUI which was pled down to reckless driving. Her license was suspended as a condition of that probation.
She got caught driving TWICE on a suspended license. Did not sign up for substance abuse classes as was court ordered.
lolo @ 58
Google image search. I’m not sure about the context here.

Helen @ 58
Thanks. As to the weenie thing, probably last vestiges of Catholic upbringing! (Always allow others to go first, young lady…)
how did that happen? Any how good thing it is the weekend or do you have to work?
Thank lolo, they are going pretty good. I got hired on as a real employee (I’ve been a temp) at the law firm as of the 16th of this month, YEE HAW! health insurance.
As for those weekend things you mention, I seem to remember them, but I bartend/barback/cocktail/door/bounce at a gay bar on the fri/sat. Worked 6 straight weeks and counting
carolyn13 @ 51
I think you have to have at least a Gig of memory for Vista. Did you upgrade that also?
litbrit @ 45
Oh no! Not the comfy chair!
(I see I’m not the only one with “Spanish Inquisition” flashbacks.)
Re: The Smirk –
I predict the day will come when — thanks to Junior and others like the Little White Princess — the very existence of a smirk on someone’s face will lead others to look on with great suspicion.
Straightforwardness and sincerity will make a comeback in “pop culture.”
(And no — I don’t think this is just wishful thinking. The sea change beginning now and turning soon into a tsunami will entail great impatience with anything that smacks of haughtiness and unearned arrogance.)

Well, just look at that pic of La Hilton. You know she’s in serious mode because she’s wearing three layers of clothing up top, and she’s only got two or three buttoms undone.
Christ, she might as well be wearing a space suit, relatively speaking.

Good point.

DrDick @ 74
But will they make her wear panties?
Mrs. K8 @ 66
MrsK8 How are you? Nice to see you back. How are you feeling?
Speaking of Vista –
Because we in our house can foresee the day when the Monster from Redmond will refuse to provide any more support to W2K (thus forcing everyone to “upgrade” whether they want to or not) we’re taking early preemptive action –
Starting to learn Linux (Ubuntu version for now).
And Mr. K8 is going to be gradually introducing Linux into his work computing environment as well.
Take that, MicroPigs!

DrDick @ 73: If possible, she will take her cue from Martha and emerge from prison…

Hi Helen! Smooches and hugs to you and all the Pups!
Am doing physically OK. We had in our house some good bit of emotional upset these past few weeks, however, which kept me from posting (and from much of lots else I enjoy as well)…I was reluctant to post lest I blubber all over my keyboard and all over the wonderful thread content here.
Maybe it’s OK to ask for good thoughts and/or prayer (whatever works best) even if I don’t talk about the situation?
At any rate, things may be looking better soon, so I felt like dropping in again, as the crying jags have subsided.
I missed you all dearly, however!!!!

I agree. I have had a lot of friends who are combat vets (Viet Nam). These are inexperienced young people in a hostile and morally ambiguous environment. It is the role of the officers to set an example and ensure that their troops do not cross the line.

White Women in Prison:
Ohhh This has movie of the week all over it!
Fade in.
Women in the the prison shower.
Two women chatting about how they were totally excited that Paris Hilton was in their jail and maybe they will get to meet her.
Cut to figure silhouetted in doorway.
Paris Hilton is looking down and is horrified at the condition of the shower room floor. She is on the verge of tears.
The shower room goes quiet. Only sound is running water.
A well proportioned black woman walks over to her, reaches out her hand and quietly says.
Shaneequa: “It’s okay sweetie we won’t bite.”
Instead of taking her comment as a lifeline,
Paris jerks back as if hit.
Paris: “Don’t TOUCH ME! Don’t ANY OF YOU PEOPLE TOUCH ME! *I* don’t belong here with you, you criminals!”
Shaneequa: (The woman who reached out to Paris)
Well excuse me Miss Priss, I don’t belong here either, but that doesn’t mean I act like a Bitch to people I don’t know. Just because we are in prison doesn’t mean we are bad people. There is no call for you to be rude to us.
Paris bursts in to tears. She collapses into a heap on the floor sobbing.
Paris: “I wanna go home. I miss my doggie.”
—–
What will happen next? Will Paris reach out and be transformed by her relationship with Shaneequa?
Will the other inmates be wooed by her celebrity or will they stand with Shaneequa against the short timer interloper?
How many personal items will the inmates trade Paris in exchange for hard cash? Tune in next week for
Paris in the Iron Bar Hotel!

Texas Betsy @ 103
Yeah. When I lived in Chicago there were a bunch of stories about conditions in some of the public schools (all in poor black and Hispanic neighborhoods, imagine that), where they had problems with asbestos, peeling lead paint, mold, and God knows what else. I think this kind of thing is a condemnation of our country.

Usually what “the troops” tell each other and what they tell the outside world are two different things. Remember that My Lai was NOT an isolated event during our SEAsian “adventure” nor was Abu Grab during this “adventure”. Many are the events that go unreported. If you`ve never been exposed to that environment (combat) it is very difficult to understand the mind set & very easy to criticize the behavior. Best not to put anyone in that situation, ever (and yes, I know you know that).

College student charged with threatening Hillary Clinton
ATON ROUGE, Louisiana (AP) — A 19-year-old Louisiana State University student was being held Friday on $1 million bail, accused of planning an attack against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
State District Judge Mike Erwin set bail after Richard Ryan Wargo of Shreveport, Louisiana, was booked on charges of terrorizing, communicating false information of planned arson and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Clinton, a New York senator, is scheduled to be in Baton Rouge on Saturday to speak at the National Conference of Black Mayors. Police said it was unclear whether Wargo was planning to carry out the alleged attack at that time.
Wargo is listed on LSU’s web site as a physics major.
LSU Police Chief Ricky Adams said Wargo asked another student if he wanted to join him in committing arson, a “terrorist act” that he described as a “national event.”
“He allegedly went on to say it was political and it involved Hillary Clinton,” Adams said.
The classmate later learned Clinton had scheduled a Baton Rouge appearance. Police said the student reported Wargo to the university after a second conversation, in which Wargo allegedly made a second remark indicating he planned violence against Clinton.
That remark “was something along the lines of, ‘Have you ever heard of a dead president?’ ” Adams said. “That’s language that should be of concern to anyone. Thank goodness the classmate reported it.”
Police arrested Wargo in a traffic stop Thursday night. “He cooperated and did not resist,” Adams said.
Officers searched Wargo’s dormitory room and found documents that made the classmate’s accusations appear credible, Adams said. He declined to give details, but he said officers also seized Wargo’s computer and marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
A call to Wargo’s family’s home in Shreveport was not immediately returned.
U.S. Attorney David Dugas said the Secret Service is also investigating.

Helen and lolo –
Thanks so much!!!
I’ll think over the idea of discussing what’s wrong — a little time should elapse in any event.
My reluctance has a lot to do with my deep loyalty to the main person it concerns — even if that person is no one who posts here, and even though I’m more or less kinda “anonymous” except for some of those who’ve exchanged email with me.
I don’t know if that makes sense or not, but for me it feels right. I’m nothing if not loyal to the people I love. Perhaps ridiculously so, but there it is. Maybe after the situation has changed much for the better for everyone and everyone’s heart-pain has subsided it will feel acceptable to talk about in a “public” way.
But I thank you so much for your concern and interest — the offer of a shoulder to cry on and open arms to fall into for support and hugs means so very much to me.
I’m soooo loving this!

On the other hand I know how this will play next.
Calls for the chickens to be recalled will be squelched by the FDA. “It’s diluted! It’s not a problem. We got it all!”
Durbin’s food safety bill is primed to move if some humans get sick or die from this.
If the Republics are smart they will get behind it. If they care more about the money from the food lobby they will say, “We need to study this more. This is an isolated incident. 99 percent of the problem can be traced to two companies and they are no longer shipping gluten.”
I had a scathingly brilliant idea of working this so that I can get Sean Hannity to come out in favor of Dick Durbin’s food safety bill. He of course won’t, so we’ll say. “Well gee Sean whose side are you on, the people who kill puppies? That’s just cruel. I though you liked puppies Sean!” Then he would have to decide to support Durbin or be accused of supporting puppy killers.” Won’t happen he’s way to smart to fall for it.

Disgusting.
That does appear to be what happened. And so when they say it is so diluted that it won’t hurt you, they are using studies based on only ONE chemical. Not the cyanuric acid (and two other ones as well).
The FDA talks about the “dilution effect” but they don’t mention the accumulation effect.
And of course the FDA will NOT tell us who bought the 3.5 million tainted chickens that we ate. Why? Because we already ate ‘em! The FDA says you are probably fine. What’s the point? No need to worry. Oh and the FDA has just one question for you:
I think the TV news should jump on it. It could be a ratings bonanza. I don’t want to take on big chicken to expose it, I’ve already battled my quota of billion dollar corporations this year. The TV media should totally get on board with this. I’m sure they will be responsible!

Beware the White Screen of Death. If you try to do too much too quickly, your cursor will turn into a circling circle. If you persist in trying to do stuff, your screen may turn white, like fog settling in. You can still see stuff on your screen through the fog. If this happens, DO NOT do anything more! Back away from your computer! Go do something else for a while. Your computer is about to crash unless you leave it alone to meditate by itself. If you leave it alone long enough, it will probably calm down, and will allow you to continue using it.

The most brilliant line to appear on the Internet in recent memory: KARMAGEDDON. Karmageddon, for those who haven’t thought through the implicit understandings in the context given, is the appreciation that catastrophic instructive consequences arise for the extremely ungracious of individuals and groups as a direct result of One’s choices. We are all One. Choose for One’s self only as One might choose for One’s self. Karma is the guarantee that instructive consequences will arise.

Well, I’m sure it wasn’t the same neurotoxin, but you know that alcohol is a neurotoxin, don’t you? I don’t know what BAC you need to have in order to start killing brain cells, but when I see some people who are drunk, it could be happening. Also I know that the babies of women who drink while pregnant are definitely at risk for stunted brain development, which can be very subtle. How many IQ points get shaved off by each drink? I don’t know, and it does depend on genes and diet and lots of other things, but the bedrock truth is that alcohol is a neurotoxin.

And to Wil, for doing the work of the angels. I know what you mean about the humility of learning from folks like this.
Many many moons ago I worked with “mentally retarded” adults, who had none of the so-called social skills and who didn’t know anything of grooming — needed much cleaning and nose-wiping, etc. etc. This was not the same thing as your work, but it was, as you say, life-changing. I found there was nothing about them to be “afraid” of, not at all. It was a joyfully humbling experience to learn from them about their lives and their world. And like people who do home health care (those who love their work, I mean), who change diapers, who listen to whatever the patient wants and needs to talk about, even if it makes no “sense” — there really is a profound sense of we are all truly and fully human, in all our frailty — and this we share.
Well, good night, all. Must go wake Mr. K8 who fell asleep on the couch and will get a crick in his neck if I don’t move him to the more comfortable bed.

Please excuse me for piggy-backing on your post, but I have a question that seems to me linguistic in nature, and maybe also sociological. Or maybe sexual politics.
I am puzzled by the following verbs:
To get fucked
To get screwed
To get laid
Now, IIRC, these all refer back to coitus, don’t they? And last I knew, coitus is often, or maybe even usually, a pleasurable experience. But the connotation of getting fucked or getting screwed is negative, isn’t it? And IIRC, for some reason, I hear men using those verbs more often than women. I’d like to know if that’s the general experience, or whether I’m living in some kind of cocoon.
On the other hand, to get laid has a positive connotation, doesn’t it? And it seems to me that I’ve mostly heard men use that verb, too.
All three are passive constructions: the implicit sex is being done to the subject. Which makes it even odder to me that I hear men bemoaning getting fucked or screwed more often than I hear women offering a similar complaint. Too bad TRex has gone to bed; maybe he could explain this to me.
So what’s the difference? And What kind of fuckery is this???

They are either full-blown POWs entitled to all the protections of the Geneva Accords and Treaty Against Torture and Inhumane Treatment OR they are criminals entitled to the full protections under the criminal justice system – which also includes the Treaty Against Torture and Inhumane Treatment, by the way. Period. End of story.) On the otherhand, I am hoping that a large part of the seeming acceptance of torture is a result of a poorly-worded question about a highly unlikely situation: really, in how many circumstances will you be able to save the life of a fellow soldier by torturing someone? But under the hardships of LONG combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, I can understand how emotion might get the better of troops when asked a stupid question. I hope that the percentage would drop by at least 50% if the question were “properly” constructed…but that is just my hope.
I, for one, would not tolerate ANY abuse, period, beyond that inherent in a violent capture situation. It isn’t police work, it is combat, afterall, but that doesn’t excuse torture under any circumstance…
Good luck. Latest reports have it that Vista is buggy as hell. Even worse than the usual Windows “rush it into production before we debug” offerings.
I installed it and, for windows, I actually like it. Now, that is saying a LOT because I am a hardcore linux user. I ONLY fire up winders for a few games, now and then, when they wont run under linux. I do have a gig of ram and it is a 64-bit athlon (now dual core).
I COULDN’T go to XP in any case and was stuck with winders 2000 so I waited as long as I could and then tried Vista (XP didn’t like, apparently, that I had linux installed on another partition and so refused to even TRY to install and there was NO WAY I was removing my workhorse OS for a toy OS.
In any case, there are differences in UI that take a bit of getting used to: IE lacks many of the buttons/icons on its menu bars so it gets to be challenging at first to figure out how to navigate. The menus in the start menu are different and take a bit of getting used to.
Other than that, I’m pleased with it AND unlike with winders 2000 (so far at least) I haven’t had any problems with viruses (I don’t do email under winders) or popups or spybots, etc. With 2000 if I was on the net for any significant length of time, it was spyware and virus city baby! Updates or no.
Actually, that’s the best I’ve ever seen her look!
I think she should take a job cleaning motel rooms instead of living off daddy’s money from owning them.
That’s how I paid for pizzas, clothing, entertainment and various sundries all through high school.
Scrubbing shit out of toilets, pubic hairs out of tubs, washing towels, changing sheets on countless beds and having your hands cramp up until you thought they’d stay that way, builds character.
I’ve often told my students that poverty was my biggest advantage in life………and I meant it!!
Hey, Hilton………you really want to get your shit together, stop shopping and start volunteering for a real charity……….Habitat for Humanity comes to mind, OR call me, I’ll set you straight.
Paris is gaining the creditabilty she needs to be one of Faux news pundits. GWB pardon Paris Now — Save Us from this.
Karmageddon!!!
I fuckin’ love this pace!
Screw the judge. If I had her money I’d skip the state and move to New York or Miami. There’s plenty of partying to be done in either of those towns. In the meantime she can hire an army of private investigators to find that one dirty little secret the judge has that will end his career. There’s no point in having the money if you can’t use it to fight the jackasses in the black robes who think they’re royalty. I’m with the rich kid on this one. Screw the judge. I’ve never met one I respected, they are the biggest whores in a corrupt legal system.

What is weird is that you can’t see her private parts.
