Oh, sorry, forgot I would have to endure Chris Matthews gushing about the Reagan Library. Perhaps I can tune after he’s done “jizzing in his lap,” to quote TRex.

OT: Is anyone going to watch the Republican debates tonight? At first, my reaction was “barf” but then I got to thinking it might be enjoyable to see what a sorry line-up the Publicans have and watch them go at each other.

emptywheel @

rwcole @
236

Sligo is it? What a beautiful place!!!

That’s what mr. emptywheel says. We were thinking about Galway (or Tuam, just outside, where his dad grew up). But Sligo is the right size for mr. emptywheel, I think.

Now, I have to pick an Irish party.

Sligo is definitely beautiful but so is Dunnegal with its town square (with 3 sides) and the wild hinterland for hillwalking etc., Ireland’s largest fishing port is close by. Galway has gotten to be incredibly expensive to live in and housing is through the roof there. Both Sligo and Galway have train service to Dublin for the day trip to the capital for retail therapy (as needed) as well as established national Theater groups. Galway is more the tourist attractor and has a buzz from that source as well as the attendant problems. Also consider the Dingle and West Cork areas of the southwest as well for incredible beauty.

For political parties, Ireland may have an answer for the 50 counties over, a plethora of parties, no one party populous enough to prevail without the considered agreement of one or more other parties, forstalling the ready chance that a hidden agenda could be put over on the public by any one party by its onlyself. The voting system is in itself a wonder to behold, and done on paper ballots for all to see.

Should you decide to go, you will find a wonderous place there. All the best……

This is a response to this comment: “People, duh-uh! Comey works for a corporation making oodles of money off the Iraq War, and he’s a Republican. Do you seriously think he’s going to blow the lid on the Bush administration? John Dean, not.” That’s off target and a guilt-by-association attack.

I have known Jim Comey for a long time. He and his wife have a large family with one child in college and another nearing college, true, and they did not disclose any other reasons why he resigned as Deputy Attorney General. For the first time in his life, he can provide comfortably for his family, now that he’s not on a federal pay scale. Just do not conclude that your paycheck source or political affiliation dictates whether you are loyal to the truth and whether you do the right thing.

He’s the real McCoy, an honest, careful, fair, and public-spirited human being. We should all try to be more like him.

lhp at 241.

But where would we find a skilled trial lawyer who knew enough about the ins and outs of the case to ask the right questions?

Oh.

Wait, don’t tell me…

Comey should give up more than he’s giving or urge contacts forward. Goodling and Sampson were at the DOJ when he was. Surely they did not pull all these names out of a hat as soon as he left. He must have had at least some intimation of what was going on. Until we know who made the list, and whether or not the WH violated that Hatch act, we’re in a sore place as a country and many of us don’t have an ounce of trust for the politicized DoJ. It is not enough to sit around and praise the fired attorneys. I myself so nothing to respect in his testimony, except for his loyalty to his fired colleagues.

“… Steve Biskupic, people are questioning his prosecutions.”

While (the Vet) Roberts was appealing the decision through the VA channels and was set to appeal to the VA Appeals Court—the US Court of Appeals for Veteran’s Claims in Washington D.C.—empowered by federal statute to hear the case, the United States Department of Justice, in the office of the US Atty for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Steven Biskupic, indicted Roberts in April 2005 on six counts of mail fraud.

A Disabled Vet who filed “fraud claims” against the VA was then prosecuted and imprisoned thanks to Biskupic:

….No investigative agent from the Treasury Department, Secret Service or FBI investigated the allegations of federal mail or wire fraud against Roberts.

How do you “get the Genie back in the bottle”? You make people accountable, that’s how. Screw these Victorian badminton games. Damn the Parlimentary grab ass.

These are the same bastards empowered with, among other things, the ability to condemn people to death.

Time to cut the crap.
