May 13, 2007 — Great Silent Grandmother Gathering

Inspired by Sharon Mehdi’s children’s picture book, The Great Silent Grandmother Gathering, a group of women in Ohio has issued a call for women all over the world to stand silently for 5 minutes at 1 p.m. local time on May 13, 2007 — to save the world. Someone’s gotta be the adult here… might as well be a grandma!

Not sure how old you are, but let me inform you that there are MEN and women in their forties who are grandparents…….what’ the bid deal? She’s a vital, intelligent, good-looking woman. Does anyone ever call the men in powerful position grandpa when they refer to them????

Pelosi’s speaking skills seem to have soared since her first somewhat tentative appearances as Whip. These days she exudes confidence.

Now, somebody should tell her colleagues to knock off putting an arm around her shoulder in front of the camera. It smacks of patronization and diminishes her appearance of personal power.

It was *maybe* understandable during the celebratory events when she first took office, but I saw someone (Hoyer?)do it again last week in front of a mike. She needs political support, not physical support. I read it as passive aggressive – not unlike the Merkel back-rub, just lower on the egregiousness scale.

If it was Hoyer, that wouldn’t surprise me. The prick’s been working to undermine her for years, apparently.

Yes, there are technical ways to do this but it is not likely to be done on a wide scale unless there is some particular reason to do so like “theft of service” as mentioned above etc. Requires resources etc.
