Hi, lhp. Love your name, but what does it mean? And what does time mean, anyway? (now I need to go back and find that “federal prosecutor” post)

A looseheadprop is a rugby position in the front row of the scrum. The LHP has the ability, if desired

Um. A collapsed scrum already sounds like a catostrophic injury…

(I know nothing about rugby) :)

FYI: The clip was shot in 3-D, but the trend was over so Kiss Me, Kate came out regularly.

We do a Cole Porter show here in Peru, Indiana each year for his birthday. His birthplace is being opened this year as a bed and breakfast on June 8th.

The show this year is called “Cup O’ Cole” and takes place during an episode of a morning show like “The Today Show.” The weather forecast? “Too Darn Hot.”

More information than anyone cares about on an old thread, but I thought I’d toss it in.

In the stage version of Kiss Me, Kate, this number is performed by the stage hands, etc at the beginning of the show. In the movie version, they decided to make it the scene where Ann Miller auditions for the show in Howard Keel’s apartment…and brings her own combo with her. No, it doesn’t make much sense, but it’s a great show.

You don’t like musicals?!?!

TRex, you’re about to have you Gay Card rescinded!

What’s happening in the scene is that for reasons best known to Jack Cummings, Kiss Me Kate is framed as a movie audition in which the “Too Darn Hot” number — as performed by the great Ann Miller is being performed for someone identified as “Cole Porter” who neither looks or acts anything like the real Cole Porter.

Fosse did his own choreogrphy in the segment of the “From This Moment On” number he dances with carol Haney. ALL of Fosse can be seen in this number in embryonic form.

Kiss Me Kate was originally released in 3-D.

Speaking of Judy Garland, there is an exciting new group on Yahoo called The Judy Garland Experience. The group features amazingly rare audio treasures, great photo’s, lively discussions, and just about the greatest membership a group can have. This week we are featuring rare files of Judy performing in Long Beach with The Rat Pack, as well as an ultra rare interview with Judy, unreleased tracks of Sinatra at Carnegie Hall, and some other odds and ends (including both of Judy’s songs from Valley Of The Dolls).
The group consists of fans of all levels, Garland family members, historians, authors of books on Judy, other entertainers, filmakers, and more. The only thing missing is you!
So, please check out our little Judyville, once you visit us you might never want to leave.

Kiss me Kate scoffers ought to take a look at the whole movie - it’s great fun.

By the way, the blonde woman on the couch in the clip is the ex-wife of the man to her right - he’s the boyfriend of the woman in red in the clip.

The musical was also revived on Broadway not too long ago, and here is the musical’s version (not the movie version) of It’s Too Darn Hot from the Tony Awards:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MLbk7UeWfI

“Nearly all of Porter’s rather risque lyrics had to be “cleaned up” to avoid the wrath of the censors, thus dulling much of the comedy and making the results rather bland. “Brush Up Your Shakespeare”, the most suggestive song in the score, was cut in half to avoid its raciest lyrics, and the song “Too Darn Hot,” also sanitized, was changed from a number performed by several African-American singers to a tap routine for Ann Miller.”

“Brush Up Your Shakespeare”, from the movie:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-CSb3Xe06s
The DVD has a great bit on how those two (non-singing, non-dancing) actors had to rehearse for this number.

NZ Expat, now in KS @
228

Hey, lhp, thanks for the explanation. I don’t know much about rugby, but did get hooked on the All Blacks when down in NZ. Richie McCoy? Daniel Carter? Very much worth watching.

Then I come back to find out that, even with the Sports Channel, I can’t see the World Cup here in KS? This won’t do.

A quick Google search is likely to find you some pay-per-view streaming video. I was able to watch last year’s Ashes and this year’s cricket World Cup on a site called willow.tv. My beef with willow.tv is that it only works on real Wintel machines — I have XP installed on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp, and while it will connect, the video comes through with all of the colors reversed, like looking at the color film negatives. Unwatchable.
