Originally, I was going to put up a YouTube of the Exploited doing "F*ck the USA", but I thought maybe Sean "Squeaky" Hannity's fans who might be stopping through would get the wrong idea.
Instead, I offer you three intoxicating minutes of Annie.
Good night.

TRex!!
Hi Alicia
‘night TRex. *waves and yawns*
drooling. loves me some annie. thanks big guy
lolo @ 4
Hi lolo!
Lennox your ears!
Annie definitely rocks. Good choice, TRex.
Guitar Playing Bastard should be along shortly to tell me that my taste in music sucks.
TRex @ 11
Tell him he sucks.
Murray Waas!!
Annie Lennox was definitely an acquired taste for me as well, but I did eventually get it.
Trex – do you need a date? Give me a little more time with Helen’s hubby and he’s yours.
Is anyone watching Colbert? He’s busting on Mr. Friedman Unit.
Good video choice, Trex!
I was so proud of Jane and firedoglake when I watched Hannity yakking as if he knew what the fuck he was talking about on that clip Jane ran this morning. We’re not just running over trash like Imus and Hannity. They’re making such a teeny thump as we drive on that normal potholes seem more worrisome.
Anybody see Dorgan’s Halliburton hearing on C-SPAN today? I caught a glimpse. Apparently, Cheney is making millions off of trading with the Iranians through an offshore subsidiary of Halliburton. Which consists of an empty room and automated PO box in the Cayman Islands.
Patrick 4/4 @ 15
Have you told Helen that you’re trying to give away her husband?
So much for Sampson’s “Aggregator” Myth
by emptywheel
I love when Murray’s been quiet for a long time, because it means his next story will be a doozy. And this one doesn’t disappoint. The actual jist of the story–that Alberto Gonzales delegated all authority for hiring and firing of political appoints to Monica Goodling and Kyle Sampson–doesn’t surprise me. The delegation of authority, thereby providing top Bush allies like Cheney and Gonzales with plausible deniability even while allowing a program clearly bordering on (if not passing into) illegal territory, is something that has been going on for some time. There is a twist here–by delegating this authority, Gonzales also allowed the process to be taken over by the White House.
A senior Justice Department official, who did not know of Gonzales’s delegation of authority until contacted by National Journal, said that it posed a serious threat to the integrity of the criminal-justice system because it gave Sampson, Goodling, and the White House control over the hiring of senior officials in the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, which oversees all politically sensitive public corruption cases, at the same time that they held authority to hire and fire U.S. attorneys.
“If you are controlling who is going to be a U.S. attorney and who isn’t going to be,… firing them outside the traditional process… and the same people are deciding who are going to be their supervisors back in Washington… there is too much of a potential for mischief, for abuse,” the official said. [my emphasis]
I’m most fascinated by the way this is going to change the tenor of the USA scandal.
The lawyers for Goodling and Sampson are in a bit of panic mode. Goodling’s lawyer John Dowd is just spewing BS.
John Dowd, an attorney for Goodling, said in an interview that it was “absolutely untrue” that his client was ever delegated the authority outlined in the confidential March 1, 2006 order signed by the attorney general. “She had no authority,” Dowd said, “My God, she was an assistant to the chief of staff to the attorney general. She was an assistant to the assistant.”
Dowd’s probably thanking his lucky stars that Monica’s immunity deal hasn’t quite gone through, so she didn’t perjure herself about this stuff already.
Whereas Brad Berenson, the attorney now specializing in firewalls, got awfully silent.
An attorney for Sampson, Brad Berenson, said that his client was not available for comment for this story
Well, Firepups, I’m going to crawl off to bed with the kitties. I still have that monstrous pile of term papers awaiting me in the morning (incrementally smaller than yesterday, but still monumental). Night all!
Patrick 4/4, you are really on a roll tonight! Wanna talk about your mom with your friends?

Ed*ard,
My trombone-playing son, who spent the first two years of college majoring in Astrophysics and then BioChem, (while playing in the UC WInd Ensemble) has decided to make a big change. He breezes through math and science, but he’s decided to switch his major to Music Education and teach at the middle school level. Wants to put instruments in kids’ hands and change their lives! Knows he won’t make the money he could in biotech, but man, am I happy for him!
I’m afraid I am going to need some photos of that before I can make an informed decision about whether I’m going to take him off Patrick’s hands.

Shall I wake him up and ask him? Ask him about Patrick’s hands? Ask him if he would like to have a “relationship” with you TRex? I am sure he’ll be thrilled that we are talking about him like this.

I’ve been dogging that tainted pet food story for weeks. People who don’t seem to get what a big deal it is should read today NYTimes or this FDA release
4/27/07, IMPORT ALERT #99-29, “DETENTION WITHOUT PHYSICAL EXAMINATION OF ALL VEGETABLE PROTEIN PRODUCTS FROM CHINA FOR ANIMAL OR HUMAN FOOD USE DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF MELAMINE AND/OR MELAMINE ANALOGS” (Link)
Don’t like to pick on the Bush Administration or anything, but they love their self regulated industries and hate government agencies that they can’t get money out of. They used politics to ban Plan B and the top official left the FDA in 2005 because politics trumped science.
This crisis was the FDAs FEMA moment. I’m glad they finally took some bold action. We’ll see what China’s response is.
“Hey American if you want us to keep buying your debt, keep letting us sell you tainted pet food.”

Anyone watching Anderson Cooper right about 10 minutes ago? Larry Johnson just called Tenet a lying bastard. Said Tenet had blood on his hands too.
to all the people here who dumped on Jason Leopold over and over about his so-called flawed stories on the plame case you should know that George Tenet’s book confirms all of Leopold’s reporting on prewar intelligence and all the stuff that went on behind the scenes.
and then there is this story in tomorrow’s NYT about Halliburton and Iran. Another story Leopold broke two years ago and won an award for. I think Leopold deserves a second look from the people who thre him under the bus

This might seem funny, but for anyone here that is, or sleeps with a “snorer,” I highly recommend this program:
http://www.ijustwanttosleep.com
It’s all about muscle memory and tongue placement (get yer mind outta the gutter!), and is just simply exercises for your tongue that will stop snoring in 94% of the people that follow it through. Nothing medical about it. I wonder how many marriages it could save.
I have no connection to this program at all. Just a very satisfied customer.

I think Tenet took a while because he wasn’t sure who to blame in his book. With the info he had, he had a number of ways he could go. Obviously, he decided not to blame Bush, and to blame Cheney. That’s OK by me. The more dirt we can get on Cheney, the better.
Bob in HI
portia-in-time @ 86
I think the objection to Leopold is the Rove indictment that wasn’t. It didn’t pan out and Leopold didn’t admit a mistake or that he got hosed – and being hosed didn’t burn his bogus anonymous source. It rankled quite a few people who are concerned (read FDL) with accuracy, especially on the Plame story.
There’s some healthy skepticism of Leopold as a reuslt.

Annie Lennox in Central Park is a great double CD. the second disc is a studio gig. Paul Simon does backup on “You Calmed Me Down” (which he wrote). Me an’ Annie go back to vinyl, which i still have. I’m for an Annie Lennox tribute CD. George Thoroughgood could cover “Sweet Dreams Are Made of This”. Maybe GPB could get with that program …….

We’ve been over this before. We don’t know the full story yet. The lynch mob is convinced that we have all the facts, but we don’t. I’m convinced that something unexpected happened at the last moment.
For example, consider this interesting theory. I don’t bring up Citizen Spook’s theory as proof, but as an indication of the kinds of legal trickery that can be involved. I’m convinced that Leopold hasn’t recanted because he thinks there’s a sense in which he was right, but that it wasn’t rolled out in the way he was expecting. And for some reason he’s not at liberty to reveal what happened.

ok folks, that’s it. my brain is fried for the evening. g’nite all.
An abortion story unfolding in Ireland: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/5/1/5722/84893
Good morning, pups. In the NYT today guest columnist Dr. Atul Gawande writes on the power of negative thinking, and Nicholas Kristof re-asks W’s question “Is our children learning?”
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
Coffee and tea are all ready, and the biscuits just came out of the oven. Help yourselves, and Happy May Day.
Good morning, firepups! A glorious sunny day here in western Maine. Still too cold to set out the tomatoes, even with the Walls-O-Water.
Mr. Ixnay and I have been married for 25 years as of today, so I’m hoping for all good news.
I never seem to have anything of substance to say, but my posting times are generally too early in the morning to crank up much outrage. That said, the Ireland abortion link above makes me incredibly afraid for the women of our country of child-bearing age: how long before the forced-birth crowd succeeds in making that the usual scenario here?
Happy anniversary, Ixnay! I hope you and Mr. Ixnay have a wonderful day, and lots more wonderful years together.
I’d send you some of our heat, if I could. It’s gotten warm enough here that my lettuce has started to bolt.
MiS – do you shade your lettuce?
Thank you for the kind wishes.
Ixnay, no shade for the poor things. I’ve got contructively no trees except on the east side of the house. The amount of sun is fine for the herbs, and the other veggies seem to do well (although even the tomatoes slow down in the worst of the summer heat), but the lettuces will just have to be re-started in September or October, and I’ll probably have them almost all winter long.
Hi ixnay, and Happy Anniversary!! This one comes with a silver lining. Many more.
Thank you, bluejeansntshirt!
Marion, up here we have longer days than you do, tho not usually as hot. I have been known to make lattice shade thingees for my lettuce.
Now if I can just catch that darned woodchuck! Don’t think he’d eat melamine (now there’s another source of outrage, especially for a vet: why on earth are we buying animal feed components from China?).
Good morning.
Happy 25th ixnay!
