(Reader Gordon sent me this shot of a bald eagle, with a note saying that he hopes that this is what "the Conyers and Waxman committees will do….observe with an eagle eye.")
Here's the Sunday Talking Head line-up (Some via the Arizona Daily Star.)
C-Span's "Washington Journal" — 7:45am – Mike Glover, Associated Press, Chief Political Writer; 8:30am – Newspaper Articles & Viewer Calls; 9am – Said Hakki, Iraqi Red Crescent, President; 9:30am – James Collins, Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia (1997-2001).
ABC's "This Week" — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; Sens. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., and Sam Brownback, R-Kan., presidential candidate; actress Natalie Portman.
CBS' "Face the Nation" — Rice; Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa.
NBC's "Meet the Press" — Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., presidential candidate.
CNN's "Late Edition" — Rice; Reps. Adam Putnam, R-Fla., and Jane Harman, D-Calif.; Hoshyar Zebari, Iraqi foreign minister; European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
"Fox News Sunday" — Presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and wife Cindy McCain.
Don't know about you, but it's an awful lot of Condi Rice to deal with first thing in the morning. I'm going to need way more coffee…although I'm sure hanging out in the Green Room with Jack Murtha will do wonders for her, too, today. Will Blitzer ask Adam Putnam about his comment that AG Gonzales should resign? That could make for a fun interview moment with the Representative from Howdy Doody.
Somehow, today seems like a good morning to go out for breakfast. How is everyone else doing this morning? Anything catching your eye in the news or on the blogs?

Who could have imagined that Condi would be all over the Sunday talk shows — yet unavailable for Henry.
Mornin’, Ma’am,
Thanks again for all you and Jane do.
Natalie Portman is running for President?
So has Russert fallen out of favor? No Rice
fahrender at 2 — Thanks for the thanks. *g*
My daughter takes her First Communion today.
Guess I will have to miss this quality entertainment.
I was making my way thought the blogs this morning when I saw your post at C&L. That double shot of espresso has gotten me motivated to get of my butt and make my way out the door to enjoy breakfast, a latte and great weather.
Today is going to be a no TV day. I’m not going to let a bunch of Politicians and “journalists” lying on TV ruin my day.
I hope everyone has a great day.
more and more people around the country are talking about impeachment. more crime and corruption and illegalities keep popping up. more bad smells oozing out of the woodwork …….
one of these days ……
Good morning Christy!
Interesting that Rice can find all kinds of time to go on the Sunday morning shows, but can’t be bothered to respond to a subpoena.
retirin’ in five @

It’s crazy, right? She has plenty of time to go to ABC, but no time for Congress. It’s like Bush who had plenty of time to pick scrub brush on his ranch, but no time to answer questions for the 9/11 commission. I guess ABC is going to be soft on her. Wonder if she’ll defend Tobais’ use of prostitutes for massages, as in “What Tobais did was completely appropriate for someone in a high profile and stressful job. He needed to relax. The press is blowing, no pun intended, this up. It’s not as if he was raping pages in Congress.”
Rice will lie her ass off and same essentially nothing new… but she won’t tell the truth to an oversight committee.. and she probably won’t go without a subpoena.
These people are without shame.
If there is a dog in heaven he will aim some of his lighting strikes and put the rest of is out of this misery.
retirin’ in five @ 1
me
No hard questions and no follow ups and they always except BS for “answers”.
These shows are a waste of time.
I second Gordon’s hope for this type of oversight.
OT to eg — sorry pups.
Eg — I’m too lazy to google this early in the morning. Isn’t Vienna, VA that little burg just southerly down the main drag through Ft. Belvoir?
I know there are a bunch of folks reading but not posting a comment this morning. Why not step into the comments and introduce yourself this morning? Come on in, the water’s fine…and we’re always happy to welcome some new voices.
Morning — have another cuppa and say howdy!
defJef @ 12
I’ve said this here before, but I really think that Condi is the best liar of all the Bushies. She raises it to an art form. She doesn’t sink to “I don’t recall”. She doesn’t stutter. Oaths mean nothing to her. She really looks like she believes what she’s saying. She better answer that subpoena. She’s just stalling. She’ll go. She loves it.
When we talk of impeachment, let’s maked certain to stress the importance of subsequent trial and conviction.
looseheadprop wrote towards this point.
Had Nixon been tried and convicted, many of our current cast of charecters would have been tarred with the same brush.
The President’s ratings in the opinion poles are not the problem. Unpopularity is not the problem.
This Administration is guilty of some of the most cynical lying, manipulation and exploitation – EVER.
The crimes associated with this behavior must be met with justice under the rule of law or our children will face a rerun.
‘Morning Everybody! I haven’t commented recently because it’s all I can do to try and keep up! But in news other than our corrupt government and endless war, the StarTrib reported something on Monday that has been high on Wiccan’s agenda for quite awhile. (Unfortunately the link is gone)
“MADISON, Wis. — Wiccans will be allowed to have the symbol of their religion placed on grave markers in national cemeteries under a lawsuit settlement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced Monday.
…
There are 11 families nationwide that are waiting for grave markers with the pentacle, said Selena Fox, a Wiccan high priestess with Circle Sanctuary in Barneveld, Wis., and a party to the lawsuit.
…
The VA sought the settlement in the interest of the families involved and to save taxpayers the expense of further litigation, VA spokesman Matt Burns said. Under the settlement, the VA agreed to pay $225,000
in attorneys’ fees and costs.”
We have been fighting this battle for quite a while and this is a significant win. Congrats to Selena and the other parties to the law suit, and to all of the Wiccan community.

Actually, Vienna is west of DC along RT66. If your familiar with the METRO system, it’s the last stop on the orange line going into Virginia.
retirin’ in five @ 16
Actually we are to the west of DC between McLean and Fairfax City.
‘Tis a lovely town with terrific community spirit, a feeling that we belong to each other.
wow condi on 3 stations but can not testify do to her busy schedule……..hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Just to add some perspective to my previous post – from the same article:
“The pentacle joins 38 religious symbols the VA already permits on gravestones. They include commonly recognized symbols for Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism, as well as those for smaller religions such as Sufism Reoriented, Eckiankar and the Japanese faith Seicho-No-Ie.”
There’s plenty of bad Bush news in the papers today. Katrina donations got thrown away. Iraq reconstruction is falling apart (didn’t we stop funding reconstruction last year?) Tobais’s hooker problems look likely to spread to other members of the Repug party. Bush is getting some slack for trying to cut out the lawyers at Gitmo.
Your dose of New Orleans – something good for a change
http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/f…..thispage=1
Eg — “…familiar with the METRO system…”. Not at all. It was forty years ago, and quite apparently, my “flawless” memory was wrong. Thanks.
Doesn’t McCain realize it’s over?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 5
You’re most welcome. When the history of this country in the 21st century is written, George W. Bush and pretty much his entire administration will not be treated kindly. What you have done, and have helped others to do, will be.
What is going on now is more important than Watergate. In 1974 the MSM hadn’t all pulled down their pants and spread their legs. I know. I was there.
Morning Christy,
The heck with the talk shows.
It’s a beautiful morning here in Tennessee. I saw a couple of Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks on the feeder yesterday, as well as an Indigo Bunting, and the usual Goldfinches, House Finches, Downy Woodpeckers, Titmice & Chickadees. Oh, and my first Hummingbird.
The Grosbeak was the real surprise though; they are’t native to this area — just passing through on the way north, I suppose.
Apparently the women who worked as the prostitutes were people who worked regular jobs and did this on the side.
Tired. Going to be a slow day. Always entertaining watching the administration squirm – been a long time coming
cathy @ 31
Apparently they had college degrees too.
Deacon—
What kind of little bird would have a white head, light gray breast, and brown feathers with darker brown slashes running toward the tail?
As if there isn’t enough to depress us, this diary on DKOS yesterday caught my weary eye. And then this one today just makes my head spin, as it ironically piggybacks off of the first diary. It’s difficult not to feel that his country has reached a critical mass of insanity.
Not to be simply redundant here but I sure hope the first question to Candi is: “How were you able to make time in your busy schedule to appear here when you do not have any time to appear before congress?”
Georgesimian @ 33
Well educated, and moonlighting. Some of them may have had day jobs on K Street.
I thought Condi’s excuse for not appearing before Congress was that she had already told them everything and she didn’t want to repeat herself.
CocoaBeach @

He stood up to them.
Ah, be good. I will go for some reliable news, interpersed with commentary from thoughtful observers today.
In other words, I’ll dip into the lake from time to time, but no tv.
It is my birthday and I will celebrate with a long walk in the country, followed by brunch prepared at whatever hour my exhausted daughter (about three research papers from university graduation) and my teenage son, who went to the prom last night, are ready to arise. He’s a fantastic cook and it will be worth waiting for.
So, brunch may be at 4 this afternoon and that is just fine and dandy. The meadowlark and the redwing blackbird are singing and I’m going to be the audience.
There are plenty of educated upscale type women who work in “houses of domination” for kinky “services”.. a la what Dick Morris was hot for… toe sucking, boot licking S&M, bondage, cross dressing games and the list of kinks goes on and on. Most of these activities do not involve sex… that is penetrative sex except with a “inanimate object”.
The clients get off of course.. and the women get to dress up and play roles… and don’t feel like they are “having sex” for pay… hookers. The entire pay for play in the kinky sex world looks down on prostitutes, call girls and hookers and many think of themselves as something akin to a “therapist”… it’s hard work and someone has to do it. The clothes are great as is the pay… as long as no one knows at your day job… school teacher by day.. domiatrix by night. hahaha
Christy Hardin Smith @ 17
Hi Christy!
I’m in Chicago where we’re expecting 80 degrees today. First off, I appreciate your writing style. I linked to FDL during the Libby trial, learned of Jane’s compelling story, bought Marcy’s book, and am hooked on Trex’s outrageousness.
Along with TPM, this site and it’s comments keep me informed of the IMPORTANT stuff.
It’s too early yet to fire up the grill, but there’s a barbeque on today’s to-do list.
You guys feel like friends. ;)
Condoleeza Condoleeza
Dems have blamed you
For you always seem to
speak with fork-ed tongue
When you’re standing in the War Room, Condoleeza
Do you care about our daughters and our sons?
When you called George Bush your husband, Condoleeza
Were you trying to drive a stake through Laura’s heart?
You’re the girl who dragged
His Quagmire through the Congress
Thousands died there
‘Cause you lied there
We all know you’re not for real, Condoleeza
You’re just a brat who
wants to tear the world apart…

Welcome hwmnbn!
Hope to hear from you often, now that you are in print. I don’t know if you are new or not, but we haven’t met yet. Nice to make your acquaintance.
Sunday afternoon here in Germany, was shocked to see about Goodling’s email last night, am surprised to not see anyone really writing more about it.
I can’t believe that this is called a “partisan hunting expedition”. Monica Lewinsky cost 40 million dollars. You gotta be kidding me.
It is about taking back the Constitution and holding it in esteem again.
Maybe Condi would be spending her time better by figuring out who actually represents the Saudi government, since BFF Bandar Bush seems to have left the reservation.
TPM has a good video of Bill Moyers interviewing Josh Marshall on the Justice Dept. fiasco thus far.
Mack @ 19
we do need to try to convict them. however, we should not shirk from impeachment as a process. timing is important. the window of opportunity will close. George needs to be held accountable for once in his life. Cheney as well.
NZexpat—
Happy birthday to you!
Hope it’s a good one.

egregious @ 34
It’s hard to say without seeing, egregious, but looking at my Peterson Guide, it’s probably either a warbler or some kind of finch — probably a finch, since they come closer to houses.
Hi Christy…
wasn’t it ABC that was pushing that bogus 9-11 “documdrama”…
I wonder what they are up to now?
Thanks, egregious. Hope you are having a good day too. Did you take your walk already?
These out of balance times require that someone keeps their balance….just so we know what it looks like when we come out of the chaos (which I finally have the hope of it happening). So the walks, the music, the community are part of keeping the balance.
CHS – thanks for the post on women’s shelters yesterday. You have to know and believe that what you are writing reverberates in many who aren’t commenting. And some of us take a bit longer to reflect and then direct our energies. But you are a big, big part of my balancing act. Thanks again.
Christy -
Good morning – I haven’t checked the late night threads to see whether this ThinkProgress post has been mentioned in those threads:
ABC’s Ross: DC Madam’s List Includes White House & Pentagon Officials, Prominent Lawyers
I just googled “biden bankruptcy”; if you want a President who’s going to protect the financial/credit-card industry against all those predators who are suffering from medical crises, job loss or divorce, not to mention Katrina survivors and their ilk, Joe’s your man!
Oh, and don’t forget those Guard and Reserve troops whose service in Iraq has thrown their family finances for a loop – exemptions for them would just be stealing money from all of Joe’s generous backers…
I’m going to watch Face the Nation and hopefully (though I really doubt it) she will be on the same time as Murtha. That’s almost a reason to invent a breakfast popcorn.
As usual, apropos of nothing… at my favorite bar in all the world (La Fourmi Rouge on les pentes de la Croix Rousse, Lyon), one can order what we call a “Corsair” – a shot of espresso with a shot of rum! I find it is the perfect antidote for Condilemia and other Sunday morning ills…
Once I learned the value of the Corsair, I stretched myself, and tried a shot of espresso with a (small) shot of Chartreuse, and found it simply magical!
Out to breakfast? Looks like I’m having the pancakes in that case. I always burn them when I attempt to cook ‘em.
The Philly Impeachment Rally and Parade was a success yesterday. Around 120-200 people showed up. I wore a sign that said Have You Seen My Constitution Lately?
The speakers stayed on message for the most part. It was a good first step in priming the pump so to speak.

As you say, the money is very, very good, and don’t forget — you’re the boss!
Tom Friedman @ 48
Yes – both the Marshall interview and Moyers’ interview with Jon Stewart are terrific!
Crooks and Liars has a C-SPAN video clip of William Kristol listening to a heart-wrenching call from a military wife who shares the impact the war in Iraq is having on military families and pleads for reinstatement of the draft for relief.
“Grand strategist” Tom Barnett’s latest article is up on the Esquire website.
Redd: Don’t know about you, but it’s an awful lot of Condi Rice to deal with first thing in the morning. I’m going to need way more coffee…
Strong coffee.
No thanks, I think I’ll watch Natalie Portman.
Frank Rich’s column today in the New York Times is beautifully stated concerning the MSM’s complicity in allowing this country to become Bushworld. He even gets a dig in at David Broder! Just lovin’ it, along with my morning coffee, granola, sunshine and a mild hangover that was well worth it.
On THIS WEEK, George is going after CONDI about the 16 words. She saying she has already responded and the issue has already been investigated many times.
Q:”Why not comply with the subpeona?”
A: Sepzration of powers.
Before that he went after her about whether there was a thorough debate about the “immenent threat” posed by Saddam.
Hello everybody.. I just wanted to “de-lurk” briefly to say what a great site this is… I am enjoying watch stories as they break in real time, and really appreciate the timely background and analysis available here. Thankyou (everyone)for your contributions..

These fools have left a trail five miles wide and committed crimes too numerous to count. They dare not leave office without plenary presidential pardons like the one that Ford gave Nixon: “I, Gerald R. Ford … do grant a full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from July (January) 20, 1969 through August 9, 1974.”
They’ve surely given thought to a maneuver where Bush pardons Cheney and resigns, and then Cheney pardons Bush. But, per the Consitution, a president’s power to pardon does not extend to “cases of impeachment,” whatever that means. So, BushCo have also taken steps to facilitate staying in power beyond 2008 by means outside the Constitution. The full list of such measures is too long to recount, but Namomi Wolf has pretty good coverage here.
Interesting… No George Tenet
One would think he would be on all the talking head shows. “Main Stream” kowtowing to the Bushies again?
GreyGhost @ 69
He can’t until after the 60 minutes gig
Feingold @ Rice: I am stunned that she never responded to the will of the American people.
I’m just amazed that this administration has such disregard for the will of the American people.
Deacon, thanks for the bird update. NZ, Re did I get my walk, how about all the way over to the coffee pot, does that count? Works better in the afternoon for a variety of reasons.
Mae @ 67
Yes the canine’s look like the points have been filled down.
GreyGhost @ 69
No one wants a rotting corpse stinking up their talk show.
Millineryman @ 73
I meant the space in the middle
The only time Condi goes on national TV is to lie, obscure, dissemble and distract.
George slaps down Brownback on his silly idea to have Condi broker the Iraqi domestic political dispute and civil war.
Feingold says the war funding bill is not about politics, it is about doing the right thing and holding the President accountable to the will of the American people.
I love this from the Brian Ross link….
ROSS: Well, David, I talked to him one day before he resigned and told him that we had found his name and personal phone number on a list of clients of the so-called DC Madam’s escort service in Washington. And what he told me was that he in fact had been a customer of the service, but that he had not had sex. He had had what he called gals come over to his condo to give him a massage. He claimed there was no sex but that he was stunned by the fact that we were aware he was a client and that was his conversation. I asked him if he knew any of the young women, their names. He said he didn’t remember them at all. He said it was like ordering pizza.

Paul Begala has a post over at HuffPo where he calls Broder a “gasbag.” He posted this on Thursday, and it already appears in the entry on Broder in the Wikipedia.
GreyGhost at 69 – I think Tenet is scheduled for a 60 Minutes interview this evening — so he likely had an exclusive with them for today, and then will do the morning shows tomorrow. That’s my guess, anyway.
Mae-I kinda thought that’s what you meant I just could resist.
Off to get some pancakes, thanks for the suggestion about breakfast Christy.

Although George didn’t really push Dr. Lice as far as I wanted (he didn’t, for example, ask her anything about RANDALL TOBIAS), he did go after her a bit regarding the “16 words” in the SOTU.
Dr. Lice resorted to the Classic Bush Administration Dodge on the issue:
Without missing a beat, with that stomach-churning smirk on her face, the good doctor replied:
“Well, George, the fact of the matter is, we just didn’t recall.”
Point. Set. Match.

David Ehrenstein @ 82. Did you see all the great articles Greenwald had up last week about Moyers and Halberstam on journalists and media?
Greenwald puts people like Kristol and Beinart to shame with thorough and substantive analysis instead of advocacy and cheerleading.
Re talking head shows
As John Stewart told Moyers, they all know this is just for show. There are only talking points and counter talking points. The hosts do not investigate or follow up.
A real interview would be Gonzales with Josh Marshall, or Rove with Marcy Wheeler. Now THAT, I’d pay-per-view.

Apropos Sunday talk shows, CNNInternational broadcasts an “international” edition of The Daily Show here once a week and when Blitzer interviewed John Bolton on Late Edition a few weeks ago, it was preceded by about an hour with Jon Stewart’s interview of him! It was so surreal. It made Blitzer’s interview seem even less informative than it otherwise would have.
And a big welcome to everyone who’s de-lurked!

Yeah. The whole admin is going “Go Cheney yourself.” First the surge after Nov 7 indicated otherwise. Gonzo’s ongoing harddrive crash. Drilling offshore, Alaska, etc. And Ms Rices’ disinclination to appear for testimony.

All this time, he could have contributed to the debate, but he sits on it until the big publishing payday. And they all do it. Powell, Clarke to name a few off the top of my head. But here’s an enabler of this wicked war in Iraq, and instead of helping to fix the problem, he signs the book contract and zips his lips.
Sure, I’d like to get that kind of money, but I wouldn’t want to at the cost of so many lives and so much destruction.
well, Condi’s office can, at least, change their response to Waxman from “please see my earlier interview with Gwen Ifil” to “please see my interviews of 4-29-07 for any answers you seek”.

Went to a fundraiser yesterday for Larry Kissell who will run again in NC08 after losing by only 350 votes to Robin Hayes. Rahm Emmanuel was the guest speaker and had lotsa love for Larry. Remember that Rahmbo was not on board with Larry initially and it was the blogs that really pushed him. Rahm said that Gary Trauner is running again in WY. He also said that DNC polling is showing the generic dem up 13 points against the generic repug. If we keep this up we’re looking at another 30 seats in 08.

WASHINGTON — President Bush’s unpopularity and a string of political setbacks have created a toxic climate for the Republican Party, making it harder to raise money and recruit candidates for its drive to retake control of Congress.
Some of the GOP’s top choices to run for the House next year have declined, citing what Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) called a “poisonous” environment. And Republicans’ fundraising edge, an important advantage over the last five years, has dwindled.
With GOP clout diminished after November’s election losses, the Republicans’ national committee and their House and Senate campaign committees together raised the same amount as the Democrats in the first quarter of the year — and Democrats ended the period with more cash in the bank. At this point four years ago, Republicans had more than twice the money Democrats did.

The only way the US can prop up its client regime in Somalia is through lawlessness and slaughter.
Only a political solution will resolve this crisis. Africa must step up to the plate and show spine and leadership in a drive to protect its civilians, and work with Europe and the UN to convince the US to swiftly terminate its latest destabilising adventure.

In the maze of highways that approach the SF-Oakland Bay bridge, a tanker truck hit a support pillar, exploded into fire, and collaped one of the ramps. The driver escaped with 2nd degree burns, and since it happened around 3 AM on a Sunday, no one else was injured. Lots of bridge approaches are closed, and CalTrans is still trying to figure out which ones will be open tomorrow morning.
It’s going be a long couple of months getting this fixed, and I think folks out here will not be too worried about having to watch Condi this AM.
Waccamaw,
That sounds stellar!
I’m a bit of a harvester myself. Nothing like catching/growing/collecting food.

Larry has some real momentum. He surprised a lot of people in NC 08 just by getting so close. Now that he has convinced people that he can win, it’s a whole new ballgame. Larry thinks that Hayes might even retire but isn’t counting on it.
Also: Brad Miller is seriously considering a senate run against Dole. He’ll decide in the next several weeks so stay tuned. He is planning to be at YKos again this year. I’m hoping Larry can get there too.
Here’s to Blue Tarheeel State!

You put your finger on it, Defjef, they’re only shows..
So,is it that reporters have realized that going on Tweety’s show is a waste of time, or is it because it’s too gorgeous a day in the DC area? His panel is, shall we say, weak. Jim Cramer? Come on!
I’m outta here to rebuild the shed porch and finish one of the raised beds. Advil is becoming the breakfast of champions.

Condi Rice needs to be asked why she lied about the toxic air from the WTC attacks.
September 24, 2006 — Condoleezza Rice’s office gave final approval to the infamous Environmental Protection Agency press releases days after 9/11 claiming the air around Ground Zero was “safe to breathe,” internal documents show.
Now Secretary of State, Rice was then head of the National Security Council – “the final decision maker” on EPA statements about lower Manhattan air quality, the documents say.

There’s a way to watch the Moyers show online. Several links to it on late night thread.
Just back from breakfast at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I agree. Tenet has blood on his hands and this mea culpa is 5 years late. I can still see him at the UN, sitting there with a straight face while Colin Powell spun lies to the world.

I used to drive the Bayshore every day from So. SF to the City to work. There are many, many things I miss about No. Cali. The horrendous traffic, needless to say, is not one of them. I can most times drive for an hour on a highway here, and see less traffic than I would in one minute on say, I-80 or 101. The older I get, the more life seems to be about ‘trade-offs’.;0)

It’s not even a mea culpa. He’s just trying to weasel out of it.
Thanks all. Be sure to go to the opening page of the L.A. Times Calender for a pic of Dennis and Yury that had the paper’s editors in a tizzy.
Easily done. Kristols a tool and Beaniehead’s an idiot.
A very heartening development — David Broder is under attack for the first time within the “mainstream.”
What we need now is someone to break into the tomb that Joe Klein resides in and drive a stake though his heart.
I think George Bush really ‘gets-off’ knowing that everyone in the world nervously hangs on the edge worring about what he’ll do next. Sick boy.
Good morning, everyone!

She’s inclined to talk when she can control the questions and format. She’s just not inclined to honor a congressional subpoena and answer their questions.

It’s also important to sharpen one for Russert. Biden was on Meet the Press and Russert was up to his favorite ploy of “gotcha” although it was a bit more subdued. I wish when Dems, progressives, liberals go on his program they would deligitimize his role by throwing questions back at him. Wish Biden would have mentioned the Moyers special on the failure of the MSM on the run up to the war and Russert’s complicity.
CocoaBeach @ 4
Is it just me, or ever since the revelation at Scooter’s trial that MTP is the “VPs favorite format”, there have been no top-level Bush Admins on MTP? No Bush, Cheney, top cabinet members? I can’t remember any appearing, but my memory could be faulty.
Could it be that NBC is asking him to refrain from having top Bush staffers, in an attempt to distance Russert from the notion that he’s an administration patsy?

Awww. How will the world survive?
On the ABC Gasbags Show, they discussed the Dem debate, and they all took Obama to task for his answer to the question (paraphrasing, here):”what would you do if terrorists attacked a city?”
His answer was (more or less) make sure the first responders had all they needed. His answer was about recovery. Everybody elses’s answer was a variation of “I shall smear myself with testosterone and find someone to bonb.”
Wee Georgie and his panel thought Barack’s answer was terrible. I thought it was actually the best one. It made me respect him a teensy bit more.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

John McCain?
Actually, he probably doesn’t have dark brown near his bottom. I don’t think he’s terribly worried about his campaign. He’s counting on the loud conservative block of his party rejecting Giuliani and Romney as the background and positions of these rivals are highlighted. However, he might be a little nervous about Fred Thompson. I was just watching an excellent Detroit political talk show, and all of the Democratic party representatives (including our wonderful Debbie Dingell, wife of Rep. John Dingell) agreed that Fred Thompson is the candidates the Democrats should be concerned about. Incidentally, the Republicans said that Edwards is the one who makes the GOP bite their fingernails.
And a good sunny Sunday morning to all FDLers. Love the JINX – only I say owe me a kiss.
I saw Greg Palast in LA last night at his Pacifica radio sponsored book tour speak thing.
The audience was hugely appreciative. People really are hungry for the truth.
That said, I’m off to church. As usual, I’ll pray for the healing of our nation and for enlightenment to land on our government leaders.
Peace and Love to All.

Anyone investigate just how they were able to pass security clearance?
Biden had access to more intelligence than Russert could ever hope to have.
Biden voted to give Bush and Cheney the power to ruin our country. As did a host of Democrats. They went on Meet the Press and supported Bush.
Texas Betsy @ 153
I agree, TexasBetsy. It’s shameful. They are public servants, they have sworn to uphold the constitution and laws of this land. I’m sure many people in the Bush admin went into public service with noble intentions. How did their thinking become so perverted that they believe lying, obstructing, and being defiant is acceptable?
I know power often corrupts. A perversion of noble intentions is not unique to members of the Bush administration. I’m just constantly amazed at how widespread the nonchalant attitude toward the constitution, laws, precident, and common decency has spread amongst the “loyal Bushies”.
Rayne (#122):
Political Theater. The good kind …….
Jay @164: self-preservation is important to a network. They can’t afford the damage of letting MTP become irrelevant because the public realizes they are tools of the admin.
I am disappointed that no one is commenting on John Edwards’s statement concerning the expected Bush veto of the funding legislation for the Iraq “War”: “What they [Congress] ought to do is send him another bill with a timetable. If he vetoes that, they should send him another bill with a timetable. They should not back down from this president because this is not about politics. It’s about life and death and war.”
Isn’t this obvious? Why isn’t it more in the news?
Tenet update.
Exclusive interview on MTP next Sunday.

::beams:: Such an invitation cannot be refused.
I have to say that out of everything I watched this morning, the talking heads predictably disappointed me…and Joe Biden was on for an hour of what I will call “The First Real Discussion of How America Goes Forward in Iraq”.
I don’t want our troops stretched, I want the VA to get the proper resources and funds and governance it needs to be a viable institution, I want our troops to have everything they need. This is where I part with Democrats on this spending bill. The very notion that having all of our troops out and THEN working on diplomacy will work is utter nonsense. This is the fundamental disconnect that Biden acknowledges. These things need to and should have been working in CONJUNCTION with one another, but as the article in the New York Times (which wasn’t mentioned on the TV today, I don’t think) that describes the failure of contractors in Iraq to properly educate the Iraqi people on how best to implement these facilities is the quintessential Bush Administration error in this war.
The Democrats offer the opposite, more funds for diplomatic and reconstruction efforts that ignore the reality on the ground-that there are car bombings and insurgent movements on the ground that OBVIOUSLY diplomats and civilian workers are not prepared to handle. Joe Biden brilliantly laid out what has happened up until now, and what our options as a country are at this point, partisanship aside. As a matter of fact, I believe Senator Biden and Senator Brownback have very similar views on the issue. What this is about-and Jon Stewart said it best- it is about not talking over eachother, it is about getting people inside the beltway to trust that we as Americans can have a frank discussion about how to move forward on this issue as a country. Senator Biden said it today, “the American people are not stupid.” Thank you Senator Biden for acknowledging my intelligence as a citizen, now let’s get down to business.
Welcome, Elizabeth B.!
Looks like you already have a lot to contribute. Glad you are with us!
egregious @ 178
::blush:: Thanks!
Glenn Greenwald made my point way better than I could…
It’s now 1:30 p.m. on the East Coast, and none of the blogs I read except for Think Progress has a single article posted about all the goings-on we’re always being urged to watch. Could it be that there really isn’t anything to say any more?
So why watch this stuff? I don’t, and look how wonderful I am.
John H. Farr @ 181
I’m sorry but I must respectfully disagree.
There WERE people saying the same old thing- Condi being the most rage-inducing to watch, the talking heads who always miss the point- But Senator Biden and Rep. Murtha both respectively slapped down and shocked their interviewers. Biden had an actual, reasoned conversation about what needs to be done in Iraq ALL talking points aside and stated that “the American people aren’t stupid.” Rep. Murtha nearly gave Bob Schieffer a heart attack when he mentioned impeachment- and to be fair it made him back pedal a bit to my disappointment.
Something tangible is happening here in this country, we have to be vigilant in making sure we watch for these things when it might feel like a complete waste of time to watch. I for one try to crochet so that it’s not a complete waste if it’s the same-old-crap. I think today, fortunately, was not one of those days.
Wonder if she’ll defend Tobais’ use of prostitutes for massages, as in “What Tobais did was completely appropriate for someone in a high profile and stressful job. He needed to relax. The press is blowing, no pun intended, this up. It’s not as if he was raping pages in Congress.”
I guess everyone will now forgive Bill Clinton, realising that he was also “someone in a high profile and stressful job. He needed to relax.”
Can someone give David Gregory a back bone, aka a spine. He has developed into this lapdog for the administration. Seeing him ‘dance’ with Karl Rove at the Corr. Dinner a few weeks ago, gave me the creeps! I cannot imagine a true reporter putting himself in a position where his credibility and impartiality are questioned. That event was such an occasion for me.
Also, he sat in for Chris Matthews on Hardball two weeks ago, and the ’soft balls’ he pitched made me turn off the TV. He performed like a toady to his guests.
