Finally! An officer has the integrity to come out and expose some of the things the junior and midlevel enlisted know but dare not speak. Politicians continue to claim that the “troops” believe we’re doing the right thing, because we’re not allowed to tell them otherwise. We can’t tell them that the reason our morale is low is not the public disapproval of the war, it’s the gross negligence and misconduct of our leadership, and the fact that they cannot and will not be held accountable for it.

Lt. Col Yingling is a hero for speaking out. Thank you, sir! I can only hope that you will not face the sort of repercussions that an enlisted soldier or sailor would for criticizing our leadership publicly.

I’ve been told that Biskupic genuinely had no clue, that he generally just puts his head down and works hard, and that he is very very removed from DC. BUt then, unlike Heffelfinger, he didn’t get out, so it may be that Biskupic was just not noticing the signs he was being sent.

I had more in mind contact from local Republican congressmen and/or their staffs and nothing formal, mind you. There may have been some serious dissatisfaction at DOJ when his voter fraud investigation went bust, save for incarcerating a few poor black folk. It was on the heels of that the Georgia Thompson case followed and the timing was “fortuitous”. I’ve yet to see a good explanation why the eastern district USA rather than the the Madison-based western district USA prosecuted a state official housed in Madison.)

Man, does that bring back some memories.

714 = methaqualone (”quaalude” or “lude”), a downer that was hugely popular in certain circles in the 1970s. In college, I knew people who ate them like they were M&M’s. I never quite understood the attraction of going to parties to sit in the corner and drool on yourself. Foster’s Lager was my drug of choice.

When I moved to OC in the mid-80s, the irony of my living in area code 714 was not lost on my college friends.
