I can’t imagine Walter Cronkite being a patsy for some anonymous spokesperson in any administration and spreading lies passed onto him by some anonymous spokesperson. Nor Carl Bernstein. Nor Dan Rather. Nor any number of reputable, real journalists, who take truth and honesty, and our U.S. Constitution seriously.

Shame on the rest of them. They are an abomination. They are a threat to our democracy. They are traitors to truth, honesty and our U.S. Constitution.

I think journalists should promise to protect the identity of their sources as long as the protection is extended to allow the source to speak honestly. Journalists should immediately reveal their previous sources in the case that false, self serving information was provided. Editors should promise to fire journalists who don’t follow these rules.
