She almost beat Mean Jean last time, and Howie says Victoria Wulsin is going to do it again:
A few weeks ago I urged Victoria to run again and she told me she was considering it and talking it over with her family and local backers in southwest Ohio. This morning's good news is that Victoria is in! I hope to get her to come on FDL for a Blue America chat in a couple weeks. Meanwhile, here's what she had to say:
"When Americans are fighting in Iraq, going without affordable health care, and struggling to support their families, we need an independent voice in Congress, not a rubber stamp for special interests and the Bush Administration," Dr. Wulsin said, adding, "The people of the Second District deserve a Congresswoman who will be honest with her constituents."
Our Blue America PAC raised $27,000 for Dr. Wulsin in 2006, and she managed to get more votes than any Democrat in the history of the district. She lost 120,112 to 117,595, but the groundwork has been put in place and it's great that Victoria is sticking with it. Howie says we'll be seeing her on Blue America soon, so thanks to everyone who has been supportive of her in the past.
This is very good news.
Update: Howie says, "I just spoke with Victoria and she’ll be here for a live blog session on Saturday, April 28 at 2PM (est)." Yes!

Where the hell is everybody?
I’m here, but really have nothing to say. What a day.
Very good news, indeed, and great to see you, Jane.
Mean Jean needs to become the historical (hysterical?) footnote that is her destiny.
We need Mean Jean out. She is a nightmare. I look forward to the Blue America post with Dr. Wulsin, and to contributing my [small] part to her campaign chest.
cleter @ 2
Everybody is crying their eyes out on the previous thread. And those of us who live in the northern VA school system that sends hundreds of kids to VA Tech every year are just waiting to hear who it is that we know.
Life can be very hard, and very precious. Try to preserve life if you can. I feel like I’m at least one war behind.
I am glad, though, to see Dr. Wulsin make the decision to run this early. As soon as my next ship comes in I will be making a contribution to Blue America.
Didn’t know it was so close- good news!
Jean Schmidt. Now there’s a woman that would melt away to nothing if you threw water on her….
Good for Victoria Wulsin. Perseverance may just count in that district.

Did I give to Victoria? I’m trying to remember. I gave to so many candidates last year, that I can’t keep ‘em all straight! I think I did, though, because I despised Mean Jean so…
Hi Jane and everyone! Outstanding press conference this morning by Harry Reid and two retired Generals. Did y’all see it?

We’re all behind on the tragedies. Hang in there; stay together.
Good news about Dr. Wulsin. She’s a good one.

Howie’s got a great grafik by Monk of Congresswoman Schmidt — don’t miss the caption!
And now, back to our regularly scheduled takedown of the Bush administration.
I gave to Victoria during the campaign last year and will be happy to do so again.
Gosh I love that song/video.
Perhaps Mr. Murtha will help her out too.
egregious @ 5
That’s horrible. I was fixing lunch for the boy, who is home sick. Wasn’t listening to the news.
I just spoke with Victoria and she’ll be here for a live blog session on Saturday, April 28 at 2PM (est)

Thanks!
FDLers should know that I’m going to have the pleasure of meeting Howie in person in a few days, when I go out to LA to be on a panel for the ASCAP expo. Maybe we’ll get a picture so the wingers will be able to see the face of the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy.
I’m taking Howie out to dinner and can’t wait. Unfortunately (for me!), Rickie Lee is touring her new record in Europe, so that will be one less hug.

Sorry to continue with the VT shooting, but this is beyond strange:

Good news. I heard an interview of her on AAR sometime shortly before the last election, and she really impressed me. I’d love to hear more from her (but I’ll have to read about it after-the-fact).
BTW, I love your Saturday liveblogs. I often have to work during that time, so I read them after they’ve closed up. Thanks for bringing such interesting people to us, and for moderating these discussions.
This is pretty much going to the news for the next several days.
Jesus Christ this is sick.
I’ll give $ again to Vic, she’s great.
Going to have to wait until next month.
Already I’m hearing surprised/pleased comments about Ohio’s new Democratic governor, Ted Strickland, who gave something like $300,000 left over from his inaugural fund to a state food bank.

Oops, I meant to quote this from the article:
OT: Time’s up. Anyone know if Abu turned over the docs that Congress subpoenaed last week?
NPR is running a special report right now.
They are saying “more than 30″. Not really sure what that means.
The way Bob Ney got put in prison was through an Abramoff-linked staffer — exactly like this Ring. He was also a Senate staffer to Ashcroft in 1998-2000.
Not that every lawyer who worked for Abramoff and the GOP Congress is a crook (haha!) — but this guy did take the Fifth before Congress when asked about the tribes. I wonder if Mrs. Doolittle has her affairs in order.

Is Abramoff EVER off-topic?
OT – an interesting thing to ponder. Is it wrong for a famous person to have a “ghostwriter” for their blog?
(it’s certainly wrong for the ghostwriter to plagarize, as Katie Couric’s ghostwriter did).
When I read Howie’s news about Vic this morning, I had just started to clear off my 2006 campaign correspondence bulletin board. Putting away the letters, shredding my cancelled Democracy Bond, and wondering if we’d hear from some outstanding Blue Americans again.
Victoria Wulsin has always been a terrific email and snailmail correspondent, with personalized thank-yous, updates on the campaign, and memos long into the post-election counting process. There’s a big debate among ‘pups about the expense to stay in touch with supporters — many have said they’d rather see our small contributions devoted to actual campaigning, and have the campaigns forgo the expense of writing or emailing those of us who make wee adds to the kitty. Count me among the other camp, though — I like hearing from the candidates I’ve (just barely) supported, and from my own campaign experience, I know correspondence is a way to engage volunteers on a rainy day when there’s no canvassing to be done and your next phone script isn’t ready.
So keep those cards and letters coming, candidates — those of us who’ve given up our representation to a larger national cause appreciate hearing from your campaigns!
PS Speaking of BlueAmericans, Charlie and Jan Brown’s son, Jeff, has just been sent on his fourth rotation to Iraq. Good wishes may be sent to info@brown4congress.org

Yes, it’s wrong. Why have a blog if you don’t want to blog? Does Katie Couric have a ghostwriter for her diary, too? Is Katie Couric even a real person?
Like Cheney — she casts no shadow.
{{{{Howie!}}}
Schmidt is on House Agriculture and Transportation and Infrastructure. I’m already keeping a close eye on T and I, ’cause Don Young is on that committee. We need to help Howie and Dr. Wulsin keep an eye on mean Jean wherever she goes! If anybody deserves another shot at a lousy congresscritter, it is Dr. Wulsin.
I kicked in a little to Lady Vic’s last campaign, as I did several Act Blue endorsed candidates. She was one of only a few that actually responded to my contribution with a mail out. She mailed several pieces to my house, which is a sign of a well-organized campaign. Glad she is running again, she definitely has my support.
cbl –
He notes that in the photo, Schmidt does not cast a shadow while other runners do.
There are alternative explanations.
“He notes that in the photo, Schmidt does not cast a shadow while other runners do.”
That is hilarious.
It doesn’t mean the photo is fake. Maybe she’s just some kind of monster. Like a vampire, or something. Maybe like the Ringwraiths from Lord of the Rings.

Although the article calls this “the latest foul in Couric’s rocky rookie season,” it’s not. Her latest foul is dredging up and giving credence to the Obama madrassa lies.
I hope the ghost of Edward R. Murrow haunts that beastly Couric person day and night.
Oilfieldguy @ 60
I get mail almost every day from someone I donated to. And from some I haven’t donated to.

You’ll be pleased to know that she and her team are on their way to Blacksburg to broadcast from there tonight.
O/T. Since Fri. night I have been mulling over the CT US attorney gig for Gonzalez, and although people say he’s a fine guy, I found this by Colin Mcenroe. Notice in the comments a friend of one of the CT librarians who got gagged, calls him a fine apparatchnik. And another thinks that something may be brewing with Gov. Rell, and that O’Connor may have to “recuse” himself again.
What a mess! Of course there is HoJoe’s slushfund that never got investigated.
ccmask,
I was refering to snail mail. Yeah, I get bunches of email, you didn’t specify if that’s what you were talking about, but something about hard copy, envelope stuffing say’s something to me about ground-game.
cleter @ 57
NBC/Brian Williams say Bu-Bye to Couric...
I’m gonna ask this AGAIN. For the lawyers out there:
Is there anything that legally would preclude Waxman from subpoenaing Abramahoff and putting him under the klieg lights? I understand if there were any hope of future cases against the kabal. But since they appear to be moving to reduce his sentence due to his “cooperation” without showing any evidence of other indictments from this cooperation, a subpoena and public testimony seems to be an option that could force Alice Fisher to sh*t or get off the p*t.
Or am I an idiot?

Hey, is Ms. Vic’s website still up from last time? If not, maybe she should re-up and make a few simple changes ASAP, the sooner the better.

My favorite line from today’s Froomkin:
sort of OT but just noticed this in the NY Times Media and Advertising section about an offer to buy Clear Channel by Bain Capital, a private equity firm founded by Mitt Romney. In addition to Bain Capital, Thomas H. Lee Partners is the other part of this deal, 26 Billion was the proposed offer but it is being raised. Imagine Romney running for President and having a large stake in Clear Channel, which owns most radio stations and a lot of Billboards in the country. Will Romney get a cut rate for his advertising? Lock out the Dems? You know the Rethuglicans can’t win an election unless they cheat and rig the vote.
It seemed to me I read where The Carlyle Group bought Lowes Theaters, too.
Howie’s got a BlueAmerica line for Vic already, with a coupla hundred-dollar hitters already!
JEP,
looks like Doc Vic’s campaign website is currently not available -
AZ Matt @ 72
I wonder what the eligibility criteria are, and why bloggers are excluded? E.g., why can’t an emptywheel be nominated for “investigative reporting”??
Watch Fox run the crawl line “Savage wins Pulitzer” then all their lemmings will think its the OTHER Savage who won it, for his exemplary work exposing the left-wing commie agenda!!!
Can you hear them now “That Mr. Pulitzer ain’t as stupid as I thought!!”
TeddySanFran @ 63
I think part of the point is that she has made so many foul plays in her short tenure, it’s hard to keep track of them. The Obama smear. The nasty interview of John & Elizabeth Edwards. The censoring of interviews in the “Free Speech” segments. The photoshopping of her PR photo to make her appear thinner.
She and her PR staff have been trying too hard to make COURIC the news. They’re trying to make her newsworthy, both loveable and “tough”. The result is that they’re not focusing on the news, not focusing on integrity, and both she and CBS come off as shallow and desperate.
Perhaps it hasn’t occurred to someone that she has poor judgement, that she and her bosses are not confident she can attract viewers without creating a media hoopla around her, or that she is over her head. Maybe all three of these things.

So, Dana P. speaks to the president’s unahappiness with the way Russian dissenters are treated. In other headlines, Bush has permission to block dissenters from being at events at which he’ll be speaking. Gosh. Seems like a package deal — both or neither, but one ought not have it one way for others, another for himself. It’s status quo, I know, just shouldn’t be.

If some enterprising paper were to publish Marci’s work after-the-fact, but as regular MSM, she might very well qualify.

I saw that and wondered. But given the slap on the wrist sentence for the one fellow earlier (Griles?), it just seemed that this is another rock that Wax needs to be turning over. Where Rove appears to be the IN White House keystone, Abramahoff is the external keystone. To mix metaphors, someone needs to be pulling hard on that strong to get this thing unraveled.

OT – the Planning and Conservation League had their annual legislative/environmental symposium on Saturday. Jerry McNerney was the lunchtime presenter, and gave good props to the netroots. He showed a firm grasp of the issues and was inspiring as a speaker. The topic was “How To Win The Environmental Battles That Test This Generation.”
PCL is California’s only statewide environmental coalition.
I think it’s terriffic Dr. Wulsin is going after the goofy Schmidt again, but, If the DLC and Emanual decide to challenge in the primary she could be hurt by their money. Look what they did to Tammy Duckworth.
When I heard Victoria Wulsin interviewed I thought to myself how smart and normal she sounded and that she couldn’t lose when you’d compare her to Schmidt.
