Let me count the ways:
– Alberto Gonzales' apology to United State Attorneys is about as sincere and believable as Don Imus' apology to the Rutgers women's basketball team. In both cases, the only thing they're really sorry about is that they got caught.
– Imus has lots of powerful conservative friends in the media, including Neal Boortz and Tim Russert (who GE/NBC's Jack Welch openly boasted of turning into a good little conservative) and in conservative and Republican politics, including John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Joe Lieberman (who we all must remember was elected by Republicans in 1988 to punish Lowell Weicker). So does Gonzales — and not just George W. Bush, but Joe Lieberman, who was one of only six Democratic Senators to vote to confirm Gonzales as Attorney General and who up until very recently was one of Gonzales' biggest defenders.
– Imus has at best a dodgy relationship with the truth; so does Gonzales, as shown here and here.
– Conservatives and Republicans are trying to decide whether to embrace and defend their buddy Imus (often using the old "but rappers do it too!" schtick) or distance themselves from him as much as possible. The same split is happening over Gonzales — and over Gonzales' patron Bush, for that matter, as some folks do their level best to pretend that The Decider really isn't a true Republican while Grover Norquist boasts that "the base is for Bush".

Duh!
this is from NYTimes Op-Ed Contributor NEAL KATYAL
“IN 1999, when the Independent Counsel Act (the law that gave Kenneth Starr and Lawrence Walsh their mandates) was expiring, I was given the job of writing the new Justice Department rules for the appointment of a special prosecutor since the department would once again be responsible for overseeing such investigations. There was one hypothetical to worry about once the Independent Counsel Act lapsed: a case in which the attorney general…(is)…suspected of possible misconduct. The rules were therefore written to vest the decision about whether to appoint a special prosecutor in the top Justice Department official not embroiled in the controversy. Today, the only way to get to the bottom of the United States attorney scandal — which involved the administration’s firing of nearly 10 percent of America’s top prosecutors — is to use these rules and appoint a special prosecutor.
The nightmare has now come true.”

Where is everybody? I got a zed because I wandered off to check a couple of other websites.
Phoenix Woman!
I think they both like to torture small animals…but that’s just a guess.
Who were the other 5 dems who voted for Gonzales?
There is quite unfortunately one big differnce between these two meatballs. Imus got fired. But that perhaps is about the only difference.
Gonzo owes his life and career to an alcoholic undertalented politician who he ass kisses daily.
Imus owes his life and career to his own wise ass mouth- sort of different.
What they have in common is the cookie jar- and the position of their hands.
The Lake is in mourning…
Doves are crying,
at the thought of all these young people dying…
I think I’ll join them.
This has been a sad day, and hearts are heavy.

Gonzo will be gone soon, I think… the confluence of false testimony and email proof is closing in on him very quickly. Were his masters any more succeptable to the concept of shame, his head would already be underwater.
PW,
I thought you would suggest the Imus and Gonzo are like because they are both studs! *g*
Phoenix Woman asks (rhetorical I’m sure):
Both clueless idjits?
I think postponing Gonzo’s testimony did not do him a favor. He’ll have loose bowels for yet another two days.
Rappers fire people for dodgy reasons and then lie about it all the time.
From ABC News (welcome to the real world, MSM):

Am I missing something here? If I am, would a lawyer on this site clear me up:
If lying to Congress is a crime, why can this guy not be arrested immediately after he testifies. Evidently he has given his statement in writing yesterday. Why can he not be arrested regardless of whose lackey toad he is?
I don’t get it.
The dog ate our email homework, but he just threw it up and I’m sure we can retrieve all of it…Perino

Both clueless idjits?
Neither one has yet been caught eating guinea pigs with his human mask lying on the table nearby?
LS @ 16
At the risk of EPUing myself: this is too damned easy. I’m waiting for the catch.
eCAHNomics @ 13
It also gives Conyers two extra days to lean on DOJ to comply with that subpoena. But I have a suspicion that the DOJ will pony up the subpoenaed materials as soon as Gonzo is done testifying.
Puesto @ 15
It’s being held in contempt of congress, right? If so, the person responsible for enforcing contempt of congress charges is the AG… once again this administration’s breach of the public trust is so egregious that our legal system never envisioned having to root out this kind of corruption.
Loo Hoo @
6
A wild guess would be the 2 Nelsons, Landrieu, Pryor and Salazar.
Huh. My guess was right!
Puesto @ 15
“To my knowledge”
His only crime is that he’s very, very forgetful and easily confused.
Loo Hoo @

Both Nelsons, Salazar, Pryor, and Landrieu.
Are they from the state? Are they both jack asses? I give up?
LS @ 15
Ewwww. Barf! The catch is that they can retrieve it but they won’t share it. Executive privilege.
LJ/Aquaria @ 21
Henceforth to be known, for the sake of brevity, as “the usual suspects.”
EvilDrPuma @ 18
It didn’t sound like she really committed to anything. She still left the door open for massive numbers of e-mails to still be missing. But I’m sure they’ll be able to recover all the innocuous ones.
If the AG does leave, will we get someone better? I’m here thinking of Rumsfeld’s replacement, and how that’s working out. Rove’s the one.
Eli @ 27
If the recent document dump was anything to go by, there may be a lotta stink in the innocuous ones.
Don’t know what this is about, but it could be a case of HELL NO WE WON’T GO:

To my knowledge, he’s a fucking moron. YMMV
Imus doesn’t have any character.
Gonzo outsourced his to Bush.
Similarities, right?
Eli @ 19
I don’t know that that helps him. As I point out here, his one piece of evidence that the firings weren’t done to impede an investigation is that DOJ has been so forthcoming with documents. Ergo, according to his own logic, if they aren’t forthcoming with documents, we should conclude the firings were related to investigations.
We just need a Senator to point out that, even according to his own logic, we should assume he obstructed justice.
White House able to retrieve all the e-mails from the chef regarding menu choices and vegetable shopping. Historians are eternally grateful. Will enable them to correlate what Clusterfuck ate with the crazy ass decisions he made the next day.
Remember, they agreed to an independently-chosen computer forensics company.
Nothing was said re: an independent accounting of what was recoverable. Things can still go missing between recovery and the handover.
Eli, 27,
I read she said some, and then said, all….
Not true today, but it will be next week…
Q. How Is Alberto Gonzales Like Don Imus?
A. They’re both jobless.
Gnome de Plume @ 25
I think you nailed it on the head. The reason the RNC e-mails are “lost” is because there can no longer be a claim of executive privilege or national security for these e-mails.
The Bushies waived those arguments when they went outside of the White House e-mail system to communicate with their political flunkies.
“but rappers do it too!” is this administrations get out of jail free card Moral Equivalencey two wrong aparently do make a right if your Republican. But lets not forget the “coded ” hate speech “rappers ” means black people and bad I still don’t hear the MSM going on mentioning songs like “delia’s gone ” by Johnny Cash who I love but lyrics like “tied her to her chair ” and ” one more round delia’s gone ” are antiwoman. I guess I just don’t like the way the MSM is picking on rappers when their music isn’t so nice either.

Well, I’m sure his staff is rushing to pull all those subpoena docs together, but the subpoena was just so complicated and comprehensive, and they’re so busy with putting out fires, and the copier keeps breaking, and the server keeps going down, and…

OK, I’m going to EPU myself, because I’ve been wanting to say this for a long time:
Eli @ 22
Thanks Aquaria and EW. I’m confident that Howie is on this. And that we’ll be right with him.
Lying to Congress -
I just read about a former aid to Rep. Ney of Ohio being convicted of lying to Congress and serving a reduced sentence because he agreed to “flip” on Ney. I don’t remember his name, but this seems to be a crime he was punished for.
I am not sure “contempt” is a crime. Congress has the authority IN FULL to issue a citation for contempt of Congress, which is carried out by its Sargent at Arms.
And, the rub here is what else I read was that the Committee which issued the subpoena had to have a 2/3 vote to file the contempt proceeding with the full house. Confused? Me too!
From all this, I conclude that the Dem committee chairs are like the dog chasing the car. Has no idea what to do when he catches it. And, with such a brash, arrogant administration Our Benighted Emperor will just defy them.
So, what is all this about if no one has any “real bullets.” Just theater? Bush’s ratings can’t go any lower than about 25% to 28% – which is just the nut cases. So, I really don’t see anything happening. They will just wait till Congress has run out of rubber bullets, and do whatever they want.
I feel like going over to the place where I used to work and asking that Horrorstone bimbo if she still thought Abu was a handsome man, so clean-cut. I remember when she said that, and I told her, “You’re so damned shallow. You don’t even know who he is, and you’re basing a judgment of him on how he looks. If you knew even who he is, you’d know he’s evil.” She got this smirk on her face, and said, “But these people named him man of the year.” (Yes, it’s true. Hispanic Magazine)
“Time Magazine named Hitler Man of the Year, O Queen of Logical Fallacies. Any questions?”
I wonder why she hated me…
To the best of my knowledge, based on the facts at hand, Alberto Gonzales is the worst attorney general ever. At least that is my recollection.

When you refuse a subpoena isnt there a consequence?
Why are they so polite?

told them that Laura and I and many across our nation are praying for the victims and all the members of university community that have been devastated by this terrible tragedy,” Bush said in the Diplomatic Room of the White House.
“Today our nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones at Virginia Tech,” he said. “We hold the victims in our hearts. We lift them up in our prayers and we ask a loving God to comfort those who are suffering today.”‘
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were already on the campus, aiding local authorities in the investigation.
“We are committed to providing support and assistance to those authorities as well as to the victims of this crime for as long as necessary,” Gonzales said in a statement issued by the Justice Department.
“I am deeply saddened and angered by these senseless acts of violence,” Gonzales said. “My deepest condolences and prayers go out to those affected by this horrific crime, especially those who lost loved ones.”

I would love to have John/Henry announce a new subpoena policy: That if they subpoena you, they’ll have the Sergeant-At-Arms standing outside your office at subpoena deadline time, and he’ll leave with either the documents or you.
Heh! Delaying the hearings is good — more stuff comes to light, making Gonzo’s position that much harder.

Blank 88,
The video shot by the student from his cell phone. It shows shots being fired by the swat team at the building. There was a very brief blurb on the news that some of the “shots” were from the police side. You can see in the video the sparks from the shots fired from outside. The student who filmed it has been repeatedly interviewed all day. It is probably on YouTube.

NEW YORK – Environmentalists say they are running out of patience with what they see as the snail’s pace of climate change legislation moving through the U.S. Congress. The weekend saw thousands of people taking to the streets, parks and beaches in towns and cities across the United States, amidst calls for Congress to pass a law that would require 80 percent cuts in climate-changing carbon emissions by 2050.

If their parents ever found out they dressed this way…

Lobbying the remaining Rs in Congress and working for the cos. that have manipulated the system under Rs like pharma.
The first shooting was improperly handled.
The students were not warned about a shooter on the loose.
A second shooter barricades the building and shoots over 50 people.
The police shot from the outside. (see video)
In the ensuing frenzy, the police got very rough on the students. (students reported that on TV.
Shooter #1 – fight with a girlfriend, who he killed, although they don’t know who he is or where he is.
The 2nd shooter now being identified as a Chinese national who perhaps cased out the school recently, but is not identifiable (so how do they know he was a Chinese national who recently entered the US). (reported on KO)
The first shooter – somewhere out there.
What the hell is going on?
Hearing the voices of students who were witnesses to the killings. They sound clear and articulate right now. In a couple of days they will start shaking and in a couple of weeks, it will really come down hard on them. It will take weeks for the chemicals in their bodies that were raging during the trauma to work their way out of their bodies and years, if ever, before they can feel like “normal” people again.
Multiply that exponentially for the soldiers and marines in Iraq. One can’t compare the two really, but so much trauma for so many young people who don’t deserve to have to deal with all of this.

It has been suggested that US Attorney’s were fired who did not support Voter suppresion of minorities. Of course ROVE ET. AL. also just steal elections. It appears the Diebold AccuVote-TSmachines should be their machine of choice. It is crazy to use voting machines that can be secretly programmed to steal elections. But it has been discovered that these machines can pass “viruses” malicious programs that change voting results, to other electronic voting machines. http://www.princeton.edu/main/…..topstories
Even more crazy is Wayne Madsen who says: “A number of intelligence sources have reported that assassinations of foreign leaders like Hariri and Hobeika are ultimately authorized by two key White House officials, Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove and Deputy National Security Adviser Elliot Abrams. In addition, Abrams is the key liaison between the White House and Sharon’s office for such covert operations, including political assassinations.”

OK, I must have missed it.
How do we know there were two shooters?
I had the notion (perhaps mistaken) that university officials are really reluctant to give out information that proves that only ONE shooter was involved — because if it’s only ONE shooter, it will prove they reacted to the first shooting inadequately (”inadequately” would be an understatement, actually).
Hello? Anybody home?

Heh. I was writing out a long e-mail, and was rather surprised to see only one new comment when I came out of it…
Hmm, cnn’s shooting story still not saying two shooters… who is saying this?
Pondering 1 vs. 2 shooters. What’s the probability there’d be more than one on the same day? Seems pretty remote. Also, student who was in one of the rooms with 2nd shooter did not desribe him as Asian, though KO sez it is being reported that he was. Many unanswered questions.

Paranoid? You want paranoid? I can’t get the niggling thought out of the back of my head how goddamn convenient it is for certain criminal assholes that they have this tragedy to fill the headlines right now. It’s stupid and conspiracy-minded, but it’s still hard to shake.
My condolences to the students and their families. My wishes for authoritarians of all types to not overreact, and for the media to not sensationalize the stories of these poor kids, though I know it’s too late for all of that.

If he had no ID on him, that’s a sure way to keep ID secret till fingerprinting/dental records, etc.
I do not like it.
Hartford Courant points out that Lieberman was a favorite of Imus. Dodd announced his candidacy on Imus as well. Apparently some Dems are complaining that Imus is one of the few national radio shows that Dems can appear on. Cry me a river.
LJ/Aquaria @ 141
I tried searching, and, well… I blame you.
Mrs. K8, and Blank,
The Press Conference people said the shootings were NOT by the same shooter.
The takedown of the reporter story is muddled. Someone was taken down. Apparently, a student reporter was taken down. First they said they had someone in custody, then they said they did not have someone in custody. Then they wouldn’t confirm either way. Now they are saying the two shootings were by TWO people. One is dead (2nd shooter). They do not know the identity or whereabouts of the first shooter and he is not in custody. They tried to say the two shootings were not connected at first, but now they don’t know anything. They just reported that they think they may know who the 2nd shooter is. That is after it has already been reported that he was a Chinese national. Confusion and spin.
Meanwhile, the students, and their families are suffering unthinkable pain. The resulting ptsd will be forever. Pray for them.
bdu @ 147
There are certain blogs where I’m CERTAIN if I moseyed on over right now, I’d hear some more conversation on the MK-ULTRA mind-controlled zombies triggered to do such evil deeds.
Some nights, round about 3 a.m., I find myself tilting toward mighty strange considerations, too.
Veritas78 @ 115
Classic post. “Putzi” Hanfstangl would be proud on you. [Per the web, Hitler’s first press secretary, Putzi Hanfstangl, was a Harvard man, class of 1904]
Anyway, anent “careful where you hold ‘em,” one would hope that the Pulizer Committee would at least add some reinforcement, like a candy-cane… No I will NOT go there. :) /Veritas64
Try Olvia Lufkin, silly.
Or Olivia Reira.
Or Olivia Trapnest.
Sen. Joseph “Low Road” Lieberman (CfL-”ME”) is a low-down, yellow-bellied, egg-sucking dog.
Mrs. K8,
We’ve all been to this rodeo a few times before.
mui @ 149
Imus has an estate in CT as well as the home in Manhattan and the Ranch.
I had not seen a suggestion in the MSM to the fact that Mr. Wolfowitz seems not to be divorced. Susie Bright has an interesting comment on that, and a reference to a note Mrs. Wolfowitz is said to have written to (the excessively Christian) Mr. Bush:
“Meanwhile, Wolfie’s wife, Clare— that’s right, he’s not divorced— is reported to have written George W. warning him years ago that her husband’s adultery could jeopardize national security!” (link)
I suppose Mr. Wolfowitz might somehow be “street legal”. If not, his conduct is the sort of thing that routinely gets generals and admirals and CEO’s fired.
The MSM is also underplaying that Mr. Wolfowitz is the son of a renowned fervent Zionist, while his current partner is a Muslim of mixed North African Arab ancestry who carries a British passport. In other circumstances, this might be unexceptional. In Mr. Wolfowitz’s case, the ironies scream at you.
LS @ 151
Per KO school not confirming that all shootings same person but ATF source is saying yes but wanting to check weapons, shells ,etc before confirming.
lolo @ 139
Oh how excellent! Conyers rawks.
KO mentioned this, also qualified it as being poorly sourced…
Authorities were investigating whether the gunman who killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history was a Chinese man who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa
http://www.suntimes.com/index.html
LS @ 151
Wow. How did I miss reference to two shooters? I think I need either more caffeine or more sleep. But I’m not sure which one…
Imagine Bush saying no link to terrorism wrt VT? Something is not right with this story. A foreign national who shoots himself in the face so that we don’t know who is is?
S.O.S. from MA @ 159
Oh how excellent! Waxman rawks.
Especially since LIEberman is the Senate counterpart to Waxman and I need say no more.
bdu @ 147
KO is all over this he says the story keeps changing……….
eCAHNomics @ 13
And Abu has this capable(?)guy to be his new chief of staff.
LS – it’s not that clear yet. The press conference said they had id’d a person of interest for the first shootings and they have spoken to that person but s/he is not in custody. They also said the shooter at the second site did not match the description and is not the same as the person of interest. It’s impossible to draw conclusions until they release more info … They may well have misidentified the person of interest but they sure should have locked that place down.
my bro was in lockdown next to the campus as was his wife … no word yet on two second cousins who studied there …

The Decider really isn’t a true Republican? The Republican Party long ago sold its collective soul to the Bush family. The Decider is the true Republican.

I’m tired of TradMed gnashing their teeth about Imus’s charities going without because his show’s been cancelled. He and his rich wife can open their wallets to make up the difference for Camp Imus, shut up, and ride off into the sunset.
dakine01 @ 163
Not to take anything away from your point but you caught my post when I was mistakenly praising Waxman instead of Conyers. (I went back & fixed it within the editing time margin.) Oh hell, they’re both exemplary legislators, so no matter, eh?
LS @ 151
Yes. Thanks. My comments have not been aimed at disputing any of your assertions…just trying to decontruct/recontruct story as it is being propagated. Have no tv.
ET advised watching FOX. I concur. If this is Manchurian (esp. allegation of Asian perp *wink*) they’ll be the ones assembling the cover story. Take nothing at face value.
YMMV (leery on the usual four letter about ‘humle opinion…read one way, can look like an Imus quote *winknod*)
Will see if presser is on YouTube. And the camera phone sequence.
shudder.
RevDeb, you have mail.
Mrs. K8, thanks. We love our new house. Three times the room of our old house – and we still all hang out in the same room together.
S.O.S. from MA @ 160
Oh how excellent! Conyers rawks.
Excellant. Maybe it’s just me, but I am beginning to smell something rotten not just in Paulose, and Biskupic, but all over, with Kevin O’Connor too.
Badwater @ 169
Basically what you’re saying is that folks like Lincoln and most probably AUH2O, Ike, and Dewey would be dems if they were alive in today’s world?
lolo, Mrs. K8,
Watch the student’s video. Shots were fired also from ATF at the building. That is part of the rodeo we’ve seen before. We’ll have to wait to hear the transcripts of the Press Conferences. Most likely, they will finally determine one shooter killed everyone. SOS
dakine01 @ 175
I don’t think Goldwater would be a Dem, but he wouldn’t be a Republican either. Maybe he’d be like the next Ross Perot or something.
S.O.S. from MA @ 171
Wax is going all over everything BUT the USAs because of Oversight committee and would probably be on that if necessary.
dakine01 @ 176
Is there any doubt about that? On the other hand, George Wallace would definately be a Republic.
Siun @ 166
Aha!
Keith and a guest of his maintained that the “person of interest” had nothing to do with the shootings (maybe just someone who knew the shooter[s]), thus it would make sense if that person didn’t resemble the shooter[s].
My prayers go out for your family and you, and to everyone touched by this horror.

Siun @ 166
God awful, I pray that your relatives are okay.
Like I said a minute ago, there is confusion and spin. We won’t know what the final outcome of who was involved is for awhile.
Eli @ 177
Yeah, you’re probably right about that. He was a TRUE conservative, even though I usually was against his policies. But he had strong libertarian strains as well. I assume you saw the docu his granddaughter did on him? It was on HBO frequently a few months ago.
allan_in_upstate @ 45
Those munchkins who are waving pompoms, according to Mr. Iacocca.

He was a male Asian, about 6 feet tall, an eye witness just said on Scarborough.

PW has a double feature this evening…with a new thread upstairs, FYI.
Frederick Kagan, Kristol, Cheney, Ledeen… are all masters of lighting bags of dog shit on the front porch of the nation and then ringing the door bell.
They are certainly not sending their children
or relatives to Iraq. Lilly white assed chickenhawks. OOPs! I do believe Ledeen’s daughter served in Iraq not as a soldier but with the CPA. It turns out Simone Ledeen did not even have to interview or have a background check for her job in Iraq.
Read about Simone’s job in Iraq

Here is another article by warmonger elite Kagan. Hey Kagan you are not to old to serve! Put on your uniform and quit sending Americas children to die in Iraq. And if you and your buds (should not exclude Liv Wurmser) have your way the next stop will be Iran

No, I missed it. I just have a general idea of him. I would be kind of afraid to have him as a president (although he would be a huge improvement over what we have now), but I sure would like to have his voice around (plus I think he would carry a lot more moral authority than any of the other Republican heretics).
Hi dmac!
Loo Hoo @ 183
Wolfowitz met anthropologist Clare Selgin Wolfowitz while they were both studying at Cornell University in the mid-60s. They married in 1968 and had three children. They separated in 2001.

Blank Kludge @ 148
Nor do I. Too many inconsistencies.
– Video clip from phonecam has audio of what sounds like a rifle, not any handgun;
– Disfigurement from a handgun distorting features beyond recognition highly unlikely – shotgun at close range would be more likely;
– Why are there no composite drawings of suspect(s) from events 1 and 2 (should be by now)?
Hoping everything is okay with your family members on campus, Siun, sending good thoughts your way.
Eli @ 191
His granddaughter was kinda torn about whether he would be a dem in today’s world as he was pro-choice, small govt, and a lot of other areas that seem dem positions now.
Mommybrain @ 173
Oh, I know what you mean, although in a different way. Our house turned out to be larger than we had ever imagined occupying – but we got such a great price for it. We have two sets of heaters, air conditioners, evaporative coolers.
And now, thanks to utility costs soaring through the roof, we move back and forth between different “wings” depending on time of year. One part of the house is better for heating/air conditioning costs (and we don’t bother heating/cooling the other part). The other part of the house is good for spring and fall (evaporative cooler weather!).
Well, when the Great Depression Part Deux hits, we can fill the place up with boarders, and then spread the utility costs around, I guess.
dakine01 @ 196
Did not know he was pro-choice. Fits in with libertarianism, but that’s like the ultimate sin for conservatives. Christian right would have eaten him alive.
I would bet money he’d be against anti-sodomy laws – I wonder where he’d stand on gay marriage.
tinfoil, sorry….
I wonder why folks watch Mission:Impossible (TV show debuted when? and then the movies, which are quite good.) and can’t apply to events domestically. Like OKC and McVeigh and his Arab accomplice.
‘Person of interest’ could be like Oswald’s handler. Told them, “Nothing to see here. [Cheney’s classified this operation.] Move along.”
sigh.
Eli @

Well, he was against don’t ask, don’t tell. He figured being gay had nothing to do with ability to fire a weapon.
dakine01 @ 200
An astounding insight that modern Republicans appear incapable of, even when they’re desperate enough to enlist criminals and people with mental health issues in the military.
Loo Hoo @ 184
I remember reading, when Wolfie was named to World Bank, that he and his wife were long-separated. I also read about Ms. Wolfie’s warning to Preznit.
“I give. Why would Mrs. Wolfowitz stay with an adulterer?”
Why would she marry him in te first place? His physical appearance gives me the total willies, shallow woman that I am. And I loved Sprout’s pet rat.
Mrs. K8 – come the depression, we plan to rent ours out, too ;) Sounds like we have a similar setup. We haven’t experienced summer here yet, but so far our utility usage is almost nil. No heater, no AC. House stays relatively cool. Old house vs new house – super energy innefficient vs. super energy efficient.
Eli @ 198
Considering that he had no problem with gays in the military, my guess he would have been fine with it. Or maybe he would have made a distinction with “civil” marriage, and pushed for a two-wedding approach (civil ceremony plus optional religious ceremony) like the Europeans have to keep religion out of the public square.
Mrs. K8,
It’s funny you should say that, because right before the ‘06 election I got my one and only letter from (former)Sen. DeWine of Ohio. And I’d been writing him nice polite letters for years. At least Bob Ney wrote me back!
Margot –
That’s funny about DeWine. Gee, I’m sure it’s just coincidental that he wrote back when he did, right before the election.
Hope you said, “Day late and more than a dollar short, pal!” in return.
Mrs. K8 @ 203
I’m a big fan of the dual-marriage approach. I think the Constitution demands equal treatment, but it can’t mandate legitimacy in the eyes of religion. So yes, civil marriage so that the government accords gay couples all the same rights and tax status as straight ones, but the religious component is between them and their faith.
Mrs. K8,
Yeah, quite a coincidence, hm? hah!
I didn’t tell him anything, I thought it was a rather sad little letter. I knew he was going to lose; he didn’t need me to rub it in.
You’re a kinder woman than I, Margot. I would have felt compelled to spell out chapter and verse on precisely WHY he was going to lose.
Guess I’m just one of those rabid lambs — who hasn’t had her shots.
OTOH, there are so many people we need to write letters to, on all manner of topics, so I can see you wouldn’t want to waste time on such a LOSER. hee hee
The handsome Mr. K8 has arrived home from a long day “making the donuts” as we call it.
Trying to carry on conversations here at the same time as quizzing him on his adventures out in the greater world isn’t working.
So, I’ll see you later, my dear Firepups! It’s always a pleasure to share your company here at Lakeside.
Dakine – thanks. Just spoke to my mom and all well and accounted for though quite shaken.
“the base is for Bush”

We always hear about “the base.”
The base in Arabic is al Qaeda.
So al Qaeda is for Bush.

Great news!
Dakine and Eli — Goldwater’s last political act, before he took ill, was to campaign for a local Democrat, Karan English.
If you think Imus was rough on the Rutgers team,
you should see him together with his wife!
I’ve seen them on Larry King, and they have avery dysfunctional relationship which they don’t even try to disguise in public!
They both insult and ridicule each other, having no respect for each others’ boundaries.
It’s painful to watch.
The comment that got him fired should come as no surprise. It’s the way his brain works:
gratuitous insults just roll off his tongue.
