Uh. Mah. Gawd. It seems that I owe some lovely person at the RNC a thank you note:
Mr. Kelner's briefing raised particular concems about Karl Rove, who according to press reports used his RNC accountfor 95%o of his communications. According to Mr. Kelner, although the hold started in August 2004, the RNC does not have any e-mails prior to 2005 for Mr. Rove. Mr. Kelner did not give any explanation for the e-mails missing from Mr. Rove's account, but he did acknowledge that one possible explanation is that Mr. Rove personally deleted his e-mails from the RNC server.Mr. Kelner also explained that starting in 2005, the RNC began to treat Mr. Rove's emails in a special fashion. At some point in 2005, the RNC commenced an automatic archive policy for Mr. Rove, but not for any other White House officials. According to Mr. Kelner, this archive policy removed Mr. Rove's ability to personally delete his e-mails from the RNC server. Mr. Kelner did not provide many details about why this special policy was adopted for Mr. Rove. But he did indicate that one factor was the presence of investigative or discovery requests or other legal concerns. It was unclear from Mr. Kelner's briefing whether the special archiving policy for Mr. Rove was consistently in effect after 2005. (emphasis mine)
Oh, frabtacular day. And may I just say for the record that if Mr. Rove knew that his e-mails were to be preserved due to a pending criminal investigation and deleted them anyway in an effort to keep them from being viewed in discovery under a valid request from, say, a certain tall special prosecutor whose name might be Fitzgerald...well, that could be construed in a whole lot of places as obstruction of justice.
Oh, and did I mention that there are reports that Monica Goodling is cutting an immunity deal with one or both Judiciary Committees to spill all?
You just can't find loyal minions willing to break the law and take the fall for you like you used to, can you, Karl? How does that make Scooter feel, I wonder?

Just a reminder, big doc dump tomorrow from doj. dumpster diving wiki already set up at TPM.
And jane, can you tell us if there is ANY way we can get congress to nominate Pat Fitzgerald to replace Abu Gonz once Abu is Gone-z? I mean, is he the reincarnation of Elliot Ness or what?
Proud to say I’ve never been a minion, to anybody.

Maybe we can have some nets out there to keep them, er, underwater.
Oh boy!
Oh, frabjus! I guess the RNC doesn’t want legal trouble.
I wonder if this will be enough to make Fitz act.
Have to admit I’m not that hopeful.
it goes ‘frabjous day, calloo, callay”

Fitz!!! Sounds like a bus, looks like a bus, might be a bus.

Bionic at 5 — You mean, beyond exposing the criminal cabal in the first place and convicting Libby? Because gosh, he’s just been sitting around twiddling his thumbs otherwise.
O.o
The full post on the retention by the RNC specifically hints at the fact that Fitz had Karlosivitch Rovski in his sights and WANTED those emails, and since Fitz has NOT CLOSED his case, they are still being retained….
And, btw, I have an e-mail in to Fitz’s spokesperson to see if he has any comment on this. Will let you guys know if I get anything beyond a “no comment” back. *g*

Someone back a thread or so, I think it was emptywheel, suggested James Comey to step up after Gonzalez is pushed out. I think I agree. Comey did the right thing in the face of some very serious threats and he thinks fast on his feet…effectively. The next president is free to nominate his own AG, and I hope Patrick Fitzgerald is given serious consideration for that. Honestly, I believe that both are exceptional men.
Karl Rove going down worries me, though. That leaves George W. Bush alone with Dick Cheney.
This country has problems.

I’m with you. Beating the Imus dead horse until it liquifies…hopefully it’ll be over for the most part this evening.
Maybe Pat Robertson’s Universities are better than we think? Perhaps significantly better than a matchbook law school. Regents U has served Monica Goodling well and another 150 Christian soldiers in the Bush admin according to Regents U website. Colburn U is Michele Bachmann’s Pat Robertson law school, praise the lord, “She’s Hot for God”. Karl can trust Michele Bachmann. Amen? You have to see this to believe it….

God, this makes me sick. I was captive in my car (on a long drive to see my dad who was dying in a VA hospital) when the Iraq war started. I will never forget the sound of bombs exploding and Rumsfeld’s voice describing the “shock and awe” experience. He was orgasmic. I felt so ill, dizzy, disoriented. I knew the guy was an evil f*ck. I wonder if he was a regular too.
There is just no end to the perversion of these freaks.
The only thing that takes away the “ugh” factor of a picture of the porcine Rove with his mouth open is the wonderful fantasy of being the person to shove an apple in his mouth.

I want Randall Samborn’s job. I think I could not comment with the best of ‘em!
If and when Karl Rove’s head ends up on a pike, I sense that there will an epic thaw in our country of C.S. Lewis proportions.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 8
No, I give him full kudos for that.
I guess I just expected and IANAL, that once he convicted Libby, as I was sure he was going to, he would move on to the next phase and indicting the next set of criminals.
You can’t tell me I am the only person surprised that he said barring further developments or however he worded it, that the investigation was inactive.
You might not be surprised and you might understand better than I what that means in terms of some bigger chess game, but I don’t get why he hasn’t said this information (didn’t we know about non gov emails earlier?) changes everything.
Cause doesn’t it?
And BTW what is O.o? I thought I was so hep. :(
If Goodling cuts a deal I hope that the committees get something of real value for letting this disgusting low life off the hook.
All Karl has to say is get over it and we will.
We may yet live to see Kuzin Karl “frog marched” out in handcuffs. Way cool.
TThank you Mr. Kelner. What’s that smell in the air, is it pig burning?
Rove may put himself on a spit and set it on self- roast, before they come to “frogmarch” him out of the WH, and put him in his orange suit.
I really wish we could know what Mr. Fitzgerald knows.

God. Even better if Laura says ‘ Well, George, was she good? Was she worth it George?’
Sometime in 2005? And what was happening during 2005 in the Fitz investigation, and what were the dates relevant to the missing rove e-mails relating to Plame?
If Monica Goodling cuts a deal, she had better watch her back.
cal @ 38
Wouldn’t Goodling be forced to testify if they gave her immunity? She might not be the one wanting to cut a deal.
It would be iron rich for Rove’s emails to have been preserved due to the Libby investigation. Follow the magnet ;)
Btw, I think you meant committees unless it’s the Latin plural form.
Scarecrow at 50 — The short answer is “yes.” But I know that EW is working on a longer answer on this with all the good details.
I think it is funny that the World Bank Staff is telling Wolfowitz to resign. Bye-bye!!
cal @ 39
I am guessing that Conyer’s committee has finally turned up some pretty compelling evidence, which will make it very much worth her while to cooperate fully with Congress. And quite self-destructive if she doesn’t.
She is still young–she has time to get through this, and get on with her life. Likely everyone in her “personal” circle is telling her this.
I for one, am dying to hear her explain where on earth she came up with the notion of administering loyalty oaths. Was it really her idea, and if it wasn’t, whose was it.
And I would also love to hear her talk about who emailed her via the RNC servers (did she have one of those accounts???) and under what circumstances and why!
First, Rove deletes emails he’s not supposed to. Then, they change the law so that he’s definitely not supposed to delete emails, but he deletes them anyway. Then, they back them up, because he won’t stop, and he still deletes his emails.
He’s out of control.

Rove is subhuman, more like an orc. Evil, smelly bastard.
In the RNC’s effort to distance themselves from this Rove email scam, the other Repubs better start playing ball if they want to get re-elected I would think. I would not be surprised to see enough votes soon for I……mus to vote for impeachment to save my sorry ass.

round one;
rove comes out swinging wide girly swings, marcy ducks, laughs, bounces back, flips hair
round two;
this time ew rushes to teh middle of the ring, rove tries to send a stand in…democrat is ring master though, deducts two points
round three;
rove takes another girly swing, marcy ducks, flips hair, rove is on to this move, grabs hair, (illegal) and tries to push marcy to the ground
marcy winds up and takes a mighty swipe at roves jewels but the target is almost impossible to hit, he laughs it off..
round four;
marcy thinks this has to be the round…spits out gum
marcy’s publisher comes in with a stack of emails recovered from rnc servers
roves corner throws in the towel
compu stat has it marcy in four
The RNC just threw Goodling a life raft by removing the threat from Rove if she squeals. She’s the smoking gun on the USA’s that takes it right back to the White House. She doesn’t know how many e-mails might survive, and if she doesn’t talk she is taking a walk. So I think now is the time for Conyers and company to pounce. She might change her mind later.

Their sacrifice is a reminder for us all to be more vigilant and to hold our leaders accountable, lest they abuse their power.
All of the wars in the last 100 years were preventable and we have to promote freedom and respect for all. A human life is more precious than all the oil in Iraq … and our leaders on both sides have failed to uphold the rights we all deserve.

T. rex thigh reveals chicken family ties

Story Highlights• Chickens are distant cousins of the T. rex, researchers say
• Scientists studied protein from 68 million-year-old bone
• ‘First molecular proof’ of bird-dinosaur link
Adjust font size:
CHICAGO, Illinois (Reuters) — Tiny bits of protein extracted from a 68-million-year-old dinosaur bone have given scientists the first genetic proof that the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex is a distant cousin to the modern chicken.
“It’s the first molecular evidence of this link between birds and dinosaurs,” said John Asara, a Harvard Medical School researcher, whose results were published in Friday’s edition of the journal Science.
